Kiss a Stranger

Rate this book
I loved him. I loathed him. I knew he had secrets. I knew he had darkness in him. And yet I took all of him. Accepted all his ugly the way he embraced all of mine. But sometimes loving someone isn't enough. Sometimes it breaks you apart and moulds you into somebody else entirely. And sometimes the person you loved the most can be the one to hurt you worst of all. Kiss a Stranger is a new adult/contemporary romance. There is a whole lot of sex, and a whole lot of swearing. If that is not your cup of tea, then this is not for you.

Wow! This book was sooo hot! Suspenseful and definitely sexy!

I loved the dynamics of Ben and Claire's relationship. There was always so much mystery surrounding Claire's attack and the seedy criminal dealings of Ben, that suspicions linger in your mind. This story will build you up, then gut you. I literally went from thinking "Wow, this guy is perfect," to "What a bastard," within a few pages. Then when things unravelled, and the truth was revealed, I was shocked!

This book was great! I didn't put it down at all. There were no dead spots anywhere. Although, I anticipate that there will be another book focusing on Jaime and Emily, this book can be read as a stand-alone and does come to an end. Loved it! Read it. You won't be sorry!

We meet Claire as she's taking a dare to kiss a weird, beautiful stranger. She's a narcissistic, vain girl. She puts all her value in her beauty. She's a, how to put it nicely, hum... - ho bag that is willing to do anything to prove she's the most beautiful and can have any man she wants, taken already or not!

Stranger gets off at his stop after kiss and that's that.

She fucks with the wrong woman's man, literally, and pays a very high price.

Now, with her beauty marred, she reconnects with the stranger. Supposedly, the scars have taught beauty her lesson about vanity, being a lose-goose, & possibly f'ing around boldly and carefree in situations that she shouldn't place herself in. Well, no. He's a stranger, by her own words. Yet, she brings him into her house and f's him and does so without even using an f'ing condom! He's evasive to personal questions, likes rough sex (she actually uses the word "hurt" here keep in mind), and nothing about him matches up (expensive suit that takes taxis and PT and uses throwaway phone but is high profile enough to have a usual table at fancy restaurant). So, no this bitch learned nil about self preservation & stranger danger.

Stranger tells her every five minutes that's she sooooo beautiful. Beauty no longer sees herself that way and eventually they talk about her scars and she tells him how they came to be, which is comical because they talk about her whorish ways and he asks if she's past that, to which she says yeah. • Excuse me, but she just f'd him five minutes after learning his name and did it bareback... How does that deviate from her past ho patterns?

I'm not into dumbass characters that alternate between shallow and self-pitty and storylines that I feel the STDs oozing out of... All while boring me the f to death. DNF:(

You know, been surprised by the reviews on this book. all of these readers comparing this to Ignite. It's a totally different league. I walked into this book having not read the Ignite series since February so reading RJ's work was so refreshing. I think this proves how diverse she is as a writer. It was infinitely written better than Ignite and the storyline, to me anyway, was a lot more powerful too. And that's all the comparing you're going to get from me because I think it's pointless to sit around and compare.

Lewis masters flawed heroines to a tee, but she does it in a sneaky way also. Claire has a past that involves a long history of men. And Ive already caught a few comments on her being a whore or having whorish behaviour which is hilarious compared to how many countless books out there that have the guys in her role and yet never labelled as such?

She starts off as confident, fully aware that her past from a broken family attributes to her ways. When she meets Ben he tells her that confidence and arrogance aren't the same thing, and that she's more arrogant.

Fast forward after her dare to kiss him, and we learn she is disfigured and is completely opposite to who she was in the beginning.

What I love is the REALNESS RJ approached the subject. She didn't think she was beautiful, and her insecurities were strong - and that's the damn reality! People call her insecure, yeah well you get how many scars to the face and tell me you can still walk around all normal NINE MONTHS after the fact.

Having been scarred myself (cooking oil accident, nothing "whorish" as some like to quickly resort to calling Claire's actions) it took me years to build my self esteem up. I used to cover my face with my hair some days when it got so bad. so this subject really hit home with me and surprised me. I didn't think i'd pick up the book and we'd get to that point. I cried, which isn't something I do often, and made me wonder if the author actually spoke to people who have been marred in some way. her ability to evoke emotion so accurately surprised me so much.

The book has a beautiful build up of love between Claire and Ben. Then it takes a sudden nose dive and enters suspense and mystery. loved it. typical lewis style, the book was unpredictable. fucking love this author.

the .25 stars I took off in my rating is because I want another book for these two! until she agrees to write another it will remain as such :P

3.5 or 4 stars for different story.

First of all, R. J. Lewis writes amazingly great. I was invested in her characters until the end. That being said, her story about Claire had me conflicted.

It started out with a ten star read. First chapter was for the lack of better word.

When Claire met Ben, I jumped up, and down my seat, rooting for them. Then it slowed at bit.

Next the story had a few of these,

Then these,

Most amazing scene was this one,

Don't forget this.

The story ends with a predictable ending, which is where I wanted more.

GOOD PARTS: I liked BEN. And I loved JAMIE.

I guess, I always liked the guys in RJL's books than girls.
I saw flashes of Sara's personality (previous books) in Claire.

The rating was reduced mostly of the following....

ONE: Initially, I was told, and shown that Claire didn't like phone, and all of a sudden she was using it, just for Ben.*Sigh*

SECOND: I would never give a guy my phone number, without getting his first, no matter how much I liked him, physically or mentally.

THIRD: I definitely need to know his background, friends, family, and job. It's it what determines, and gives us, girls to understand, what sort of guy we're dealing with.
In other words, I would never have my friend or daughter or niece date a guy who never took them to his office, family, or friends. It undermines their value. I would advice my girl to run in the opposite direction.
Claire never questioned Ben, so, it was kind of annoyingly irritating for me.

The rest of things were good, but not great to improve my rating.

I got what my worth for 0.99 cents, and I would definitely keep on buying RJL's books.

I've been having a time finding a book that grabs my interest lately. I've been starting and quiting quite a few. Saw this little gem on another friend's list and decided to give it a try. I'm very happy that I did. It was a sweet little story, with a bit of mystery about the hero. I enjoyed every second of it. I loved living vicariously through these characters starting a new relationship. That hotness, and the sex. OMG!!! So good. I totally recommend this book!

Mysterious, steamy and i adored the love Ben had for Claire.

Claire kisses Ben on a dare...and decides he is the most interesting man she's met in a while. They meet again 1 year later and that's when the mystery starts. Claire loves Ben beyond words but just cannot get over the fact that something is not quite right. We journey through this relationship with her, while waiting for the other shoe to drop. I was super invested and my heart absolutely broke when the doubt became too much for Claire to bear. They part ways..and Claire finds out the truth.
I LOVED LOVED LOVED her letter to Ben...that nearly brought tears to my eyes. I felt as gutted as she did. And when Ben responds....*heart melt*

Overall, this was a good book with perfect amount of sweet and steam..and a great plot. I didn't buy how Ben got out of his 'business'...but hey, i'm willing to overlook that as THIS BOOK WAS HOT~

I liked this one.

I wasn't really sure I liked Claire though, which kind of makes it hard to rate higher above 3 stars. She's a bit shallow, even once she goes through something dramatic. she doesn't really think a whole lot, which again bothered me. But I loved the Drama between her and Ben!

This a contemporary romance book with a hint of mysteriousness in it.
I loved how author did'nt create a perfect and too good to be true heroine .

At first She was egoistic and arrogant about her beauty but life got to her and she finally changed and got a new p.o.v of everything.
Hero was mysterious and calm.
I loved the suspense and how their love story was shown.
Yeah in the last 30% heroine annoyed me like hell!
What she did to hero was really stupid.

Still i had fun.

On last note - A good one time read.

I loved him.
I loathed him.

I knew he had secrets.
I knew he had darkness in him.

And yet I took all of him. Accepted all his ugly the way he embraced all of mine.

But sometimes loving someone isn't enough. Sometimes it breaks you apart and molds you into somebody else entirely.

And sometimes the person you loved the most can be the one to hurt you worst of all.

It started off a bit slow, we have this snobby heroine who uses her good looks to take advantage of men, and we have this dark secretive hero. They meet on a train ride where she is dared to kiss a stranger, she kisses him and that's that..
9 months later, the heroine did a 180; she is no longer this beautiful girl; she hides behind baggy clothes, and hides at home due to a horrible night where a wrong choice cost her half her face (literally)
Hero comes back into live, love is dandy, and BAM! The drama happens, but it's not what you think.. it's not a jealous girlfriend/boyfriend/ paparazzi/ drama it's wayyy worse!
What's a girl to do when she finds out that everything was a big fat lie?

GREAT BOOK! Mafia type but without all the dark parts that come with it. Very mysterious, and you have to read carefully to understand the plot and get what's happening.
Lewis did her research, I can tell.
It's about self esteem and learning to love yourself and all your flaws. Also about second chances and trying to be a better person.
Had plenty of sex which never hurts ;) lol
I'm confused that people don't know what Ben did in the end. He was a part of a network that laundered money. In the underworld theyre called bankers and those that transport the money are highly revered and powerful. and thats what his family did. the police wanted to catch him in the act of exchanging money with some people so they could use him to tackle on the other networks he works with. I don't know why ppl are confused by this????
anyway he says to her that he was ending his ties so he can start fresh which is why he gives it all to jamie --- and I can't wait for his brother's story because he was hot as hell!!!
the story was unique, but what drew me in was the writing style. it felt different than other books that are all about looks and very thin plot.
so happy i was recommended this! read it in a few hours. thanks tess!! :)

I'm flabbergasted at the high ratings for this book.

What I thought might be a relatively light-hearted book, given the title, was actually a relatively dark romance and follows the "love is blind" principle in romance. The book description doesn't really indicate what to expect either.

The young heroine gets involved with this stranger who she kisses on a dare, but about whom she knows nothing. C'mon. Anyone who says they're in the import/export business (furniture - ha!) is lying. He won't give her a phone number for him and he always calls her... what's with that? And she questions none of it and chooses to live in ignorance completely, which makes for a REALLY BORING story, because Ben's underworld life should be exciting and he's got a brother who's equally handsome. Hers is really boring and she makes no effort to really find out anything.

Ugh. Boring. There are also unresolved issues/loose ends/unnecessary bread crumbs -- what was the point of Miles? The author also sets us up for future books -- Emily has an interesting story and there's clearly an attraction to Ben's brother -- easily another book.

Yes, there is cursing and yes, there is sex (some of it rough), but it didn't help this boring story.

Would you kiss a stranger on a dare? Claire did and it changed her life forever.

Claire and her best friend Emily made up dare cards and each month one of them picked a card and performed the dare. While on a bus ride, it's Claire's turn to pick a card. Her dare is to kiss a stranger. She ends up picking Ben. She doesn't see him for over a year, but she never stopped thinking about him. When he shows up in her life again, she discovers he thought about her too. But she suffered a terrible experience in that time and has lost all her self confidence. Ben slowly makes her come around and begin to love herself again and change. They begin dating and its the happiest either has ever been.

However, there are secrets that Ben hides that she's afraid to learn about. When she finds them out, who will she believe? When your lose the trust of the one you love, how can you repair that?

Great Book. Loved the characters. It's told from Claire's POV. No cliffhanger and a stand alone book with a sexy alpha male.

Enjoyed this one too, but now I'm officially out of R.J. Lewis books after downing them all this week - well, other than Ignite and Burn, which I read awhile ago, but I've read the other five straight through, and now I'm so sad they're gone!!! Time to re-read Ignite and Burn to get me through until more come out. I do realize we are TOTALLY spoiled that authors are publishing so many books lately without the quality suffering. Seriously, these peeps are amazing! I don't know how they do it, but I'll be here to one-click every one this lady puts out. I think maybe Carter was my fav, but the Lawson books were good too. And this one was a great standalone. GAH. SO MANY DELICIOUS PAGES. And all free on Kindle Unlimited, if you're on there, go gorge yourself like I just did!

I thought this was a great book! Yes it was another love story but with a twist that had me doing some serious nail biting. I'm a big fan of R.J. Lewis and once again she amazed me with her ability to pack so many emotions in one story.

I don't know what happened. I devoured the authors other books. This one just wasn't working. I DNF at 39%. It wasn't working. The characters were underdeveloped. There are far too many great books out there for me to punish myself by reading this.

"Once upon a time, he picked me up and put me back together again. Piece by piece until I was whole again. But now I know he did it to watch me fall. And fall I did, crashing to the ground into little shards again. But this time, no one came to put me back together again. And I know he'd do it again; he'd put me back together.
Just to watch me fall."

Chapter 1: Hands down LOL funny.. And I don't ever laugh out loud at books. I love her sense of humor, how she says whatever the fu*k is on her mind. And how she totally set up the meeting, and he called her on her bullsh*t. And she is soooo full of herself.
"Oh yeah, I was hot. The kind of hot that could make men feast out of the palm of my hand."

Then she kisses a Stranger, A STRANGER. ON A TRAIN.

Then we got a little dark and twisty. And as much as I love the girl in the first chapter I think the new Claire is even better. You get her snarky, whoreish attitude still - but only in her head.
"I fucked that, I smiled to myself. Yep, I was proud."
You learn what made her have such a drastic change in not only personality but the way she views herself. And why she's changed.

I personally think that they jumped into a relationship quite fast.
"The truth. That disgusting bitch of a thing called truth. I'd do anything to hide from it. Because its grip was cold as death around my neck, and it was choking the life right out of me."
"He was going to be the death of me."

They have their HEA (for a little while at least), but Claire is waiting for the other shoe to drop with Ben, because nothing in her life was ever good after the accident.

"I played with fire, and it finally set me ablaze. I just never thought it'd hurt this much."

 I was broken.

This was not a let down,

I just thought this book was okay. I felt like everytime we saw the main characters they were bipolar in a way; they had the highest highs and the lowest lows. You could arguably say that the hero, Ben, wasn't quite that bad, but I couldn't really stand the heroine.

When Ben and Claire first meet, Claire has chosen to kiss him, a stranger, as a dare. She does, and she really leaves an impression which is good because he ended up leaving a big impression on her as well. They don't end up meeting up for a year, during which Claire has been through a trauma that has left her with little to no confidence and a lot of hesitancy. Meanwhile, Ben treats her like a queen and really boosts her self esteem but keeps most of his life close to the chest. There is a part of his life that we never even figure out what he does, not even by the end of the book. Near the end of the story, trouble comes around and makes Claire doubt everything she thinks is good in her life, which is mainly Ben. She has to decide whether to betray him or continue a life of ignorance.

The story started off very intriguing. But somewhere along the way it just became too much. I never really believed his the characters' relationship and their love. It seemed all too much. Their feelings for one another basically solved all of Claire's problems and nearly made her recovered from her previous trauma. The story isn't entirely implausible, but it doesn't have just a few things that seem unrealistic, it has many, so the whole story felt and seemed contrived. Then to top it off, this story also didn't really get fully redeemed for a good story. I am a sucker for authors that are good story tellers, that write stories that really captivate me. However, R.J. Lewis didn't pull that off. I was pretty disappointed, since the last handful of books I've read really made this one look bad. To be fair, this had some parts that were really well written, but overall, it didn't flow overly well, and like I mentioned, it was just too contrived to sweep me off my feet.

This book was an okay read for me, there weren't a lot of obstacles or hurdles that the couple faced, it was more fluff filler moments between the hero and the heroine. There were so many material that the author could have played with like using the h's insecurity of her scarred faced to have her much more hesitant about having physical intimacy with the H or at least a more slower process in developing it.
The H's secrecy with his job also could come into play much earlier on in the story, it wasn't until like 90% in do we find out his job and it was actually the only obstacle the H and h had to faced because it result in a misunderstanding between them.
What I did liked in the story is that instead of how usually the H is the one that fked up, the h here is the one that fked up instead.
I think the last 90% of the story should have been done around 50-60% in to the story instead, this would have been able to set the tone in having a redemption arc where the h tries to earn the H trust again and how their relationship struggle due to the lack trust from the H as they get back together.
I would have love to see that, but the real story only unfolds 80-90% in.

I’m abandoning it. It’s not formatted. The language is weird.

Nothing is making sense. I don’t feel the chemistry between the main characters that the author is suggesting there is.

It’s peculiar.

The girl meets a man on a train. Puts her wallet in his pocket and kisses him. He leaves at his stop.

She is easy with men. Sleeps with whomsoever she pleases.

She gets assaulted. Face is scarred.

The man on the train reappears after a year.

It’s underwhelming. I found it odd that he never mentions her scars at all.

Throwing my kindle right across the room I’m so angry. Well spiritually I’m doing it.

I tried to read because someone who’s recommendations I love loved this.

I’m like huh?? What?? This is rubbish. Anyway. Maybe it’ll get better. But I’m done. Bored. Angry.

What IS this. How is everybody loving it??

R.J. Lewis is a great author and didn't disappoint with Kiss a Stranger. The book held my attention and had pretty much everything I look for in a book. The only thing I would have liked is if the h, Claire, would have been a little stronger and less insecure. I know she had a reason for her insecurities, but her character could have been so much better if she would have got over her past a little easier.

Ben, on the other had was great. He was hot, demanding, but also secretive, which kept me guessing.

Oh, and who doesn't love secondary Characters? Emily was one of the best... I'm not sure if R.J plans to continue this into a series, but if she does I would definitely be interested to see what is going on with Emily.
