The dialog was very contrived. If you desire to be an author, read A LOT of books, take some creative writing classes and learn the difference between bear and bare. I'm a mathematician and I can write better than this.
Agatha Christy will hint to who? With Amy, it goes further, although the protagonist Carly went through tough times. Why? is the question a big WHY? The end results are mental distress as well as physical. Where is the police? Carly is all alone. Amy is a master at plot twists. Great story, a must-read.
Passionate Retribution starts off with a great scene where a woman is pounding on a detective's desk, demanding justice. She is told there is not enough evidence, and she then tries to go on with her life. We soon discover Carly had suffered a vicious attack and pulled away from most people, as well as went on disability from the police force. We soon delved into Carly's personal life of family and friends, and her life love reignites as she works through her mental and physical issues from the attack. Then the culprit returns, and people around Carly start getting attacked.
My thoughts: I enjoyed the twists and especially the scene between Carly and the suspect in her apartment. This author has strong grammatical skills and unique plots/twists. This is the second book of hers I read, yet I found Prowl to be better than this one. This book seemed to be more of a romance with a back drop of a crime drama than the reverse. As a matter of personal preference, I am not fond of romance--that is just me. Because of that, I found myself losing interest in some parts, then really enjoying and becoming wrapped up in others. I found myself yelling "there is a killer out there who just SHOT you, why do you care who she is sleeping with at the moment it's not important!" I'm a crime/thriller junkie, what can I say? The fact that the author could get me to react "passionately" about the "retribution" is a testament. However, I also realize this is the first book in a series, and the author was probably using this relationships as background for the future books. Overall, its a good story line with interesting twists. Look for my review on part 2. Thank you Ms. Shannon for an interesting story.
I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest opinion.
CARLY’S A LITTLE OVER THE TOP WITH THE WOE IS ME STUFF. HOW COULD SHE JUST REALIZE SHE’S GOT TWO HANDS, HUH? THE ANSWER WAS SO OBVIOUS WHO THE KILLER WAS. THIS WAS ONE OF THE MOST REPETITIOUS BOOKS I’VE EVER READ. I DID NOT LIKE ANY OF THE CHARACTERS AT ALL AND THE DIALOG WAS STIFF AND UNREAL. ;-\
