Matthew Brand refuses to die...

Four years after Brand's reign of terror, Allison Moore and her daughter end up missing. The FBI thinks Brand may have escaped The Wall a second time, now using someone else's body--a person imprisoned years ago for rape.

Death sounds good to Brand this time, but not only his own. If he must die, then the world will come too. Masterminding an apocalypse that no one can hope to survive, he makes his intentions clear to the FBI and the world.

Years ago, Brand took the United States on a ride full of blood and misery. Now, his son's resurrection won't suffice. He wants the world to burn and, just like last time, the odds are all calculated and in his favor. Can the FBI find him and kill him before he plunges the world into darkness?

I used to deliver pizza. I was pretty good at it, too. I mean, it's not that hard, but if I'm not going to brag, who is, right? Anyways, so I'm delivering pizza while I'm in college, and my boss has been in the pizza industry like six years. He's supposed to graduate from college this year, and I ask him, what are you going to do after college? We're all supposed to go out and conquer the world right after college, so this guy has to have some kind of plan.

He looked at me like I was delusional.

"I'm a writer, man."

Those four words changed my life more so than anything else ever spoken to me.
I'd always written, since I was twelve participating in online-wrestling forums in which you acted out your character. I wrote because it came naturally. Never once, in the entirety of my nineteen years did I think that writing could be a career though, until a Pizza Sage said those four words to me.

So what did I do? I went home and wrote a short story and immediately understood that I was the greatest writer to ever touch a keyboard. I brought it to the Pizza Sage and he told me what anyone could have told me--it was horrible. I might be dumb, probably am, but I'm also tenacious.

I spent the next seven years writing almost every day. My first novel grew to the length of 40,000 words, then I threw it away. My second novel grew to 140,000 words. I didn't throw it away, but it was rejected about 50 times by agents. My next novel ended up at around 55,000 words, which I showed to a few friends and shelved. Then I wrote Dead Religion, which is the only reason I have an author page at Amazon.

I have had four short stories published, paid and unpaid. 'Effects May Vary' won an award that was voted on by readers, which was pretty cool.

I'm currently getting my Masters in Business at the University of Georgia's Terry School of Business. I'm doing this in order to not deliver pizzas but still keep the lights on. I have a girlfriend who will soon be my fiancé, and after ten years, I imagine she's ready for that title.

I want to own a yacht.

I really didn't like this one near as much as the first.

The horror of it all didn't really stand out. Matthew Brand came across as crazy due to the science of it all, whereas, in the previous book he was a genius driven by revenge, committing horrendous acts. I missed that.

A Nightmare really had that middle-read syndrome feel to it. The story lost focus and the characters had changed so much that the previous connection we readers had was lost, if there ever was one. It seems there was a race to finish this one to get to the third.

The ending left a lot to be desired and I wasn't at all on board with the drug-dealing guy.

Beer's writing skills are still there, the story itself, just wasn't up to snuff.

I'll be reading the 3rd just to see if his groove comes back.

Beers is excellent at portraying serial killer horror with a sci-fi twist. I can't wait to read Waking Up. Very well done.

This is part two of a trilogy but it ends abruptly without resolving the drama. Matthew Brand was killed but has lived on because he downloaded a copy of his consciousness to another of the prisoners of The Wall, who then promptly escaped and went on a killing spree. The 55 he wants to kill, plus the collateral damage, are nothing compared to his ultimate mission - to kill the whole planet. He’s part of the way through his spree by the end of book two and we have to read book three to find out how that storyline concluded.

David Beers Is Beyond Good

I have loved everything Beers has put out, and the second book in this series is no less amazing to read. Normally, I would go on a bit, but this suffices, IMHO. Read the books to be wowed as I by his breathtakingly interesting, yet enjoyable novels. Happy Reads to all!

Didn't enjoy this as much as the first. It's an interesting follow-on but without the sympathy for the bad guy. In the first novel the reader could totally identify with the reaction to a terrible loss. In this though, the reaction is more than extreme and is not at all linked to events but rather to a general hatred of humanity. Instead of a 'That's what I'd do.' it's more of a 'Why's he doing that?' It's also a bit of a swizz in that this is not a whole novel. It's advertised as the second in a trilogy when in fact it's half the second book in a two part story. A clever trick to sell another unit but leaves a sour taste with the reader. It feels a bit like cheating. However, David Beers has given me the third book for free so I shouldn't be ungrateful. Nothing wrong with the writing, it just doesn't grab the way the first one did. Still looking forward to the third though. It'll be interesting to see if it delivers.

Well... I can't believe that Sorry that was my first thought. Matthew continues on his journey.. but you ask how?? He's dead right??? Remember the House.. at the wall.. that the Dr and Allison were trying to crack.. they figured it out. A little too late. I was really sad to see what happened from the aftermath but Matthew keeps surprising me. I enjoyed this book better than the first and now am wondering what will come next.....

The author gave me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

I have moved on to book #3. Have to see where the author is going with his plot. The first two books are filled twisted events that are evil in nature to say the least, I am driven to see how he ends the series. These are not for the faint of heart!

I was originally given a free or reduced copy of this book in exchange for an honest and impartial review. This has not influenced my review at all.

Good book, much better than book one. Great depiction of Matthew Brand's twisted thinking and hallucinations. A little short, but still worth reading. Enough background given to remind you of the main story started in part one. Only half a book really, requires reading book three to complete the story, whereas book one was near enough a standalone book.

Horrifying, but kept me going so I could finally get to know it will all end.
I didn't like the end though. Book one ended like any good horror story, but book two ended like Beers just wants you to rush out and get the 3rd book NOW!
Oh, well, he's gotta sell his series...

I really like this book but finished it in 4 days feeling that the book was short. Could have finished the series a sequel but it seemed shortened it for the trilogy.
Nethertheless. I am purchasing book 3 now.

Another tour de force from the one of the most skilled indie writers I have come across. Beers is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors.
