Son of an Oathbreaker, Aren is desperate to restore his family's honor, and leaps at the chance Lord Fender offers. His task seems simple enough for a Tracker: bring in a young woman accused of a vile crime. Simple, until his duty to the Jarl conflicts with a debt he owes to the Elves.
Fey-marked and friendless, Annikke flees the wrath of a vengeful lord. When Aren intercepts her, Annikke must choose: trust a stranger with warm brown eyes who promises justice, or protect her daughter--and remain a fugitive forever.
DEBTS is Book Three in the Vinlanders' Saga series. It follows DANGEROUS TALENTS and FORBIDDEN TALENTS, but can be enjoyed out of order.
DANGEROUS TALENTS and FORBIDDEN TALENTS are available in AVINLANDERS' SAGA COLLECTION, Vol. 1 for 25% off the price of the books purchased individually.
Viking debt, fey debt, and personal debt can mean very different things and are explored in this volume. I love the interactions between the characters, So heartfelt!
“Debts” is the third book in the Vinlanders series and introduces us to the healer Annike and her foster daughter. Some characters from the previous two books appear in this novel, which helps maintain the continuity of the series. The author closely linked the first two books by engaging many of the same characters in the plot. In this story, she brings us fresh faces and more magical talents. What a fabulous way of keeping a series interesting!
This novel read like a fairytale. Robertson skillfully handled the theme of juggling conflicting loyalties and repaying debts with these characters. Once you give your word, how do you fulfill your obligations? Family or honor? Survival or oath keeping? There’s great wisdom that applies to us as a society in the present.
Once again, the Elves are the stars of the stories. The world-building just keeps getting better and better. This book can standalone as a paranormal romance. I enjoyed it as much as the first two books.
This was a very exciting plot with lots of corruption, coercion, and collusion. Annikke, Benoia, and Aren are very honorable characters in this story although they have had to survive many trials in their young lives. Each character endured shame from their past, Aren lived under the shame of his father's dishonor, Annikke's long silver locks verify that she has been Fey-touched, and Benoia survived an abusive drunken father. When Aren is ordered to bring Annikke and Benoia to Castle Quartzholm for committing a crime, all of their lives become more entangled and much more complicated. This story was very engrossing and extremely fast-paced, just another wonderful example of Ms. Robertson's ability to spin another enchanting yarn. Very Good Story!!!!!
Oaths, Debts, Friends, and Fae Magic!!! The healers Annikke and her foster daughter Benoia are fleeing for their lives. Sveyn, the son of Lord (Jarl) Tholvar, tried to rape Benoia on her way home. To stop him she used her healing magic to hurt Sveyn. When the Lord’s men can’t find them, the electrd Lord asks for a tracker from Kon Dahleven, the elected leader of the Jarls. Will Aren, a talented Tracker sworn to Kon Dahleven, be able to find the women and bring them safely to Kon Dahleven-the only man who might be impartial? — Enjoy this thrilling story of Annikke, Benoia and Aren, the many dangers they encountered and the help received from unexpected allies!!!
I am so hoping for another book in this series from Frankie! Frankie you are one of my favorite of favorites authors! I love your work!! Please never stop writing, as you bring so much joy with your precious gift!!
I’ve read the other two and I am just hooked. I’ve been binging on this saga. I don’t even know what a candle mark away is; but I know it’s important. Seriously, you will not be bored! Start with the first book so will not be lost.
Disclaimer: I received a free copy of this book with request to review.
'Once upon a time . . . ' opens the best stories. The actual words aren't used, but the classic fairy-tale feeling permeates this engaging story set in the Vinlander universe. This is the third in the series, and it just gets better and better with each new book. I particularly enjoyed the concept of juggling conflicting loyalties and repaying debts. Once your word is given, how do you deal with fulfilling your obligations, when you are bound in different direction? Family or honor? Survival or oath keeping? Very adult themes, handled with delicacy and insight. The dilemmas are real, the world-building first class, and the characters engaging. If you are a fan of Marian Zimmer Bradley, Mercedes Lackey, or Anne MacCaffrey, you will feel right at home here.
I am not a big fan of romance books, much preferring mysteries & thrillers, but I thoroughly enjoyed this series and hope the author sees fit to add to these 3. Although romance is the basis of all her books, she has the ability to open a world of beauty to the reader and keep some excitement in the story through the end. With plenty of time spent on exploring the customs of Nuvinland and the political aspects of running a kingdom, Ms Robertson is able to expand her reach outside of the narrow confines of the audiance of a traditional romance reader. The concentration of an honor bound society being governed by people focusing on kindness and justice makes me wish for more of the same in our world.
What Frankie Robertson can create with 26 letters is nothing short of amazing. She crafts a world with her words that allows readers to seamlessly enter and experience the story. Reading any of her works is a true pleasure.
first time reader of this author. loved the three book series. there were several proofing errors what made the books aggravating to read at times but the plot, characters and overall feeling of the story was great. would recommend
