Broken bonds, an impending darkness, and a sacrifice forged out of love…
After returning from Hypatia and a tragic encounter with the Elder Council, Taryn Malone finds herself stuck in the middle of a renewed feud between the love of her life, Larkin Taylor, and Keiryn Falcon, the boy she can’t seem to get out of her head, or her heart. Trying to fulfill her new duties as a big sister and official pack leader, Taryn struggles to keep the peace. When a brawl between the two boys threatens to expose her darkest secret, she must make a decision that will change the scope of both relationships.
But when a vision of death shows Taryn a new threat lurking on the horizon, she chooses to make the ultimate sacrifice to ensure the survival of her loved ones. At the stroke of midnight, on the start of the New Year, all eyes are fixated upon her as she says her final good-byes before leaving with the heinous monsters that have come to claim her.
Taken to Mors, home of the Mortari, Taryn comes face-to-face with the original brothers, and is stunned when she learns of their true intentions. Knowing that a single misstep could expose the depths of her gifts, thus giving them further leverage over her, she locks down her emotions more securely than ever before.
While in the presence of the Mortari, the frequency of Taryn’s visions only increase, as do her encounters with Death. In his riddle-like way, Farren shows her things that make her question if her whole life has been one big lie. Angry and confused, her rage becomes almost impossible to contain, pushing her over a jagged edge that could keep her from ever seeing those she loves again. Will she be able to persuade her captors that setting her free is truly in their best interest? Or will her all-consuming rage make her succumb to their ways for eternity?
Well, book one pretty amazing, book two...? Whoah! I love how the characters are actually evolving and grows with the storybuilding. And altough I feel for our heroine, I actually do like me some angry and scary sometimes.
Her and her everloving wolfy and falcon are amazinng, because although it seems so much the normal love triangle, there are certain takes that makes it slightly different, which I truly love.
Her time with the "enemy"? I were holding my breath, waiting for the evercoming breakdown. Whoah, what strength and endurance a sixteen year old can hold. Breathtaking. And although It are highly unrealistic, I didnt give a damn. Because, really... if I were reading the book, wanting it to be realistic.. well.. wrong genre.
Still, sometimes the characters seems to to things that are out of their element, and thoughts are speaking more that action. Here, instead of telling the reader how she feels, or the others, they show us, and also let us make our own conclusions, not rendering the reader studip.
This book were just my cup of tea, and I can hardly wait until spring.
Thank you Karlie Mavre for two amazing books which have left a lasting impact. And f*** up with my sleeping routine..
I finished this book a couple of months ago but my schedule keeps me so busy that I haven't had time to formulate a proper review. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series but was a bit worried that the second book would not live up to the hype that I had created in my head for it. Clearly I was wrong. This book delivered even more than I hoped it would!
The intro of the new characters, the Mortari, and particularly the Brother's C, was great. They are supposed to be these terrible people that you want to loathe and see their demise, but the author did a great job of pulling me into their world and showing that sometimes history can be skewed to suit other's perspectives whether it's true or not. Don't get me wrong, for the most part they are bad, but there are a couple of characters with some redeeming qualities and I found myself rooting for them to turn away from the dark side, so to speak.
I was waiting for Taryn, our lovely heroine, to fall apart when she was ripped from her lover's arms and thrust into the Mortari's world, but she didn't and I loved that. The author kept her true to her form as a strong female lead. Even as a guy, I can appreciate that. My favorite new character was Lazaryn. There's something very endearing about him and I hope he is around for the third book in the series.
This was a truly pleasurable book. I am really looking forward to the next one. This author seems to keep getting better with each new installment! I highly recommend!
This series is EPIC!!! Normally I find most second books in a series to be lacking, not terrible, just lacking that something special, but not Winter's Frost!
Winter's Frost is even better than the first! The characters continue to grow and we are introduced to some real nasty characters - The Brothers C and the Lessor Mortari. I love how when you think things are going one way the author takes you in a different direction. There is a lot going on, but not too much that it's overwhelming. It only fuels my want to keep reading and to know what's going to happen next.
The ending, OMGoodReads - all I can say is "She grinned." Brilliant ending. Karlie has left me dying to know what's going to happen next! Cannot wait until Spring 2015! Reign of Fire!
This book series just keeps getting more and more awesome. I love it so much!
Winter's Frost, the second book in the Oath Saga, is just as good, if not better that the first book. This time around we get to see the view point of the Mortai, the Mors where they live and we get to meet the infamous three brothers.
This is a much darker story than it was in the first book. There is more horror and violence, secrets are reviled, more mysteries occur and we get backstory. The characters are a little more evolved and Taryn's darkside rears it's ugly head. Also it must be mentioned that this is the love triangle to beat all love triangles. The triangle is so messy and complicated that there is no way you could solve it with out feeling totally decimated yourself.
Winter's Frost is so compelling, I couldn't wait until I was able to read again, but I also didn't want it to end. The Oath Saga is amazing and now has a place in my favorite book series of all time. It is most definitely a must read.
I read the first book in this series, it was decent. It didn't really appeal to me but I decided to try the second book in the series. This series is very much targeted to a specific audience. If you enjoy teenage heroes in an over the top romantic fantasy then you'll like this book. The story is engaging and the "world" is well imagined. I'll stop at the second book to read more engaging stuff. At this point I'm not sure if I return to this series later, but I might.
