Geeking Out on 11C

Rate this book
Dear Author,
Mateo is the most gorgeous man I’ve ever seen. He lives in my building, but I didn’t think he would ever notice me. I’m shy, I’m a geek and I’m probably too old for him. The other day he passed me in the hall and winked at me. Of course I completely clammed up, blushed and rushed by him. I can’t even say hi to the man without being completely flustered. But I can’t get him out of my mind.

Photo Description:
A guy with golden skin, washboard abs and a scruffy, sexy grin is staring off into space. He looks like he’s thinking about something hot as he lifts up his sleeveless shirt.

This story was written as a part of the M/M Romance Group's "Love’s Landscapes" event. Group members were asked to write a story prompt inspired by a photo of their choice. Authors of the group selected a photo and prompt that spoke to them and wrote a short story.

This one time I was at Starbucks, right? The guy in line next to me all flirtily offered me one of the sample drinks, right?

Did I flirtily accept and make flirty eyes and talk to him? Or whatever normal people do?

No.

Instead I told him that I couldn't drink the sample as I was allergic to milk and it would lead to intestinal problems. I then excused myself to go to the bathroom so I could hyperventilate.

TRUE STORY.

Reason #132 why I'm still single.

CAN'T TALK TO DUDES.

Anyway, I perfectly understand Ed and his “Chillier in the hallway than I expected” moment. I think that may be the greatest thing I've ever read.

The rest was sweet and hot and funny and total wish-fulfillment.

You should totally read it.

** Very Worthwhile FREE Read Here !!! **

No wonder Ed didn't think anyone would find him attractive. After being saddled with the names of his two grandfathers, Edgar Horace Brown , who would???

And being in his early 30's and an awkward, blurting, glasses-wearing gamer nerd sure doesn't help either.

But Mateo, the mid-20's, social, flirty across-the-hall neighbor in 11C? No such problem in the hotness department at all. Not even a little bit.

But Ed's cluelessness (and awkwardness) evidently knows no bounds, because 6 months after Mateo inviting (pronounced "pushing") himself into Ed's life, Ed still doesn't see it.

This part made my heart hurt for how little self-esteem Ed has for himself...

“You could have anyone from eighteen to one hundred lining up to be with you.  You look like… you.   A walking gay Tumblr gif come to life.  I look like, well me.  Short and geeky.  Men like you who probably have fans around the world don’t look at men like me— guys who hold the wall and hide in corners.  Guys who are comfortable there.  You’re Details magazine.  I’m PC Gamer.”

It's a fun little ride to watch as these two funble their way into one another's arms, but it was a bit blurt *lite*, which I think would have been pretty awesome to expand on.

More blurting, please! : )

3 3/4 stars, rounding up.

A fish named Atari?
Hells yeah. Kick it old school, LL!
description

Edgar has been secretly lusting over his fuck hot neighbor since he moved into the building. But Ed being Ed hasn't worked up the nerve to say anything to him, nor does he have any immediate plans to do so. He figures Mr. GQ wouldn't give him the time of day. But that doesn't stop him from lusting right?
description

Our Ed is a naughty little monkey, too. *winks* Honestly, Edgar had me at, “Chillier in the hallway than I expected.” He's never met a gym he liked. He'd rather read a book than be out in the public eye. He does like video games quite a bit which ain't my gig, but he made up ground by hitting the Cupcake jackpot with "Negative Ghost Rider"! Oh, E… get in my pocket, please.

Mr. Live Tumblr aka Mateo is, obviously, hot, but he's also outgoing and friendly. What I like best about Mateo is his refusal of the terms of Edgar's name. He's calling him E. Period. The end. No discussion. Just talk to a brick wall, you'll have better luck changing its mind. I can respect that. Yes, I'm being cheeky. Sort of. What I really like about him is his willingness to meet E on his level and his persistence. It's clear Ed's an introvert with some social anxiety to anyone within a six block radius, and clearly Mateo is intrigued, so he finds a way in. Can't call him dumb.

I love this author's voice. I laughed so much at one point I caught myself clapping and dabbing my eyes like Miss Daisy at a Ricky Gervais show. The yin yang between these two characters was perfection. She did an excellent job rounding them out as characters within a mere 14K words or so. I would dearly love to read more about them in the future.

The sexy times contained growling. GROWLING! Hints at future role playing and some flip fucking.

Aww yeah, baby!

An comedic gem for the LL event for which I thank the author and her team. 4.5 Stars rounded up.

So fucking funny. Hilarious. I laughed through this entire thing. It's that cringe-worthy type of awkward that makes you want to cover your eyes, but you can't, because you have to know what happens.
I love Ed, I LOVE Mateo, I love Atari, and I fucking love the scene with the tissue. I think about that once every few days and almost choke laughing.

I've read this story twice already, and the tissue scene four times. Fucking great.

And a handjob for the win!

This is a very funny, sexy short about me Ed, a gaming geek, who falls for his sex on a stick neighbor, Mateo. Geeks are hot, hot guys are hot, funny is the hottest. Highly recommended.

3 stars.

Too much shyness and awkwardness on the part of Ed and too much perfection on the part of Mateo. But it was cute and sexy enough.

Go...go....go!

Don't tell, but I am totally late to this party.
What is it they say? If you're late, you'd better bring the beer?

Sumthin' like that, right?

Edgar is champion of awkwardness.
And I adored every bit of his social awkward penguin self.

The writing was off the hook!
I love me some nerdy boys and match 'em with a young stud?

Hilarious and sweet-baby-thor HOT.
I picture 'E' a little something like this...

and the cover *wipes drool* is the perfect pic of Mateo.
Fab one-liners, sexy hand jobs and Atari the fish.
Smush it all together and you've got a kick ass story.
ohhh,
The ending?
awwww yeah!!

Sexy and geek POWER UP.

Seriously adorable Ed and ridiculously hot Mateo get it on, well not really at first. It's one embarrassing social misstep after another as Mateo ignores all the barriers Ed puts up and plows his way through. Two things really stuck with me, distracted me, made me think totally different things: first, the whole E thing--yeah, I'm thinking club time and second, why the fuck weren't they playing Smash Bros.?

Full disclosure: I like geeks so my rating is geek biased ;)

Such a cute and sexy book! The MC Edgar and Mateo are neighbors and each time they had a run in it was so cute! Edgar is a nerd and a gamer and sometimes the things he would say had me smiling and cringing a bit! His insecurities and shyness prevented him from approaching Mateo. Oh Mateo Mateo he was such a sweetheart so patient and caring with Edgar. This was very short but enjoyable read!

Recomendable!

What did I think - I think I loved the HELL out of this book. Firstly Ed, oh my god...geeky and so freaking gorgeous with his shyness and social awkwardness. I wish I lived next door to him. I mean he has a fish called Atari, kinda 'nuf said.

Then Mateo - be still my beating heart. Funny and not at all awkward, not to mention not lacking in the old looks department. Mateo's attraction to Ed is just so damn lovely. I kinda like that hot dude falling for the geek - mainly because the geek is never quite as undesirable as they themselves believe. I love that Mateo cares enough to bear with Ed, to coax him out of his shell.

LL Bucknor writes some funny stuff. Like seriously funny stuff - one of my favourite lines

See what I mean. Stories like this make me love this even even more. I mean it's amazing and it's free. Win, win. I CANNOT wait to read more from this author. Like really can't wait.

I can't go without mentioning the awesome cover by Natasha Snow. I may have drooled like a fucking idiot over it admired it's artisticness for a little while today.

The geek who never thinks he can get the hot guy across the hall because when he opens his mouth to talk to the hot guy across the hall he ends up shoving said foot in his mouth...

Yeah, this was a story that I adored. First, I mean E (tee hee) has a fish that he talks to named, Atari. That right there gets points from this old school gamer chick. But Edgar is totes adorable in all that he does from repeatedly telling his elderly neighbor his name is not Ned to drooling and fantasizing over the dude he named a Sim's character after, aka Mateo.

“We’ve never had a chance to meet with my weird hours. I’m Mateo.” His neighbor smiled and put his hand to his side. “I’m in 11C.” Ed stared at Mateo’s shiny, shiny teeth. What to say? Ed blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

“Chillier in the hallway than I expected.”

LMAO - I love ya, Edgar Horace Brown, named after both of your grandfathers. I really do!

And then there is Mateo. Aww... Mateo. The hot boy with the heart of gold. Mateo was much more than meets the eye. I loved you even as you dragged E to a corner and made him "get it" and "understand." Oh yeah, I *clears throat* really loved that.

The slight miscommunication was sigh worthy but the resolve had me reading through my fingers at Edgar and his rationalization. Good lord boy! Mateo thinks you are hot! Go with it.... mmm hmmm. Go. With. It! *grins*

Geeking Out on 11C was the perfect Sunday read to make me smile, make me swoon, make me laugh and make me fall in love with these boys.

Cute, the awkwardness made me giggle (especially after reading Rosa, really's review)

Never been enough of a computer person to get the appeal of the games but the fish were a nice touch.

I liked that this was geeky Edgar/Ed/E's pov yet you could also see Mateo. To Ed, Mateo is a god; but Mateo (whose pov we don't get (yay I get tired of switching pov)) is clearly not as smooth as Ed thinks. He's just as besotted and I got the feeling he was doing deliberate poses and he was definitely fishing, and then dragging his big brother in to help, and the obvious jealousy...

Noticed there was a lot of Ed/Edgar usage in the narration rather than sticking to one, but it's a very minor quibble.

Ed is funny and Mateo is cute, makes for a nice little feel-good fic with a lot of giggles.

3.4 stars

This was a very nicely written story with enough true threads underneath to make it interesting. Normal everyday things are not always so easy. What seems so easy for others might not be so easy for me. And mistakening the efforts others make as easy is also a trap so easily fallen into.

Liked this fun, light and at the same time real.

Everyone is going to be geeking out to this adorable, amazing story. It's an odd, unique mix of angst and funny. It's endearing and sexy. It's a nerds dream. It has fish named Sega and Atari. It has a man wearing a Tron shirt, who is so loyal to the first movie he buys the remake but won't watch it. It's something you need to read.

Ed, you're so amazing; I wish you could see yourself. You, and your verbal diarrhoea are priceless.
Mateo, you are so patient and amazing; I want to hug you.

This sexy, sweet, well written story is adorable, with well realized characters and is an excellent addition to the loves landscapes event.

Highly recommended. I'll be sure to watch for this author in the future.

My thanks to the author for their time and participation in the loves landscapes event

Oh, Ed, you cutie-pie, you made this story for me. With your adorable awkwardness and lusty thoughts, I couldn't get enough of you. Mateo was a sweetie, and I liked his sneaky ways, trying to get past your defenses so he could make his move, but I would have liked his POV, too.

What were his thoughts during that moment in the hall when he made you wet? *grins* What was it about you that captured his interest? I did like his reaction to Jack at the bar. He got a little possessive, didn't he? I didn't need his POV, then, his thoughts were very clear, even if you didn't translate them yourself.

I'm glad I didn't know his thoughts in the parking garage, though. WTH, Ed?! That was not adorable >:(
You were such a mess.
Poor Mateo :(

I'm very happy with how it all worked out, though.

Vacation-Countdown-Shorty #9/19!

Ed is a geek. His plan for a good evening? Stay at home and play video games all night long.
At times he reminded me of him. Just... nicer!?

Oh! And he has a goldfish named Atari.

Mateo lives in the same house across the hallway. Appartment 11C. He is outgoing, sucks at videogames and is the bartender in a family owned bar.

Ed lusted after Mateo from afar but after some foot in mouth incidents and awkward moments they form a friendship which didn't cool Ed's crush down in any way.

I loved the easy humor.
I did totally identify myself with Ed.
And badass Atari got my heard from the first page on.

This was an adorable and funny story!

I'm just sad it isn't longer. Then I would have given it gladly 4 stars

So I'll go with 3.5 you-can-call-me-Ed stars!
