Three-dimensional, accordion-fold pocket guides, each tucked inside an attractive slipcase, reveal favorite sites and fascinating subjects.
Zoom in on a dozen key moments in the history of space exploration—from Sputnik 1 (the first artificial satellite to orbit Earth) to the Curiosity rover, a car-size device sent to Mars to see if the planet has ever been able to sustain life—in this journey through the solar system and beyond.
Candlewick Press arrived on the scene with some of the highest-quality picture books anywhere. A pocket-sized pop-up book designed to capture a young reader's imagination, Space Exploration is one in a series of "Panorama Pops" non-fiction published by the always-innovative Candlewick Press.
Museum exhibit-style 2-page panels with pop-up features explain the history of space exploration through time. Starting with Sputnik 1 and ending with the International Space Station, all major achievements in space flight and exploration are covered. The text is interesting and easy to follow for young readers, and clear enough to read aloud. The pop-up space shuttles, satellites, and astronauts are cute and fun, and definitely durable enough to withstand many readings. The book also includes a timeline and a little glossary of "space words."
Highly recommended for young readers and scientists, as a school book fair feature, and as a gift for older readers who would enjoy a novelty book.
Panorama Pops Space Exploration informs you about the evolution of space exploration from Sputnik 1 to the Curiosity Mars rover in fun pop-up form. Do you want to know how far Voyager 1 is from Earth? Read the book to find out this and other fun facts. There is also a glossary entitled “Space Words” and a space exploration time line. This book is unique and unlike any I have ever read because it comes in its own box and when you slide it out it opens up like an accordion. The illustrations are colorful and accurate in their detail. I rate this book 5 stars because it gives fascinating information about space exploration. This book is a super one-on-one book for the young space enthusiast. While the print is small and the young learner may need help with the pronunciation of some of the vocabulary the content and presentation is excellent. The presentation consists of a small accordion-folded booklet with colorful, detailed paper-cut pop-ups of twelve major events covering the history of space exploration. It covers the beginning of the space race between the United States and the Soviet Union in 1957 until The Curiosity rover landed on Mars in 2012 and includes a glossary of space words and a space exploration time-line. Job very well done.
