Energetic Squirrel is eager to make sure his friends have fun in four charming (mis)adventures. Mouse has cleaning to do, Turtle is too slow to run around the pond, and Rabbit is reluctant to alter his grass-eating routine, but Squirrel’s comedic assistance always makes for unexpected adventure. Welcome back the funny, exhausting Squirrel and his ever-patient friends in a medley of stories perfectly suited for reading alone or reading aloud.
Lisa Moser grew up in the small town of Fairfield, Iowa. "I had a wonderful childhood," says Lisa. "I lived in a neighborhood where lemonade stands were a day's event, the boundaries for hide-and-go-seek were the entire block, and you knew it was time to come home when the streetlights came on."
About this time, Lisa was inspired by her grandma to become a writer. "My grandma and grandpa lived in Florida, and we would write letters every week. But on some golden days, some treasure days, I would go to the mailbox and find a story from my grandma. She'd write the stories, draw the pictures, and bind them up with bright yarn. Reading those stories, my own dream of becoming a children's author began."
Lisa went on to attend The University of Iowa and graduated with a degree in elementary education. After getting married, she moved to Worthington, Ohio where she happily taught reading, writing, and other subjects to fifth graders. Lisa is proud to say that she was never beaten in a footrace by any of her students, although she only raced them once. Wisely, she retired a champion.
When Lisa and her husband moved to Wisconsin and had their daughter, Lydia, Lisa became a stay-at-home mom and pursued her childhood dream of writing.
This book should be called "3" there are a LOT of repetitions of the same words three time with really no point to the story or rhyming and after awhile they just got annoying. ME ME ME!!! SWEEP SWEEP SWEEP! GO,GO,GO. They just seemed odd, abundant and out of place. Now, as a librarian, I understand that repetition is part of learning to read, but this was just obnoxious with the repetition-- On a brighter side, this books is about strawberries and friendship...so you can't go wrong. The pictures were good, and the story was good. I would say this is a good early chapter book...but if a reader is advanced enough to read an early chapter book, they don't need the repetition, repetition, repetition. Have a said enough, enough ENOUGH. Done, Done, DONE!!
I just loved this book! The way Squirrel frantically goes from one thing to another and the way he talks (very fast!) make me think of the squirrels in my backyard - always scampering around and playing wiyth each other. Squirrel is looking for someone to play with him, but his friends are all busy at first. In the end, Squirrel and all his friends enjoy their day.
Recommend this book to readers in first grade and up, espcecially readers looking for easy chapter books.
This book was chosen under the Easy Story category and I feel like this was a good choice to be used in a classroom for that early reading grade level. This book is at a good level for those students and also teaches valuable lessons for the children which is important in the classroom to have multiple positive interactions from a book. I think the illustration was nice and the fluency was good. I also felt like the book had some comedy in it so I think students would really like it.
Spazzy little story of a busy little squirrel who wants to play and have fun while all of his friends are trying to get their homes ready for winter. He's in the way and underfoot, and just generally does everything wrong and hinders them at every move. The text is funny and the illustrations are great and all is right in the end! The littles will enjoy the story and older children will enjoy reading it themselves as it is an easy reader.
Oh. I just LOVE this little book. It is humorously told, highly readable, warmly illustrated, and a new favorite for me.
Squirrel is full of brimming, hyperactive energy, and you can't help but be enchanted by his hilarious mistakes as he tried to engage his friends Rabbit, Turtle, and Mouse in fun.
Suggest to patrons looking for early chapter books, humor, or excellent illustration.
Squirrel is kind of active and drives me a bit insane. The repeating of 3 words still irritates me. However, I do think there are kids who will like this one and enjoy the silly antics of squirrel and like how the story unfolds.
In a book designed for toddlers -- and frenetic children of any age -- you'll meet a squirrel who may inspire you with all of his irrepressible energy. Alternatively, long before you get to the last page, you might feel an urgent need to take a nap.
Squirrel is busy, busy, busy, helping his friends.
In Chapter 1 of 4, Mouse has cleaning to do. Gee, do you think that Squirrel is going to help in a normal way? Nah, his friend, a cleanliness-loving mouse winds up where? Literally, stuck in the mud?
Chapter 2 relates Turtle's story. Squirrel tells him, "You need to run, run, run." And that's just the start of Squirrel's helpfulness.
Finally, Chapter 4 recounts Squirrel's attempts to celebrate the "fun day" he has given everyone. Oboy!
RATING THIS BOOK
Sure, it's worth FIVE STARS. If nothing else, any caregivers who are reading this story can have a nice, relaxing time. Since this book can be read sitting down, and it's pretty long.
Besides, the story encourages toddlers to emulate a new role model, just in case those toddlers aren't yet frenetic enough. And wouldn't any parent or caregiver just LOOOOOOVE that?
I absolutely adored this cute book. It takes me back to my childhood and reminded me of reading my beloved PIPPA MOUSE series by Betty V. Boegehold. I loved the fun and adventure in SQUIRREL'S FUN DAY, as well as, the repetition. I want to be wild and free like Squirrel, too!
Squirrel’s excitement and exuberance to have fun leads to some chaos for his friends, but it also allows his friends to try something new or break out of a rut. Will they be mad?
I would forgive almost any shortcomings in the narrative because I enjoyed the illustrations so much, although I found the story charming. Squirrel reminds me of some highly energetic kids I know, and his spirited personality sometimes outstrips his friends' initial willingness. But in the end, the more placid animals can appreciate the liveliness that Squirrel brings to the day, and they repay home with some quieter entertainment. I love how this book shows that different personalities can get along.
Squirrel's Fun Day is a cute story about a hyper little critter with big plans to have fun with all of his friends. He has adventures with Mouse, Turtle, and Rabbit that lead each of his friends to explore something new.
It's a great little book for young readers and it carries a happy little message - friendship is important.
Squirrel is hyped up for a super fun day. He tries to engage of his friends in his brand of fun, but they all seem to enjoy fun of a unique flavor, but they band together to create a fun surprise for their dear friend.
A read aloud easy reader title with memorable characters and a charming main character that brings Tigger to mind. Grades 1-3.
Everyone knows someone like Squirrel who has a lot of energy and zest for life! But I love the ending where we see that Squirrel is not just a nutty little animal that gets all of the other animals moving; he is also a sensitive creatures who thinks of others. Very cute book with a subtle message.
Squirrel is out to have a fun day, but Mouse, Turtle, and Rabbit are much too busy to join, or so they think. Squirrel's enthusiasm for having fun, fun, fun changes their outlook once they stop and think of what they did with Squirrel during the day, and how it took them away from the mundane and routine of their everyday existence.
I loved this little book of repetitive excitement. I thought it was fun, fun, fun!!
I loved the message of this book about opening up to new activities and having fun with it. I think it is a great message for our kidlets about not judging others on their "quirks" and maybe being open to new adventures.
This chapter book about Squirrel who is determined to have very, very, very fun day. His friends are to busy to have a fun day with him. This is a great chapter book for anyone starting out reading.
Pictures are fun and they can go along with the adventure.
A loveable, friendly but hyperactive squirrel is bent on helping his friends have an active exciting day. Warm, fuzzy illustrations and the simple repetitive text make this a perfect read aloud story on the meaning of friendship.
