OMG, LOL. So heres the thing....I have young children who think poop and farts ("toots") are funny. This is an area that I struggle with. I don't know why because I'm an RN and I've seen and cleaned every kind of poop there is, Patients have farted in my face more times than I can count, but when my girls start talking poop (or toots) I cringe and pretty quickly tell them to act like ladies.Having said that I have to give this 5 BIG FAT STARS!!! Because my kids laughed so freaking hard. They think this is the best book ever written and I will probably have to read it daily and also buy all of the other "Dinosaur that pooped..." books. Yes, there are more of them. This was such a great read aloud. It rhymes ( bonus points) and there is a participation page where the kiddos get to yell at the top of their lungs "POOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOP" and then collapse in a giggling heap on the floor. The pictures are absolutely disgusting and yet somehow funny and cute. Basically it was the only happy part of my really horrible miserable day. 💩
Look. I have a fascination with T-Rex's trying to wipe their butts. It's one of my favorite things. In this case, it was just some kids pet dinosaur eating everything and then pooping it. In space. OH. MY. GOODNESS.
If I ever planned to have kids (I won't) this is what I'd read them. Because it was stupid and cute and the illustrations were amazing.
And the rhyming? Yeah. I hate rhyming. But I didn't care because the story was just so funny and preposterous and now there's a floating poop planet so I'm entertained.
I normally only review books on Goodreads that I read for myself, but I just had to make an exception for this book.
I work in the children's section of a public library and this book is just fantastic. I get asked for dinosaur recommendations for boys all the time, and this is a winner every time. The illustrations are great, the rhyming is fantastic, and it's great for reading aloud. And it combines dinosaurs with space!
My son liked this book (I didn’t so much). Mainly because it has to do with poop…. Danny and his pet dinosaur go to the museum to ride on the rocket ship to space. Because they were so antsy to get going, they forgot to pack a lunch. Very soon, dinosaur’s stomach rumbled and he began to eat everything in sight. How would they get home now that dinosaur ate their spaceship?
Story - 5 Writing Style - 5 Illustrations - 5 Overall - A Big Fat 5
Brilliant, just brilliant. What child is not going to love a book about a dinosaur and poop?! The rhyming pattern is great, good for spotting rhyming words. Flows so well, makes it a joy to read aloud. One predictable part giving children the opportunity to join in and shout POOP as loud as they can, which is just hilarious when reading it in school. Illustrations are just wonderfully done, so lovely to look at. Dinosaur looks so happy and friendly. Overall, just a fantastic book. Great to read aloud especially. I LOVE it!
It kind of disgusting when you think about it and when you see the illustrations and go "oh, that's diarrhea". 😷😷. BUT I think children would like it, because they think poop is funny. And the book rhymes so it's catchy and is almost upbeat enough that you don't really notice the dinosaurs bathroom problems. Alas, it's not for me.
I got this book for my niece for Christmas and decided to read through it before I wrapped it. I didn't feel like this one was as cute as the first one, but there is still a gross charm that I know my niece will love.
Just like all the other dinosaur that pooped books, this one is epic with very intense poop pictures let me tell you that. Even though I don’t have all of the dinosaur that pooped books from the series, I do love them all even though some of them haven’t touched my brown wood bookshelf yet. (But most of them have). Tom fletcher is an amazing author and you can never hate the work and thought he puts into making children laugh and then also he is in a band if you wanted his voice more then just a couple pages of his book handwritten by him (not saying I don’t like the pooped series). It’s an amazing read and I will continue to read it again and again!
AWESOME! My favorite part was when he pooped. It was funny. The book was Amazing and the front cover made me laugh because it said "The Dinosaur that Pooped a Planet"
As an adult it’s just gross, but my 8 yr old son was entertained. I think he was more entertained that I was so disgusted by the book than the book itself.
...I... I .. what? This is a WEIRD book. I knew it was going to be weird based on the title and I mean, it might be a good book for a kid who has a poop-phobia in order to show everyone poops but.. um.... yea. It's similar to the "there was an old lady" books but instead of burping everything out the dinosaur poops it out and it's yucky. I see kids who have a fascination with gross stuff enjoying this book but this is just not for me.
Dino poef ʼn planeet – Tom Fletcher & Dougie Poynter
Boekverslag deur Sylvia de Kock
‘Dino poef ʼn planeet’ is ʼn ‘poeftastiese’ boek – om die skrywer se eie woord te gebruik! Ek vermoed enige resensent sal hiermee saamstem.
Al hierdie titels is vermaaklik: ‘The Dinosaur that pooped the past!’, The Dinosaur that pooped a lot!’ en ‘The Dinosaur that pooped Daddy!’

This is a very popular children’s book because two celebrities write it. It is about a boy and dinosaur that travel into space, it is a funny book for young children it would be used for entertainment more than for an educational reason. This may be read in foundation during Storytime and could be recommended to be read at home with parents because children may struggle with a few of the words. It has a message in it that a child should always be prepared with food if they are going ‘can’t have fun on an empty stomach’ is a line that is repeated by the child’s mother and is reinforced at the end. Overall this book would be an interesting read for a child and could be a great way to get a child to enjoy reading and not see it as hard work and the younger this is installed the better it is for the child’s education in the long run.
Do you know a small child who likes dinosaurs? Who loves to go to museums with rocket ships? Who thinks poop is pretty hilarious? Bring this book home for that special person in your life.
There is nothing exceptional about much of this book. The rhyming text is fine but not stellar (pun intended), the dinosaur is generically cartoonishly somewhat reptilian, and the moral of the story is apparently that one should always eat before heading off for fun. (There are plenty of adults who could still use this lesson.)
But it's impossible to leave this book without smiling a lot because it's about a) a dinosaur in b) outer space who c) poops a planet to get back home. What's not to love?
This is one of the few 5 star books I have, for the simple fact that it caught me so off guard, it had me laughing out loud in the middle of a library. while it is extremely gross, and not for the faint of heart, it is a very well written book. The start of its quite slow, and you expect the rest of the book to be, but the minute the dinosaur starts eating things, you expect SOMETHING, but whatever your expecting doesn't even come close to what happens. It was like the opposite of a jump scare in a movie, I think this book created an entirely new phenomena called jump laughs. Like I had said before, not for the squeamish or faint of heart, but I would definitely recommend this to everyone I know.

This is an extremely funny story that follows Danny and his dinosaur on an adventure to space! But, oh no! They have forgotten their packed lunch! And the dinosaur is hungry...There's plenty of opportunities to use voice in an engaging manner to help children become immersed into the story. But, you need to make sure you're okay with a book filled with dinosaur poo! It is an absolutely hilarious story with very vivid images of how the dinosaur ate everything he could get his claws on in space. And when something goes in, something else goes out! Be prepared for lots of fun rhymes about a dinosaur poo!
Umm, this book is hilarious. My daughter and I laughed so hard and we had to read it immediately, again. I recommend it to any kid or adult who cannot read the word poop without laughing (ny whole family falls into this category). I would be worried to read this book to my library kids because I would not be able to get through the title before all the kids would be laughing too hard, no one would be able to hear the story.
Get this book. Find a kid to read it to or with, niece, nephew. You will never regret it!
