The follow up to GIVE ME SOMETHING...

TAKING SOMETHING
I know what you’re thinking. “You were such a jerk, Nick!” Believe me, I know I screwed up the best thing I had going in my life, but that was kind of my thing. I’d learned how to run cons before I could even form complete sentences, and I’d always been selfish. But I changed. Lila forgave me, my brother and I were getting along, and I was trying to make a name for myself in the music world.

At least that was what I was trying to do when I negotiated my way into the recording studio with pop superstar Sadie Sinclair. I thought it would be a piece of cake—charm my way into her heart and into her record label’s good graces.

Just when I thought I had it all figured out, I got mixed up in a web of lies, manipulation, and deception. A web that had me questioning my motives and desires altogether.

Was the fame and fortune really worth the price?

This is a contemporary romance intended for ages 18+.

Born and raised in the middle of a Midwestern cornfield (not literally, that would be weird), I’ve spent my entire life imagining stories. Stories where the right guy always gets the right girl, first kisses are as magical as they are on the big screen and anything is completely possible if you believe.

Although this journey began years ago, it recently took on a whole new life. After years of devouring hundreds of Romance, YA and New Adult novels, I had an epiphany... I should write a book. And I did it!

If I’m not reading, writing, enjoying drinks with my amazing group of girlfriends or chasing around a sarcastically funny kid, I’m probably watching television shows that were created for teenagers, while my husband teases that I’m too old to watch them.

"But could I do the happily-ever-after thing? I wasn't sure I even deserved one?"

I really enjoyed the first book of this series and was interested to see what the future would hold for Nick Kline. The author did a fantastic job writing an all male pov book. Sadly, I found the story line ridiculous, kinda teeny bopper friendly and Miley Cyrus fan’s relatable.

description

Far Fetched would be the first word that keeps popping up in my mind regarding Nick the now legit member of society is a Disc Jockey. He lands a music producing spot with the most famous girl in the industry.

On to the love triangle aspect of the story… Sadie is a former child star from a popular television program and her sidekick on the show Gia is now her assistant. Gia is supposedly witty…didn’t find her to be at all, but she was nice. She seems to let her light hide for Sadie.

Nick decides that bedding the superstar will work wonders in getting her to agree to record the songs the record company wants instead of the direction the star wants to go. Sadie and Nick seem to have a decent start but Nick seems taken with Gia and things take off from here. There was cheating, there were a couple of reveals one of which was good the second a reader will see coming a mile away.

”We couldn’t be together, I was with Sadie. I was committed to my career and she was the way to get what I wanted. No matter how I felt about Gia.”

The part that irked me the most was that the author decided to go the straight out bitch route with one character so a reader will excuse cheating and Nick not having any balls of his own. When Nick realizes who he wants and it falls apart, he stays with who he doesn’t.

"I'd decided that the best thing I could do for my sanity was try and make things work with ______."

At times it appeared things could work and in my opinion it would have been a much better story if the bad girl changed as well.

On a positive note, I loved the writing, the cover, the pace of the story, LILIA and TUCKER and that sweet, sweet ending.

"I love music, but I love you more."

So here's the thing, most people are probably going into this story hating Nick.. I, on the other hand went into this story already half in love with him. *gasp* Yes, I was on Team Nick. Even after he was a douchebag. Because I just had a feeling he would redeem himself in some way. He just made some stupid mistakes, hell we all do.

Anyways in my eyes he does redeem himself in his book. But it was done in a way that didn't take away from his character. You don't go into this story afraid Elizabeth Lee is going to make him so different that you hate it. Because she doesn't. He is still a con man for the majority of the book but I found myself falling more and more in love with him and understanding him. Oh and he's hot.. so that doesn't hurt. I think what I enjoyed most about this story was being in his head. Knowing how he was feeling through everything. The way he grew in this book was fantastic too. I never doubted he could be the person he becomes. So if you weren't Team Nick before, you'd be crazy not to be Team Nick after hearing his story. Enter the world of Nick, Sadie and Gia. You won't be disappointed.

A bit disappointed in the second installment in this series by Elizabeth Lee. I was absolutely taken by "Give Me Something" and immediately drawn to Nick's character from the moment he walked onto the page. Who can turn their back on a good-looking bad boy? And Nick just stole the show with that attitude filled with all kinds of mischief and cockiness. Well, he walks onto the pages in this one the same way but loses it along the way. I didn't like his character as much this time around. He does manage to bail himself out of the sewer towards the end and for that I was very thankful. It just took a little too long and after too many bad moves in regards to that hateful and awful Sadie. I couldn't stand that woman and felt several times that she needed a swift kick and a hard one at that! And I really found Gia's character a bit weak and immature. She put up with a bunch of crap but in some ways I almost felt like she deserved what she got. The severity of her problems demanded a much more personal approach. Allowing someone else to handle such important and life changing problems for you or to take their word for how someone else reacts to them just doesn't seem mature or completely realistic -- especially in la-la land.

Lastly, I was a little perturbed at the ending. Yeah, there was a happily-ever-after but it was rushed and seemed to be lacking those extra special somethings that always make an extra-special peek into their future.

I expected to love this story and in some ways I really liked it a lot, but it didn't nearly fulfill the expectations I had for it. And I was shocked at the number of editing problems -- just simple overlooked typos and spelling errors which bug the heck out of me.

Nick Nick Nick that jackhole is back and in fine form. I know what you are all thinking… it’s going to be hard to get me to forgive that scoundrel. Trust me I was in the same boat as you guys. I mean what a jerk he was in Give Me Something right??? I decided to go into this book with an open mind because I figured he had to have something worth loving in him for Lila to care so deeply for him plus there is nothing I like more than a redeemable asshole. Did he redeem himself? Well…. Nick is Nick after all. He is a schemer and a con. Just because he has decided to give the straight and narrow a try doesn’t mean he can be successful at it. Going legit is going to be a little hard for him and he’s not above using a few of his old tricks to get where he wants to be and that is on top. He plans to parlay his DJing career into a successful turn at producing. Getting his foot into the competitive music world will be tough so he jumps at the chance to work for a major record label producing the next album of their “problem child” pop star Sadie Sinclair. Ugh she is a cookie cutter brat with very little talent and a huge fan base… but she’s hot and totally manageable… at least that’s what Nick and the label are banking on. Nick knows he got this gig by default because no one else could handle Sadie so that’s exactly what he plans to do. Handle her and prove that he is a talented producer in the process. It’s not going to be that hard, she’s a brat, but she is easy on the eyes and he can keep her happy and persuade her to do the album the label’s way instead of her way using his “many” talents. This job is right up his alley!

A cake walk for a con like him right? Cue the curveball… Gia. Sadie’s beautiful but no nonsense assistant. She is the wild card Nick isn’t prepared for. She’s smart and sexy and she handles Sadie better than anyone. She also sees right through Nick and his BS. Hmmmm… what is he thinking getting close to her? She could ruin everything. He is just too intrigued by her. She is a mystery and she has secrets that he is dying to figure out.

What will our handsome bad boy do when faced with getting everything he ever wanted or sacrificing his dreams for love? Well it’s Nick… a tiger doesn’t change his stripes over night… so… who knows! What I do know is that I loved that the author kept him true to his nature. There is no magical 360 degree change in our man. He is as deplorable and choke worthy as he was in Give Me Something but he grows and his self awareness and character are built at a believable pace. You will fall a little less in hate and a little more in love with him as you go. The story grabs you and keeps you invest from page one. It’s not a typical love story. It’s Nick finding out who Nick wants to be. I really liked some of the secondary characters introduced in this book (there is one particular little lady that will grab your heart and melt some big boys into puddles) and of course our favorites from the first book are back. Tucker & Lila are as snarky and awesome as ever. Nobody puts Nick in his place like his Rae can after all. ;)

Favorite Quotes:

"There are two things I know inside, outside and upside down, sir. Music and women. There is not a doubt in my mind that I cannot only please Miss Sinclair, but you also. I just need a shot."

"I moved down just so I could move my mouth back up. I wanted to savor every minute with her. To taste every inch of her."

If you read Give Me Something, then you probably walked away with a bad taste in your mouth for Nick Dammery. I couldn't decide whether to love him or hate him in Give Me Something but I was definitely leaning toward hate. The funny part is I actually ended up enjoying this book more than Give Me Something which surprised me since I didn't "love" Nick at the end of Give Me Something.

At the start of Taking Something, we find Nick has cleaned up his life a bit, he is a DJ in high demand and has mended fences with not only his best friend Lila but his brother Tucker (these two happen to be married and expecting a baby). Nick enjoys being a DJ but what he really wants to do is produce music. On of his gigs as a DJ gives him the opportunity. And if there is anything we know, Nick doesn't miss out on opportunities. He sets out to charm the pants off record executive Hollace Westwood who is making an appearance at the club where Nick is DJing. Nick does what Nick does best and charms Sadie Sinclair, Hollace's number one client, into giving him a chance to produce her new album.

Off to LA, Nick goes. Nick's plan is simple: sleep with Sadie, make her feel special, get her to record the songs the record label needs, establish his career as a producer and move on. As we know, nothing is ever that simple. Not only does Sadie have a whole laundry list of her own problems but Nick's intrigued by Sadie's assistant, Gia Grayson. There seems to be more to her than meets the eye.

Nick's old self (the one who demands he focuses on nothing but his career) and Nick's new self (that wants what Lila and Tucker seem to have) are at odds. Which way will he go and will he change his ways permanently? What is Gia hiding and what does she have to offer Nick? If you want to know, then read this one fast!

I'll just put this out there: when I first heard EL was writing Nick's book I was kind of surprised. Sure, he redeemed himself at the very end of Give Me Something, but he still wasn't a character I actually liked very much. The fact that EL wrote this book and completely changed my perspective on Nick is what makes this worth reading alone! I absolutely LOVE Elizabeth's writing style- it is so much fun and you can't help but be drawn into the pure wit and humor that this particular set of characters possesses. Not to mention- Nick will totally steal your heart!

He is still as cocky and arrogant as ever as the book starts, but there is still something incredibly endearing about him. Nick starts off very self-centered and while some may be turned off by that, you can't help but resist his charm! He's only looking to further his own personal gain and plays music sensation Sadie Sinclair straight from the start. He doesn't have feelings for her, but lets her believe he likes her, as this is his big chance to break out as a music producer and if he messes it up- well he won't ever have a shot in hell at working in the music industry. Nick ends up finding himself trapped as she could make or break him. I wanted to laugh at him and tell him he got what he deserved for trying to con his way into the industry, but along the way Nick starts to develop a conscience and of course- meets a girl.

Gia Grayson is sweet, beautiful, and doesn't fall for Nick's crap. She sees what he's about from day one and is initially disgusted by him. She knows why he is with Sadie, but doesn't rat him out, as she is essentially in the same position. Gia is Sadie's personal assistant and is very guarded and has secrets of her own she's not willing to share. Sadie treats her like crap and yet she still doesn't leave. She has her reasons for this and feels obligated to her long time 'friend'. I love how selfless Gia was. She would sacrifice her own happiness and love with Nick to ensure he keeps his dream job. She won't let herself be the reason he walks away from it all. She also won't be the other woman while Nick is with Sadie. I respected Gia so much and I admire that she tried to just be friends with Nick. But hey- the heart wants what the heart wants. I was Team Gia from the start- Nick can't help but be attracted to the woman that doesn't take his shit and isn't afraid to call him out for being an idiot. She reminds him of Lila, the one other woman he has loved in his lifetime.

Speaking of Lila... we get to see her quite a bit in this book which made me really happy! Her and Tucker got the HEA they both deserved and I loved watching them interact with Nick. The three have become incredibly close and even more so now that Lila and Tucker have a special surprise coming. :)

We do meet some new characters and I have to say I could NOT stand Sadie. She was a spoiled, stuck up brat who thought the world should bow to her because she's a music princess. Ugh. Nick has quite the job on his hands of coercing Sadie to sing the songs the label wants her to- especially when she wants to become a singer/songwriter and record her own songs. She was extremely clingy and constantly on a need to know basis as to what Nick was doing, who he was with, and where he was. Sadie had no personality of her own. When she realized Nick didn't like her clingy, jealous side she started acting like a completely different person just to please him. She's manipulative and catty and has been keeping a big secret from Gia.

Landry Westwood is another character that we meet that I actually enjoyed. Landry is also a singer, but he is more down to earth than Sadie could ever be. It is evident Sadie still has a crush on him, but he doesn't give the fiery red-head another glance. Lee could have taken Landry's character in such another direction and I have to say I'm really glad she didn't. He was a genuine good guy, who really stepped up in the end and acted like an adult after finding out some pretty heavy information.

Audrey is also another favorite of mine! She is too cute for words and I really liked the scenes with her- especially that epilogue!

Watching Nick get his ass kicked by love and see him realize what he really wants for his life and what he is willing to give up is absolutely what makes this story. We start off with a cocky, self-assured guy who thinks he's God's gift to women and can make them bend to his will and we end with a completely different guy who has fallen hard for a beautiful, sweet, intelligent woman that challenges him in a way no woman has for a long time.

Obviously I really enjoyed this one and you will definitely want to pick this one up! You will love Gia and Nick's chemistry, the storyline, and the fun-loving characters Lee has created.

If you had asked me to describe Nick in one word after finishing Give Me Something, I wouldn’t have even faltered – Asshole. Nick Dammery was a Grade A asshole. So, when I found out Elizabeth was not only giving Nick his own story, but a story that would bring him to redemption, I was thinking “This girl has lost her marbles!” No way. She is not going to make me change my mind about him. Not gonna happen, Elizabeth – not gonna happen.

Cut to me eating a nice, big piece of crow-berry pie.

Somehow, someway, Elizabeth didn’t just redeem Nick in my eyes; she found a way to make me root for him, and maaaybe fall just a little bit in love with him, too.

"The way I see it, sometimes the best ideas people have are the ones others put in their heads."

Taking Something throws you alongside Nick as he chases his dream of making it big as a producer in the music business. When he charms his way into producing pop music’s biggest diva, Sadie Sinclair’s next album, he thinks he has it made in the shade. He’ll use his incredibly good looks and panty-dropping charm that made his career as a con artist so successful. Sadie will be eating out of the palm of his hand, he’ll make a name for himself, and spend his days living the high life. But when you throw in Sadie’s assistant, Gia Greyson, the future Nick has always pictured doesn’t seem so clear anymore. Now, Nick has to choose – keep his career and everything he has worked so hard for, or do something he’s never done before...throw it all away for love.

The old Nick Kline -- the one who'd lived most of his life as Nick Dammery -- was dead, and the new one was being forced to live a life that he couldn't lie, cheat, or fuck his way out of.

This storyline was remarkable, and Elizabeth’s writing blew me away. She continually takes leaps and bounds forward with each novel she releases, and this one is by far her best work. The character progression of Nick didn’t feel rushed or forced, it felt very real. While there is a love triangle, it’s not a typical one. It’s very clear who Nick has real feelings for, and who he is just using to get ahead so I never felt the tug-of-war effect that love triangles usually have on me. Gia was like a breath of fresh air in a world full of sharks, and Sadie Sinclair is the biggest one in the sea. She is the stereotypical child star turned pop icon, and lord have mercy is she a DIVA! Whew. There were times I would almost start to feel bad for her, but then a plot twist would make me recoil back and want to slap the pretty right off of her face!

description

I loved that Tucker and Lila were both involved in this novel, and as Nick’s only family, I’m not sure how Elizabeth could have written this story without them. Tucker will always be one of my favorite book boyfriends, and I loved getting another dose of Lila sass. Along with these two love birds, we get a cameo from country superstars Kylie Ryans and Trace Corbin, and are introduced to R&B superstar, Landry Westwood. Psssst, Elizabeth – Landry needs his own story. That is all. K, thanks, bye.

Taking Something is a fun, witty, journey of redemption, love, and discovering just what is really important in life. I never thought I’d say it, but I’m glad Nick got his happily ever after and I couldn’t have imagined a better leading lady to tame this former con artist.

So can a bad boy who made a living out of conning people into what he wanted really go straight edge and work for everything he wants and needs? Elizabeth Lee explores the possibility in Taking Something, the amazing followup to Give Me Something. Nick and Lila spent so much time conning their way through life. But when Lila gives in to her ultimate temptation and gambles on live, Nick is left to survive and thrive on his own. But the question is, can he do it? Can he give up the life that he had grown so accustomed to to and actually earn what is his and keep it?

Elizabeth Lee takes us on another amazing adveture in this book and I was certain after a chapter or two that all bets were off on Nick. I wasn’t sure if he had it in him to turn his life around and fight for what he wanted instead of conning people into it.

Nick has decided that he actually loves his new job, spinning records as a DJ in Chicago. But he wants more. He is a smart man. Certainally he can find a way to get everything he wants. When he convices the big record label guy to take a shot on an unknown to produce the album of the year, everything that Nick knows is going to be questioned. He knew if he just charmed the amazingly rich and famous Sadie Sinclair, he would get everything.

Of course the best laid plans hit him straight in the face when Gia, Sadie’s assistant walked into the room. Sadie and Gia had a great working relationship on the outside. But there was nothing but turmoil and bad blood between the two of them and the tangled web of lies and deceit that Nick was now a part of hit him full force.

He wanted one thing he couldn’t have because he conviced the other that he wanted her. Holy mother of all rides. There is so many layers to this story and even though we loved to hate Nick in the first book in this series, in this book, we struggled along with him, hoping things ended up just the way we want them to. We wanted Nick to man up and take charge of the situation that he found himself in, we wanted him to not only grab life and run with it, but prove everyone wrong.

Nick truly stole my heart in this book, but it wasn’t the conning that did it. It was his concious. I wanted to find room to hate him but in the end, I wanted him to get what he deserved out of life and to prove that he was better than all of the cons of his past. But he truly met his match in Sadie. And suddenly the picture became a whole lot clearer.

He wanted Gia. But Gia had a walk in closet of skelatons all her own and there was no way that she was going to let him in to find the secrets. When push comes to sove and hearts are tugged, it truly becomes more than a personal choice. When so many lifes are involved, Nick does the unthinkable and mans up to what he wants.

This book was emotional and touching but I found myself wanting Nick to take the high road throughout the entire thing. I believe people can change. Nick certianly took several gambles in this book and only the ending would prove wheter or not those chances would pay off.

Elizabeth Lee writes characters that I can connect with. It is there story, but I found myself struggling right along with the characters. I found myself praying for a new beginning filled with love and happiness for Nick. I melted into Nick’s charm and ways even if I was torn on how the book would end.

This is a great read and one I know I will revisit! You will not want to miss this book!

Review:

We met Nick in Give Me Something as a con-artist with little regard for how he treated people. However, by the end of that book Nick had grown on me and I really wanted him to be happy. So I was excited for his story and his chance at a HEA.

Do you need to read Give Me Something first? No. But you will probably be scratching your head a little during the scenes with Lila from the first book. So it’s would be a good idea to.

Nick has been trying to live his life on the straight and narrow but he is an opportunist. He sees a chance to get in good with a major record label as a producer (his dream job) and he takes it. Effectively “conning” his way in the door, and to lock the position down he beds the beautiful pop star he is working with, Sadie Sinclair. But with this con he’s bitten off more than he can chew.

Sadie Sinclair is a narcissistic sociopath. I mean I could tell you she’s selfish, bratty, and spoiled, but that wouldn’t convey how evil I found her character to be. Nick finds himself “trapped” in a relationship with her early on, knowing that if he leaves her she will take any chance of his future career goals away from him. He was warned beforehand not to get involved with her, but he did anyway and I didn’t feel bad for him. I felt as though he made his bed now he’s got to lay in it.

What makes this all the more frustrating for Nick is that he is falling for her assistant Gia. He basically pursues her relentlessly knowing they can’t be together because it would cost them both their jobs. Which was another dick move on Nick’s part. He really does make a ton of bad decisions throughout the book, I wanted to root for him but sometimes I just wanted to slap him upside the head…

So basically it boils down to love or money. If you read the first one you know how far Nick will go for money. Will he also give up his chance at true love?

Overall, I liked but not loved Nick’s story. I wanted to “feel” more connected to his character than I was. However, it was a great storyline, with interesting characters. If you liked the first one I highly recommend you read this one. I don’t think I’d recommend it as a standalone.

I have never read before a book that it has only a male point of view. Nick is the only person who tells the story and I think that happened to keep the reader guessing with whom he would end up with. I haven't read the first book, but from what I got he was involved in a triangle before. Not many people can say that they were a part of a triangle more than once. It's clear that Nick is only using Sadie, but you never know what is going to happen. I had the feeling that the book would turn out to be something similar to Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and I was freaked out (a lot!)

Nick was a likeable character most of the time. Gia was good. Landry is the one I loved and I wanted to see him happy. I was about to demand a book about him, but the author covered that in her story. Sadie is the craziest person I have ever seen in a book. What I didn't like was the similarity Sadie had with Miley Cyrus. A sweetheart who got famous while she was young by singing and acting, now wants to act more sexually and leave her sweet persona behind.

I want to warn you that the book contains cheating. I know that everyone is not ok with that and I thought the reader should know. I have already told you about the triangle so I won't comment further. I would also like to warn you about Nick's way's of persuasion.

Cute quick read! I liked Nick in the first book, but didn't love him. His scheming ways was a big turn off, but definitely loved his story despite what I would have anticipated.

I will say Elizabeth Lee does know how to write a complete star studded bitch very we'll IMHO! Sadie's roll was flawless in my opinion. I hated her and thought her portrayal of her was spot on.
Gia was a sweet thing who liked to keep to herself and had a few secrets she didn't want any light shed upon. Nick fell for Gia while he was going after his career and Sadie. Gia put Nick in his place more than once and I loved every second of it.
Landry was a wild card in the beginning. I didn't know how he fit into the equation, but it was explained and I hope he gets a story.
Recommend reading this series!

Oh and I loved how Kylie Ryans had a line in this book--loved Caisey Quinn's books!

I could not stop reading. This was an amazing read. Wow. I don't think there are any other words to describe this book.

It moved along at the perfect pace from the very first word till the very last. The characters were awesome and you cannot help but fall in love with them and the story was fantastic.

I cannot wait to read more from this amazing author.

Taking Something takes place around four years after Give Me Something ends and it is both a great and interesting time in the lives of Nick, Tucker, and Lila. Nick has made a bit of a name for himself as an emerging club DJ with quite an ear for mixing music, but his real dream is to be a music producer. He spends his time all over the country mixing music at various events, but as the book opens he is back in his home - Chicago - for a big event at a local nightclub. Word has it that a huge record executive, Hollace Westwood, will be in attendance at this event and Nick wants to make sure he networks and rubs elbows with the man. Nick spins a great show and uses his cunning ways not only to gain entrance to the VIP section where he finds not only the record executive he is seeking but the hottest name in pop music, Sadie Sinclair. (That's more than he expected but HEY he'll take it!) After witnessing a diva-like fit by the pop star and worming his way up to the record executive, Nick found himself with a one-shot chance-of-a-lifetime: HE gets to produce Sadie Sinclair's next pop album. YES! Finally! A foot in the door!

The problem is this: Sadie doesn't want to do things the way the record company wants her to. Nick's job is to MAKE her do things their way. And record it. BOOM.

Nick feels certain if he can deliver on his promise to Mr. Westwood it will open more opportunities for him within the industry and his career will take off. Even though he has been warned that Sadie is a handful, he feels confident that he can still deliver and great product for the record label that satisfies both the artist AND the label (he's a little on the cocky side). Not only does Nick underestimate Sadie by a longshot but he also doesn't even consider her assistant, Gia, and what she will bring to the table.

I love this story SO MUCH. I had such a great time reading it.

**********************************************

Taking Something by Elizabeth Lee is so great because it is filled with not only a great romance but it has the characters I loved from the first book (always a plus for me!). PLUS I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVED the way the music industry was so prominent in the book. I've read books that featured music before, but I'm not sure that I can remember a book that featured THIS side of the music industry and in such a huge way. It's almost like the author knows the ins-and-outs of the industry herself and is giving us a peek at how it works. I found myself really caught up in the making of the album during those particular scenes, and I really loved that.

Nick begins this book in a much better place than he ended Give Me Something, which was pretty great. Somewhere between the two books, he grew, and what we see when we open Taking Something is a guy that realizes that he has made some mistakes in his past. He realizes that he doesn't want the kind of life he has had before, so he changed it. There is character growth before the book begins and there is character growth during this book as well - double YAY! See, Nick begins the book as a man on a mission: launch his career, period. That is all. He sees his opportunity, he takes his opportunity, he does what he has to along the way to further himself (even when he has to grit his teeth a bit and even when he doesn't really want to). The thing that is really great is that as the book progresses, Nick begins to NOT LIKE the man he has become and, well, he changes himself again. HOW he changes himself is something you'll just have to see for yourself...

Sadie is just...WOW. She is the absolute image of a pop-star diva extraordinaire. Sadie is a has-been child star-turned-pop star that wants to shed her squeaky clean image and be "all grown up" now. She was once managed by her mom (but isn't anymore), she has had a slew of bad paparazzi photos, she's done some crazy things, had a few engagements, had a less-than-stellar mugshot, and has an attitude that stinks like last week's trash. I love the image that I have of her in my mind because it is this mash-up of several current pop culture icons, which made reading her character a ton of fun. Sadie is very manipulative when it comes to Nick and her music - honestly, the more I read her the more I didn't like her - but I really enjoyed not liking her. Was that supposed to happen? I don't know but was really fun.

And then there is Gia, Sadie's assistant. She is kind of like the wild card in this book, in my opinion. She is sneaky because for the longest time, you don't really know what Gia is thinking, what her motives are. She seems to have a chip on her shoulder sometimes, but then other times she lets her walls down and you can almost see past her facade. I love this character and the more I read her and the more deeply she becomes broken down as a character, I realize WHY I love her. I'm not giving away secrets, but WOW. This gal is something else and I mean that in a good way. Gia is not perfect - she is flawed - and we all know that I love flawed, vulnerable characters. BUT where Gia is vulnerable and flawed, she is also incredibly strong and resilient. This combination in a character sometimes leads to a bit of stubbornness, and Gia is one of those characters, but this is one of the things I love about her. Her scenes in the book (along with the scenes with Lila) are among my favorites. When you read her, you may agree.

There are new secondary characters in this book, and OF COURSE I love them. I'd love to know more about them (looking at you, Landry!). The characters from the previous book are in SUCH a fun place in their lives and their part in the story is such a great one and made me smile several times. The romance is great in this book but not over-the-top...it's just perfect. ALSO: two high-fives to the author for writing a really great non-cheesy, non-standard epilogue! I LOVED IT.

I recommend Taking Something by Elizabeth Lee to fans of Contemporary Romance. It is new adult, yes, but rather than featuring college students, this book features mainly characters that are starting out careers and homes within the age-bracket of the new age category. I also recommend this book to fans of music, singing, and the music industry in general. I enjoyed this one so much - for it to be connected to/in a series with Give Me Something, it was so different, and I think it is awesome to find such a broad range within a series...from con artists to music industry professionals. Really, guys, this is ANOTHER favorite by author Elizabeth Lee - I know I keep saying that but it is just the plain ole' truth. This series easily goes into my re-read pile.

In Taking Something by Elizabeth Lee we get Nick's story after everything that happened in Give Me Something (GMS). This story could be read as a standalone and you wouldn't have too many problems with what is going on during this book. However I highly recommend that you start with Give Me Something before reading Taking Something for a few reasons. One, because Give Me Something is a great book! I can't even tell you how much I loved it. Two, because you get to meet Nick for the first time as well as Lila and Tucker who are also in Taking Something (TS). I think reading the first book definitely gives the reader some much needed insight into Nick's character and how he ends up in the position he is in when we start TS. Like I said though it isn't necessary, but just what I would recommend. Taking Something was fantastic though! As much as I loved GMS I honestly didn't expect to love this one as much, but Elizabeth Lee proved me wrong. These books are must reads in my opinion, and if you haven't read them yet you are missing out!

After losing the only girl he has ever loved, Nick is determined to have a successful career in music. He has stopped being a con artist and has been working a legit job as a DJ. He really wants to become a music producer though, and when the opportunity presents itself Nick goes out of his way to convince the higher ups at a recording label to give him a shot. Only problem is, Nick will be working with Sadie Sinclair who has a reputation of being hard to work with. Nick knows women and music though and is determined to use that knowledge to his advantage. But when things turn from just business to business and pleasure really quickly, Nick is forced to change his plan. What he doesn't expect though is to be drawn to Sadie's personal assistant Gia. Gia is unlike anyone he has ever met before, and worse he can't stop thinking about her. Now Nick must decide if his career is worth sacrificing for a shot with Gia, or if he is willing to give up a shot of love in order to have the career that he has dreamed of.

I will be the first to admit that I loved Nick in Give Me Something. He really made me mad at the end of the book though because I had been rooting for him from the start. I knew towards the end though that he wasn't meant for Lila, and that he was capable of redeeming himself. He absolutely did, and it was so nice to see his evolution from that book to this one. I thought that we really got to see through his POV in this story that he was so much more than we had seen in GMS. He was still the confident and sexy charmer, but he was also a bit damaged and insecure from everything that he had been through. I really enjoyed seeing him fall hard in this one and really become the best person that he could be not only for himself but for others. I really didn't like Sadie. She was manipulative, selfish and just plain mean. I was waiting for her to get what was coming to her the whole book. She would have moments where you would think maybe there was something more to her, and then she would just turn around and show that she really was just as bad as you had originally thought. I loved Gia though. She was sweet and protective. I knew there was so much more to her story that what we were getting, and I have to admit that I never saw it coming. She had her reasons for doing everything she did and when it all came out, it just made me like her that much more. She had been through so much, and yet she was able to do what she needed to. She was definitely one of the most likable characters that I have read in a long time, and she seemed so real to me. I thought that Gia and Nick had amazing chemistry right from the start, and it was clear that they had a strong connection.

Overall, this book was fantastic. I thought that the characters were all deep and interesting. I couldn't put this one down, and I had to keep reading to see what would happen. I love how Elizabeth Lee always keeps you guessing, and you never know what twist or turn will happen next! I have loved both books in this series, and they never turn out exactly as I expect but they always end exactly how they should. This story was definitely one that will stick with me, and I loved seeing Nick become the man that Lila always knew he could be. It was great to see him finally figure things out, and I loved that he was still close with Lila but also was now close to Tucker as well! It was also so nice to see how things had turned out for Lila and Tucker, and I was so glad to get a bit more of them in Taking Something. I highly recommend this series, and I really can't go into all the reasons why I love these books without spoilers. But these books definitely shouldn't be missed and I think that they are ones that romance fans of all genres will really become invested in and enjoy. I can't wait to read more from Elizabeth Lee in the future and will be anxious to see what she comes up with next.

I didn't read the synopsis of this book before I just jumped into it. I can say I never hated Nick, I felt sorry for him that with all that he did, he just did it wrong. Even in this book you can still tell how much he loves Lila, but I like how he has taken that love and developed himself into a better person. Or at least he is trying to be a better person. This book he is so typical of himself and he falls back into bad habits. The drama of this book was torturing me. Nick was killing me slowly and I wanted him to wake up and smell the coffee. I loved how Lila & Tucker were still very much a part of this book. They may not have had big parts but it was enough for you to get a much bigger picture of where they all landed at the end of the last book. I'm sorry to say I totally guessed the big secret that was being hidden and man these new characters are driving me batty. I don't want to mention names because that would give too much away but for me the drama in this book was killing me. It was just enough to drive me crazy but not so much that I was just pissed at the book and getting mad. It was a fun read and I like how the author concluded this little duet. Yes they are companion books but they still are entwined and I like how she gave us our HEA. Enjoy

I was bracing myself for this story, because I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to like Nick after what we saw of him in the first book. He wasn’t exactly an endearing character, and I wasn’t waiting at the edge of my seat for his HEA. Leave it to Elizabeth Lee, though, to make even a guy like him somehow likeable!

Now that’s not to say we get a straight-laced and newly reformed Nick for the entirety of his story. No, in fact, I really didn’t like a lot of choices he was making and I wanted to strangle him at times. You see, Nick, while attempting to do things on the up and up, still found himself in quite a tough situation. Determined to make a name for himself in the music industry now that he’d worked his way into a deejay position at a club, Nick grabbed up the opportunity to get his foot in the door when the infamous superstar Sadie Sinclair waltzed in with the owner of her recording company. He’s smooth, and the timing was just right since Sadie was looking to change her image with something fresh. Something and someone fresh, a position which Nick was more than happy to fill.

Buuuut, don’t get yourself too wrapped up in the idea of a rags-to-riches romance tale, because that’s not at all what this is. There’s more going on here, and a big factor is Sadie’s trusty and often stepped upon assistant Gia Grayson. She’s sweet but assertive when it comes to Nick, and she called him on every move he made. She saw through his façade, which rattled him in a way he wasn’t expecting, and it made for a huge complication in Nick’s plotting. It also made for some backstabbing and cheating, which I didn’t agree with even though Sadie was pretty despicable. He was torn between the new ‘follow your heart’ Nick and the old conniving Nick, and it was anyone’s guess who’d win out in the end.

While Nick’s story was definitely entertaining, the believability factor was a challenge for me. He worms his way into the music industry through one of the hottest artists around without any experience, and he won Sadie over without even having to try. If he had had to struggle a bit first, pull some con artist maneuvering in order to get his start, it could have been a smoother transition. I liked the version of Nick we get when he’s with Gia, though, so in the end I was relieved to see the changes he had made for her. He redeemed himself in the long run, even if he had to take the bumpy road to get there!

Quotes:

“Nick Kline doesn’t do done, sweetheart.” I paused to let my stare penetrate hers, making sure to get the full effect of my intensity across. “And for the record, it’s gonna take a lot more than idle threats to find out if there are any tats on my ass.” ~p. 62

My need to convince Gia I was a decent guy and earn her trust wasn’t about Sadie anymore. Not even a little bit. It was about the little voice that sounded a hell of a lot like Lila in my head. ~p. 91

I was right back to square one. She was like that last bit of heroin running through my veins. The little bit that keeps begging for more. ~p. 134

Nick had screwed up probably the best thing that ever happened in his life and it went to his brother. Now, it was time to move on, be happy for his, ahem, best friend and fulfill his long-time dream: becoming a music producer.

He’s in for the biggest con of his life – he didn’t expect it would be that fast. He entered the music industry swiftly, got himself a client, and is about to get laid by a pop sensation. He was living his dreams already!!!

He had met his match and she’s a REAL PIECE OF WORK.

Because Sadie Sinclair might be America’s Sweetheart, but she has a lot on her than she lets on. Then there’s Gia – she used to be Sadie’s sidekick in one of her shows and is now her personal assistant. Despite the fact that he’s with Sadie, he couldn’t help but be attracted and be intrigued with her PA. She’s pretty, mysterious and she works real hard. She could have been big, and she still has her offers – why settle on becoming a PA?

Sadie reminded me of someone who is currently in the music industry today – and who’s name I won’t mention. I’m sure her name would come into your minds once you have read this novel. I think she fits perfectly to the role of Sadie. I don’t like her initially, and I hated her as the story goes. She’s a prima donna, she’s rude, and she doesn’t have manners. Fame, bitterness and envy got into her brain and clouded it. It is just sad that Nick had to stay with her for the sake of his dreams, when he could have Gia all along.

Gia – you got to love her, and wished really hard she’d slap Sadie so hard her head will spin. She allowed her so-called friend to walk all over her, and brainwashed her when she needed help the most. She fed on her vulnerability. She wanted Nick, but because he’s with Sadie, she stepped back. Gia was selfless to a fault. This great girl has some secrets well-kept only she and Sadie know about, and Nick is going to find out what it is.

I hated Nick at first, but as the story continues, you can see his character change. From someone who will do anything for his dreams, he definitely did a 180. I thought at first he would succumb to the temptation, but he made me proud with his decisions. It was pretty hard, considering everything he did to finally reach where he is, but it was all worth it.

It’s showbiz! Lies, manipulation and deception runs through every corner of it – I wonder how long Nick will last. He might have grown up conning, but immediately realized that this was totally way different than he was used to. The stakes were bigger, the consequences graver, and his heart might be on the line.

After the entire chase, the heartbreaks and the deception – it call came into one scene I hadn’t expected. I don’t know why I liked it so much, despite its simplicity; it was beautiful, shows that love has the capacity of NOT BEING COMPLICATED. From the cover down to its contents: I so love the twists, getting inside the blitz, glamour and dirty alleys of show business, falling in love and hating the complex characters and most especially the ending.

Nick Dammery returns! HELLS YES. ♥ Oh, but he goes by Nick Kline now. I really don’t care what his last name is...this is MY Nick damnit! Resident asshole always wins my heart. ;-) And throw in some tattoos and I am a goner!

So when we left Nick in Give Me Something, he was actually making amends and building family ties with Tucker. The only family he had ever known was Lila and she talked him into sticking around in Chicago even after she broke his heart by choosing his brother over him. But honestly I can say looking back now, that Lila and Nick truly were meant to be best friends. As you will see in this book, they can give each other shit as only best friends do.

Nick is still pursuing music down every avenue that he can; producer, DJ, you name it, and he would probably give it a go to make it big in the industry. Then a chance encounter at a club with music mogul, Hollace Westwood, and Nick has talked his way to Los Angeles to produce a record with the diva superstar, Sadie Sinclair. Once a con, always a con artist. At least his intentions this time are more about advancing his career and less about how much money he can score from an intended target.

Oh Sadie Sinclair, I could tell this one was trouble from the moment she threw her first bratty fit. She is a D-I-V-A in every sense. Your regular child star turned coming of age pop star. At first she is not at all happy that some nobody is producing her album. But as anyone that has met Nick knows, he can turn on the charm (and the con) like no other. He quickly makes his way into her studio, and next into her bed. Well, that was quick Nick. *coughs, manwhore*

He is a man on a mission. He is here to produce this album and become the next household name when it comes to music. He will trade his soul with the she-devil that is Sadie to make this happen. However, his plans just might be spoiled when he meets the likes of Gia Grayson, Sadie's assistant. She sasses him and calls him out just like Lila does. And she gets under his skin, and he can’t shake thinking about her no matter how much he tries to drown her out with Sadie lovin’. Gotta love the girls that EL brings to life. Strong, sassy and hell bent on putting these men in their place. WOOT, GIRL POWER!

There is SO much that happens in this book but you will have to give the book a read to find out. I will say that I definitely LOVED this book just as I have LOVED everything Elizabeth Lee has written. And with this being one of my most anticipated reads for 2014, I will say that it definitely did not disappoint. I am going to assume that if you are reading this review that you have already read book 1, Give Me Something, however, if you haven't definitely give it a try (even if I spoiled some things for you). You will definitely fall in love with the characters and the story in book 1. And for those of you that have already read book 1, what are you waiting for?!?! GO GET YA SOME NICK LOVIN’ in book 2. ;-)

Received ARC for my honest opinion.

**KIM'S REVIEW**

“As far as I could tell, you made your own luck in life-which is exactly what I was trying to do.”

At the end of Give Me Something, I couldn’t stand Nick so I was interested to see if he was able to redeem himself in Taking Something. Let me tell you now…he absolutely does!

“There are two things I know inside, outside and upside down, sir. Music and women.”

Nick is now an A-Lister DJ. He wants to get into producing music and one night at a club, Hollace Westwood, a record label owner, happens to be there. It also helps that pop superstar, Sadie Sinclair, is there and is unhappy with who produced her last album. She wants something new and fresh and Nick thinks he’s the guy for the job. He knows that if he can pull this off he can than move onto bigger and better things.

“A con’s job is to utilize any and all information to make his mark vulnerable, right?”

At first Nick thinks nothing of bedding Sadie in order to help further his career. Even if means having to pretend to be in a relationship with her. That is until he meets Sadie’s assistant, Gia. Gia reminds him of Lila and he is slowly starting to fall in love with her. This is something new to him and he’s not sure what to do about it. He knows that if he gives into his feels for Gia that it could ruin his future career but is it a change he’s willing to take? Is it a chance Gia is willing to take?

“I want you so bad.”

“You can’t want me.”

“I can’t not.”

Gia is holding onto a secret from her past that she doesn’t want anyone to know. Unfortunately, her fate is also in Sadie’s hands. Will these two be able to get out from under Sadie’s grasp or will she ruin something for them they never knew they could have?

“The way I see it, sometimes the best ideas people have are the ones others put in their heads.”

I liked Give Me Something but Taking Something is even better! Nick, Lila and Tucker have all seemed to call a truce in the name of family and it was something Nick truly needed in his life. He was able to see that he wanted the type of love that they have for himself. Nick truly did believe he loved Lila, he just didn’t know how to show it until it was too little too late. This book is his second chance at love and it’s amazing to watch the progression of his character from book 1 to now. It was gradual but it helped him remain true to himself. I really loved being able to get into Nick’s head and see that he really does have a heart. If you liked book 1 then this is an absolute must read.

“But could I do the happily ever after? I wasn’t sure if I even deserved one.”

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

NICK IS BACK!!

Yes thats right the conning womanising idiot is back and this time with his own book......told entirely in his point of view.

I went into this story a bit unsure about what I would feel about Nick as I detested him in book 1- Give me something.

But it really was a very good story.

It begins with Nick, whom appears to have turned his life around, enjoying his job as a DJ but wanting more. He doesnt just want to play the music, he wants to help create it too.....he wants to produce. And by sheer luck and bare faced cheek ends up as the producer for Sadie Sinclair....the biggest teen pop star around.

And like Nick.....she doesnt like to be told what to do, she thinks herself a bit of a songwriter too and is refusing to sing the songs that have been picked for her. So enter Nick with his good looks and his skills of manipulation and getting people round to his way of thinking.

He knows Sadie is attracted to him, so he plays it against her. Decides if he can be with her as her boyfriend that he can pretty much get her to do what he wants, and he'd have it made. Afterall he'd have the hot sexy famous girlfriend, he will be producing the most anticipated album around and get his future made.

What he doesnt expect though is Gia.......

Sweet assistant to Sadie. Once a teen superstar herself Gia now shuns all the limelight and just wants to work quietly for Sadie.

But Nick is hooked and he just cant seem to stay away from her......

As I said I was a bit wary of this book especially with it being told in all Nicks point of view but I really was pleasantly surprised.

It was pretty good to actually get into Nicks head, see where the nasty manipulitive thoughts stemmed from, see why he did what he did. Especially to see his real inner most feelings regarding his best friend Lila and his brother Tucker.

And I have to admit, after a while I felt myself warming to him, he really was just a sweet guy, just trying to protect himself from getting hurt. He'd done it all his life and it just carried on into adult hood.

My favourite Nick line- "Fuck. I was developing a damn conscious. How in the hell had that happened?"

With excellent supporting characters this book had me gripped.
Sadie- Gah......what a character. She was mean, nasty, and a liar......pretty much a female version of Nick. But for some reason I want to see more of her. I would love to read a book featuring her story as I think it would be brilliant.

Overall Elizabeth Lee wrote a fab book, this one and book 1 that grips you from the start and I cant wait to read more of her work!!

I was pro-Nick in Give Me Something. I know he was an A-double-snakes and made terrible decisions in Give Me Something but he charmed his way into my heart so I was excited to get his story in Taking Something. Let me just tell you, Taking Something did not pull a con on me but made me love Nick even more.

Trying to make a name for himself in the music business, Nick not only charms his way with the ladies but also with a music executive. Charming his way into producing superstar-slash- super difficult pop singer Sadie Sinclair's next album.

"As far as I could tell, you made your own luck in life-which is exactly what I was trying to do."

Nick's idea of making his own luck is conning his way into Sadie's bed so that they'll be able to produce a chart topping album and he'll be made. Sounds easy to him, even with a warning from best friend Lila, it's far from being easy. Three letters throw Nick off his con game, what are those three letters that discombobulate Nick's rise to fame, you ask?

Gia. She is his curve ball. She is Sadie's assistant. He is Sadie's producer and "boyfriend". These two have so much angst and attraction between them that you'll just want to scream at them to get their act together already. Miscommunications and their lives keep them apart but they end up finding their way to being friends.

However, Nick tangles a very complicated web that not even I, a big pro-Nick supporter, thought he would be able to untangle from. It seemed like every single thought made his web that much more tangled. I was nervous. Like really nervous that he wouldn't but he is able to untangle it, eventually and with help/advice from Tucker and Lila he's able to live his life on his term without conning.

I want to say I'm surprised to see Tucker and Lila back in his life but I'm not. They are each other's family and they've formed that familial bond. That bond that no matter how much a person screws up or how many times they are still family and you still support them. Maybe Tucker and Nick's bond isn't as strong but they both love Lila and that is enough for them.

Elizabeth Lee is a genius, that can make a reader's hated character their new book boyfriend. Nick is definitely on my book boyfriend list and pretty darn close to the top at that. Everybody needs Nick Kline in their lives. I recommend this book because it's a story that will have you laughing, crying and shocked throughout and Nick has a HEA that has you saying "aww I love that charming a-double-snakes."

Nick Dammery becomes Nick Kline – he’s turning his life around and going legit w/ a con spin on it. I so despised him in Give Me Something – who didn’t? I was pretty sure it was going to be the same way here. A leopard isn’t able to change his spots, right? But I was more than pleasantly surprised by the Nick I found.
Nick decides that going on the straight and narrow with a little conning mixed in is right up his alley. When he sees the opportunity to work for newest pop princess/wild child Sadie Sinclair he jumps at it. She’s a computer generated music phenomenon who has no talent but a huge fan following. No other producers will work with her because she’s so unmanageable but Nick thinks he can handle her. Because he’s such a charmer he puts himself in the line of fire with Sadie’s manager and says he can and will “charm” her into recording the album the way the label wants all the while he is getting his name out as an up and coming top of the music industry producer.
Easy as pie, right?
Nope – Gia is Sadie’s right hand person, assistant, former best friend, and keeper of the skeletal closet. She’s sexy, smart, and a take charge kind of gal. She can handle the notorious Sadie better than anyone else and she’s on to Nick…..she ain’t falling for his charms, in fact, she calling him on them. She may be the one glitch in his plan to become a part of the music industry because once Sadie sees there’s something going on she could end his career before it even starts. Is Gia worth the sacrifice? Would he be willing to give up his dream for just one person?
Is Nick capable of going completely legit? Can he leave all his selfishness behind to become a selfless man who looks out for someone other than himself? Elizabeth Lee gets us inside his head to see how he’s dealing with the world around him; she lets us know the “real” Nick and he doesn’t change immediately. He evolves as a person and it’s wonderful to see his progression. We get to meet some new characters in the book and we still get to visit with Tucker, his newly found brother and Lila, the little voice in his head.

Favorite Quotes:

“We are going to be great together”....she leaned into me, “musically or sexually?”

“The hots” I scoffed. “What are we, twelve? And, no. I mean, yeah she’s hot, but she wouldn’t piss on me if I was on fire.”

"I moved down just so I could move my mouth back up. I wanted to savor every minute with her. To taste every inch of her."

Taking Something is the second book in the series by Elizabeth Lee. In this story, it's from Nick's perspective and he runs the ultimate con for him- weaseling his way into the music industry and acting as a music producer for Sadie Sinclair. He is actually really good at what he does so it helps him produce music well with Sadie, who has been difficult to the label and trying to make her own songs. He starts out running the con fine, including securing Sadie as his girlfriend fairly quickly, and producing great tracks with her for the label.

Then the problem comes in- Gia, former child star who was in the same group as Sadie but chooses to stay as Sadie's assistant rather than take up the offer with the label. She piques Nick's interest and he becomes more attracted to her while trying to keep his A game up with Sadie, who gets jealous and clingy. She sees right through Nick's bs and keeps him on his toes and plagues his thoughts. She has a whole unique story all her own and it shows how crazy the music industry gets, especially working with Sadie.

Then you throw in another ingredient to a total cluster-Landry, the son of Nick's boss and major star in the music world. Because of him, Nick starts learning more about what happened to this group of childhood stars and the friendships between them.

Starting out reading this book, Nick still is a total prick and not someone you want to know. As you read the story, you get inside his head more and understand his life and story more. You hate to fight for him knowing what a total tool he can be and how he operates as a con man. But then you see him really get a run for his money and fight to keep his ruse going in order to break into the music world. Gia starts to make his plan crumble but shows that Nick can care about someone else and face love versus dream job choices.

I definitely recommend reading this series! It has con games, cut throat music industry stories and, of course, a good love story.

OUT's Review

This is story of boy loves girl, boy loses girl, boy finds another girl.

Nick Kline is a bad boy DJ ... A ladies man, so to speak. Nick is wanting to become the next big record producer. All he needs is for a bigwig to notice him, to believe in him. He finds a chance to speak with THE man (Hollace Westwood), who can supply him with this chance to make it big. Nick knows that if he can get Hollace to give him an opportunity, he'll be golden. The Gods must have been looking down on him, as he is given a chance to produce one the biggest recording artists in the industry, Sadie Sinclair. She is the epitome of fabulous. She's gorgeous, famous and loaded. He knows that he can use his persuasive, smooth moves to make her his, and he will be on top of the world. He figures being her second half will only help his career.

In comes Sadie's personal assistant, Gia Grayson. Nick sees something in her, something intriguing. Gia never seems happy though, and she always puts on a brave face in front of Sadie to help pump her up when she is in the studio. Since Nick had this feeling that there was more to Gia, he digs and finds out that she used to be an epic recording artist who had the means to be huge. Gia could have surely surpassed Sadie. Why in the world would she give all of that up?

Who does Nick end up with, if either one? Does he find out the reasons behind Gia dropping out of the recording industry? What does life have in store for these three? Does Nick find the fame that he was looking for?

Find out for yourself and pick up a copy of Taking something. This is the second book in this series, with Give Me Something (currently free on Amazon), being the first. They are definitely built to be able to read as stand alone's, as I did. I did not have the opportunity to read give Me Something, and I don't feel as if I missed anything. Please enjoy this book, it's a great read!

This review will contains spoilers for the first book in the series, Give Me Something. Of course, if you read the synopsis, you already know what happens and won't be spoiled... much. Just thought it best to give a warning. :)

I went back and forth with my feelings about Nick in Give Me Something. By the end, I liked him. He underwent a great transformation in that book and part of me was rooting for him and Lila to end up together. Of course, that didn't happen, but after reading Taking Something, I'm thrilled things played out the way they did in his relationship with Lila. If they had ended up together, I wouldn't have had the joy of experiencing Nick's full redemption and his incredible new relationship.

Now, Nick is far from perfect. He wants to stop living his life as a con artist, but at the same time, he manipulates himself into a job and a relationship with a pop star. And boy, is she a piece of work. There's no denying their chemistry, but that's about all they had going for them. The longer Nick spends with Sadie and the more he's around her fiery assistant, Gia, the more he realizes he wants more of his life. He wants the real thing and he thinks he can find it with Gia. That is, assuming Sadie doesn't ruin his career and his potential relationship with Gia.

This book left me with all the warm fuzzies. It was realistic. It had sexy, sweet and heart-wrenching moments. While I didn't bawl my eyes out, I did shed a few tears. Fans of the first book will appreciate catching up with Lila and Tucker. I think most will also like to see how much Nick changed. I know I did. He hit the swoony book boyfriend list during this book, a feat I thought nearly impossible after some of his asshole behavior in Give Me Something.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Elizabeth Lee does it again! With this follow-up to her amazing book, Give Me Something, Elizabeth once again brings us some delicious drama nobody can resist.

If you haven’t read Give Me Something, you should totally do so before picking this bad boy up. You can still enjoy it without having read the first book, but you’ll get a lot more insight about Mr. Nick Kline—our resident bad boy.

The cool thing about Taking Something is that it is completely written in the male POV, and Elizabeth knocked it out of the park! Told in Nick’s voice, you see him trying to make something of himself while juggling a career, love and family. I loved being inside Nick’s head. He was witty and charming, of course some parts were hilarious just because he’s a guy. I think his POV was totally believable, I thought it stayed true to what a guy would really think during some trivial situations.

Now, if you read the first book and my review of it, then you know I hard time deciding which guy Lila should end up with. This time around, there was no doubt about it. I was rooting for one girl the whole way through…and then I got frustrated. I got frustrated because I wanted Nick and his girl to interact more, I wanted to “see” them fall in love. I mean you definitely see Nick’s side of things, obviously, but I guess I just wanted more cute, “Aww” moments between them. I still bought it, don’t get me wrong.

The greatest thing about this book for me was the ending. Usually, most romance novels have the guys making the grand gesture and winning over the girl, but this time the tables were turned. And I loved that!!! It’s about time a woman won over her man after all the effort they put in!!!

Anyways, I freaking loved this book. It was awesome, Nick’s awesome, Elizabeth is awesome!! :)
