Consuming Flame" brings together everything written to date on Loki and His family by noted author and priest Galina Krasskova. It includes the texts of "Feeding the Flame," "Honoring Sigyn," and "Sigyn: Our Lady of the Staying Power" with a significant portion of new material venerating Loki, Sigyn, Angurboda, and Their Children. This omnibus edition provides the reader with the result of twenty years of engagement with this most controversial of Gods.
Galina Krasskova has been a priest of Loki and Odin for over twenty years. A Diviner and Northern Tradition shaman, she is also the author of over a dozen books on Heathenry, including several stand-alone devotions to Loki and His family. Ms. Krasskova holds a Masters Degree in Religious Studies and is currently pursuing her PhD in Classics. She may be found blogging and causing trouble at http://krasskova.weebly.com.
I'm a poet, polytheist, theologian and the majority of my writing is religious, of one flavor or another. I've written over twenty books covering a broad range of topics within contemporary Heathenry (Norse/Germanic polytheism), several devotionals (including a couple to Greco-Roman Deities), and I've edited several anthologies. I'm the managing editor of "Walking the Worlds" journal, the first peer reviewed journal focusing on issues of interest to polytheists and I maintain a blog at http://krasskova.wordpress.com. I cause a lot of trouble. LOL.
When I'm not writing (and causing trouble), I'm slogging my way through graduate school, round three. I currently hold a Masters in Religious Studies, worked for six years in a Phd program in Classics, hold a Masters in Medieval Studies, and I'm currently in my third year of PhD work in Theology.
I'm also an artist - acrylic and watercolor, some photography. Despite rumors to the contrary, I don't bite and I'm usually happy to answer any questions. ;)
This is a powerful and beautiful collection of essays, poems, prayers, rituals, and reflections about and for Loki, his wife Sigyn, and Their sons Narvi and Vali. (His other wife, Angurboda, and Their children Hel, Fenris, and Jormungandr are named with respect, but are not a focus of this volume.) I did a lot of underlining of new insights, as well as marking devotional pieces to come back to and copy into my personal prayer book.
Galina Krasskova always brings a fine balance of academic knowledge and deep personal spiritual experience to her work, and this volume is no exception. I would highly recommend it to those who wish to know Loki and his family better in a devotional context -- and to those who argue against His place among the gods who are honored.
A thoughtful and engaging exploration of bonding with easily the most controversial and infamous of Norse Gods and Giants. Krasskova describes her devotional relationship with Loki in her typically warm style, never deviating from both substance and heart. More than simply a collection of poems or prayers; Krasskova and others touch upon history and mythology, the value of UPG, offering recipies, devotional ideas, modern-day practice and more. This gives the Heathen new to Loki an excellent overview of Loki and his family as well as a tantalising nod to the practice of Rökkatru.
Although the book is not exhaustive on all of His myths and family members -His meeting with Thiazi and Skadi, relationship with Angrboða, or his bond with Sleipnir Fenrir or Jörmungandr, for example- the significance of Sigyn, Narvi and Vali, & the myth of his imprisonment; are all explored with balance and verve.
