The magazine-style layout of this book will sell it easily for casual browsing or to reluctant readers, but the text is packed with enough information for a science class or project. The stars of the book, however, are the sharp, detailed photographs that beautifully accompany the facts, although they are not always labeled as to what creature is shown. A table of contents, glossary and index will assist users in finding specific information. Quotes and information from important marine scientists are provided as well. Children in grades 3-5 will find much to be educated and entertained by in this nonfiction text.

Tons of ocean facts are crammed into these 64 pages accompanied by amazing full-color photos. Again, sorry this one isn't available as a hardcover but will find a place in a classroom library. Perfect for fact hounds with an interest in sea life or for browsing for a unit on oceans. Readable and definitely has the "wow" factor.

Thin book but an immense amount of info! Lots of new things to think about if a kid has ready lots of other ocean books, too.
