Visit Bible lands, wherever you might be—with this beautifully illustrated guide to the history, culture, geography, and key sites of scripture. This brand-new, “readable reference” transports you to the lands where Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus, and Paul lived, explaining the what, when, where, and why of their stories—and many, many more. Bible Lands identifies scores key locales, categorized by biblical era—from the time of Abraham and Sarah through the founding of Israel, from the coming of Christ to the journeys of Paul and power of Rome. Fully illustrated in color, with a helpful map section, Bible Lands is great prep for anyone planning a tour—and an equally great read for “armchair travelers” who want to better understand the Bible story.

I love Biblical archaeology so the idea of going to all of these places is pretty much a dream of mine. I must see Jerusalem at least, in my life time. But, there are some issues with some of the information - such as the author stating that the Exodus likely occurred during Merneptah's reign. I texted my pastor about this and other statements that seemed off and he agreed that he is not sure where the info is coming from, and we don't have any 'Notes' until chapter 8. That said, the photos and the history alone are worth the read, even if you too are unsure of some of the Bible-related statements made within the text.
Since I went to the Holy Land in 2017, I’ve been collecting books about Israel - from history to geography and travel guides. I feel like there’s so much to learn about the land that has occupied the majority of the Bible. “Bible Lands” by Robert Wise is one of those books for me and I really enjoyed reading it.
Robert Wise has a great writing style. I’ve always enjoyed his novels and found this non-fiction book just as easy to read and engaging as his other works. He goes over a brief history of each place and any other important information relating to it and sometimes, his personal experiences of traveling in the Middle East. I also liked that the book talked about places like Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Rome, etc. - which appear in the Bible and would also be considered a “Bible land.” I felt like I learned a lot from this book and look forward to reading more like it in the future!
