Eddie Red is faced with one of the most challenging cases he has ever handled. A Mexican vacation with his family and his best friend Jonah takes a nasty turn when his father is accused of stealing a valuable artifact. Equipped with nothing but sheer grit and his photographic memory, Eddie Red and Jonah risk their safety to find the real culprit behind the robbery in order to save his dad before its too late. The plot is fast paced, there is never a dull moment to take your eyes off the book. Along with Eddie, you would find yourself hooked to the mystery. It was all going good until the climax. I felt that the climax was a tad bit juvenile and corny. If it wasn't for that portion, I would've definitely rated it 5 stars.

¡Viva el Rojito!

After weeks of being grounded and scrubbing toilets, Eddie Red is clear about one thing: solving mysteries has brought him nothing but trouble. All he wants to do is now enjoy his family vacation in Mexico. But when the Mexican police finger Eddie's dad as the suspect in a crime, Eddie is forced to get into the undercover game once more. Filled with fascinating characters, fabulous illustrations, and (you guessed it!) art thievery, EDDIE 2 is suspenseful fun from the very first page.

If you loved MYSTERY ON MUSEUM MILE, MYSTERY IN MAYAN MEXICO is going to thrill you to the gills!

This is a great second book in the Eddie Red mystery series. The autor expertly blends ancient Coulter with classic humor in this book filed with wonders. If you were a fan of the first book than this is the book to read next.

One could read this as a free-standing book, but i'd suggest starting with the first one (Museum Mile). It gives a better introduction to the characters, and a better explanation of Eddie's photographic memory. But if you want to start here, go ahead.

This series still exemplifies the values of thinking and teamwork over brute force and antisocial behavior. Even the unfortunate vomiting episode late in the story carries a lesson about thinking before you act. Yes, there are still plenty of poor decisions, plenty of incidents of Eddie lying to his parents and disobeying police and other authority figures, the sorts of behavior a parent would rather their child not idolize. However, for the most part the adults aren't evil or incompetent, but rather busy with Adult Things or bound by Adult Responsibilities and unable to humor a kid's insight. It's certainly vastly better than many other kids' books out there, which make adults seem at best dismissive, and usually far worse.

I really enjoyed the first in this series which I've been recommending to kids who enjoy a fast paced mystery.

Eddie, his parents, and his best friend arrive in Mexico in what they think will be a normal summer vacation. But soon a valuable artifact is missing and Eddie's dad is one of the main suspects. It's up to Eddie and Jonah to solve the mystery. Even with the help of a beautiful native girl, a street gang, and an assortment of ancient gods, they find themselves in over their head. A fun adventure romp for the middle reader crowd!

bookaday #123. Action packed thrill ride for MG mystery, diverse characters, fun locale, Mayan mythology! Lots of references to Eddie's and Jonah's first adventure, not distracting, but inviting to go back and read the first book, and of course, the cliffhanger ending leads you to the next book! Lots of fun phrases, page 166: "I, for one, am not going to attempt at night. In the dark. With a cast. And a sick frijol." Viva el rojito and el frijol!

I received it in the mail today and read it...cover to cover. For it's age group or those who just like a quick read with some mystery, a little history, some fun, some laughs and just plain entertainment....it's a good read. I grew up on Nancy Drew mysteries and Eddie Red is holding his own. Thank you Marcia Wells.

The 2nd in a new mystery series for children, this episode takes place in Mexico. There is plenty of action along with a bit of geography and history as an added bonus. Elementary age children, particularly boys, will enjoy this addition to available mysteries to keep them thinking and guessing.

I started this series and reviewed the first book as a Holiday Pick in December. I was absolutely delighted by the voice of the main character, Eddie Lonnrot, and tickled pink my library had the other two in the series. He's a Black amateur sleuth with an eidetic memory (what we now call a super-recognizer), but can also sketch with precision, making him kinda like a phone taking video wherever he goes. It's what helped him solve the first case, that and being able to sift through all the information his brain's gathering to find the patterns in the people he's seen and places he's in.

In this second book in the series, Eddie's in Mexico, and the book starts by hooking the reader with the fact that he and best friend Jonah are in prison. Eddie's wearing a Darth Vader costume and he's cut up and sore all over. He calls his mom, to tell her where he is, and while she's relieved he's alive, she's not happy about him being in prison. At all. It's not an en media res beginning, rather it starts at the conclusion, the denouement. And it's a great hooking technique, especially when Eddie ends up in a Darth Vader costume. How'd that happen, right?

Then the book switches to the start of the story, which is Eddie and Jonah leaving for vacation in San Pablo del Nino, Mexico. Eddie, Jonah and family goggle at a display of Mayan artifacts, including a solid gold mask. Within hours, Eddie and Jonah have made friends with a local girl their age, whose father is a retired investigator who worked a similar treasure theft years ago. This time, when the mask disappears, suspicion falls on Eddie's father. His fingerprints are found on the glass case, and there's video of them ogling the mask in the display.

To clear his dad's name, Eddie must figure out who really stole the mask -- but once he finds it, there's an even bigger treasure at stake, one that he, Jonah and their new friend will get in a heap of trouble to protect.

Our book group, in Ms. O’Meara’s class, read Eddie Red, Mystery In Mayan Mexico. There were a few reasons we enjoyed this book.
`To begin, we thought that the illustrations were super detailed and it made us able to picture the characters better than we could in our minds.
Another thing that was cool was they used Spanish in the text to make it seem like the reader is really in Mexico. Throughout the book it was really interesting to see some foreign language in action. It gave the reader an idea of what another language sounds like and it helped us imagine another culture.
They also had a good way with words in most chapters. An example of this would be in chapter ten; “In front of us long white beaches extend long from the mainland framed by palm trees and towering hotels.” It set the scene so clearly the reader could picture it. Another detailed event was when Eddie, Jonah, Julia and most of Las Plumas were hiding under a table in a museum waiting for Ghostman to spring the trap. It is detailed because it described how the trap worked so well.

This book is pretty good but we think there was some room for improvement. One of these areas is developing characters. The author didn’t make some of these characters come to life. For example, Jonah is only explained as a weird kid who wants to solve a mystery. The only other trait the author gave him was orange, curly hair. In spite of this we thought the book overall was a great read. We give it 4 stars and recommend that you give it a try.

I would say that this book is the least interesting from the other two book. Maybe because Detective Bovano is not in this book. I love his grumpy character when it comes to Eddie.

But it's still good tho. Seperti dua buku lainnya, di buku ini, cerita dan tebakan Eddie dan Jonah tidak dipercayai para polisi. “I mean, who would trust a kid to solve a crime?” They say.

There's also a sliiiightest sign of racism. Eddie's father are framed as a thief when a mask were stolen from the museum, because he's black.

Thanks to Jonah and Eddie, also Julia, the police were able to find out who stole the mask and who framed Eddie's father. Also thanks to Jonah, I knew a few Mayan gods. 😁👍

I like this book a lot-this series is getting better. Eddie is on vacation during the summer, and his friend Jonah gets him tangled into an ancient myth about stolen gold and the boy. The entire time I kept guessing about who or what the Nino is. Then, it leaves a good cliffhanger about Lars, hinting ahead of future crimes in further books.

Eddie is a hero and Jonah is a great sidekick. Constantly impressed with Eddie’s photographic memory and Jonah’s passion for spy work. I wish the book had fewer uses of the word “über” and the way Eddie and Jonah worked out a key plot twist 3/4ths of the way through felt weak to me. Otherwise, love our hero!

While not quite as good as the first book in this series, this story is still well worth reading. I think the main characters did not develop more fully in this book making them seem repetitious rather than more interesting people.

I started reading this series as a kid but I never got around to continuing the series and I felt so much nostalgia reading this and I'm really glad that I'm finally getting to finish reading Eddie's story.

I am always up for a mystery so when I got this book I thought, why not? In this story, taking place in Mexico, Eddie and Jonah are taking vacation. But when Eddie's father is falsely accuse the accused, Eddie decides to take a break from his vacation. With the help of the local street gang, and a new friend, this book, in my opinion, would be A rating from between eight through 12.

Love Eddie as a main character, and Jonah is the perfect sidekick! Words that are potentially unfamiliar to readers are deftly explained without feeling like you are learning a new vocabulary word. The mystery of the stolen mask is exciting with plenty of twists. A great mystery series, and I look forward to reading more of Eddie Red.

This new mystery series features a young black sleuth with a photographic memory (Think "Cam Jansen" for older kids.)and his sidekick, a redheaded Jewish boy, both from NYC. While on vacation, a Mayan jade & gold mask is stolen, and Eddie's dad is framed for the theft. A good action-packed story with references to Mayan gods and archeology.

This is the second book in the Eddie Red, Undercover series, this time the mystery is in Mexico and involves street gangs, Mayan ruins, and an unsolved mystery. A combination Cam Jansen meets the Hardy Boys, this is a breezy mystery adventure that will appeal to those who enjoy more adventure than mystery.
