I'd tried to get into fishing a couple of times before, but the books and media I picked up were too overwhelming. This book allowed me to break through that. It is still a little overwhelming, but I think that's the nature of the technical beast that fishing appears to be!
I think this is a pretty good resource for beginners, though you should expect to need to put in some time to digest the material, cross-check with other sources and look up videos.
Unfortunately, the copy-editing is awful. The book is riddled with typos and editing mistakes. Sometimes, the images don't really match the text almost at all, and I'd have loved a bit more on the actual behavior of specific lures/equipment types/rigs and why they work.
Warts and all though, it was still the book that allowed me to break through into the overwhelming lingo of fishing, so I have to recommend it :) Looking forward to going back for specifics and putting it into practice in the spring!
