Hey, Let's Make a Band!: The Official 5SOS Book

Rate this book
Hi everyone,

This book is pretty much our official story so far. It really does seem only like last week we played our first gig at the Annandale Hotel in Sydney. Since then we've been given the opportunity to turn into the people and musicians we wanted to be.

The people who gave us the opportunity were the fans. So this book is like a thank-you. We want everyone to know the story of how four western Sydney teenagers picked up their instruments and dreamed of being one of the biggest bands in the world. There are also some embarrassing photos of us derping around and some facts that some of us didn't even know. So we hope you enjoy it!

Love, cal, luke, ash, and mike x

Yes, I am so far up their asses that I actually bought this, read it in one sitting, and liked it. I'll admit that I'm a little disappointed because it didn't really tell me anything new about the boys, but it was really cool to just read what they wrote and it felt like it was all really genuine. These dorks are simply brilliant, I love them so much it hurts. I'd go to the end of the world to support them, because they deserve everything they've gotten so far, and are going to get in the future. Such great, talented, funny and sweet guys. Can't wait to see them in May.

Yeah, I'm in love with these guys. :) So, the book only taught me a couple new things about the guys, but that's perfectly fine. This book is like the 5SOS Bible, or something. It's fantastic, funny, and the pictures are just hilarious. To me, you get a glimpse of the same event through each guy's perspective which I thought was pretty cool. All of it's really cool. Trust me, I love this band and if you do to then BUY THIS BOOK!!!! You won't regret it.

I know this was written years ago but I still wanted to read it. I actually found this gem at Goodwill so that was a steal! It was actually interesting to read. I didn’t know Ashton used to be a swimmer; it made me laugh because my friend’s son is on a swimming scholarship and he looks similar to Ashton. I also didn’t know that Micheal actually didn’t like SLSP at first (don’t worry Mikey I still don’t like it lol) my favorite sections was Calum’s. I like the way he written but I don’t think it’s much surprise. I liked the fact he brought up One direction and that they were cool guys since the other 3 didn’t really mention them too much (which I can see why) but it just came across like Cal was really appreciative of 1D. Anyway, even though I’m way behind in reading this, I’m really glad I did.

I felt a bit bored reading this to be honest. I used to be a huge fan of the boys, but in the last two years or so I've grown out of it a bit. I wasn't really planning on picking this book up, ever. But I saw it at a charity shop and thought it might be nice to go down memory lane. However, there was nothing new in this whatsoever. I already knew their story so there was nothing interesting about this book for me. It was a quick read, but don't think I will be re-reading it.

I also felt like I was reading the same story four times. It's all told from each boy's perspective, but as a reader this got quite repetitive.

They say we're too young now to amount to anything else
But look around
We work too damn hard for this just to give it up now
Ghaaad, I love these dorks so much! Totally totally enjoyed this book. Recommend to all 5SOS fans out there!

I felt like I got to know them better. And I love reading how they started, what they thought to each other and just how they value their fans. Hearing their stories from their own point of views was amazing.

Can't wait to see them on March!

seriously will never get enough of this band. in a weird way, that i think only select people will understand, it’s like they are some of my best friends. i don’t know how else to describe it. hearing their stories in their own words is just so…idk what’s the right word? heartwarming isn’t the right word but my heart does feel warm reading this book. live, laugh, love 5sos!!

Finally got around to reading this but didn't end up finishing it before I went to their concert, gah! Loved all the pictures and reading about them becoming a band. And they're all just so in love with each other lol it's adorable.

Some examples:
"I always used to love watching him play. He was so talented for his age." -Calum about Michael

*school event* "Luke played that night as well-he played Jason Mraz. He also had a broken wrist! He was crazy at guitar. I knew how much he practiced. He used to put up covers on YouTube. I thought he was amazing." -Calum on Luke

"It meant so much to me to be drumming in 5SOS that I rode my bike for 10km to get to Michael's house for our first practice." -Ashton

"He's cool, he's really good on the drums. We should get him in the band!" -Michael on Ashton

"He was such a good drummer, but when I met him I was actually a bit intimidated because he was so big; he was older than me and a great musician, but he was cool." -Calum on Ashton

I could go on and on and find more quotes if I wanted to. They're just cute, adorable little idiots.

If you are a fan of them and are thinking about going to see them in concert don't think just do! You NEED to have that experience in your life because they are fantastic.

This was such a great read! It made me laugh and cry (yes, I'm not going to lie - I teared up on numerous occasions because these four boys mean so much to me already). I think newer fans will enjoy this a lot more than older ones, simply because older fans probably know a lot of what is being presented. I think if I'd been there since the beginning I would give this 4 stars because it would have been cool to read about some never heard stuff before. However, as a new fan this was all pretty much brand new information for me so I loved it!!! It was great reading about their experiences recording the album, moving to London and touring with One Direction. I especially loved the part where they revealed how they felt when they got offered to tour with 1D. I thought that part was incredibly honest. Long story short, this is an incredibly biased review because I love these boys so much. They make me so so so happy and reading this story made me love them even more (and I didn't think that was possible) because I felt like I was closer to them? If you're fan (even and old one) I still recommend this!!

This book is the autobiography of Australian pop-rock band 5 Seconds of Summer. Known by many of their fans as 5SOS, the band consists of lead singer Luke Hemmings, guitarist Michael Clifford, bassist Calum Hood, and drummer Ashton Irwin. Hey, Let's Make a Band! details the four boys' experiences while touring the world and recording their debut album which was released this summer, and it also gives readers a look into their lives before they hit it big. Honestly, I found this book to be more interesting than I was expecting. While I am a fan of the band, the way this book showcased the inside lives of a constantly touring band was really cool to read about and I think anybody who likes music can appreciate that. I would highly recommend this book to fans of the band, but anyone can read it to learn more about them.

I really liked this book, i am tots biased but i love these guys and i've been supporting them for three years now and i really liked the way they put this book together - full of pictures and individual parts for each member to explain his p.o.v. and everything.
The book also made me really emo about their whole journey (from school to touring with 1D and making their way through the music industry), i can't help but feel like a proud mum even though they're all around my age...
I am so proud to be here and witness their success because if there's anyone that deserves this it's 5SOS. I can't stress enough about how much i like these kids, they're not bad people, they made mistakes that's all. y'all can fight me.
p.s. as you guys can see i can't do reviews very well, oh well....

I'm a huge 5sos fan, saying that I love them is an understatement. When I got hold of the book I read it within the first 2 days of getting it I finished it completely. It was so great and if you don't know who 5sos are or you kinda like them. Well you better pick up this book because it is basically a story about how they formed as a band. 5sos really are about the fans. They love their fans so much and that means a lot to me. And you can really see that in Ashton's part at the end. This book brought me 5000000 times closer to the band and I love them that much more now as well.

Real fans save bands,
Real bands save fans.
