Exhausted. Struggling. Surviving.

Finding the Whittier tunnel barred, separating the small city from the rest of Alaska and possibly from the undead infection, a flagging sense of hope is restored. Neil has led the dwindling band of survivors, including young Jules and Danny, through all the perils of this new world of the undead, including the relentless elements of the gathering winter season. Seeking sanctuary, Neil’s group is pursued by both the living and the dead, all yearning for their deaths. The survivors fled Anchorage and its streets teeming with flesh-eating zombies, narrowly escaping with their lives and now face dangers along Alaska’s Seward Highway which stretches southward to Seward, Alaska where it ends at the sea. Their options limited and their time running out, Neil and the others find themselves hoping against hope that Whittier has the answers. They must first find their own way into the city and then trust that the infection has not preceded them.

Resolution is the fourth and final installment in the Alaskan Undead Apocalypse series.

Sean Schubert

Sean Schubert has lived in Anchorage, Alaska since 1993. After earning his degree in English from Wabash college that year, Schubert immediately relocated to Alaska.

It's clear that he enjoys and appreciates his new home. Schubert makes Alaska itself an integral part of his unfolding series. The people of Alaska respond to hardship with equanimity.

Sean Schubert says: "Alaska poses its own set of challenges separate from the unfolding zombie plague. The cold, the wildlife, the environment, and the distance all challenge its residents; the addition of zombies to the mix just ups the ante. I try to introduce the elements without being too heavy handed about it. Alaskans typically take things as they come with regard to those environmental challenges, so the growing cold, the gathering darkness, and even zombies are, after certain adjustments, taken in stride. It’s just part of the survival mentality of the Last Frontier."

There was certainly quite a bit of 'Resolution' for the survivors in this edition of the Alaskan Undead Apocalypse. The rival group of humans met with some serious karma - and it's about time considering all the heartache they have inflicted on Neil's group. There was a great deal of exciting zombie action all throughout and I am very happy the group has added some strong new members who have been a big help in taking some of the life and death decision making and responsibility off - the emotionally and physically exhausted - Neil. This book ended with the most hope for survival the group has had since the apocalypse began. They still have their work cut out for them with the zombie numbers still expanding - and with no known solution to ending their existence on the horizon for the for the foreseeable future. On a brighter note, the group is much stronger mentally/physically, more confident in their abilities to fight, and have developed a steadfast bond in trust and love for one another. Hope book #5 becomes available on audible in the very near future because listening is a must for this series.
Kudos to narrator Daniel May for the hours of listening thrills and chills.

3.5/5, I really enjoyed this book for the most part. I liked the continued depictions of the Zombies, I liked Neil and his crew but I really didn’t care for the sections with the militia and introducing people just to be victims started to get old.

One of the things I struggle with when reading multiple books by the same author is a presumed assumption that there will be connections between releases. So I went into Resolution with the hopes that I'd be whisked right back into the Alaskan Undead story and unravel in a linear fashion.

I feared it would be a reluctant read once I realized this was a mix between the original characters a fresh set of tales of the outbreak. But after a short time, I was too engrossed in the vignettes to give it much thought. There's something intriguing in the timeline, as it jumps the track of events between initial outbreak of new characters and still gives glimpses into existing ones.

One of the more successful stories for me is the tale of a cabbie whose fare was bitten prior to hailing the cab. It's tense and fast paced and provides a great amount of depth in characterization.

Another fun perspective was that of couple that met on an online dating site.

"She could guarantee an Alaskan adventure that he wouldn't forget."

Understatement of the decade!

It took me a while to realize there was indeed a connected story to be told, and that the seemingly disjointed vignettes in the beginning were to tie into a bigger story. And after about 20%, the pieces fell into place and I got into rhythm with the story.

I enjoyed the read, but in prefer the format of the first two books. What made those such a standout read was the intimate connection Schubert forged between reader and character. The predominant connection between stories is the setting, and while definitely a cool idea to set it in Alaska, I'd have liked to see the author bring it back more to the earlier story line.

From Anchorage to Seward our intrepid group struggles to find food, shelter, and safety. They find that the tunnel leading to the small town of Whittier is barred. Their hope is ignited believing the tunnel was blocked before the infection and the town may be free of zombies. If this is the case it would be the perfect place to wait out the infection. With high hopes our group makes their way to Whittier. Expecting a continuation of the story from book three, the new characters and return to "before" threw me at first. I was wondering if we had switched books somehow. Anyway, it worked out in the end. Carter is quite the piece of work. Good series, although I could have done without the twists in book four.

This was such a fun series! I don't normally like the whole Zombie genera, but it was so fun to have it set in my own city/state. I could follow the characters from the very beginning in Anchorage all the way to the end in Whittier because I'd been to every place they went.

Very good book

This as a very well written a geographically accurate book, I would recommend it to any avid horror reader. Being from Alaska I must admit that it was extremely interesting to read about a zombie apocalypse occurring in t g e place where I was born and raised.

Research on the local area was obvious, and appreciated!

The series is a quick read and you will enjoy some fun twists along the way. And...you may also find yourself wanting to up your own disaster preparedness level ;-)

The whole series was absolutely brilliant. I really enjoyed book 4 and the introduction of new characters. Sean's writings are gritty, dark, and extremely brutal. No-one is safe from his hands.
