This was a great book for young adults! Inspirational and motivational and just all around adorable! I would highly recommend it for all young ladies out there -- we could all use a good boost of self-esteem, right?
I felt myself cheering for the main character (Jen) from start to finish, and I was impressed by what she managed to accomplish for herself.
I came across a few things in the story that I would have written differently -- but this is actually a compliment and not a complaint. This story actually made me wish that I had written it! My biggest "problem" with the story (and it's not that big of a problem, I think) was that I felt like the ending and resolution to the story was a little dragged out. It could have been sped up a bit, with more focus on the conflict and problems leading up to the solution. But that's just me.
And then my random thought for the day as I was reading this book: If gaining self-esteem is all about accepting yourself just the way you are, why was everyone so proud of Jen for changing from her shy self to a more out-going girl? What's wrong with being shy? Why can't you be shy AND have high self-esteem? Okay, I guess it only makes sense in my head... sorry about that off topic ramble in what is supposed to be a nice review.
Anyway, well done Alicia! I hope to read more from you in the future!
I liked this book. Alicia has a very endearing voice as a teen trying to do the right thing. I think young people can take a lot out of this story and I am recommending it to the young adults that I know. Keep writing Alicia!
