***This is intended to be a free sample of five chapters from the Prescribed book by D.D. Parker.***

Emma Wells thought she had it all figured out. She went into college wanting a brand new lease at life, thinking she wanted to become a doctor. Only thing is, she didn’t realize she fainted at the sight of blood.

Until now.

After banging her head on the floor, she’s taken care of by Dr. Ryan Matthews, an unfairly hot specimen of a man. Even after waking up in a cloudy, post-concussion daze, she can’t take her eyes off him and their chemistry is becoming undeniable.

Strong. Handsome. Charming.

Even that couldn’t encompass everything Ryan has to offer. Only thing is, she’s already taken by another man.

One that would never let her go.

Ever.

Will Dr. Matthews still be able to prescribe Emma just what she needs? Or will Emma’s own demons come to threaten more than just their relationship?

College just got a whole lot harder.

Oh la la a doctor hero! And forbidden romance...

BLURB:
Emma Wells thought she had it all figured out. She went into college wanting a brand new lease on life, thinking she was going to become a doctor. She had it all planned out. Well...at least until she found out she fainted at the sight of blood.

After banging her head on the floor, she’s taken care of by Dr. Ryan Matthews, an unfairly hot specimen of a man. Even after waking up in a cloudy, post-concussion daze, she can’t take her eyes off of him and their chemistry is becoming undeniable.

Strong. Handsome. Charming.

Even that couldn’t encompass everything Ryan has to offer. Only thing is, she’s already taken by another man.

One that would never let her go.

Ever.

Will Dr. Matthews still be able to prescribe Emma just what she needs or will Emma’s own demons come to threaten more than just their relationship?

College just got a whole lot harder.

Kudos to D.D. Parker for writing a satisfying-enough ending to the story, even though it seems to be a serial-type series. Although I really want to see Jason's story next, the ending doesn't leave the reader hanging off a cliff. There is resolution with the romance between Ryan and Emma.

Still, there are some problems with the plot and characters in Prescribed:

- the credibility of the heroe's behavior at the hospital when the heroine was his patient

- the heroine's willingness to jump the doc while living with her long-time boyfriend

- the heroine stringing along her mentally ill boyfriend and failing to inform him of his status as an ex-

Also there are some wrong words used (grammar, editing). Despite this, the action of the story becomes engaging, and I am interested enough in what will happen to the characters to continue reading if the price is right ($0.99 per installment). If more than that, I would not recommend.

Ugh, where to start? This book really needed an editor because of some of the sentences. Here are some examples.
1. "I left kissed his neck" 59% of the way thru. Wtf is left kissed? Did you kiss him on the left side of his neck or was 'left' put their in error?
2. "His beard grown out like a homeless man unable to shave in the gym bathroom" 63% of the way thru. Huh?
3. Same page as # 2 above "We didn't stay at the mall for much longer since Ryan's shift started shortly after." Shortly after what? Lunch? Or his shift started soon?
4. "his smile lightening up the room". 65% Do you mean lighting up the room? Because lightning and lightening are 2 very different things.
5. "..Ryan asked, pouring me a glass of water in a cup that was surprisingly curved" 84% thru. Would you care to elaborate why the glass was surprisingly curved? Or are you trying for a filler here?

Those are just the ones I started highlighting so I could keep track of this nonsense. The characters were a little silly and immature too.

Emma hits her head, gets knocked unconscious, and has to stay in the hospital for 48 hours of observation. Over hitting her head? If she had a concussion sure, I would keep her overnight for observation, but unless tests come back and she's suffering from something worse (which didn't happen) I see no reason for her to be in the hospital that long. Secondly, she has a bf. That she never called and never visited. What? And they've been in a relationship for 6 years. If I was involved with someone that long (or even less time) I would be freaking out when they didn't come home and didn't answer their phone. I would be calling the police and checking nearby hospitals to see if they were admitted. But does the bf do any of that? Nope, just yells at her (cuz he's supposed to be an abusive guy). And did Emma ever think to call her bf and let him know what happened? Of course not! Cuz she's creaming in her jeans for the dr.

And said dr comes in one night and asks her if she wants to grab something to eat....from the cafeteria. So she just throws on her sandals and walks right on down. So are you saying she was still in her regular clothes? Cuz I'm pretty sure when you get admitted to the hospital you're not able to wear your own clothes. Esp with all theses "tests" that were poking and prodding her. Just too many inconsistencies.

And Ryan...I know I was supposed to like him but I just didn't. There was too much of the insta-love thing going on. Oh, and when Emma's psycho bf goes to Ryan's apt to kill her? That scene was just stupid. I get everyone has baggage but I think it was a little too soon to come running to the rescue and be in a relationship with someone dealing with an abusive bf. And then he claims he loves Emma after he gets shot. Blech. Will not be reading any more in the series.

Needs editing for typos and malapropisms. This is a stand-alone book with no cliffhanger.

For being a little over 100 pages, this book has a lot of things going on. Unfortunately, very little of it worked for me.

The two main female characters are supposed to be attending college, one of them studying to be a doctor. It's a little hard to believe because the vocabulary doesn't fit -- she just doesn't come across as smart. It would have been a better plot point to have her majoring in anything other than a program that requires exceptional SAT scores at one of the best colleges in the US.

Additionally, for a smart girl, she makes lots of stupid decisions and seems to be unable to operate rationally without a man. When her boyfriend goes a little nuts, she turns to the next hot guy who expressed interest. Ugh. It would be more believable if she wasn't supposed to be smart or had come from a seriously dysfunctional family.

There are a couple of steamy scenes, but they actually both have too much craziness wrapped around them to be hot. . . at least for me.

If you watch a lot of Jerry Springer, this might appeal to you.

Inconsistent, lots of stuff (almost too much) packed into a novella-length, and several other issues leave this as just a "meh" read.

Those "other issues":

Emma (h). Wow, where to begin. She's very flighty and immature for a 21-year old looking at med school. Yes, 21 - do the math: 15 + 6 year relationship = 21. Which means she's a college Jr or Sr who's looking at med school but hasn't been working hard enough to realize that she doesn't do well with blood and trauma. She should have been volunteering (her friend has for several years). She should be taking upper level science courses (Zoology and A&P both have plenty of blood and gore in the labs). She should be at the point where she is taking the MCATs and polishing her resume for med school applications, not starting her resume. I was a Bio major myself and my college roommate was pre-med, so I know a lot of folk who've traveled this path. Emma just wouldn't have cut it with them, especially at a good school like UCLA. Very very flighty - like she was more excited about the idea of being a doctor than being aware of what it actually entails (did she really not know that residents and young doctors work 12 hr days and often have to nap at the hospital?)

Ryan (H). Umm... dude, she was your patient when you started hitting on her. Moving a little fast there. Also, she was a patient with a head injury having a seizure. No one looks their best then, so what the heck were you falling so hard for?

Codependency. Big dependency issues. Quite honestly, Emma needs therapy just as much as Eric does (though for obviously different issues). She states quite frankly that she has dependency issues, she and Eric were codependent, etc. Yet she's not even fully broken up with Eric before she's moving on to Ryan. "I feel so safe and protected." Because that's the way to avoid falling into another unhealthy relationship.

Insta-love/lust. They've known each other only a couple weeks, hung out maybe 3 times, and they are now professing their love and literally willing to die for each other. Too much.

Editing issues. Lots of places where a phrase or sentence looks like it wasn't deleted after the author decided to reword a paragraph. You end up reading repeated sentences or phrases that really shouldn't be there. Plus, oh-so-many word issues. Malapropisms, incorrect usage, incorrect homophones, however you want to phrase it. Things like passed vs past, or lighting vs. lightning.

FYI - if you're sensitive to domestic violence, it's a key plot point here.

On the plus side: quick read, free on kindle, closure (if not a full HEA). And the cheating... it's not nonexistent, but it's very minimal. Technically she was trying to break up with abusive bf, while she was also starting things with Ryan. So take it for what it's worth.

Bottom line: Will I read Jason's story, or any others that follow? Nope.

This book started in a promising way. I liked the idea of a doctor romance and I liked Ryan. But this was not good at all.
First of all, I hate cheating, and at the beginning it felt like she was very much cheating on her partner- whom I disliked even more.
I don’t particularly like the way she threw all rational thoughts out of the window when her ex was in the hospital, and then said that she would move in with him again so she could care for him. It is very much obvious that he is obsessed with her, so how can you trust him- even in the delicate state he was in. I get it, he needs help and such after his attempted suicide, but are you really the best choice to care for him?
I just... I felt disconnected from the story, and I felt like the characters did not have the spark that makes a relationship work.
They did joke around and kiss, but is that really enough for them to fall in love, which by the way I was sure that they would confess to each other in a few pages.
In conclusion, I disliked the book.

Not sure

I am not sure about this story. I like when authors give each character a voice. This gives only Emma's. To me she is a fruit cake, I didn't care for her character. Ryan, well lets just say his character could have been better also. Now Eric I think he was using drugs or something. Either that or he was just a psycho. Sorry.

Doctor Doctor

Nice little love story that takes place in a hospital. It also ends in a hospital ironically enough. In between you have a jealous ex-lover, who caused the story to end where it began.

4 stars!

(spoiler free review)

Summary:

Emma believes being a surgeon is the career for her, however on her first day of volunteering in the hospital she faints at the sight of blood. Enter Dr Matthews. Young, gorgeous and available. Neither Emma nor Dr Matthews can ignore the chemistry between them but any moment alone where something may happen is inconveniently interrupted.

Unlike the young doctor, Emma is not available. She is dating her teenage boyfriend, Eric, and she wonders if she is with him due to the memories of when they were younger, more so than their relationship now.

According to Eric though, Emma is his and he is willing to go to extremes to make sure Emma stays by his side.

My Thoughts:
Oh wow! I started this book when I went to bed and actually completed it about 2 hours later, once I began I couldn't put it down. This was more to do with the character of Eric that kept my interest until completion than the chemistry between Ryan (the Doc) and Emma.

It is extremely fast-paced as there are less than 100 pages, and my god there's a lot in those pages. I just really enjoyed the twist of the romance being threatened due to Eric and then the dramatic ending was just shocking.

Personally this would've gotten 5 starts if it was just longer as I think there was so much packed into the story that the suspense could've prolonged the story for nearly double the amount of pages. I understand this was a novella so it's naturally going to be short with a lot of content but I would've really liked to have more character development and just get to know a bit more about Emma etc.

Overall, I would recommend this as a great drama-filled new-adult romance and an action-packed start to this series!

So this started off very good and very interesting. The whole storyline was interesting and intriguing and catches your attention. I love the whole doctor thing. Loved how they met. Loved the whole ex and how he becomes stalkerish and wanting revenge, etc. It was a short read and it was very enjoyable and I will probably read Jason's story. There was just a few tiny things that made it a 3 for me. If some things were differen't, would of been a 4 for sure. I don't get the whole I love you thing when they haven't even went on a date. Just the food court/shirt/making out and then having sex in a closet? and they love each other? so that took away a bit. I wanted MORE relationship and build up. I wish things were dragged out a bit more with them dating, the stalker thing, etc. And I didn't like her lying to Ryan about Eric or Eric about Ryan. She should of left Eric and never went back and been honest. Then when the thing came to light it wasn't even really mentioned by Ryan he just was mad that Eric was stalking her. Rightfully so, it just didn't feel to realistic. I get this is fiction and a book, but still, things should kinda make sense how things would happen in real life. But all in all it was a very good read and I will probably read Jason's and others stories. I hope there is another with Ryan and Emma. I feel there could be more there. And felt that him being adopted was maybe a huge thing that needed to be touched on. I actually thought maybe him and Eric were going to be brothers or something since they were both adopted and then Ryan said about meeting his brother, etc. So the book was for sure intriguing. I would suggest others read it :-)

I enjoy medical romances especially when they have additional non-medical action going on outside the hospital, so I was looking forward to reading this one. I was slightly disappointed because I didn't really see or feel the romance between the hero (Dr. Ryan) and the heroine (Emma). What I mean is that in the story we see them flirt a couple of times and then one day; while she is having turmoil with her boyfriend Eric, they have sex in one of the doctor's rest quarters at the hospital. I would really like to have seen the relationship progress between these two and definitely would want to feel the chemistry.

There is a part toward the end of the story that just didn't seem realistic to me. I hate to spoil anything here, but in order to get my point across I have to tell a little of the story. There is scene where Emma's boyfriend was in the hospital (with a cast and bruises) because he tried to kill his self. Then while Emma is at Dr. Ryan's apartment talking with him and his friend Dr. Jason (who is Eric's doctor) about finding pictures at Eric's house of him stalking her; when suddenly Eric breaks in with a gun pointed at Dr. Jason accusing Emma of sleeping with him. My problem with this is how did Eric get out of the hospital, get a hold of a gun, and get to Dr. Ryan's apartment when he was just in the hospital messed up from the accident. Again this was just not realistic to me.

This book in my opinion could have had more stars if the relationship with Emma and Dr. Ryan had been fleshed out better (spending more time together as a couple along with the chemistry).

Wow!!!!
Take a Hot doctor (Ryan)
A average girl (Emma)
Abusive soon to be ex-boyfriend (Eric)
What is the diagnosis in this triangle? You would think it would be a downer but truly it isn't no pun intended.

This is my first book that I have read by D.D. Parker. I must admit I was a little hesitant going into this book at first but to my delight this author brought an amazing read to this reviewer.

The triangle that this author created was so real that if you walked into a doctor and asked would this be a normal triangle? I hope the answer would be yes cause lets face it. In everyday life we come upon things that scare us. Abusive relationships and such are in our everyday lives what this author brought to me was awareness to this issue. She also brought love at first site to two amazing characters.

We all live with secrets. Some good, some bad and some ugly. This author makes us see as we read that good things can happen to the right people if only we believe in ourselves.

So pick up this book and read what I have and at the end of the book be sure and Smile and think no matter the circumstance that love can happen if you only give it a chance.

Happy Reading

This was a very short read for me. Took me less than an hour and it's an okay read.

I was lured by the cover. I swear. It's enticing and romance readers like me are most likely to pick this up because of it.

The story is all laid out from the start. The girl has an abusive boyfriend and she couldn't get out of the relationship because she afraid that the guy will harm himself. She has so many fears for the guy and her internal monologues pretty much occupied most of this book. Her struggles are timely for women of today. Needless to say, she's the focus of this book.

It's sad to say, but the hero on the other hand, didn't have a lot of participation in this book. Maybe it's just because this book is too short. If this had a hundred more pages, I would've loved the hero. He's a really nice guy. Frankly speaking, I hated the heroine for not saying straight away that she had a boyfriend and that she was being abused etc. She didn't have the courage to be fully honest with him.

Anyway, in the end, I'd like to believe that she has learned her lesson. All in all, this was still an okay read. I'll be reading the next book too. :)

3-3.5 stars. The premise of this story was good, with Emma meeting Ryan after bumping her head while she is volunteering at the hospital because she wants to pursue medical school and Ryan is the doctor assigned to her care. The chemistry was real and Ryan was a fantastic guy, a great mix of hot and sexy while being down to earth, humble and friendly. Emma is likable, too, she has dealt with a lot in her past and is trying to pave her way in life for what is best for her, so I admired that independent streak in her. What was less believable was the relationship progression between Emma and Ryan. No doubt they were attracted to each other, but Emma held back for specific reasons, and even when she was moving forward and they did spend more time with each other, but the leap from friends with affection to something much more occurred, that seemed like a leap more so than natural progression, and not because it was moving too fast although there was that, too. The ending was left rather open, too, although I know it's a novella series, but it left some unanswered questions as to what Emma was going to do next with her life and living situation.

Emma Wells had her life all planned out. She was in medical school wanting nothing more than to become a doctor. That is until she found out she fainted at the sight of blood.

This book is well written. I loved the details. You can just feel the chemistry between Ryan and Emma coming off the pages. I loved how cute and flirty Ryan and Emma were throughout the book.

Yummy doctor, what more could a girl ask for? I love how fun Ryan is. Doing stupid things just to make Emma laugh, so cute. This book is a great, fun, quick read with a great plot twist for all characters involved. I would highly recommend The White Coat series.

This was a great book 1 for a series. First off, LOVE the whole hot doctor thing. I also loved the HOLY SMOKIN hotness that was the chemistry between these two. Everything about this book was entertaining and page turning. I pretty much read it in one sitting.
Though, this was also my ONLY problem. It was too short! A book this great could have only gotten better if it was longer. The author is an excellent story teller and really knows how to play up the scenes and the dialogue to make everything extra entertaining. I just wished for more!
These two meet and have an instant connection. They don't have a lot of time to work up that love, so it's pretty much insta-love between them.
Our heroine has an abusive boyfriend at the time she meets the Dr. hero.
The Hero's sense of humor and the dialogue between these two is hysterical.
This is a great, quick, hot read.
Pleasantly enough though, I did find out book 2 had just come out - so I devoured that little treat as well.
Totally recommend!

Wow is the first word that comes to mind after finishing this book and then amazing and then what a great read! I could go on but it would be better if you just read the book. I stumbled across this book and decided to read it and I am so very glad that I did. I felt connected to Emma right away..she knew what she wanted and it appeared she had met and was with the love of her live..or so I thought. But things change for her, she sees blood faints hits her head and meets Dr. Ryan Matthews who is handsome, hot, charming and oh yeah can't seem to take his eyes off of her. Enter Eric- Emma's boyfriend- things seem different..that is all I will say because you have to read this book. I will not reveal any secrets that will spoil the book for anyone so all I can say at this point is read Prescribed you will be very glad you did! I know I am and I have a new author to follow and read. Thank you DD Parker for a great book and new series for me to read. I look forward to more of your work.

I thought I was diving into a light, hot romantic story. It is, of course, but it also deals with abuse and how traumatic and debilitating that is when it comes from a person you used to trust and love.

Emma has to reevaluate her life goals when she faints at the sight of blood during her volunteer work. No doctor career in her future. Could there be a doctor in her life, though. Ryan Mathews tends to her concussion and a strong chemistry blooms between them. That relationship is so hot and sweet!

Very different from the one that is breaking Emma. Eric, her first love, is losing himself and turning against her in the process.

I liked this story because it's well written and funny in the lighter parts, and dramatic in the darker parts. It reflects very well how torn victims feel for their desire to soothe their abuser's pain, failing to protect themselves as they should if no personal feelings were involved.

Also, Ryan's friend, Jason, a tattooed doctor, was loyal and felt very interesting. I'd like to read his story next!

Prescribed has a really great premise - Emma finds out on her first day volunteering at a hospital that she faints at the sight of blood. Her pre-med dreams sorta get the shaft after that. While recovering from hitting her head, she meets the handsome Dr Ryan, and there is an immediate connection that was really fun to explore.

Unfortunately, for me, a large portion of this story felt like it was focused on Emma's relationship w/ Eric, her current boyfriend who is not a very nice guy. I felt myself skimming a lot of the non-Emma & Ryan (or Emma & Courtney, her bff) moments. The Eric portion of the storyline felt too ... involved? I'm not really sure. That whole plot point was good, I just didn't like how much air time it got.

Other than that, however, it was a really good story, and the actiony bits toward the end were enjoyable. Also, I liked the writing style for the most part! : )

A fast paced romance between a doctor (Ryan) and a pre-med student (Emma), that once I began I couldn't put it down. I just really enjoyed the twist the author put on this triangle of romance, being Eric (Emma's ex boyfriend from six years) an excellent source for this twists.
I really like that the author also presents how difficult is for a person to deals with an abusive relationship that morph into a codependency from both parties.

For me this would've gotten 5 starts if it was just a little longer, so you could see how characters feelings grew and not have that insta-love/lust and I would've really liked to have more character development. I think that this story have the potential to be a novel instead of a novella, but I love it anyways.

Overall, I would gladly recommend this to anyone, they will not be disappointed. Also I'm really excited for the installment on the series.

Emma wants to be a doctor but passes out at the hospital when she sees a patient bleeding. Hot Dr. Ryan Matthews is the doctor who checks her out and they have an immediate attraction to one another. Unfortunately Emma has a boyfriend, but Eric's become abusive and Emma can't seem to leave. After nearly strangling her death, she finally finds the strength to leave him and stays with her friend Courtney. But Eric won't let her leave quietly and no one is safe with him watching and wanting Emma back. Will Ryan and Emma ever have a chance?

This was a quick read. I'm fortunate to not know anything firsthand about abusive relationships so I can't pass judgment on why Emma would ever consider staying. I suppose it's easy for someone looking in from the outside to wonder why she didn't leave when the abuse first started. However I'm glad this story was able to have a happy ending.

I'm giving this 2 stars... because the plot was decent.

The beginning of the story was basically Emma's inner monologue - and I found myself getting annoyed quickly. Her abusive ex, Eric was written extremely well and he held a lot of the attention for me with this story.

I was annoyed that Emma and Ryan exchange 'I love you' by the end of the book. They've barely known each other, have hung out a few times and had quick and dirty sex in the hospital (and almost a store in the mall). I also found it slightly annoying that the end was predictable and with no cliff hanger or motion to read the other books the series.

I felt like the warnings should have been more for the abusive nature or the book and not the sexual nature.

It could have more potential if the author elaborated on Emma's "premature mid-life crisis."
