Kade Boehme is the epitome of dorkdom, only watching TV when Rachel Maddow or one of his sports teams is on. Most of his free time is spent dancing, arguing politics or with his nose in a book. He is also a hardcore Britney Spears fangirl and has an addiction to glitter.

It was after writing a short story about boys who loved each other for a less than reputable adult website that he found his true calling, and hopefully a bit more class. He hopes to write about all the romance that he personally finds himself allergic to but that others can fall in love with. He maintains that life is real and the stories should be, as well.

“Going Under” is a sweet and sexy read about second chances at life and love and tells the story of Kyle and Eddy. We meet Kyle in the first book in the series, “Keep Swimming” as Heath’s best friend.

Kyle is 28 years old man. He’s out and proud, he has his own business, he’s sexy, funny and a good friend. Kyle dated more than once someone who was in the closet. Needless to say every time he got his heart broken. He’s happy his best friend found happiness, but he’s a little envious. He’s lonely and wants more than anything what Heath has – a partner who loves him, a home, stability and children. One night in a gay sports bar he meets Eddy, a man with an imposing size and tattoos, who looks like a real badass. Eduardo ‘Eddy’ Jimenez is an ex-con. He’s half in the closet, since his family knows about his sexuality. Eddy figured out long time ago that everyone judge you for who you are. He feels guilty for who he is and all he wants is someone to care for him and to love him. He’s tired of being told he's not good enough or that he’s a piece of sh*t, he’s tired to be so lonely. Kyle and Eddy are immediately attracted to each other. Their connection is powerful from the beginning. With Kyle, Eddy feels okay for the first time in forever. He feels good with him and Kyle feels right. After some encounters and some steamy moments together, Kyle decides to give Eddy a chance, even if he knows he’s in the closet.

“His heart ached with the need to love someone, to be fucking loved. He didn’t want to be angry any more. In prison he’d known he wanted to be whole, to feel like his normal was good enough. He wanted to be with someone like Kyle and feel like it was okay and that he deserved it, even though he knew he probably didn't and never would. But Kyle, he was wonderful and he was smart and funny and he made Eddy feel.”

They start a relationship, they grew closer and they fall in love. Their happiness is threatened, when Kyle starts to blame himself for Eddy's hard life.

I enjoyed this one more than first book in the series. I found both main characters more likeable and more developed than the ones in book1. Kyle was a great character. I really loved his personality and his smart mouth. He was so great with Eddy. He does what no one did in a long time or never, he takes a chance on Eddy. He’s caring, loving and sweet. Even if he has his reasons to be pushy, he’s so patient with the other man. Eddy was like a big teddy bear. I just wanted to give him a big hug. He's hurt and lonely and I really felt for him.

"I'm in love, probably for the first time and I want to be free of the chains. I've lived under water too long. I'm tired of looking toward the light."

Kyle and Eddy were great together and perfect for each other. They found in each other what they were looking for all their lives. The steamy moments between them are sweet or passionate and I enjoyed every one of them.

At times the story felt a little too rushed, but overall I enjoyed it. I really wish it was longer.

All in all, “Going Under” was a great sweet (but not cheesy) installment, with a little angst and drama, endearing main and supportive characters and great romance.

This book-

It was so freaking good. I was seriously gushing when I finished and then I went back and reread my favorite parts. As I've always said, one thing I love about Kade Boehme's stories is that they're full of hope. No matter how hard life knocks you down, his characters have the strength to get back up. Neither of these characters had it easy and to see them get their HEA was something else. Kyle and Eddy are now my favorite Kade Boehme couple. ♥♥♥

This story was angsty, sweet, and sexy. So many moments my heart ached and that twist-

I did not see that coming!
Well played sir!

This was a home run for me and one I definitely recommend. 5 Stars!

After reading the first book, Keep Swimming, and meeting Kyle, I was really looking forward to reading his story and this one didn't disappoint.

As the story continues, Kyle is 28, has just bought into his best friend Heath's fishing charter business and now owns his own yacht, instead of just being captain of the boat for Heath.

Yes, he's still a smartass, but he's growing up and is still hoping to meet someone special vs. the long list of disappointing closet cases that have paraded through his love life.

Except who should walk into Kyle's favorite bar and capture his attention? You guessed it. Another guy that's in the closet.

Eddy is 30, big, scruffy and muscular, with lots of tattoos. Prison tattoos to be precise. But Eddy doesn't make Kyle feel unsafe, just interested, so they end up against the side of the building and get friendly.

Both Eddy and Kyle feel an attraction, but Eddy isn't out or ready to admit what he's known for years. That he's gay and that fact is never going to change.

But the hook's been set, so when Eddy runs into Kyle again, he leaves the bar with a random woman to push Kyle away, which works until his guilt gets the better of him and he finds Kyle to apologize and they're both in too deep to let go of what might be.
His heart ached with the need to love someone, to be fucking loved. He didn’t want to be angry any more. In prison he’d known he wanted to be whole, to feel like his normal was good enough. He wanted to be with someone like Kyle and feel like it was okay and that he deserved it, even though he knew he probably didn't and never would. But Kyle, he was wonderful and he was smart and funny and he made Eddy feel.
But Kyle's been burned by closet cases before, so when you add his fears of abandonment to Eddy's fears of being in a relationship with a man, they're both in for a bumpy ride.
[Kyle] was plagued by thoughts of the other closet cases he’d been involved with. All those empty promises to come out were enough to make a boy insecure as hell.
But after meeting one of Kyle's ex closet cases and seeing what that type of life can do to a person, and what it can cost them, he comes to a realization and comes clean to Kyle.
“I want to be happy. I haven’t been happy for so long. Yes, you’re a factor. I don’t want to lose you because I’m a pussy. But I also am doing this for me. I’m in love, probably for the first time, and I want to be free of the chains. I’ve lived under water too long. I’m tired of looking up toward the light.”
But they continue to work through their problems, breaking their own chains with help from the other, and become stronger and better for it.

So after one last revelation that their lives had intersected before and getting over those past hurts, we finally, thank God almighty, get our hard-won HEA.

Again, I really liked Kyle in this book as well, but where we only really got fun, smartass Kyle in book 1, we get the whole dramatic package this time, but it's a good package and the book is well worth the read.

The epilogue gives us a lot of follow-up information on Cary, Heath and Gus, so I'd have read the whole damn book just for that, but just to warn you, that chapter alone is pretty cavity-inducing. In a good way, like a two-scoop sundae with 27 cherries on top. : )

I did actually enjoy book 1 a bit more than book 2 (this one just felt shorter to me), but they're both gems and I honestly wouldn't read one without reading the other. That would be a bit like peanut butter without the jelly.

4 *Kyle-is-freaking-awesome* stars for this one.

-------------------------------------------

Note: Due to the high degree of character overlap in this book, I would not recommend reading it as a standalone read.

I have been waiting for Kyle's story. I liked Kyle in Keep Swimming (Keep Swimming Book #1) by Kade Boehme but I liked him even more in this book.

Cheerful, irreverent Kyle always picks the closeted boys. While Kyle is thrilled for his friend Heath and Heath's ready-made family, he's also a little envious, and more than a little lonely.

When Kyle meets Eddy at a bar, he figures Eddy is another closeted asshole. Eddy looks like an ex-con, what with the tats and the black wifebeaters. And Eddy IS in the closet, but he's a kind, thoughtful man with a tragic past who's made some wrong choices and lost the family lottery way back.

The connection between Kyle and Eddy was instant and powerful. The feels just leapt off the page.

The men share passion...lots and lots of steamy passion with yummy licking, kissing, and...wait, damn, I'm getting sidetracked.

Eddy bares his soul to Kyle, and Kyle listens. I loved Eddy SO DAMN MUCH. He was like an abused puppy trying to trust again.

There was some angst due to Eddy being closeted and both Eddy and Kyle's past actions, but it was resolved fairly quickly.

If I have any complaints about this book, it's that I blinked, and it was over. I wanted more scenes between Eddy and Kyle, and a longer, more satisfying resolution to Kyle's "confession." This book was short, but I liked it so much, I didn't want it to end.

But the last chapter made me want to eat (strawberry!) ice cream and skip in the sand. We get sweet closure for Heath and Cary, and a swoon-worthy HEA for Kyle and Eddy.

Delicious!

I knew it. I am SO glad that I locked myself in my room to read this in private with no interruptions. But, guess what? At 74% I am in the ugly cry stage wiping my eyes when the door busted open to my sanctuary. My husband just looks at me, shakes his head, gave me this knowing smirk and continues to grab a new shirt to put on and then left me alone to my tears. You see, that's what I have to do when I read something by Kade Boehme. I know I am going to cry. I know I am going to FEEL. I know I am going to love every second of it. Going Under was no different.

Holy Sheep! Eddy killed me. My heart broke for him. I wanted to wrap him up in a blanket and tell him everything would be okay. I don't even care if he wears socks with sandals ;) I hate everything he had to go through. He was so kind, but with a messed up past. He knows he did things he's not proud of, but did what he thought he had to do.

Then here comes smart ass Kyle and his lame pickup lines. This guy man. Always choosing closeted guys. It broke my heart. Maybe because I don't understand being in a closet? I can understand being in one professionally, because it's really nobody's business there, but off the clock? I can't understand hiding who you are. I can't understand denying yourself happiness. I can't understand living a lie. I can't understand not being yourself. Like Janis Joplin said "don't compromise yourself, you are all you've got". I wanted to tell Kyle not to settle, but at the same time I was telling him not to give up on Eddy. If Eddy wasn't even trying then I wouldn't have liked this half as much and I would have said Kyle deserved better.

"I'm in love, probably for the first time and I want to be free of the chains. I've lived under water too long. I'm tired of looking toward the light." ~Eddy

This is another one that just didn't do it for me. I didn't buy the insta-attraction between Kyle and Eddy and I was really looking for a closure for the characters from the first book, Heath and Cary and Gus, so I wasn't all psyched-up for Kyle's story. We did get closure and a HEA for those three boys, and of course a HEA for Eddy and Kyle, but this just wasn't for me.

Sorry, cannot recommend.

4 Past and Present Collide Into Love Stars

" I know it's a lot to ask. I'm an ex-con who lives in a shit apartment and has no money. Ever. But.....could you not give up on me?"

These two men were on fire!!! I seriously loved Kyle and Eddy!!

Kyle meets Eddy in a bar one night. Using his smooth or not so smooth pick up lines Eddy and him go back to Kyle's for a little more fun. Both feeling the attraction they have for each other is strong but Eddy can't quite accept those feelings.

Eddy was never accepted as being a gay man by his family and friends. He was brutally attacked several times, including a severe beating he took from his own father. These attacks left Eddy feeling ashamed for being gay. He tried to cover his attraction for men by trying to be with women, but that was a disaster all in itself. After the pain his father caused, Eddy got himself into some trouble sticking up for another man who was being bashed for being gay and Eddy spent time in prison for that defending.

As Eddy and Kyle embark on their relationship, they both fight Eddy's demons. Kyle accepts Eddy's "in the closet" attitude as much as he possibly can but when the past collides with the present, Kyle realizes he was to blame for some of Eddy's hurt long ago.

It was pretty good, although I still like the first book a little better. The love declarations came a bit early, but the MCs are extremely likeable. Overall a nice read, very sweet and hopeful, with the right kind of relationship angst.

I hope there will be a third book in the series someday.

This is my most favorite Kade Boehme’s book that I've read so far. The first book in the series was beautiful and I loved the trio of Cary, Heath and their baby Gus but Kyle and Eddy just totally had my runaway heart from the moment they met at that sport-gay bar and boom – it was all rainbows and butterflies for me – I couldn’t even stop smiling – saved for the tiniest twist at the latter part cleverly woven into the story and everything’s great! Congratulations Kade!!!

4,5 stars.

Going Under was romantic, sexy, hot as hell, and I loved the angst and the heartbreak. It’s always awesome when authors don’t go too easy on their characters before they get their well deserved HEA and this story just exceeded all my expectations.

I loved Kyle in the first book and couldn’t wait to read his own story. Eddy… wow… Eddy is a very special guy, I couldn’t help it, he just sneaked into my heart. :)

It’s not absolutely necessary to know the first book of the series, Going Under can be read as a stand alone. But who wants that anyway? :) Go and read the whole Keep Swimming series!

While I did like this story, ok, I just wasn't feeling the connection between the MC's. I'm not sure why, but it just wasn't there for me. I am glad that Kyle got his HEA, though, and I am hopeful that the next book (which I am hoping is about Kent and Phil) will catch me more.

2.5 to almost a 3 point rating

"Quequito?" What the hell is a "quequito?" I'm still baffled about this Spanish expression, endearment or whatever. Is it a nickname? Color me clueless. And I'd like to know because since Spanish is my 1st language, if there's a new expression out there, I want to learn it.

I liked Kyle very much in the previous story. I don't feel this story made justice to him at all. I felt that this story focused on why Eddie was such a traumatized closet case that it affected a believable romance. Pity. I just couldn't get into it or believe in them as a couple -even though I was rooting for them, but after presenting a fucked-up Eddie, his pain, his isolation, his panic attacks and his cold and hot attitude, I needed more (possibly a longer book) to make this story believable. I'm also not fond of coincidences that fuel a conflict which is exactly what happened here. And then we got a quick happily ever after. It didn't work for me -not at all...

Note, this is the second book in a series that should be read in order.

Kyle Bevins longs to have something more, someone more actually, in his lonely life. On the surface he has it all. Openly gay and unapologetic about it, a successful business owner, gorgeous, fun loving and outgoing. But a string of bad relationships and hopeful hook-ups that turned into one night stands have left him wrung out. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise to him when his latest attraction turns out to be less than prince charming. But it still stings.

Eddy Jiminez is just as shocked as the sexy blonde at the bar when his mouth agrees to follow him home. Eddy has long since tried to bury his homosexuality behind meaningless sex with women and a flare for bullying when he was younger. His temper is almost as large as he is, and his fuse is very short. But there is something in the eyes and the smile of the stranger he finds himself pushing up against the wall in a dark corner outside the bar.

They both have valid reasons to push each other away, but the reasons to pull close and hold on tight are more appealing. There is an odd sense of familiarity Kyle has with Eddy, an insane attraction and a need to touch him and make it all okay. Eddy is frazzled from issues in his past included violence and abuse, but he has this ability to lose himself in Kyle, and it both exhilarates and scares the living daylights out of him. Gradually they grow closer, learn to trust each other, start to share more and fall in love. In the end it’s a secret that Kyle holds that threatens to tear them apart, not Eddy.

This is one of Boehme’s best stories yet. He always keeps his stories young and fresh, and even when the subject matter is intense, there is love and understanding underneath that give them an extra edge you can’t help but be drawn to. This story however, bobs and weaves its way through the lives of these two men, tying them together further back than they even realize. This story really took some forethought and planning to come together the way it did in the end. The immediate and intense attraction that Kyle and Eddy shared translated into some amazing sex as well, but there was sensuality and tenderness there from the start.

I definitely recommend this story, just be sure you read Keep Swimming first. I’m anxious and excited to see what book 3 in this series brings as there was a nice little set up for Phil and Kent to get their own story. Of course, the barber shop owner and his parole officer husband could get a book as well. Lots of options here!

I am a reader who loves serial books. I love to see the continuation of characters even as I'm introduced to new characters. Although I love serial books, I am also very leery when I purchase a subsequent book in a series. Often times, the second, third, or fourth book is never as good as the first book. I can honestly say that as much as I loved the first book in this series, Keep Swimming, Going Under was even better.

Kyle is the funny man from Keep Swimming who has the smart mouth and outrageous antics to play off of his very straight-man friend Heath. Well, in book two, Kyle continues to be a bundle of laughter, but we get to see that sometimes people laugh to keep from crying. Kyle wants what Heath and Cary have built for themselves. He doesn't begrudge his friend and the new family he's built, but he wants one of his own.

Kyle often gets his heart broken attempting to create a lasting love for himself by dating men who are too far in the closet to ever see the light of day. When he begins dating Eddy, wouldn't it just figure that Eddy is buried deep inside of his very own hiding space.

Eddy has suffered an abusive past that has only taught him that being gay is a bad thing, and he is a bad person because he can't control it. He's made bad choices and lost his freedom and even part of his sight as a result of those choices. Free for the first time in years, meeting Kyle seems like his new start to a new life. If only he could just step out of the confines of his closet and realize being inside of it is stifling him instead of protecting him.

As I said before, Kyle is the funny man. He keeps you laughing throughout the entire book, except for when he's showing you the real him deep down that's longing for that forever kind of love. Eddy just makes you want to hug him, literally. He's a big, burly beast of a man who's nothing but pudding on the inside. You honestly can't help but to love him.

This book is a perfect how-to-create-the-perfect-romantic-comedy guide. Absolutely loved it!

4.5 bumped up to 5 because I can!
Kade Kade Kade...you get me every time love!

Kyle peaked my interest in Keep Swimming but not like some of the other folks. Did that mean I wasn't excited to read this one? Heck No! Gimmie Gimmie Gimmie!!

From the minute Eddy was introduced HE is who I wanted to know about. :) I felt like I needed to learn about him, take time to listen and understand him..let him feel safe so he could maybe knock down some of those walls that he built up around him.

With the amount of pages in this story I think Kade did a fantastic job giving us everything we needed to know about these guys (past & present) without shortchanging us or them.

I'm working my way thru Kades' backlist..I've slowed down just a little because I don't wanna be let with nothing to grab up while we're waiting for new stuff to drop!

I had planned to keep this book to read for the long holiday weekend, but I knew I was kidding myself. It kept calling out to me and so I succumbed and stopped reading my others. And once again, Kade Boeheme has written a fantastic, heartwarming story of love, hope and friendship. To say that I love these characters is an understatement. Kyle was such a favorite from the minute he was introduced in Keep Swimming and Eddy makes you want to give him a big hug and wrap him up every time you see him. And the peeks of Heath and Carey were wonderful! Now go one-click and buy. You won't be disappointed.

A great tale of how something you do as a kid can come back to bite you in the ass when you're an adult. Both Eddy and Kyle, our main characters, are really likable, and it was nice to see a bit more of Cary and Heath.

I did like Henry and Ricky, two older men, who provide a bit of a leg-up for Eddy.

Nicely rounding out the overall plot were the sexy times. Descriptive writing, a bit of humorous snark, and some sweet romantic moments - this book had it all.

ETA: I really liked how the author handled Eddy's fear of coming out again, considering the horrible way he was outed the first time. Since this is a major plot point, I don't want to say any more.

I've been crushing on Kyle from the moment I met him in Keep Swimming.

Kyle isn't looking for anyone but just enjoying his life...then he meets Eddy and that all changes. Eddy is trying to get his life back on track and getting involved with someone is not included in that. Things start out going good for them until part of their past comes to light...and makes Kyle wonder if he had anything to the way Eddy's life turned out.
I really enjoyed this book and am becoming to addicted to reading Kade Boehme's books.

This story and its prequel both deal with two people with baggage preventing a happy relationship. They both have work to do to get to a HEA.
The writing is adequate but not perfect. It's mindless entertainment, an enjoyable diversion.
In this sequel, we deal almost exclusively with the two main characters. It takes place in Pensacola.
I recommend this story to those who enjoy gay romance.

Wow! How Eddy still had hope after all that life has thrown at him was amazing. Everyone in his life failed him except his sister. Kyle was so very understanding and caring with him and loved everything about him from the get go. And OMG! Didn't see that coming and the way that they worked it out was awesome! Next book please.
