Lucas... what a man! A hawt, dominant, alpha male. Yes. He is my, "new at this moment", book crush!
Lucas is the oldest of the Hunter Brothers, a no-nonsense, take the world by the balls and make it submit, smart, classy... and rich, man.
Jessica is a single mom to a 5 year old son. She and her sister live, and raise, Dexter together. She finally has a great job, and things are looking up. She "moonlights" helping out her sister at Elite as a server for private parties and it's at one of these parties that she meets Lucas. Her "Thunderbolt". Her love at first site though she'll never admit that.
While I really liked Lucas' character, Jess, drove me insane. Her wanting to be open, then shutting down. Every time Lucas tried to move forward, she'd take 3 steps back, while wondering why he didn't make her more than a 3 day a weeks lay. Jess was selfish and self centered a lot of the time.
Case in point. She, of course, wants the very best for her son, and when the very best is offered for him, she complains about how it effects her. At every turn she is whining. But, all in all, that's just Jess, and Lucas is actually able to take it and turn it to his advantage most of the time. She says "no", he finds a way to show her that "yes" is the better option.
Her back and forth, fence straddling, did get a bit old. But when it was the most important, Jess did step up and was actually there for Lucas when it counted the most, which had all sorts of redeeming qualities in my book.
The sex... OMG.. there was some really hot, sexy, sex in this book!
Lucas: "...we will be exclusive, embarking on a relationship that is underpinned by emmense trust, open communication and mutual respect."
Jessica: "It was the one part of being punished that I liked; no long drawn out apologies or self recrimimnation. It was 'wham-bam-it's over now ma'am there there was a lot to be said for it."
The Dominant/submissive aspect of the book. The author nailed it in almost all areas and I was really happy about that. Lucas was a strong Dominant that took training Jessica, and being her Dom, very seriously, while he was a Dom that normally played the submissive field, he gave Jess what he knew she needed. Exclusivity. Although it took her a while to trust that he was being faithful. Lucas was written as an upstanding Dominant and Jess as a submissive that was new to the lifestyle, and both, I felt, were written by someone that did their homework. (Thank you for that, L.J. Dee!)
Best line that made me laugh: "This was the shiny little cherry on a headfuck sundae..." I am SO going to find an opportunity to use that in conversation someday!
Most irritating overuse of a word. Flash, flashes, flashing, flashed. This descriptive term was used 37 times in this book. Flash(ing) eyes, smiles, across features, momentary, into mind, numbers, of fear, of jealousy, for a totally of 37 instances. The most overused in a phrase, "flashing eyebrows", flashing his, flashing hers, flashing his thick black brows. It's a great way to describe something, but it was just way overused.
Other than that, I really did love this story, flashing eyebrows and all! Loved Lucas and Jessica's overall relationship, enjoyed Chas, Charlie, and even Lucas's conniving little PA, Melody who wanted nothing more than to be rid of Jess and could be quite a bitch in her attempt to do so. She was the one I loved to hate!
I'm really looking forward to reading Roman and Chastity's story, and I hope to see a little of Lucas, Jess and Dex sprinkled in there too!
Wow! This was so much better than I ever expected! I really wish I'd read this sooner.
This was a brilliant BDSM romance story. Both characters, were real flawed and made mistakes. I'm in love with Lucas, what he did for Jess was amazing and I wish I could have him! Jess really annoyed me a lot of the time with her irrational jealousies but apart from those times, she was a strong likeable character.
I do love the whole 'hot, strong, alpha male rescues girl from bad situation' story and this one had me hooked. The BDSM scenes in Lucas were well written and super hot yet this book had more going for it than the sex.
I really enjoyed this and I'd encourage anyone who likes BDSM romance to give it a try.
The Hunter Brothers series is a hot new read that focuses on the lives of Lucas, Roman, Charlie and Tyler and the women that rock their world. They are hot, rich and incredibly alpha, with a fierce loyalty to protect the ones they love. It is a series designed to be read in order. While they are all full length novels in their own right, some issues are resolved and some just keep running, burning under the surface and threatening to blow their world apart.
One by one, as their enemies close in, the brothers find themselves hunted, and love and lives are on the line. Life isn't straightforward when you're in love with a Hunter, but nothing worth fighting for ever was.
In the words of Roman:
'Love doesn't come in a chocolate box, wrapped in a pretty bow. It's brutal and complex because people are f*****g complex. If you want it easy, then screw around, warm your bed with a hot new piece of arse every night and move on. Otherwise, deal with it, swallow the pain and fight for it with everything you've got, because if you don't, someone else will. Trust me, if you think you hurt now, losing the woman you love will fucking destroy you.'
If you love a sexy Alfa CEO who dabbles in a bit of bdsm, has a cold and brooding temperament and is hot between the sheets this is a great book. I enjoyed the storyline (this type sometimes gets too samey) Jessica's sister Chastity added so much for me, she was such a hoot. This is part of a series about the Hunter brothers and they all sound just my kind of BB ;-) 4.5 loved it stars
This book took me much much longer to read than any other book in this genre. In fact I actually read three other books in the span of reading this one because of the laborious pace of this book.
For reviewers who are griping about the spelling - it's a British author, seriously things are just spelled differently.
However there are other major issues with this story. First the plot where plodding in some points glosses over other major points with a two sentence summation (like a few of the times they are at club and fairly significant "firsts" take place.
Secondly - adverbs are not descriptive tools and does not add subtext or character depth, not to mention the author apparently only has a handful of ways to describe situations - who knew an entire cast of characters all "laugh softly" "smile softly" or "laugh gently"
While this is a long story each plot point is wrapped up much too quickly and never discussed again. Jess' dismissal by Lucas' father, Jess' father in law suddenly appearing out of nowhere and then never comes up in discussions again after that one single scene.
Jess' simpering behavior is also similarly off putting especially since she extols the benefits of open communication in one breath and then spends chapter upon chapter whining about the question mark of their relationship it's nearly impossible to connect to her.
I almost have this book two stars but since I did go ahead and purchase Roman because I like the characters enough to be curious as to what happens next, it didn't seem fair to rate it lower than a three
Here's hoping the author moves past her obsession with adverbs in the next installment.
I read and loved 'King' by this author over a year ago so as soon I saw this book I checked the blurb and that was it, even though I was part way through another book at the time I started reading this. Jessica Evangelista is twenty-two but at times it feels more, she was pregnant at sixteen and now has five year old Dexter and with the help of her sister Chastity they've managed but it's not been easy. Things are looking up however now that Jessica's got a new job and while she's standing in for her sister one night waitressing she meets the most gorgeous and charismatic man she's ever seen and is instantly attracted to him. Lucas is the man in question, he's the oldest of the Hunter brothers and his life is never going to be the same again, he may be cool, calm and collected and always in charge but well, things change. I loved Lucas, wow ok who wouldn't and his brothers, I loved Charlie but it was Roman that intrigued me the most and I can't believe his book is next, I can't wait, and Chastity loved her as well and Dexter, it's easier just to say I loved them all and as well as making me cry this book kept me laughing as well.
Great storyline and very well written; it sucks you in right away and holds you're attention. The characters are wonderful and the way Jess and Lucas met is completely charming. The story is original and not a regurgitation of oh so many romance novels. Light BDSM without going overboard. Jess is a strong female character who had a tough life then finally caught the break she deserved. Sometimes she seemed a little too independent and closed off but she had more than herself to protect. Lucas is an awesome character. He's an Alpha male without the usual, over the top, wounded heart, non-committal storyline. He was tough in a couple of spots but he is genuine, lovable, and a knight in shining armor at heart. Oh, and did I mention hot? Yea, totally hot. He's one of those men who could practically talk you into an orgasm. I loved the switch to Lucas' point of view, though I would have preferred more. Also, the book is funny, which is an added bonus. 5+ stars. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Lucas is one hot dominant man, CEO of Hunter organisation. Jess is a lone parent of 5year old Dexter and lives with her sister Chastity who gets Jess A job as a PA but she has no experience and hasn't worked there long when the company is bought out my the Hunter Org. Hot smouldering sex, trials and tribulations. Can Jess keep Dexter a secret from Lucas.?
There were a bit of similarities to 50 shades here for me to give it 5 stars the storyline was great the sex got a bit repetitive but there were some great one liners from the sister, the other books are def on my list
I Received this arc from the c author in exchange for a review. this is not my 1st L.J.Dee and there is no real surprise but bi totally loved this book too. she is fast becoming a favorite author of mine.
Jessica Evangelista has had a tough life at just 21 she has watched her mother due of cancer, fallen pregnant by her high school boyfriend then to have him die to anf has moved to London to live with her sister Chastity and 5 tr old son Dexter to get her life in track. She has 1 goal, make sure Dexter has everything he needs for a full life and loving with worn these 2 lifely women do just that.
Jess finally had a good job as a PA for Capitol, and her life is on track until a hostile takeover shakes everything up. The new owner basically wants to sack everyone and bring in their own people to Hunter Enterprises. knowing ehe I s tge newest employee she is bound to be fired 1st. The only jighly amusing problem, her contact - she quits she hats nothing but if the company wants to fire her out well cost them $50 000.
This is not something Lucas Hunter will do and the day he calls her into the office he finds the woman that has played on his mind after having champagne spilled all over him at a party only days earlier. Jess was filling in for her sister that night and it us fair to say she is not waitressing material, clumsy to all this liquid. 1st she almost spills a tray of drinks on Charlie Hunter Lucas' younger brother the Dane night just before her unfortunate spill on poor Lucas.
Lucas refuses to fire Jessica so me makes her a secondary PA something he doesn't need using every little account of power he had to get her alone but after an uncomfortable 1st meeting together and being accused of sleeping with her other boss Jess refuses to give into Lucas.
With an opportunity to showcase her real talent, she requests the opportunity to pitch to Lucas and Charlie a plan together for an upcoming party due the company she throws herself into it. while doing this it concrete further into Lucas mind that he wants Jess and will gave her cause meets gave it no one turns down Lucas Hunter. well not untill Jessica anyway, playing hard to get and hiding her son turns everything on its head when Lucas finds them out celebrating her birthday and the mummy mummy scream brings everything to a halt!
Bring on the head clash!!!
With no other option, Lucas fires Jessica but the $50 000 payoff is not what she expects. He gives her something else that makes ger question everything that is Lucas Hunter and who he really is.
It is not easy being the plain Jane in Lucas' world of high powered people, gorgeous women all dropping to his feet, a rude obnoxious PA and of course an ex that causes trouble to no end for Jess. If she ways to play with the big boys she must put on her big girl panties and play hardball abs that is a hard long game with Lucas Hunter.
Jessica Evangelista is used to awkward moments and filling in for her sister at a party as a waitress has placed her directly in the sight of another embarrassing moment. Never in her wildest thoughts did she think the man she saw that night would be her new boss.
Everything about Lucas Hunter is commanding, on one hand Lucas was sweet and tender helping her that night but now he is rigid and curt. As Jessica tries to make head or tails about her job and the place n the company, Lucas continues to rattle her cage. What Lucas doesn't understand is that Jessica is a single mom who has put up with the disdainful looks and comments from others who thought she was trash for being a pregnant teen, she needs this job.
As Jessica gets a chance to prove herself, she finds the attraction growing and from the looks she is receiving from Lucas the attraction is mutual. Lucas is a dominant though and Jessica has no experience in his lifestyle, however he is willing to explore if Jessica will only submit.
This was really good but there was a lot of Jessica kind of lashing out, it is all I think about her not knowing what to expect and she doesn't know Lucas very well. You see the growth from the the minute Jessica meets Lucas to the woman she blossoms to become. Lucas is intense, pure alpha male. Look forward to more.
This book begins when Jess ends up bumping into a really gorgeous guy when she's filling in for her sister at a waitressing job. Her humiliation gets worse when she discovers he's actually her new boss at her other job. She can't lose this job, and he seems to not want her there. But something is keeping her from being fired, and she's unsure what.
These two have major chemistry, and when things start to get to hot, neither one are sure who is going to get burned. Especially when Jess has a few secrets of her own, and Lucas may have one too.
This book started out very interesting. I loved the business relationship, and adding the child into the mix, because that never happens in books. But then the book just went a little crazy in my opinion. It was like the heroine was really interesting, and I respected her then she just sort of went crazy around the middle of the book. That was so unexpected that I started to lose interest in it. Then it just didn't get much better after that.
So, my overall view on this one is that I liked it. I liked the story for the most part, and I liked the hero, and the child. But I was not really a fan of the heroine after she started going crazy then stopped all of a sudden. I'm not really sure I want to read more in the series either, but the next book seemed intriguing.
Wow! What a great romantic story. I was totally drawn into the lives of Jessica and Lucas. The story is well written with a smooth flow. You are down to the characters and sucked into their lives. It's an original romance with a real life strong female character in Jessica. She has had a tough life, from a young, tragic love to being a young mom with little family other than a sister she loves dearly. She is beautiful, independent and protective of her heart and her family. She is helping out her sister one night when she meets the man that will change her life. Lucas is all alpha male! The CEO of the family owned business. He's dark, mysterious, alone and breathtakingly hot! He loves his family and is protective. But he's a man with secrets, dark secrets. He doesn't do relationships. He's into a different scene - one that he will introduce the intriguing Jessica to. This story is full of twists and turns - from company takeovers, light BDSM, to secrets being revealed. This story is woven with chemistry. It's hot, sexy, sweet, and heartbreaking- all rolled up with a bundle of fun! Looking forward to following the rest of the Hunter brothers in this sizzling series!
Another well written book by L.J. Dee, 'Lucas', is a spicy start to her new 'Hunter Brother Series'. Jess is focused on doing what it takes to provide a good life for the son she had at the very young age of 16. While the plot follows a fairly common theme of a young woman falling for her alpha male boss, what isn't common is Jess' internal battle to make sure she's making the right choices for herself and her boy. She doesn't fall blindly in love with Lucas without first questioning every decision and how it will affect their lives. Lucas is struggling with the fact that he's never felt this way for a woman before and wants more from Jess than just a D/s relationship. The book does have a BDSM theme, so go in with an open mind if your preference falls more towards the "vanilla" side of things ;-)
Jessica's life was finally taking a turn for the better, she just started a new job. How was she to know that filling in for her sister one night as a waitress in her catering firm would change her life. Wearing shimmering hot pants she spills her entire tray over the hottest guy in the place. Unknown to Jessica her victim was none other than London's most eligible bachelor Lucas Hunter.
Sparks fly when Lucas Industries takes over Jessica's company and Lucas discovers that his cocktail waitress has and iron clad employment contract. The attraction is undeniable as they maneuver around each other but Lucas Hunter doesn't date... he dominates.
Can Jessica afford to let this man in her life? Can she resist in spite of the consequences?
Gripping read, a real page turner, couldn't put it down.
I liked the male character, the dynamics surrounding him. I also loved the realities of her situation opening the reader's eyes to the situation of a teenage mother grown up. I liked the fact that the book addresses a stigma most are not aware of - and that the male character is not unblemished by that brush.
There are however things I also do not like about the book. I did not particularly like her - she seems incapable of taking one step without asking someone for an opinion and guidance. This seems hardly in line with her life story and presumed character. But mostly, there are issues with the writing I do not like. I want to feel what is happening, want to be able to step into the character and be there, not just see the story unravel like a movie.
Overall a worthwhile and fun read and I will definitely go out and try another book in the series.
Lucas was a man with a secret passion.Jessica was a woman who was a young single mother who needed a job. When the two literally collided at a party by chance both their worlds were turned upside down from that moment on.But when the Hunter men tried to dismiss this new PA from the new firm they purchased, he had no idea it was her. When she continued to get the boot, she had no idea it was him that would again knock her off her axis.I loved it.It was a wonderful book. Filled with a lot of emotions and ups and downs and a lot of passion.I can't wait to see what brother is next and which girl, Chas, Scarlett or Ava.
this is my first book by this author.i it would not be by last ,,ohhh Hunter brothers that a nice fantasy lol love the flow of the book, love the characters specially the brothers that each would have their book but we get to meet them here
This is the story of Lucas and jessica is Hot,delicious and a total page tuner i couldn't stop reading until the end
Lucas is a total Alpha dominant male, that always get his way until he meets jessica. If you are looking for a set of hot brothers and some steamy crazy scenes this is the book.
I would recommend this book to my book friends that are looking for mild BDSM nothing too over the top but well done
Lucas is an ass. Literally, nothing redeeming about him. I forced myself to read 77% of this book and had to stop when he thought he could take charge and know what's best for Jessica's son. That was not acceptable. He went behind her back because he KNEW she would object to what he wanted . Also if Dex's grandfather abused his son then Jess has every right to deny him access to Dex. Abusing children is unacceptable. Oh and ! How anyone can rationalize that is obviously not a parent! Words cannot describe how angry this book made me.
Also, I wish Jessica stood up for herself; I hate doormat characters.
I love the chemistry between Lucas & Jess. A little drama and angst add some hot sex, and you have yourself a heck of a good time reading this book. I look forward to reading book 2.
DNF @ 36%. The heroine is a total twit. She proclaims her devotion to her son but he's not really in the book ... so far? I'm just unconvinced and underwhelmed. I keep putting my kindle down after intense episodes of eye-rolling. No thanks.
That was a great story. another alpha male you can sink your teeth into........believable story, great secondary characters and a little boy you just want to eat up!
I liked this book Lucas was sweet and at time intimidating. I liked jess she wasnt a doormat and at times stood up for herself over all great book cant wait for the other brothers
This was so boring. The h is so horny. When she sees him she is full on horny for him. Pages after pages she is describing how hot he is. Desperate woman. And I absolutely hate this line “my nipples sprang to attention “ Nonsense. Plus we have a horny slutty sister of the h, who is desperate and gives wrong advices to the h. Shameless.
I liked the premise of this story and really liked Lucas, Charlie and Chastity. But Jess really irritated me. She seemed so young, naive at at times a little stupid. It ruined some points to the book so I'm giving it 2.5 stars
