About the author

Keith Soares is an independent American speculative fiction author who has a potentially unhealthy obsession with Godzilla, so it’s no coincidence that kaiju have made it into some of his stories. His favorite question to ask when writing is, “How would I respond if that really happened, right now?” If he saw a raving, bloodthirsty shamble, he’d call it a zombie. If he suddenly couldn’t be hurt by fire, he’d call that superpowers. If he could harness electricity at will, he’d call that magic.

More than anything, Keith writes stories about family, whether that means the parents that gave birth to you or the friends you’ve had for years. His characters are fiercely loyal, though they often feel like they aren’t up to the job of whatever disaster they’re living through. We all feel that way, sometimes.

A slow easy enjoyable read. Glad I bought the "boxed" set and had all three books.
Not for someone who wants big attacks and gross descriptions but a very good view of an apocalypse taking place when the major character is an aging man.

The first book took me awhile to get into but in the end I liked it, so I wanted to see it through to the end. I was really depressed along with the doc, because man every time he tried to care about someone, anything...he got BURNED! The Oasis is/was a place that survivors dreamed of as the safe place with the cure, the paradise of their awful apocalypse. Rabies Leprosy = RL2013 the virus that started it all. At first it only affected humans..but as the years went on somehow it transferred to animals as well. The story follows Doc and how he meets certain people, gets destroyed, looses hope, then meets someone new, hope gets destroyed but throughout his life in the end his accomplished something important, very important (won't tell you or will ruin the story haha). Maybe poor Doc will finally find hope again, and find a oasis! I like this dark and dirty side or the apocalypse but you have to read all the books in order (3) ..and you will probably want to like I did because of the great cliff hangers! I like Keith's take on the apocalypse, Enjoy!
