Greg Mitchell is a freelance screenwriter and novelist and is the author of "The Coming Evil Trilogy", beginning with his debut novel "The Strange Man". A lifelong fan of monster movies and stories, he writes novels for movie lovers, striving to capture cinematic storytelling in a literary format.
Enemies of the Cross stands out within the spiritual thriller genre by balancing horror-driven suspense with a nuanced portrayal of internal conflict. Jeff’s descent into obsession feels tragic rather than forced—rooted in moral conviction, yet dangerously unchecked. The novel probes uncomfortable questions about guilt and vengeance: when justice becomes personal, does redemption survive?
Mitchell’s greatest strength lies in his world-building. Greensboro becomes more than a backdrop—it’s a character in its own right, enshrouded by both supernatural dread and human duplicity. The mounting dread is palpable, and when the supernatural escalation arrives, it feels both earned and overwhelming.
Still, the novel occasionally relies on genre tropes: townsfolk torn between faith and fear, prophetic warnings ignored until too late, and last-minute climaxes that risk predictability. But even those familiar beats are elevated by Mitchell’s emotional grounding and thematic focus.
In short, Enemies of the Cross is a potent fusion of horror and spiritual drama. It’s compelling for readers drawn to supernatural suspense that asks tough questions about morality, faith, and the nature of evil. For fans of the genre—or those ready to explore it—this sequel delivers a gripping, thoughtful ride into darkness. It successfully bridges the personal and the apocalyptic, setting the stage for the trilogy’s ultimate confrontation.
This is the quintessential story of good vs evil written exceedingly well. I don't read a lot of christian fiction but what I have read this one is the best. I really enjoyed this book. If it grabs you like it did me you won't be able to put it down until you've finished the last page. My only regret is that I started with the 2nd book in the trilogy. I definitely need to read book 1 to catch up on whats already happened and then read book 3 to find out what happens next in Greensboro as more people discover the truth about the Committee and the Strange man. I like the way Greg Mitchell writes and want to try some of his other stories.
I absolutely loved this book. It was a very well written novel, proving the fact that you don't have to write trashy things to have an excellent work. I want to read the first book now, as well as the second book. I love the fact that Greg Mitchell incorporated the Gospel into a modern story. This book is not a story that had a Christian backdrop where the Bible and prayer are barely mentioned; it shows the Christian struggle between good and evil, including God in every step of the way.
Truly the best Christian Horror book I have ever read! I really, really loved it, and can't wait to read the first (because I missed out), and I can't wait to read the last when it is released!
Looking for a really great series of books guaranteed to leave you wanting to sleep with the light on, but written by an extremely talented Christian author? Then look no further than The Coming Trilogy Series by Greg Mitchell.
I got hooked on this trilogy after being a huge fan of such talented writers like Ted Dekker and Stephen King. You know the kinds of books that make you jump at noises while you're reading it, but it's so great you can't put it down?
This series is about the Bogeyman or as he is also known as The Strange Man. A presence so evil that he's been staking his claim in the small town of Greensboro since its introduction. That is where the legends and myths came from surrounding late night stories around the campfire, geared to scare you. Only this time, the Bogeyman is real and you're biggest downfall is believing he doesn't exist.
Picking up where the first book left off, Enemies of the Cross continues to struggle to understand what is happening to the small town of Greensboro. Now that a horrible murder has taken place and the town believes that the killer has been caught and is now awaiting his final trial for the death penalty, Pastor Jeff Weldon believes that his brother Dras is innocent. However he feels more than responsible. When Dras came to him that fateful night telling him of the Strange Man and the evil running the town, he didn't believe him. Now Jeff feels that he has to prove his brothers innocence.
Jeff's faith in God is about to be put to the final test as the evil surrounding the town realizes that he stands in the way. They aren't about to let their plans to control the town and bring about the Dark Hour be revealed by Jeff's persistent investigation. Now more than ever, the town believes that Jeff is letting his investigation to prove his brother's innocence cloud his responsibility to run the church and will stop at nothing to have him removed.
Meanwhile the Bogeyman's plans continue to grow darker by the hour as the North Woods surrounding the lake continue to consume all life that draws near and with that, the more powerful he will become especially if he can remove God from the equation.
I received Enemies of the Cross compliments of Greg Mitchell who was kind enough to send me a complimentary copy to review. Being such a huge fan of his first novel in the series, The Strange Man, when I saw that his next one was available in print, I knew I had to read it. Once again, I was not disappointed. Since this is a trilogy, the mystery will not be solved in this one, but will come to a climax in anticipation for the final book, Dark Hour, yet to be available. I LOVED this series and have to rate it a 5 out of 5 stars. Any book that can keep me glued to the pages, and reading it with the lights on, is a best seller for the suspense thriller genre in my opinion. That is what makes an excellent book.
Greg Mitchell in his new book, “Enemies of the Cross” Book Two in The Coming Evil series published by Realms brings us back to the town of Greensboro and the Strange Man.

Get ready for excitement as Pastor Jeff Weldon sets out to prove his brothers innocence. This book takes off from where the first book left us. The Strange Man is gathering his forces and is preparing for the dark hour when he will attack. However, “Dark Hour” is the next book and the chills are more than sufficient for now. “Enemies of the Cross” is a thriller with all kinds of excitement and danger. It is also a supernatural story as the forces of evil conspire against the forces of God with humankind in the middle. Greg Mitchell knows how to weave a captivating story with wonderful characters that breathe. Reading this book will make you jump at every sound and have you flipping pages as fast as you can. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next book from Mr. Mitchell in this series.

After reading The Strange Man earlier this year, and its shocking ending, I was looking forward to Enemies of the Cross and surprised by some of the things/twists in it.
Greensboro is a creepy town and while I didn't find myself scared that often, there were a few times (especially when by a window) that I found myself somewhat creeped out (imagining if I were to all of the sudden start hearing some tapping on the glass).
While the first book in The Coming Evil trilogy dealt more with Dras Weldon, Enemies of the Cross centers more around his brother, Jeff. I found it really interesting to get to know the characters and more of what has been happening in the town.
There were a couple of things I didn't personally care for - one being how Jeff heard God talking to him in his head (page 285).
Enemies of the Cross dealt a lot with the spiritual realm (i.e. demons, angels), which I found interesting and, at times, bizarre (in a good way).
Overall, Enemies of the Cross was a good semi-suspenseful read that I liked. If you enjoy creepy and/or books dealing with demons/spiritual warfare, I think you might like this book as well... although you might want to read book one first because this book picks up right where The Strange Man left off. I'm looking forward to book three, to see how this trilogy concludes. :)

The Strange Man has taken up residence in Greensboro. The town of Greensboro has an evil secret about to be exposed in Book Two of Greg Mitchell’s “The Coming Evil Trilogy”, “Enemies of the Cross”. As his brother, Dras, is sitting on death row for a crime he didn’t commit, Jeff Weldon is searching for the truth. He just doesn’t know the truth comes with as much evil as one small town can hold.
Jeff’s crusade threatens to destroy his family and his life, but he discovers some things in this life are not as important as saving people for the next life. Just as Jeff has lost almost everything he’s worked for, he discovers true freedom. As the residents of Greensboro are forced to take sides between good and evil, Jeff realizes his true mission.
If you enjoy Christian suspense/horror stories, you will love Greg Mitchell. In Book One of the Trilogy, you got the background of the story. In Book Two, you get the theology behind the story and at times it will be difficult not to start thinking about how you would react under the circumstances. Most Christians, at one time or another particularly living in a country with religious freedom, find themselves wondering what they will do if faced with a life or death confrontation as it pertains to their belief in God. If you wait until the heat of the moment, will you make the right choice. Did the citizens of Greensboro? Read “Enemies of the Cross” and find out. The final book of the Trilogy, “Dark Hour” will be released in 2013.
Besides being hard to get into, this book wasn't bad. Showing how faith in each other and faith in God can help unite people and solve a widespread issue was a heartwarming message. I just wish that Rosalyn would have been included more, seems like everyone just forgot about her and let her fall into the hands of the Devil.
