Betting on horses? The bookies always come out on top in the long run, don't they? That widely held view is challenged by award-winning journalist Kevin Blake. "Think it isn't possible to beat the bookies without inside info? Well, it isn't. And Kevin Blake shows you how." - Graham Cunningham, Channel 4 Racing. "Kevin truly lays bare the myth that it is not possible to make a long-term profit from betting on racehorses" - Donn McClean, Sunday Times "An absolute gem for punters great and small. With simple language and elaborate detail, Kevin offers a unique insight into his studious, disciplined and ultimately successful approach to gambling. Reading it will inevitably make you a better bettor." - Richard Forristal, Irish Independent.
Imagine the difference between a lottery player and a stock trader. At a basic level, both are playing games of chance. However, there is a difference - a lottery player is trusting luck to get results, while a stock trader is analysing the companies he/she invests in to make educated betting decisions.
A similar thing is at play here - Blake is taking advantage of all the knowledge at his disposal - horse temperament, ground conditions, trainers, jockeys, prior form, race distance, etc... and is betting on select horses that offer favourable odds in the market.
The book is a fascinating insight into the world of horse racing, a blow-by-blow account of his 2013 professional betting year. Why he chose horses, what he learned from races, how he reacts to wins/losses. Very interesting.
This is a realistic and fascinating book with no outrageous claims. It is very well ridden and full of constructive information and is an outstanding read.
Interesting read , always keen to understand the discipline aspect. However i think the elements are the nuances of Irish tracks and how to bet appropriate . Quick read from a profitable bettor
