Anya has a snake of a father in deep with the mob. Calix Uncle is head of the mob. Calix has wanted Anya for years but all she does is blow him off. So a deal is struck where the debt is paid for Anya's hand in marriage. But it's not as simple as that when another deal is struck and someone is betrayed they my just lose their lives over this.

I really liked this one. The H was very possessive and extremely obsessed with the h. I loved that the H had to answer for the bad things he did. Most stories never hold the H responsible for his horrible actions. This story was super hot. I will definitely keep this author on my radar.

Short read but sooo steamy.. while some parts wasnt what i liked esp how he forced onto Anya but well he did redeemed himself in the end.. 4 stars for me!

I loved this book. The H was completely head over heels in love with the h the moment he saw her. This was one of the few books with blackmail scenario that completely worked for me because the hero was a complete caveman for the h while at the same time being tender and loving towards her. He literally couldn't function without her. The reason I took off one star was because during their breakup the H gets drunk and lets another woman go down on him. He was thinking of the h the whole time it happened and stopped the woman as soon as he remembered it wasn't the h with him but still, I would have preferred if the h didn't let him off so easily after that. It called for a good grovel scene which we don't get.

Not sure how to rate this book.
H was totally a sweetheart to h … but that was after he forced himself on her. After h was forced that morning, they made love that afternoon, then they not only made love everyday from then on, H did everything to woo her just like a normal lover. Really not know how to rate it.

February 7, 2020DNF. It’s hard for me to feel connect with the characters. Everything just going too fast and without reasonable reasons. H rape h because he is angry that h doesn’t want to have sex with him. Also, I don’t understand how h can give in to H so easily after he had physically abused her.

A Debt Paid by Joselyn Black was a fast, emotional and enjoyable read. I loved that the author wrote this story in dual POV’s, we are able to get into Anya’s and Calix’ thoughts and get a better understanding of these complex characters.
Anya is the daughter of a senator, she does not like her father and the men he does business with. She is forced to go to events with her parents in order to keep her mother safe. She is a strong woman and does not want anything to do with men in his world, and when Calix walks up to her she is none too pleased. Calix is the nephew of Vito, a very powerful mafia man.
Calix can get any woman he wants, all but Anya. He has watched Anya for years but since he was older and she was a minor, he never acted on them. Anya is a woman now, and he wants her but the sting of her rejection is not something he is used too, so he takes matters into his own hands.
“So Richards, with this turn out, it looks like you might have the money to pay back your loan.”
“There has to be something I can do.”
“I want a wife and a son. I don’t need help finding a woman, and I don’t want just anyone: I want Anya.”
“Anya, my daughter? You want her, why?”
The story is fast paced and but it’s really interesting. Anya and Calix are deep characters and have so much to offer but considering their upbringing, they do not know how to communicate. Anya is furious with her father for putting her and her mother in this situation. She will do anything to protect her mother. She reluctantly agrees to this agreement, she does not know that Calix is in love with her, so she decides to set limitations. Calix is furious when he learns of Anya’s plans when all he wants to do is make her happy and show her how much he loves her.
“You cannot deny me what’s mine. You chose to take this option. Now, we can have a good relationship, or we can have a bad one. The choice is yours. But, make no mistake in either one, I will get what’s mine.”
You will really want to hate Calix, but you can’t. This is not dark and gritty but it is not all hearts and flowers either. Calix is really a good person, he just went about things the wrong way. Now he and Anya are in a relationship that started off to pay off a debt and it wasn’t by her choice. In Anya’s mind he is the bad guy. The author gives us readers both the good and bad in their relationship. The turmoil and the struggle to try to right the wrongs. I really found the banter between these two very enjoyable. Anya is very strong willed while Calix is that of a dominant.
“You must be f****** crazy if you think I’m just going to yes sir no sir to you. You obviously don’t know me half as much as you claim to. I may have to marry you, and I may have to act as a human incubator for your spawn. But I refuse to be lorded over. Im not my mother! You don’t get to decide everything in my life.”
“Don’t you ever refer to the children we WILL have as spawn again. I waited years for you. You were too young when we first met, but I still wanted you. So, waited for you to grow old enough for me to have you. But you refused, me, so, yes, I took what I wanted any way I had to. It wasn’t just your beauty and body I wanted, no, I loved your spirit your tenacity. I saw the fierceness in you in your eyes, and I know only you would be the woman strong enough to be my wife. The one woman I not only needed but wanted.”
You can see through the story why Calix loved Anya with such intensity and why he felt he needed to react the way he did. Things of course do not go well for the couple. Anya has intense feelings for Calix so it really became a battle between her heart and her mind. You feel both of their anguish, frustration and anxiety. Through the authors writing even I was frustrated at times.
“Stop! Just stop! This is wrong. You twisted everything around until I forgot why I was here!”
“God d*** it, Anya, I love you! I loved you for years! I’m not your father, I don’t just take because I feel like it.”
Can Calix keep the woman he has loved for years, based on the debt she was made to pay? Can Anya figure out if her feelings for Calix are love or feelings of obligation? Let me say that the author added twists and turns that I did not see coming at all and it only made my need to turn the page that much greater. If you like reading books that gets your emotions running this is the book for you.

I really enjoyed this book. This is the first book I have read by this author and thought is was well written and really liked the characters.
The story centers around Anya Richards and Calix Anastas. Anya is 22 and the daughter of a Senator. The senator is very corrupt and owes a debt. Calix has had an eye for Anya since she was eighteen but knew that she was too young for him to pursue. He had to wait until she was older and no longer a teenager. At a campaign dinner for her father Calix decides to make his move but she rebuffs his attention. He decides that he will have her one way or the other and makes an offer to her father. He will pay the Senator's debt if Anya marries him. The senator agrees. After telling her that her mother would be in danger if she doesn't marry Calix she agrees, but she is not happy.
On the day of their first meeting Calix loses control and takes Anya's virginity. She is confused because even though she knows she should hate him she feels an attraction to Calix. They have a whirlwind romance until Anya realizes that she is falling in love with Calix and that scares her into running and cancelling the wedding.
Has Calix lost her forever or can he win her back? He knows his life is Anya. Anya takes some time with a friend and realizes that she needs Calix too. Do they get a happy ever after or is someone determined to take that away from them?
I definitely would recommend this book.

Wow, A Debt Paid is great book. I made the mistake of picking this book up at 9pm to read. That was a big mistake because it sucked me in and I couldn't put it down. I would suggest not starting this book at bedtime because you will loss so sleep reading. But it you do start reading it at bedtime it is well worth being tired the next day.
Anya's dad (Tomas Richard) is a dirty Senator with ties to the mob. He is in a bit of trouble and owes the mob money he can't paid. Calix has admired Anya from a far. He would love to make her his but she's not interested. Calix offers Tomas a chance to clear his debt. Calix will clear Tomas' debt if Anya marries and has babies with him. Anya doesn't like her father but agree to do it because her mother's life is threatened.
I hated the whole first sex scene. It was awful to read and I made me hate Calix a little bit. But after reading a little bit more you realize that Calix really isn't all that bad. He truly has feeling for Anya. Anya likes Calix too. At first her body likes him more than her mind. It takes her mind a little bit to catch up with what her body already knows.
There is a lot of things that go on in this book. It will keep you interested from beginning to end. A debt Paid is a definitely must one click.

I can't say enough good things about this book. I stumbled upon it by accident & when I read the blurb I new I had to read it cause I just love books about forced marriages. The plot was very original & the characters were very well developed. Calix (I love his name by the way !) is a rich business man whose Uncle is the head of the mob. Anya's Dad is a very crooked Senator who borrowed a lot of money from the mob, he is not a nice man & he treats his wife & daughter like shit. Calix has been attracted to Anya since she turned 18 & when he approaches her at a fundraiser a couple of years later she totally brushes him off. Calix doesn't like to be ignored so he uses her Dad's debt as a way to get close to her by paying off the debt & telling the Senator he either gets Anya to marry him or him & his wife will have an "accident". Anya doesn't care about her Dad & doesn't want to get married but she agrees to do it to protect her Mother. Anya is still a virgin she has been saving herself for true love & never thought she'd be forced to marry a man 17yrs older than her. I thought Calix would be a dick but he wasn't, I absolutely fell in love with him & Anya & I wish there was more to this book & their story.

My preferred genre is dark love/ dark erotica. However, occasionally a title outside my fave genre will intrigue me and I'll download a sample to determine if I will purchase.
The book cover for this story caught my eye and the title pulled me in for a deeper read. Something has to grab me in the first few pages. I can't stand a story with a slow beginning. A Debt Paid started off with a BANG and I couldn't purchase the story fast enough!
Anya is a tough, no holds barred, a nonsense woman. She knows her looks are above average, her body is banging, and her father's money make her more desirable. She soon discovers her father's money is a facade for darker things.
Calix is a super sexy, tall, rich, alpha male. He's considerably older than Anya but decides he wants her anyway. After blackmailing Anya into marrying him (cray cray blackmailing scheme!!!) things really get interesting.
Calix and Anya experience serious drama throughout their relationship. I won't ruin anything by telling the story but after reading what a specific family member did to get back at Anya, I will never complain about my family again!
Secrets, lies, betrayal, intrigue, and a dash of Italian mafia ties guarantee an awesome read! Buy the book readers! You won't regret it!

I have mixed emotions about this book. I didn't condone what happened at the meeting between Calix and Anya. Having said that, I came to enjoy the characters and their connection throughout the rest of the story. Anya is being forced to marry Calix because of debt her father owes. There is no love loss between her and her father, so Calix threatens her mothers welfare if Anya doesn't marry him. So begins the ups and downs of their story. It was a good read and I was really rooting for them by the end. There is a non-consensual scene at the beginning if that is something you feel strongly about. Other than that, I liked Calix even better than Anya at times. Also, thank you for giving us points of view from all characters. I like seeing or reading about what they are thinking and feeling.

This is one of the types of books I like....blackmailed into marriage, she hates him but starts to have feelings for him, Calix and Anya..he loved her madly and would do anything to get her. Anya does not understand her growing feelings for Calix, she should hate him. The book takes place within maybe 6 weeks so for most of that time she is confused about her feelings for him. This is a romance story with some Mob activity, blackmail, sexy times and a bastard of a father. Also it will not drag you down with angst or drama, it does have some of that but its light. :))

Sooo storyline was great! And I really liked him! Apart from the thing at the beginning (trying not to give much away)
But he soon won me over with how he felt and his actions... I didn't like that she just ran away.. And the moms?? Come on no moms get that close :/
But still I enjoyed this book.. Was expecting a little more action (not the bedroom action because that was HOT !!)
Not too sure if I want to read the next book about Maria :/ we shall see ..

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. It has an interesting set of characters and a riveting story. Though this book is not for everybody, if you are uncomfortable reading books with dubious consent I highly suggest don't read it since that is how the couple's relationship begun.
Anyways, looking forward to reading more from this author.

Not to bad
I usually prefer a little more violence, with this genre, but it was still a good read. These peoples emotions are all over the place. Then when they finally get them rained in that's when the drama begins. It has a nice and neat ending not something that is long and drawn out.

I have been in a mafia/blackmail/dark mood recently and this was overall filled the dark cravings lol.
Calix was in love with Anya and uses unconventional ways to get her. The plot was entertaining, the romance and steamy sexiness was definitely there as well.
There are scenes that may not be for everyone so hopefully that's looked into and addressed for those who do have an issue.
