That is, if Kira is willing to meet his terms...
Warning: This is a novella and contains violence and explicit sexual situations which may be objectionable to some readers. Not recommended for anyone under the age of 18.
I'm a huge fan of insta-love , grunge era flannel, my vintage Kenmore sewing machine, embroidered dishcloths and absolutely everything that has to do with 1980s pop culture (i.e. leg warmers, scrunchies, big hair, early Madonna, boom boxes, wood paneled walls, stonewash jeans, etc).
If you believe in Happily Ever After and improbable love stories, chances are I'll love you too!!
Wow Know Me is a great read. I took a star off because it wasn't long enough. It so needed to be about 100 or more pages longer. Even as short as it was, it still rocked it out.
What this book is about
Kira is home from college for a few days on a impromptu visit with her dad, Crest Tolleson the president of the Warlocks MC. On her first night home after going to bed she hears screams, gun shots, then her dad comes busting through the door bleeding, opens the window sitting her out it and tells her to run. No sooner did her dad get the window closed again did she hear the president of another MC gang coming in the room saying how he was going to hunt her down and have some fun with her and then killed her father. Kira not knowing what to do or who to turn to, runs to the only one she can think of that will be able to help her , her father's best friend Orion. Orion and her father had a bad falling out 10 years ago and she hasn't seem him since, but she knows where he is, and that he is the president of Defiant MC. When Kira shows up Orion tells her he will keep her safe if ... She will be his!
“So some things don’t change,” he said. Then he looked me over, his face growing more serious. “And some things do,”
“Orion, I love you so fucking much,” I cried and didn’t care that I’d said it because it was true. He moaned in an agonized voice. “Kira, baby. Shit, what have you done to me?”
This book was HOTT! Orion is 40 and Kira is 20 so this book has the sexy older man, daddy's best friend taboo thing going on, plus he is a badass MC president. Both Kira and Orion are very likeable characters. Kira is very innocence. Her dad kept her away from most of the MC way of life, and she doesn't date. She is to busy with school. Having not been with a man, Orion is a lot to bite off for her first time, but she can hold her own with him in the relationship. Orion was rough around the edges and nothing is innocence about him, but he has a good heart. They fall hard, and fast. They can't keep their hands off each other and have explosive chemistry. My only problem with this book is it just wasn't long enough. I needed more character development, and more relationship development. Also I would have liked to have known why her father and Orion parted ways. Over all a really good book and I am looking forward to the next one.
“But I’d take that. I’d gladly deal with the hole you’ve ripped in my heart if it meant I’d get to keep you.” He smoothed my hair, his face crumbling. “But I’d be a selfish piece of shit to hold you here. And that’s not something I can live with. Not where you’re concerned.”
I did enjoy this story and it was pretty mild for an MC book. My complaint is that the H had banged every girl the h met after showing up at the clubhouse. One OW had even miscarried his baby. That was a little too much for me. I know these bikers are whores but I have never read an MC book where every girl the h meets has been with the H. And he used some of the same moves that the OW mentioned on the h. Which is one of my problems with manwhores- there is never anything new for the H to do with the h. Also they never used protection and never discussed it. Hello STD's Safety gang safe

The Positive? It was a very quick read..
Kira (the heroine) grew up around bikers, her dad being the president of one of the clubs.. Lets forward to Kira coming home on one weekend to watch daddy dearest get killed. What does a girl do? Yes,she runs off to get help from one of daddy's old friends.
Now... Here we have Orion (the hero) who is 40 years old, two decades older than Kira and making deals with her.. The deal? She gives up her virginity and he will protect her.
The gross factor? He watched her grow up, he probably fed her the bottle when she was a baby. He taught her to ride the bike.. Creepy? Yes, that is like your uncle trying to fkk you..fingering you.. eww! I just couldn't stop thinking about the fact this man could get a hard on for a girl he practically helped raising..
So it could have been a great read, it had potential but I just couldn't get over the gross factors..
This was my first book to read by this author. It was a short read of about 80 pages. It was your standard MC suspense story of the MC president's daughter on the run from a rival club and being saved by the alpha bad ass president of another club. The catch here is that the H is the former best friend of the h's father and is twenty years her senior. When she was a child the H and the h's father had a fight and the H was banished from the club. He subsequently establishes his own club. The h's father told her, prior to his murder, that if she ever needed someone then go to the H. So when her father is killed by a rival gang she goes straight to the H. If your trigger is having the H 20 years older, him being her father's best friend at one time, him being present at her birth and changing her diapers, then this is not your book. When the h finds the H and his club, the H comes across as almost abusive. He does not physically rape her but really gives her no options other than to have sex with him and yes she is a virgin. The author then goes on to develop a relationship between the two and while it was palatable, the H was never redeemed completely to me. The author does have a promising writing style and the book was edited well. However, it takes more than 80 pages to fully flesh out the characters and a believable love story. I would have rated this book higher if the H had not been the father's best friend and changed her diapers and if the book had devoted enough time to fully develop the characters and the story.

This one was just OK for me... I just didn't really ever feel a connection between Kira and Orion. It wasn't the age difference ( 20 years) and it wasn't that she grew up thinking of him as an uncle.. I'm ok with all that. There just really wasn't a connection and on top of that, the sex scenes were really quick and there was just seemed to be something missing.
The 1st book in the Defiant Motorcycle Club series. The only one at the moment. Kira Tolleson comes home from college and the next day her father and his entire MC is murdered. Overhearing her father's murderer say he will be going after her next, she flees to Arizona to look for her father's ex friend, Orion.
Really a disappointment to me. It's a novella so it's short and almost no development but it really bugged me. The heroine is 19 and the hero is 39. That much age difference bothers me but it was also the story itself. It just didn't work for me. For the fact I was able to read it through, I do feel it deserves at least 2 stars from me.
A poorly written short story I found this story gritty and slightly absurd. The story was ok, it was about death and re-inventing the heroine but the writing was terrible. Pieces of sentences and moments all broken up to somehow say at the end that these two people loved each other. They confess that they dont know why they behave the way they do, so this reader was absolutely confused. The Hero came across as just mean. It was pretty awful.
The sequel to Know Me has just been released! It is awesome! It is a full length novel and it has all the things we love in a MC book! Bad ass character, Swoon worthy men in leather, issues to resolve, and suspense make Promise Me a great book. Check it out.
I really don't get the low reviews. I thought this book rocked! Yes, it was a little short, but I hope this is the first of many more to come. I would definitely read more from this author. Great short read and leaves you wanting more.
The writing is good and while it's a bit grittier than the other works of hers that I've read, I can't see why some gave this low marks based on its storyline. It's a MC, it's gritty and not to everyone's taste but the blurb clearly explained what it was about. I always get irritated when people are nasty in their reviews over the fact they didn't like the premise of a book. Read the description. Wa la, you know if your gonna like.....or not! Otherwise, it's like they're trying to censure an author. I get real nervous when that starts happening.
Short and disturbing. Orion was there, when Kira was born. He helped to raise her for ten years. But when Kira's father was killed and she turned to him for help he only thought Seriously? I know he is a badass biker but does he have to be a pervert? At least give them some time to get to know each other. Show, there are some feelings and not some perverted desire to retaliate against her late father by ruining his virgin daughter.
Orion and Kira. I'm surprised how much I enjoyed this story. I love a May/Dec romance but the 20 year age difference stretched even my acceptance. Still, I didn't doubt the depth of their connection by the end. I found the characters interesting and even the smallest side character had some depth. While not rubbing the readers face in the violence, there was definitely more grit than glamour. There's the typical sexist attitudes to women for the genre but none of overblown sluttiness some MC books have. It was a more intelligent read than I was expecting. Short and sweet, I kinda wished there had been a bit more but really all that needed to be said, had been said. This is my second book by this author and was a much more even read (than 'Draw'). It was pretty hard to put down! Kira is the daughter of a biker but has been raised mostly separate from it all. Still she loves her dad and goes to visit him on a spur of the moment whim. It was a fateful decision that saves her life but not her fathers. Running for her life she runs to the one man most and yet also, least likely to give her shelter. But he does... at a price. I'd also like to mention that, having lived in the SW and the Bay area myself, I could recognize what I remember in the settings of this story. It really added to it!
2.5 to 3 stars. What piqued my interest was the fact that Kira falls for her father's best friend who is the President of a different MC. Ooooh, the taboo of falling in love with an older man, a member of another MC... but there were so many unanswered questions and holes to the story. What the hell was the fallout between Orion and her father about??? I'm still dying to know what the hell happened!!!! :) And Kira - she was born and raised in the MC, severely sheltered I get it, but how could she be so seriously clueless about things? She was smart but immature. I think this book had so much potential if the characters were more developed and the ending wasn't wrapped up so neatly. I love MC books but this book fell short for me. I read that there is going to be a part 2 to Kira & Orion's story. I am curious enough to read it when it comes out. Hopefully I'll get my questions answered. :)
A novella that took me from 'this looks interesting' to 'I don't know' then quickly to 'I don't think so'. Before long, you get over the stark solution offered to Kira's call for help and it was at this point (50%?) that I fell easily into the rhythm of the book.
Kira is the daughter of the president of a MC, she had been sent away early on to give her a chance to exist outside of the biker world. It was assumed she would. One fateful visit to her father changes her world forever and forces her to lean on her own resolve to survive.
What I liked: * ballsy realistic characters * Easy story to get into but left me wanting more * awkward relationships justified (to some extent) within the story
What i struggled with: *blurred lines of an inappropriate relationship by association rather than ''blood' *Initial acceptance of said relationship
A biker book, that provided enough details to 'feel' their world, yet maintained the mystery by being kept at a distance from club 'business'? By the end of the last chapter i knew I was hooked and I wanted more of Kira's story!
Kira Tolleson may be the daughter of the Coast Devils MC but she'd been kept at a distance from the MC life, that's not to say she didn't know exactly what went on but at twelve she was shipped off to boarding school. Aged nineteen she plays a surprise visit to her fathers MC only to witness a rival MC massacre the entire club including her father, Kira knows she's next so she hot wires a car and heads to the only person who could save her, Orion, Orion is an old friend of her fathers and has known Kira since she was born. I enjoyed this book, I did but I also had a few issues the main one being not so much the age gap since I've read and enjoyed books with a similar gap I think it's more that he was like an uncle to her, watching her grow up, holding her as a baby and that along with the friendship he had with her father made this a little creepy I must admit. I agree with the reviewer who pointed out that if this had been fleshed out a bit and longer then it could have been so much better, I also had a few unanswered question after I'd finished and while I appreciate that this is the first in a series I'd have preferred less loose ends
This a first read for me by this author. While I liked her writing style she has a gritty edge to her storytelling. This was not without its problems. Due to its short length. I couldn't quite get my head around the immediate relationship between Orion and Kira. There was also the slightly "ick factor" going on. As Orion had been her father's best friend and VP of the MC her father had been president of, till they fell out when Kira was around ten. Orion had always been like an uncle figure in her life. Orion had left and started his own MC. So when a rival club murders her father and his men. Kira runs for help to the only person she could think of.
So much of this tale happens in the background. So a lot of this is tell and no show. But again that is down to this story's length, there was also quite a few loose ends left unanswered. Fleshed out and longer this would have been so much better.
Not for the faint of heart — understated and mild by MC standards. Kira spontaneously visits her father on the day she bears witnesses to the club being under attack by an outlaw club and her father’s execution.
She remembers her father’s words that should she find herself with no where to turn. She should seek out his ex-best friend, this best friend whom was stripped of his kutte and left under unexplained circumstances. As a reader, it was never explained the reason he was stripped and exiled from the club. Did her mother cause their rift?
A condition of her sanctuary is Orion wants her (he is twenty years her senior) and has been with everyone in the club including Rachel who befriends her and is now with Casper....she was pregnant with his baby a year ago.
Orion later regrets forcing her into the club life and gives her a car and money to start afresh.
Kira chooses to use the money and car to help Adele exit the life and decides to stay with him.
This was a short quick read that I liked. Kira Tolleson is the daughter of the President of Coast Devils MC when the club is attacked her father is killed she knows that she has to run because if found she knows they will kill her also. Kira flees to the Arizona desert to find the one man who might help her. Orion is the leader of the Defiant MC he has known Kira all her life he was best friends with her father but he hasn't seen her in years. When he agrees to take her in she has to play by his rules. This was a good read with dark violent scenes in it. I have read this author before this book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book.
I enjoyed the book. It was at least "filling" enough being that it is a short story. I do wish it was a full length novel instead. I see others do as well so that's not coming from a biased view of a person who just ... thrives on 400+ paged novels :0)
The only thing that I didn't particular have a taste for was the fact that the heroine wasn't even 21, but the hero was 40. *Shrugs* I mean, it really didn't detract from the story since I still enjoyed it.
M. Sheehan's 1st book did the same thing with Deuce and all. Anne McCaffrey did the same thing with the Damia as well. Still great books.
It just gets the slightly icky factor when...you know, they reference the age difference with the older one changing the younger one's diaper at one point. Or whatever. And now they have a sexual relationship. Um....hmmm, yeah. No. Don't do that please.
So.. yeah. Definitely like the writing, the story and will continue with the series even if they are all short stories (which, if you know me, you know I DESPISE short stories lol) I can't help it but pick them up anyways. *le sigh*
Not too bad, except the h and lesser extent the H annoyed the crap out of me, that can be somewhat of a problem when the book features them 99% of the time.
I had a lot of trouble thinking of the main character having the name Orion.. I can't imagine using that name in everyday life.. it doesn't sound right to me ::shrug::
Looking forward to book #2, I am willing to give the author a second chance. She can write.. just not sure if I was in the right mood to read and appreciate it.
There is just something so wrong with this whole idea. Kira experiences something so horrible, runs to the only person that could probably protect her... her father's best friend. Which, keep in mind, is obviously close to her dad's age. And when she finds him, he wants to screw her brains out. WHAT?!!! He watched her being born! He took care of her like a daughter. He was like a 2nd father to her. WTF! This is just seriously creepy & really wrong. She needs a therapist 'cause her giving in & wanting him so willingly is disturbing. Just, no no no. The only reason I even finished this was because it was short & the cover is hot.
So this was one of those that grips you from the first page. I loved that the author kept the MC life realistic in that these characters were hard no matter what. It was never light and fluffy. There was always that question on how the relationship would be. But it wasn't so hard that you questioned faithfulness. So if you love an MC that's gritty, but don't like the idea of cheating, this short tale is for you. It's quick, it's dirty and it's to the point. Oh yeah - and there's about 20 years difference....
