Industrial Network Security: Securing Critical Infrastructure Networks for Smart Grid, SCADA, and Other Industrial Control Systems

Rate this book
As the sophistication of cyber-attacks increases, understanding how to defend critical infrastructure systems―energy production, water, gas, and other vital systems―becomes more important, and heavily mandated. Industrial Network Security, Second Edition arms you with the knowledge you need to understand the vulnerabilities of these distributed supervisory and control systems. The book examines the unique protocols and applications that are the foundation of industrial control systems, and provides clear guidelines for their protection. This how-to guide gives you thorough understanding of the unique challenges facing critical infrastructures, new guidelines and security measures for critical infrastructure protection, knowledge of new and evolving security tools, and pointers on SCADA protocols and security implementation.

Eric is a true expert on Industrial Control System (ICS) networks and their security. He's taken his passion as well as experience and created an amazing book that is usable by anyone in the field. It's not often a book can use the words "SCADA" "ICS" and "security" and be seen as accurate and useful. There's just a lot of misinformation in the field but you will not find any within this book. A great read!

I have 20+ years of experience in IT security so the chapters covering the application of general security approaches to ICS could have been shorter for me, but I do like that they they don't assume that you have tons of experience. If you are junior/intermediate in IT security or OT/ICS and coming to this subject matter this is a solid book to start with. Don't be put off by it's age. This book is quite old by technical book standards: 2015. But there still isn't much out there for ICS security. Fortunately ICS security doesn't move all that fast so the concepts are still valid.
