This series investigates how and why we group animals. Each book focuses on a particular class, looking at the key characteristics that set its members apart from those of other classes. Readers will discover how classes of living things have evolved, and how species have adapted to suit their environments.
A lot of information, but organized in a very cluttered manner. Each spread has several different photos, plus up to six different text boxes (including the photo captions) that provide disjointed bits of information. I can't imagine any kid retaining much from this book - it just overwhelms. Not a fan.
These books have been the backbone of my classification of animals unit for the last two years. They're structured beautifully, beginning with the taxonomy chart, and then showing the breakdown of the various orders within each class.
The rest of the book then takes a closer look at each of the orders and what makes them different from the other animals in that class.
Plus the pictures are lovely and frequently come with captions containing fun or interesting facts.
