I had low expectations for this book because of the Gaia vibe of the cover and the late-20th century selection of expressive fonts. The illustrations look like your aunt's tattoo from Lilith Fair in 1998. Despite these warning signs this was a useful introduction to contemporary-ish tarot methodologies and practices. Giles is well informed and casts a wide net. Though it is painfully, woefully 90s, Giles does a good job breaking down different aspects of the tarot and showing how the tarot can be used in a variety of contexts. Be sure to check out the screen shot of a tarot "e-zine".
It was a pretty basic tarot book up until she started talking about aliens and pitfalls of modern medicine. That's about where I started feeling like this was not the book for me. I learned nothing new about tarot.
This was pretty good. I'd rate it more as 3 1/2. I consider Giles a pretty promising author, but haven;t read her other stuff. This was pretty basic & mostly a rehash of previous works. But it was well written & made some good points.
