Seventeen-year-old Mea is having the worst year of her life. After losing her father and brother in a tragic accident, she moves to Charleston hoping to heal. But everything changes when she meets two mysterious boys—one the son of a vampire, and the other an ancient predator watching to see if he’ll become something more: a dhampir.
Rhys has spent years living a normal life, unaware of what he truly is. But when a violent vampire attack leaves Mea on the brink of death, he saves her—a mistake that changes her destiny—by turning her into what he is: a dhampir. Half-human. Half-vampire. A born vampire slayer.
Now bound by blood and purpose, Rhys and Mea must navigate their new reality: hunted by vampires who fear them and pulled into a war they never asked for. As their powers grow, so does their connection—but survival means embracing who they are and standing together against the darkness.
Perfect for fans of Vampire Academy, Crave, and Twilight. Shadows Along the Battery is a swoony, beachside paranormal romance with supernatural danger and heartfelt coming-of-age themes.
This book unexpectedly stole my heart. This is an INCREDIBLY cute YA that I wish I had had when I was younger. While I knew this would be entertaining, I was unaware of just HOW entertained by this story I would be. And I certainly didn't know going in that a side character would inadvertently own my heart and soul. Stacy brings the characters to life in a way that has you on everyone's side except the big bad that you will LOVE to hate. And boy howdy how I hate him with everything I am. You will love the world she's created and root for her incredibly introspective and mature teens who do everything they can to understand their new world and what their place is in it. I cannot wait to continue this series. There are things I NEED to happen that I WILL be reading for. Stacy Clearman, you did a fantastic job with this debut and I cannot thank you enough for the story you have weaved into my heart. But I will never forgive you for ripping it out of my chest and showing it to me. <3
This author has great potential to write amazing stories! I felt as though I was watching a teen drama with my daughter while I was reading this!
However, I picked this book up, assuming it would be similar to twilight or TVD, but it was kind of hard to get through. Author has great potential, but this book just didn’t do it for me.
To me personally, The writing felt rushed, and there were multiple typing errors that made it hard to read at several points in the book. I am giving it 3 stars because the story wasn’t terrible in itself & I did like Rhy’s character.
I never want to give a negative review, but I like to keep my reviews honest. I don’t think I would read this book again. I do believe the author has great potential to write amazing stories, and while this story was not terrible, this story wasn’t it for me.
4.5 Stars. Thankyou to NetGalley for a copy. This book was quite gripping. I wasn’t sure what to expect when it first started but the story jumps straight in and we meet the main characters and learn a bit about them then it jumps straight into the plot from there. I also liked that we had a few side characters as well and I wouldn’t have minded learning a bit more about some of them.
I went into this *completely* blind, having not even read the synopsis. Hooked. Instantly. Loved this. Loved the characters (even the villain - I do love a good villain ;) ) It will definitely be one I come back to for a re-read or three.
-This was a very quick and easy read, great for a beginner vampire story. The universe remains the world we know, with interested creatures roaming around. As for the story itself, it was interesting. It did feel like the blurb revealed a little too much because the storyline kind of took its time to get to each point, I kept wondering when each step would happen. But as a whole, I was throughly entertained.
-The romance in this book was so sweet. I found it very cute and it was clear from the very beginning how things would end up. But then comes in the love triangle. It never truly was a triangle just a hiccup in the romance. The characters were generally really nice, even the villains, though they could have been a little more flushed out.
-I enjoyed how simple and cute this book was, the ending did take a more dramatic turn with the battling between vampires and dhampirs. But it was fine, quite predictable but I can accept it for this type of book.
I am not sure what to say about this book, perhaps it is not for me, or it came a little too late in my life.
It felt llike Twilight-New Moon and Vampire Diaries had a baby, but without the vampire lore.
The characters feel flat, even the villain, who is supposed to be this magnificent German overlord or something. He has gestures that point to a calm demeanour in a second and in the next, he is picking up Stewart by the neck.
As for the main characters... Mea's only characteristic is that she runs and wants to run. And Rhys, sweet baby, he needs to have some balls.
Another thing that bothered me was the jump between 1st pov to 3rd pov. In addition, the cover is misleading.
A refreshing twist on the classic 90s/00s vampire fiction
I really enjoyed this debut novel by Stacy Clearman. It was a refreshing twist on the classic 90s/00s vampire fiction, think Buffy, Twilight and Vampire academy but with something new. I raced through the book but still felt engaged with the characters, and found myself rooting for the underdog. There was well paced lore building that makes me excited to see what we learn in the coming sequels.
I tried soooo hard to push through this book but I could clearly tell that it was no good from the very beginning. The characters were poorly written and very basic. Their dialogue and actions lacked depth, making them unrealistic. I would never recommend this to anybody. I liked the imagery though!
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. :)
A wonderful read! Stacey does an amazing job with her writing style to show us around the beautiful town of Charleston, interrupting the calm almost country like atmosphere with mystery and the supernatural. Mea is a likeable character to which young readers would very much connect and relate to. Her story with Rhys is full of young and innocent love that is sweet and endearing. I commend Stacey for bringing back damphirs into fantasy!!! It’s been a while since I’ve read about these half human half vampire breeds. This book is recommended for young readers who have read series such as Twilight and Vampire Academy.
