Please note this is a completely revised and extended version of My Extreme Billionaire.
Who knew snowstorms could have so much heat.
Billionaire fashion designer. Infamous playboy. Extreme sports daredevil. Devlin Storm lives for the rush, pushing every limit — on the slopes, in business, and in the bedroom. And the world watches his every move.
Hotel receptionist in an exclusive Alpine resort, Darcy Wainwright is content with her safe but predictable job, tiny apartment and quiet social life.
Until she’s required to accompany Devlin on a helicopter ride over the mountains. He’s rude and arrogant and Darcy is determined to get the trip over with as quickly as possible.
Devlin doesn’t want Darcy with him any more than she wants to be there. She refuses to cater to his every whim. She doesn’t care who he is. And her nervous chatter is driving him crazy.
Then the storm hits. Their helicopter goes down in the middle of the Alps and Darcy and Devlin are forced to work past their animosity to get safely off the mountain.
But when they find shelter in a log cabin, that’s when the real storm begins.
❤️ Enemies-to-lovers ❤️ Forced Proximity ❤️ Opposites attract ❤️ Billionaire Romance ❤️ Spicy Romance ❤️ One Bed ❤️ Workplace Romance
Katie Evergreen writes swoon-worthy, steamy billionaire romance packed with adventure, banter, and heart-melting moments.
When she’s not dreaming up devastatingly handsome heroes and the fierce women who challenge them, she’s likely lost in a good book, sipping tea, or planning her next fun adventure.
I was honestly taken aback by how the story kicked off with a helicopter crash. It was so intense right from the start, and the characters had no choice but to rely on each other to survive. What I really enjoyed was how they started off as enemies but slowly became friends—and then something more. The way their relationship developed felt really natural, and you could see them learning to trust and support each other in ways they never expected.
Even though the guy was a billionaire, he wasn’t immune to having his own issues. The interesting part was that it was the girl who ended up saving him in so many ways, both physically and emotionally. It wasn’t just about her helping him through the tough situations; she also helped him confront things he hadn’t been able to face on his own. It made their connection feel real and heartfelt, and by the end, it wasn’t just a love story—it was about two people growing together and helping each other heal.
First of all, I don’t think I was adequately prepared for the ride I was about to be on when I started this book. There was never a dull moment and just when you think it’s over, another curveball is thrown your way. I couldn’t wait for my reading time because I desperately needed to know if these two made it out safely.
And it’s not just their safety that keeps you on your toes. The building feelings between our main characters will have you gripping to the edge of your seat.
Individually, the characters were both great.
Devlin is this billionaire with a bad attitude. The farther we get in the story, the more we learn about him, and his past and the more we learn about Devlin, the easier it is to love him. On top of their struggles to survive and their building connection, Devlin’s backstory was just another layer to the story that captivated me.
Paired with Darcy’s kind and caring nature…. Omg my heart.
We definitely see growth in both characters, but the change we see is Devlin is undeniable. I honestly think Darcy was the perfect person to balance Devlin out and bring him back down to earth.
One thing I want to point out about Darcy is she is not your typical, quirky MFC. She is strong and kind and incredibly perceptive. She was a breath of fresh air.
As for the spice…. I typically read books with ALL the spice but this wan’t it. There was one scene and it wasn’t overly descriptive. I personally am not mad at it. I think it was tastefully done. Honestly, the story was so compelling, the little bit of spice could have been left out and I still would have enjoyed it.
The ending was everything I could have ever wanted and then some. I wasn’t left feeling like I needed more. All of the loose ends are wrapped up perfectly and we were even given a glimpse of their future together. Definitely not where I thought they would end up so it was certainly nice to not accurately predict their ending.
Overall, I loved this book. It completely dominated my attention.
I definitely recommend this read, especially:
If you are someone who likes a little spice and a great adventure, If you are looking for a billionaire, forced proximity, enemies to lovers, with an HEA, Or if you are looking to fall in love again.
I think I say this every time... but I wasn't sure what to expect from this indie read of Suddenly Tempted by Katie Evergreen. Newsflash! I loved it!👉🏻👈🏻
By the end of this story, I was kicking my feet, absolutely elated with how everything turned out.
Evergreen does a great job of writing a strong, yet sensitive female FMC. Darcy is headstrong but has a soft side, and I loved seeing that balance play out.
Dalton, our grumpy billionaire, is the perfect contrast to her, and their dynamic kept me hooked. The characters really bring out the best and worst in each other—but in true romance fashion, the good outweighs the bad, and we get that satisfying happy ending.
One of my favorite aspects was how the characters helped each other grow. Dalton learns to thaw out his frozen heart, and Darcy learns to let go and actually live a little.
Their journey together had so many standout moments—from fiery arguments to passionate reconciliations to some genuinely tear-jerking scenes.
And the ending? Adorable. No spoilers, but let’s just say I had BIG heart eyes. We live for that epilogue! 🥹
That said, the book had a touch too much cheesiness at times. The inner monologues occasionally felt repetitive, like when the thoughts of the MMC are revealed as "...it wouldn't hurt to see the owner of the voice he'd heard... Something about it wouldn't leave his head" right after getting off the phone with her... Sir, it’s been one minute. Give it a sec!
Even with those little moments, the story was so cute overall. It took me a little time to fully get into it, but once I did, I was hooked. I stayed up well into the night just to finish—itching to get back to it, which is when you know it’s good.
I’m so happy I had the opportunity to dive into Evergreen’s work and can’t wait for the next book! If you're looking for a semi-quick read that feels like an adventurous Hallmark movie, then look no further. Pick this one up on March 18th!
Quite disappointed, I did not like this book at all. The story was very quick, it happened reall fast but I didn't see that much connection between the characters. It all felt very superficial and I found myself skipping through it.
I received a copy from NetGalley for an honest review.
Starting a romance with a helicopter crash is one way to get my attention and it was a unique way to write the forced proximity trope.
I appreciated that the billionaire MMC had real struggles, and the FMC actually helped him grow instead of just falling for his money. Their relationship felt layered, and I was rooting for them. The enemies to lovers tension was also great, and their slow burn romance had some sweet moments.
Some of the extra drama didn’t feel totally necessary but overall, it was still a fun read.
If you love forced proximity, enemies to lovers, one bed, workplace romance, emotional depth with some spice, this one’s worth reading!
Thank you Choc Lit, Katie Evergreen, and NetGalley for the ARC!
Steamy, Unpredictable Suddenly Tempted by Kate Evergreen is a well-crafted book with relatable and well-defined characters, and a nicely twisty plot where each twist is believable. Darcy Wainwright has a tiny appartment, a quiet life, and a mundane job as a hotel receptionist in a luxury Alpine ski resort. Her life is turned upside down by arrogant and reckless billionaire Devlin Storm who maneuvers her into accompanying him in his helicopter into the path of an imminent snowstorm. Of course, the helicopter crashes, they find their way to shelter in an abandoned research cabin where there are two questions. How long before this apparently mis-matched couple become physically entwined? And - Can they survive the storm long enough to be rescued? Meanwhile the relationship between Darcy and Devlin gets as nicely steamy as a book can get without being too explicit, but where will this take them after they are rescued? Despite initially thinking that both main characters were a bit stupid, Kate’s writing skills made it easy to begin to empathize with them and then to keep turning the pages in the hope that they find their “happily ever after”. The initially rather predictable plot is kept moving with lots of volatile events and the reader is kept guessing about the final outcome until a sudden surprise conclusion in the last chapter. I recommend reading this book, the characters develop substance and the story develops surprising depths worth finding.
Imagine this: you’re working at a luxury resort, the biggest storm of the season is raging outside, and your most arrogant and selfish billionaire guest suddenly decides he must fly out. Against all logic, you end up stuck with him on this reckless journey… only to find yourself stranded together in a snowy, stormy mountain. Survival means battling not just hypothermia, but also his impossible arrogance!
The setup? Absolutely romantic. It’s brimming with tropes I adore—forced proximity, survival against the odds, enemies-to-something-more tension. It’s swoony, dramatic, and instantly compelling. The characters, while not entirely original, were still well-developed, and the storyline promised all the ingredients for an unforgettable romance.
Where it fell short for me was in the execution. Everything unfolded too quickly, to the point where it felt unrealistic even for a fictional love story. Strangers falling deeply in love within just two days was a little hard to digest. Don’t get me wrong—the chemistry was there, and the romance was undeniably sweet. But I craved a slower burn, something that allowed their feelings to evolve more naturally. Even a short time leap of a few months could have made all the difference, grounding the story in a way that felt more believable while keeping the magic intact.
Overall, a swoony premise with great tension, but the rushed pacing left me wishing the romance had just a little more room to breathe.
I enjoyed this book immensely, a very enjoyable and entertaining story about two very different people finding love. Although from different backgrounds and and having different expectations about life a near tragedy forced them together. And also forced them to rely on each other to survive a blizzard alone in the mountains. Over the course of a few days they each learned something about not only each other but themselves as well. A very satisfying story with a perfect sweet ending. Just the type of feel good story we need more of. 💞💞
I really liked this book!!! There was immediate romantic tension between the two leads from the start, and they had fiery enemies to lovers chemistry. That is my favorite trope and I am so glad to have read it being done well. Darcy is a fierce heroine who can stand up for herself, and while Devlin acts like a spoiled, entitled asshole at first, we really see his soft side over the course of the novel. These two were truly made for each other.
This felt like a forced proximity done right, and in a unique way. I love both the MCs personalities and how they interact with one another, and the internal struggles they both face.
It was also fast paced, meaning this combined with the enjoyability, meant I managed to finish this in one sitting. It’s written well, with loveable characters and a somewhat unique setting/plot choice.
I also loved the ending/epilogue. It felt different to typical endings of similar books.
I loved the fact that straight away Devlin’s grumpy, bossy personality was shown, so you truly get the grumpy x sunshine vibes. He’s incredibly rude. Then you meet Darcy who is quite reserved and you wonder how this will work, so you carry on reading.
Plot
The plot is one that has danger, moments that will leave you giddy, and giggling for joy because there is only the one bed and the forced proximity is HOT, in the frozen mountain. I loved the development of the characters. Even though I feel like its Devlin who has the most growth. I loved the dual POV adding more emotions into the fire.
Characters
Darcy has a lot of self-worth doubts about her size and not looking like a “top model” when it comes to being around Devlin which is understandable if that’s all you see in the media and he acts like a grumpy fool. She honestly has a heart of gold and it’s clear to see and comes across naturally in her character. Devlin however grumpy has a lot of growth within the plot which is really nice to see, even if its all his fault that they are stuck and only have each other.
Recommend
If you enjoy forced proximity and grumpy x sunshine, with a hint of he falls first, then this could be for you.
Favourite Quotes
“This was her life now – her adventure. And she loved every second of it.”
“I thought you’d be more of a poker guy, given your face is devoid of emotion most of the time.”
“there is no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every kindness is a great act and can change a life forever.”
“ I know exactly who you are, Devlin Storm,” she said. “A rude, arrogant, self-centred, pompous arse, who is one hundred percent an only child.”
Favourite Chapter/s
My favourite chapters was 19 and 22.
Summed up in one sentence
A whirlwind of a stormy romance.
Overall Wrap up
This was a great forced proximity romance. The different element of the mountains and danger made it more enticing and I just enjoyed the read. The characters and their development, especially Devlin’s make the plot have so much more depth but also so much more relatable.

As soon as I spotted this gorgeous front cover, I knew that I had to read this one!
It's the first in a new series - the APEX Billionaires' Club - and also the first book that I've read by this author.
I had no clue what to expect as I went in otherwise totally blind - but the cover was enough to grab my attention instantly!
I read a lot of books in this genre and so I was ready to dive into this and follow Devlin and Darcy's story.
This did suck me in right from the start and I loved the grumpy/sunshine vibe that the characters were giving.
Devlin really was doing his best to make us dislike him....and he did manage that quite well, but I couldn't wait to see how this would turn around.
When the storm hits and the pair are stranded in th snow - this certainly left them stuck with each other.
I did like how the relationship developed, even though it was a little abrupt - there didn't seem to be a gradual change of heart - but I know that this does happen with this genre.
I was definitely expecting a little more spice - I think I've read too many super spicy reads recently, so I don't think there was a particular reason that I'd expected it with this read - and actually it made a really nice change.
Don't get me wrong - there was still spice there - just not packed in everywhere!
The writing style was great and had me totally engrossed from start to finish.
I loved the predictibility of this (standard genre) but mixed in with this, those little extras that made it feel unique.
I loved the extreme sports elements and am looking forward to getting my hands on the next book in the series soon!
This has to be one of my favorite grumpy sunshine books that I have ever read. It’s because Devlin has such a “good reason” for his grumpiness. Darcy does such a great job of breaking down his walls and making him feel comfortable so that he is able to really show his true self and be his true self. You could feel Devlin’s internal struggle between the two versions of himself. This really was one of my favorite aspects of the book.
Couple this with the intensity of the situation of a helicopter crash, injuries, and trying to survive, and this book has some very intense moments in it. Through it all, Darcy is strong, and while she doesn’t always feel brave, she really is. Darcy is smart, vulnerable, and just a good person. When she has to trust Devlin and rely on him, she lets herself because she knows it’s her only chance at survival.
I was into the slow feelings between Devlin and Darcy, and then the two dropped the L bomb really quick, and that kind of threw me off a little bit. But I did like Devlin’s stunt at the press conference (that’s all I’m saying so I don’t give anything away). Romance lovers are going to really enjoy this book!!!
I have to say that I it is only recently I’ve been opening up to romance and rom-com genres in novel form but given that I have enjoyed this genre in manga form I thought it would give this ago. I’m more of an historical romance girl. I have to say it was over all enjoyable but I did have a bit of a problem seeing or rather accepting the male character’s seeming change of heart. In the first chapter he came off as so rude and conceited. I also found that the romance did seem to happen a tad quick for people who hated each other, I know this is a trope and can happen but I like a bit more build.
That said I did like the way their relationship developed and given the extreme/survival situation of being snowed in it did make a bit more sense. The writing is easy to follow, and hooks you in quickly. Despite my reservations on Devlin I have to say I did like Darcy and her sassy. I did get the feeling that, unlike some stories, if you took the two characters and put them in another setting, the romance wouldn’t stick or work. I think in part this is me not giving Devlin a chance and still seeing him being the arrogant billionaire he started as.
All in all this was a good, quick rom-com that had a nice level of spice. It wasn’t fully for me but I did enjoy it overall. I think fans of this genre will love it though.
Thank you, @zooloosBT, for letting me be part of this tour and reviewing this book. Suddenly Tempted has a great cover and title that you will be able to spot in a bookshop straight the way. Suddenly Tempted is book 1 of this series and is a romance genre, perfect for these spring months. There are two narratives Devlin Storm who loves life and pushing his comfort zone than there is Darcy who works in a hotel and goes on helicopter ride with Devlin. This is an enjoyable read with fantastic characters that you will be able to relate with. This story is at a good pace you can keep up with. You will not be able to put 5his book down . It’s an engaging and entertaining read. Adorable read with adorable characters that you will fall in love with and the plot. 5 stars
I love a bit of choc-lit, especially with tropes such as unlikely couple, grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, and so on! The setting of this, being in the Alps, was absolutely magical and a huge part of the storyline. There were some steamy moments which were written really well. It's super easy to absolutely fly through this, as I did in a few sittings over the course of 8 hours. I just didn't want to put it down. The cover immediately attracted me to it, but the story did not disappoint. There's an epilogue set a few months later, which I love to see in this genre. This is the first in a series called the Apex Billionaires Club, and I can't wait to read more of them!
Suddenly tempted by Katie Evergreen. Apex billionaires club book 1. I absolutely loved the cover and blurb of this book. I really did enjoy this book. I really didn't like Devlin at all. Darcy, I did like. I didn't like Claudia either. But Devlin did grow on me. I did love the ending. Can't wait for book 2. I definitely recommend.
This romance is by a new to me author and one I enjoyed. I really liked the characters and how they interacted with one another. I felt the writing was fast paced and I read the book quickly.
Suddenly Tempted by Katie Evergreen is 🏔️🔥 💰⛷️❤️✨💕🌨️🏚️🌶️💍💞📖💫
Suddenly Tempted by Katie Evergreen is an exhilarating, heart-racing romance that had me hooked from the first page! This book delivers everything you could want! It has enemies-to-lovers tension, forced proximity, and a billionaire with a bad attitude who turns out to have a lot more depth than his public persona suggests.
Devlin Storm is every bit the arrogant, reckless playboy the world sees—at first. But as the story unfolds, his layers are peeled back, revealing a man shaped by his past, and the more we learn, the easier it is to fall for him. Then there’s Darcy—strong, kind, perceptive—exactly the kind of woman who challenges Devlin and shows him what life could be if he let someone in.
Their journey from enemies to reluctant allies to something deeper is perfectly paced, with real, heartfelt chemistry that leaps off the page. The survival aspect adds a thrilling edge—there’s never a dull moment—but what truly makes this book shine is the emotional depth. It’s not just about romance; it’s about two people learning, healing, and growing together. And while there’s a sprinkle of spice, it’s tastefully done, adding to the story without overpowering it.
The ending? Absolutely perfect. Not only were all loose ends wrapped up, but the glimpse into their future was a wonderful surprise. I loved that it wasn’t predictable but still felt completely satisfying.
If you love adventure, romance with substance, and characters who evolve in a way that feels real, Suddenly Tempted is a must-read. Katie Evergreen has won me over—I’ll absolutely be reading more from her!
While staying at an exclusive Alpine resort, billionaire fashion designer Devlin Storm demands to leave immediately in the middle of a severe storm. The reason for his unreasonable behaviour is not disclosed, but when told that all flights are grounded he insists he will fly his own helicopter instead. The rules state that he must have a co-pilot, so receptionist Darcy has to go with him despite her fear and trepidation. Needless to say, they crash in the mountains during a blizzard and must put their animosity aside simply in order to survive. Unlike most people he meets, Darcy is not overawed by either his wealth or his reputation and he finds this refreshing. She sees the man underneath the mask he normally hides behind. We get the story from both their points of view which enables us to see how their characters develop and change over the course of the book. They bring out the best in each other. Some elements of the story are a bit far fetched, some are cringeworthy, but overall it is an interesting read with some quite scary scenes when they are lost in the mountains during the storm. I warmed to Darcy right away, and especially liked how she persevered when Devlin’s horrible ex-girlfriend plotted to keep them apart. It took me longer with Devlin, but underneath the arrogant exterior he is not beyond redemption. The epilogue is not what you would expect to happen at all, and brings the story to a satisfying conclusion. I have not read anything by this author before, but definitely plan to read the other books in the APEX Billionaires’ Club series. Thanks to Joffe Books, Choc Lit Contemporary Romance, and NetGalley for a digital copy to review.
This book sounded fun. A bit of mountain survival, yes please!
Unfortunately this book was a disappointment for me. First of all the story happened in a very short period of time, and the main characters said iloveyous so quickly (maybe 75% but that means a couple of days in this book). So the pacing was a bit off. I skimmed the last 20% because I was annoyed by the ex's appearance. Extra drama that felt a bit loose. I didn't care very much for the characters, MMC was a bit jerk at least in the beginning, and FMC was pretty uninteresting. I really didn't see the chemistry.
WHAT I LIKED: The survival theme
WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE: The pacing was off. The whole story was quite unconvincing.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
Pov: dual, 1st person Heat: open doors Pacing: instalove, everything happens very quickly Communication: miscommunication Third act: Ending:
Main characters: * Enemies to lovers * Grumpy - sunshine * Millionaire * Opposites attract
What? * Forced proximity
Where? * In the mountains in Swizerland
Drama? * Difficult past * MMC's ex is there causing drama
Other vibes: * Survival
-- I received this ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really really really wanted to like this book. I am very into grumpy guy/nice girl books but this is just not that good.
The helicopter crash was a very unique way to get romance going but soon after, everything about the two seemed way too off and way too fast.
Devlin seemed to throw way too many red flags, getting angry immediately after being all super nice was just weird. Like fantasizing bipolar emotions. Darcy was fine. At some points in their whole survival story, she seemed way smarter than how she originally acted, which was confusing because I thought the whole point of her personality was that she didn’t really know what she was doing in life.
Their romance was… uh.. uneventful? I’m not sure how to explain this in a way that makes sense. Most of the true steamy romance happens near the end of the book, all in a span of less than a year. It starts with finding where they need to go to be rescued, kissing in said building the next day, he pleases her (oral) the same day, sleeps and wakes up, TELLS EACH OTHER THEY LOVE EACH OTHER? A year later, they get married. It all just seemed so…. Not thought out. Like the book was meant to be longer and instead of taking time to do so, the author seems to have rushed the entire thing in the end.
Overall, I did not enjoy the book. I almost didn’t even finish it. Sigh.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
The world sees Devlin Storm as a billionaire bad boy, but beneath the headlines lies a man with more depth than his reputation suggests. When he arrives at a remote resort, he’s determined to follow through with his plans—despite dangerous weather conditions. Using his wealth and charm, he convinces Darcy, a resort employee, to accompany him as his copilot on a reckless flight into an impending snowstorm. Predictably, disaster strikes, and the two crash, seeking refuge in an abandoned ranger station while awaiting rescue.
As they endure the storm together, Devlin sheds his playboy persona, revealing a more vulnerable and genuine side. While this shift adds depth to his character, Darcy’s role in the story feels more passive. She remains compliant throughout their ordeal, her reactions often meek and starstruck, making her quick forgiveness of Devlin’s treatment toward her somewhat frustrating.
Overall, the novel delivers a mix of adventure, forced proximity romance, and character exploration, though a stronger, more assertive heroine might have elevated the dynamic between the leads.
Thank you to NetGalley for providing a free advanced copy of this book. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Devlin Storm is a billionaire playboy. He is also an arrogant bully and likes to treat the people around him with contempt, especially those he considers as menials. He is also extremely competitive and a high-risk taker. Darcy Wanwright, on the other hand, is timid and self-effacing. She prefers the quiet life and is terrified of risks and adventures. Put the two together and sparks fly. When a snowstorm is predicted to hit the £11,000 a night ski resort, Devlin demands that his helicopter be readied for immediate flight. He's told that all flights in and out are grounded, but he says that it is essential that he leaves immediately and that he will pilot himself in his own Bell helicopter. He is again thwarted when the manager points out that legally, he must have a co-pilot. Devlin agrees but says that nowhere in the regulations does it state that the copilot has to be qualified. He demands that the person nearest to him, i.e., Darcy, accompany him on the foolhardy flight. The inevitable plane crash leaves them stranded high up a mountain and fighting for survival. The story is one of soul searching and personal rediscovery as each of the character are forced to confront their fears and shotfalls. This is a well written romcom filled with a few twists, a touch of spice and excitement with a bit of tragedy and comedy.
Title: Suddenly Tempted Author: Katie Evergreen Format: ebook Genre: Romance, Billionaire, Enemies to Lovers, Forced Proximity Standalone: Yes Part of a Series: APEX Billionaire’s Club POV: Devlin, Darcy Steam Level: Slow burn to warm 4/5
Devlin Storm is a force to be reckoned with. Bad boy billionaire without a care in the world, especially not for others. Or is he? When Devlin basically forces Darcy to go on a trio with him in a terrible snowstorm things get precarious. Crashing in the Alps wasn’t part of the plan but now they need to work together to survive.
It took me a bit to start to like either character, but mainly Devlin. But as the story progressed I became more invested with these characters and started to root for them.
Overall I liked this story and had a fun time reading it.
I received an advanced version of this book for free from the author. This is my honest and voluntary review.
It was good but one fault I have with it. The writing is slightly off like it just reminds me of something I would read on watts pad. Still great story though
This is definitely an enemies to lovers but it the best way. Such dynamic characters that I can't quite put them in grumpy/sunshine because they go deep. I did enjoy this alot
The smut is very minimal I think there is only 2 scenes and they don't go all the way in either. I'd give the smut like a 2.7 out of 5
Enemies to lovers Stranded alone Near death experience Opposites attract Make each other better
I would give this a solid 4 out of 5. I don't think I would recommend it unless they maybe had a better editor or something. It's still a good book though if you can get pass some of the basic writing issues which I didn't mind.
This was the first in the series for me so I missed having a connection with some of the minor characters who appeared in the previous books, but that didn't bother me at all.
I found this a sad read at times because of what Devlin had been through, how he was living his life and the thoughts and reasons he had. For me he showed what he was made of, who he was supposed to be and great inner strength to do what he did towards the end.
Darcy's character was great, how she was brought up made her who she was, and made her the only person who could see into who Devlin was and help him become who he was supposed to be. I really enjoyed this book.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I’m not entirely sure what I was expecting from this book but I found that the chemistry between the characters wasn’t even so much the issue as it was difficult to understand why either was truly the way they were…I found Devlin’s whole “my ex taught me to shut off the world” kinda incongruent with his grief or his relationship w his Mom at all really ? and Darcy was just giving nothing but anxious expositing and then suddenly she was empathizing for someone who was like by all counts, still an irredeemable jerk, at least to her?
I did enjoy the pacing bc it made it not difficult to keep reading but there wasn’t much else that held my interest unfortunately
thank you to netgalley & choc lit for this arc to review!
