After graduating from MIT with a computer science degree, hacker Emerson True bides her time until she lands the perfect job. To pay the bills, she investigates cheating boyfriends and relationship secrets.
Her newest client, musician Levi Morrison, is a typical heartbreaker – gorgeous and charming. He’s also the biggest sucker in the world. When red flags pop up, he hires Em to check into the identity of the girl he’s fallen for online.
As Em and Levi work together to find his dream girl, they discover they have more in common than they thought. Though Emerson tries to build a firewall around her heart, Levi bypasses it easily. In the end, Levi must choose between his dream girl and the nerd who unwittingly hacked her way into his heart.
"I fell with love with Levi several times. Oh, and then I fell in love with him again." - USA TODAY bestselling author HOLLY ROBERTS.
"I definitely recommend it to all who love romance and all who love nerds." - Musings of the Book-a-holic Fairies.
"Great characters with a different storyline that kept my interest the entire time." - SmutJunkie
Normally romance isn't my thing, but I so fell in love with this book! The story is adorable(please don't stone me for using that word!)and I instantly fell in love with Emerson from the very beginning with all her badassery. All the characters are relatable and everything about the story is so down to earth. When I finished, I found myself with a huge smile on my face.
For those who know me, they will know that if there is one theme that I can't pass without reading the books. That theme is what I like to call Geek Chic Lit. The cover of this book had me at Nerd. Once I opened it and got into it, other favorite aspects of mine started to fall into the story from hacking to being a P.I to musicians and of course the Geeky girl getting the hot guy who turned out to have a bit of inner geek in himself. In Boy Meets Nerd, we are introduced first to the "Nerd" aka Emerson True. She is a graduate of MIT, and her specialty is Computers and Coding. Her current goal is to find and create a new Prime Number. While doing this as she needs something to pay the bills, she works as a P.I. This is how she meets the Boy aka Levi. Levi is a video game score musician who teaches guitar lessons to children, and he is in love. Though his love sits behind a computer screen. For the past four months, Levi has been chatting to a girl online called Hope Love. They seem to be getting close, but every time he asks her to video chat him - she comes up with an excuse. One thing leads to another and Levi hires Emerson to find out if he is being catfished. During this time, Emerson and Levi spend a lot of time together and as the real identity of Hope Love is revealed. Will Levi want to stay with her after he discovers some of what he has been told is lies? What will happen though when on a road trip - Levi is headed to Ohio and Emerson to her HackerCon in Chicago, the pair spend a romantic night together? Will Levi realize that his perfect match is right in front of him rather than the girl from behind the computer screen in Ohio? Find out in Boy Meets Nerd by Leia Shaw. A perfect romance read for the geek side of us all.
The subplot of Levi's so called love for Hope is weird and it seems more as time goes on that he loved her because she was pretty not for her personality.
Emerson on the other hand is a hacker/private detective/mathematicion? She is increasingly confused and the inability of the author to convey Emerson's "nerdiness" is just typical. Em is into "numbers" but also a huge programmer? Maths and Programming ARE NOT THE SAME DISCIPLINE. They are related and use stuff from the other but they aren't interelated to the degree Shaw thinks. Just no.
#I received a copy of this book to read and for a honest review.#

Emerson is a graduate from MIT and is a skilled hacker. Her ambition in life is to discover the greatest prime number (greater than the existing one which is (2^57,885,161) − 1, a number with 17,425,170 digits.(There is a proof by Euclid that there is no largest prime- but trying to discover a new prime number is COOL! *I would if I could*)
I loved Emerson. She was funny, sweet and nice.
Levi is a musician. When he first mentioned this, I thought of the typical guy strumming his guitar and humming with it- but no. Levi wants to compose music for video games and is giving guitar lessons for a living and to save up money for buy the equipments required for composing. He has fallen in love with a girl he has been chatting with on the internet for four months.
Emerson is hired by people to check if their boyfriends or girlfriends are cheating on them. It is bad news most of the time...
So, Levi hires Emerson to find out if his dream girl is really a girl.
Turns out that Levi's dream girl is a girl- except for the fact that her name and face was different from the ones given to Levi.
Levi was a sweet guy- he really loved the girl. He sets off along with Em on a road trip to visit his dream girl and Em, to attend a conference.
On the way, some misunderstandings happen and lead Em and Levi to believe that Levi's girlfriend is cheating on him.
Here's when things get hot between Em and Levi.. But later, they choose to ignore it.
Levi goes to meet his dream girl- but realises that his heart is with Em.
Finally, Levi and Em get their happily ever after.
I loved Levi's sense of humour and enjoyed the book.
Boy Meets Nerd begins when Levi needs to hire a hacker to figure out if it his getting "catfished." He thinks he's in love with his dream girl, but the problem is he's never actually met her before. So, he hires brilliant hacker Emerson to figure out who the girl is, and if she's telling the truth. Emerson is not your typical nerd though. She's a little rough around the edges, and not really afraid to speak her mind. And she can't seem to stop thinking about Levi, even though he's already taken. These two have a lot going against them, but something keeps bringing them back together again.
Boy meets Nerd was okay. It wasn't as good as I was hoping it would be, but it was still really interesting. And I really loved Emerson. She was a very awesome heroine, and really likable. Levi on the other hand was a little hard to like sometimes. I felt bad for him, but then I also wished he would have woke up soon than he did when it came to certain things. Other than that I really liked the book. I thought it was a pretty easy read and I enjoyed it.
I was puzzled by this story. Yes, the heroine is a nerd and the author does a good job of making her act like one instead of just being described as one. The hero was a bit of a let down, though. A gorgeous (of course) musician who's really a secret nerd and acts like an idiot. That's my take on him.
It was well written. It has a HFN ending. I kept reading until the end. That's about all I have to say about this story.
Boy Meets Nerd is not your typical boy nerd meets and catches hot girl romance. Emerson is a recent graduate of MIT trying to scrape by earning money using her hacking skills to catch cheating significant others. She has spent her life keeping everyone but her computer at arms length, filling the void with work when Levi enters her life. Levi is a gorgeous and sweet musician looking for Em to prove his online love isn't really a catfish. As time goes by and Emerson searches for information Levi begins to worm his way under her shell. Levi is torn between his budding feelings for Emerson and the intense bond he feels for his dream woman while Emerson is realizing she actually does need love in her life. But is Levi the one to fill the void? Will Levi choose his dream girl or the girl of his dreams? I loved this story! Emerson was your typical antisocial hacker but hidden behind that was a sweet and vulnerable girl aching to be accepted. Although I'm not a hacker I am a nerd and I could easily relate to her. This story was a refreshing change from all the 'rich man saves poor girl from her horrible life' stories out there now. If you're looking for great story with some hot sex thrown in grab Boy Meets Nerd!
This reviewer was given an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
Girl is nerd, tomboy and clueless about boys. Cute, easy-going guy is thrown in her way due to a twist of fate. Boy meets girl, can see through everything, falls for her and avoids her defenses until he gets her. It is an adorable plot but, in this case, it didn't went very well. I think the problem might be the guy, he was too naive. He was already talking about marriage to a woman he never landed his eyes on, after only 4 months of communicating to each other. He was also too easy-going to talk to. I don't think guys would be so straightforward like he was with the protagonist when she didn't make anything easy on him. I think they fell in love too fast and the moments they had before they traveled together were uncalled for. I think the flaws I saw took the pleasure in reading this book, but it wasn't so bad also.
This book was a sweet refreshing read. It's one of those books that just make you smile. I don't know which character I loved more Emerson or Levi, they both have that quirky sexy thing going for them.
Emerson is your average stereotypical nerd. She's had few friends and even fewer lovers she's just too busy to notice or care until she meets Levi. He makes her feel and that is foreign for her. Levi is lovesick for his internet dream girlfriend, but she's keeping something from him. He hires Em to find out what. along the way he discovers the difference between cyber love and reality, and Emerson learns a little balance.
I recommend this book to anyone looking for a light uplifting romance.
There is nothing I love more than good, snarky characters. And Em is AMAZING. She is snarky. She is funny. She is nerdy. She is antisocial - or at least she seems to be. At one point she is referred to as a dragon. At another a robot. And although that could be insulting, it was just endearing and made me love the boy even more. And THE BOY....and oh boy, what a boy he is. Using the term boy seems inappropriate, but that's neither here nor there. This story is funny, sweet, endearing, and kept me turning pages and wishing I didn't have to go to work. Great characters with a different storyline that kept my interest the entire time. Can't wait to read more New Adult books from Leia Shaw!
I love a good nerd romance! Emerson is a hacker and obsessed with numbers, to pay the bills she is a private investigator over the computer. Levi is a struggling musician and fell for a girl he met online. Levi is worried he is being catfished so he hires Emerson to look into his online girlfriend, Hope Love. I enjoyed this book, there was some good humor and some pretty hot steamy scenes. I was slightly frustrated with both Emerson and Levi at times but overall I did like these characters.
I'm not one for reviews, I actually never write them. However I basically fell in love with this book right off away and I cannot wait to read more. I love nerd girls and nice but still intense guys! I believe this will be a new favorite series of mine so if you could just write a ton of books with this theme I'd be set. Thanks so much!
Loved this book :) I liked the whole catfish thing but the whole time I was rooting for Emerson...I don't believe in the whole I met you online and have never seen the real you in person but I love you....but I liked this book anyway so glad Levi chose the right girl though had me all nervous ;)
This was just what I was waiting for! Emerson is a workaholic nerd girl that has an obsession with hacking! She works as a private investigator/hacker to help women find out if their men are cheating. She gets a job offer from a struggling musician named Levi, to investigate a possible cat fishing situation with a girl he met online. The story moves along fluidly and I couldn’t wait to pick it back up again every time I set it down! It was a believable sweet story with some screaming O’s thrown in.
This book is brilliant escapism- nothing serious but a good story. Levi hired Em to find out if he is being cat fished and ends up having to deal with tricky feelings. Em finds her new client intriguing and ends up being distracted from numbers for him. Characters are sweet and whilst it is clear very early on where they will end up there is still a storyline there and character development.
It is a basic story of boy meets girl, but the characters are really vivid and very sweet. Sometimes I want a simple happy ending with nice people and not the enemy to lover or second chance dramas. This was my idea of a comfort book. The dialog was sometimes funny and I liked the nerdy jokes.
I liked the heroine who wasn’t voluptuous and overly sexy even if that whole pierced, tattooed genius hacker thing wasn’t original. The plot was OK , the MC were likable. The story dragged on sometimes . I could do without religious names used as profanities.
It's not that this was bad. It was okay, and in many ways a sweet story. It's just that there was nothing to make this story stand out from the many, many offerings in this genre.
So this book started really good. Nice chemistry and dialog but the end sucked. Like she was in a hurry to just tie it up. Should have been a 300 pg book. I guess that’s a compliment in a way.
4 You've Been Catfished Stars!!! For those who aren't in the "know", myself included,Catfish(as defined by the Urban Dictionary) is: someone who pretends to be someone they're not, using Facebook or other social media to create false identities, particularly to pursue deceptive online romances. Now, on to the story... Emerson is a resent MIT grad and...yep, you guessed it! A N.E.R.D! She's a freelance computer hacker to earn money while persuing her lifelong goal . Emerson comes accross as rude, arrogent and robotic, but, those close to her knows her warm heart. Emerson spends every waking hour trying to achieve her dream while shutting out the world around her...cleaning her apartment? nope...Personal hygiene? Nuh uh... She even forgets to eat...(I can't even begin to comprehend that one!!!)... Social life? not even on her radar...She's what you would consider A HOT MESS!!! Although, watching her roommate's relationship - so up close and personal - makes her feel a little empty inside; sometimes missing the intimacy aspect of being in a relationship ...
Levi is a musician that composes the music for video games. He's also truly, madly and deeply in love (maybe??) with a girl he's met online. BUT, Levi is growing suspicious of his online lover and suspects he being played or catfished when his online girlfriend refuses his multiple requests to Skype or talk by phone. I mean, after 4 months of "dating" and he still doesn't know what her voice sounds like?! Also, their online conversations are so vague, she's never really revealed anything too personal about herself (um...Hello, RED FLAG!...) Levi hires Emerson to ease his troubled heart and mind to find out if the love of his life is really some hairy old man or what?!
Levi and Emerson meet and are drawn to each other. They don't really know why AND it's so not good, for obvious reasons!! Emerson's confidence soars within any area of math and computers...anything outside of that area, not so much. Slowly, Levi is able to crack the hard shell of the introverted nerd girl only discover he really likes what he sees. Emerson also begins to develop some serious feelings for Levi... There's a couple of problems, though; one. He's madly in love with his online girlfriend (who could possibly be catfishing him). two. he's way out of the depths of her league, she can. not. compute. What's a nerd girl to do?? And Levi...did he really find the love of his life online? Or, is his true love sitting next to him entranced by her computer screen ...? Great Story! I'm such a sucker for all things NERDS! I'm so excited this will be a series! YAY RAH! NERD GIRLS of the world UNITE!
This is a very timely story about love and the social media.
Emerson is a hacker. Yes, she's a girl (funny name for a girl eh?) and a hardcore hacker. She's in the middle of finding out what she really wants in life when she suddenly gets a request from this guy Levi, to spy on his online girlfriend. She's the tomboy type of girl, but when Levi butts into her life, she gets the biggest problem ever. Falling for the client who's about to get his heart broken.
Levi is a striving musician. He has dreamed A LOT of the day that he would meet his 4 month-online-girlfriend, Hope Love (gag!). However, she wasn't making it easy for him. All he wants is just a glimpse of the girl he thought he was in love with, but she keeps on prolonging the agony, so he started to have suspicions. He sought the help of a hacker, and that's Emerson. He asks him to find the truth behind Hope Love's identity. Needless to say, what he finds out isn't to his liking...but then again, if it weren't for him coming to Emerson about this, they wouldn't really have met, so it's still a win-win. ^_^
Em and Levi have a pretty good chemistry. They both got the hots for each other. Hope Love is the only one standing in the way and personally, I believe she's not much of a competition to Em. It's pretty predictable actually. Levi finds out that the hard hearted hacker girl he met face to face is better than his beloved girl who lied to him online.
At some point, I questioned the speed of Em and Levi's relationship. I found it to be really fast, but I guess that's fiction to us all.
There's a big moral surrounding this book. These days, people are obsessed with social media. We all can hide who we are behind computers and say whatever we want to say. We can all just pretend to be perfect people with no flaws at all, but what happens if other people take that seriously? These people can waste their time talking to perfectly fake people. In Levi's case, it was four months of his life. Four months may not seem to be a lot to other people, but to some like me, I take that as a big amount of time wasted. This book reminds us that no matter how perfect people present themselves online, no matter how much we think or feel that we already know them because of the frequency of time that we talk to them, reality could still be a lot different, even the opposite so we mustn't really trust so easily or else, we should be ready for a grand fall out.
My only problem-ish in this book is that I want it to be longer. I wanna see what the future holds for the both of them professionally and relationship wise. Hmmm...
Anyway, all in all, this is a pretty good book. I definitely recommend it to all who love romance and to all who love nerds. ^_^
I totally loved this book and certainly didn't want it to end. I got into it right from the start and didn't want to stop reading. For me, it was one of those books that kept my attention and kept me reading from start to finish and was over far to quickly. As I get to know each of two main characters I fell in love with aspects of each of the characters, such as the looking for happily ever after in Levi and the in-your-face attitude of Emerson. I hope there is a sequel to this book, but I'd highly recommend anyone to read it.
You get introduced to two characters who seem to be exact opposites of each other yet find a way to totally click and right from the start you can't help but starting to root for them. First there is Emerson a woman who has made peace with the fact that her life is all about work work and more work. She is a part-time hired hacker who tracks down cheaters and liars for her paying clients. She thinks that love is not all its cut out to be and eventually life will show her that love is full of its own secrets and lies. Then there is Levi a musician; though struggling believes that life is worth living by following your dreams and finding that forever person to share your life with and who doesn't seem to worry about the small things in life. Levi is starting to wonder if the love of his life, his internet girlfriend, is his real forever love or if she is not all she says that she is.
Emerson doesn't want to fall for Levi because she knows how you can be hurt if you don't protect your heart. Yet Levi's natural charm and utter ease with himself, as well as his ability to make a fool out of himself just to see her smile, breaks down Emerson's walls and makes her realize what she is missing in her life. Levi doesn't want to fall for Emerson because he feels as if he has given his heart to his internet girlfriend. Yet Emerson's no-holds-barred way of speaking and acting gives Levi that spark in his life that he seems to be missing. While neither of them wants to fall for the other; its quick to see the spark formed between the two of them yet they fight so hard for it not to go anywhere beyond a business arrangement.
I love offbeat characters so this book appealed to me. Em is a hacker who is dedicated to finding prime numbers, but until she accomplishes this goal she makes a living investigating people suspected by their partners of cheating. Levi is a musician who wants to compose soundtracks for games but until he can afford the equipment he needs, he teaches kids the guitar. He is also carrying on an on-line romance with Hope but is increasingly suspicious when she finds excuses not to Skype. When the doubt creeps in he hires Em to do a little investigating to make sure Hope isn't an 80 year old dude.
What I loved about this story was the author's ability to have unconventional characters that were still highly relatable. I was so engaged in the story until I glanced down at my reading progress and saw that I was at 91%. Honestly, I felt like the story had just hit its straps. At this point I would have loved more. I concede that dragging out the drama is never a good thing so I guess it's not all bad that I was left wanting more.
Cute, quick and adorably nerdy with some steamy scenes as icing on the cake.
I am somewhat a computer geek, nothing compared to Emerson but to those around me I am the go to girl! I can relate to being geeky and single minded. I loved this story. I loved the fairytale with a kick. It was great reading and kept me going. Plus it was a great break from the bad boy, good girl story. No one was broken, no one needed fixed. It was refreshing.
Emerson True is a genuine computer geek. She is determined to make history by finding a new prime number. She is awkward, skinny and not what most men would deem beautiful. She has an excellent brain and a spunky personality. She makes ends meet by being a private investigator. Here is where she meets Levi.
Levi comes on as a client, he has fallen for an internet girlfriend who he is now not sure is a girl. He hires Emerson to see if he is being catfished.
Can two people who are complete opposites be more than friends? Is Levi really being catfished?
Love makes no mathmatical sense. How will it compute for Emerson?!
***Good enough: It was worth reading. Once. We liked it. It was good enough that we don’t regret reading it and would be willing to read others in the series.
I liked the hero and the heroine. I didn't think either of them were that great or that frustrating either. Kat was pretty quirky and cute, but I wish she was more developed. In particular, the details about her home life which were constantly eluded to, but never addressed when you actually met her family. Same with Levi's character, like why is he even dating this internet girl? All kinds of stuff.
I think in the end I just wanted "more". More reason to care, more build up, more background, more believability that Kat and Levi should be together and stay together.
It was fine, nothing special, but it could have been worse so there's always that.
