Barbara C. Doyle grew up in a small town in Upstate New York, surrounded by a passion for writing, pizza, and cats.
Her journey started at the young age of fourteen, and grew as she pursued a degree in English and Journalism throughout college. She believes that the written word is best used as a mode to escape into a different reality, thus the birth of her novels.
Her other passions include binge-watching Netflix, reading, and hanging out with her cat.
I wish to thank the author for providing me a complimentary copy of her book in exchange for an honest review.
At first, when I saw the book, I was surprised because another book had come out recently with the exact same cover. I’ve noticed this trend increasing lately and I must say it’s not a fav of mine. The cover models are also a bit older than the actual characters in the book itself and may turn off some readers.
The story intrigued me from the start. I wanted to know the characters so much more in just a couple of pages. As the story progressed, I found myself not wanting to part with reading and when I had to put the book down, I was thinking about the characters and where the story would go. That right there is the tell-tale sign of a good book.
Ebony thinks she’s about bonkers with the things she hears and the things she can do. When she finds that there are others like her, but yet not fully like her, it gives her some peace but that’s also when her story starts to really spring off. Since she now knows what she is, there’s a race for her to decide what side she’s part of. There are those who want her to start a war and there are those who want balance. Which will it be? That’s for you to read and discover.
This is a unique twist on the stories of heaven and hell. There are whisperers, Handlers, Healers, the Dark, the LIght and more to wrap your mind around . You will grow fond of some and wonder what the heck with others. There are twists and turns and the ending will feel like a punch in the gut, but you will be ready for more. The sexual chemistry is perfect with the characters and you could cut through the tension with a knife.
The author truly amazes me. She’s finishing up her senior year of high school, and if she writes likes this now I can only imagine what wonderful storytelling will be coming from her. I have become a fast fan and will be watching her closely, because I’m ready for whatever she throws our way next. A YA book that readers of the paranormal and angels and demons will absolutely love.
I could NOT put this book down once I started it and devoured it within just a couple hours. Very likable characters (even when you should hate a certain sexy badboy, you just can't) Engulfed leaves you wanting more and I can see this being a series of books that I never want to end!! I loved Nick and his total devotion to protecting Ebony even though there were times I wanted him to get the stick out of his butt and go after what he wants. I cannot wait for the next book. <3
I personally have a great fondness for this book. Right from the beginning it draws you in and builds up relationships with each and every character until you feel as though you know exactly who they are. Then, when you think you know them, it makes you second guess everything you believe about them. Nothing is quite what it seems when you wind through the pages. Each chapter brings a new twist, a new piece to the puzzle that ever so slowly becomes clear as you near the end.
Don't thing you know everything though, until the very last page you are hooked in, so one you open this book, be prepared to sit down and hang on for the ride. Be ready to feel the happiness, the confusion, the sadness, and the love that is poured out of the book. Then when you turn the page, be ready to wait for the next one, and that wait is unbearable.
I got this book free on Kindle and have agreed to do a review for the blog tour, and to be totally honest I was not really to sure what I was gonna think about this one, I have kinda grown tiered of the Angel vs Demons fight and I was expecting that from this book, but I was mistaken, of course the core idea is there and it is addressed more than once but it was a much different plot idea and I was taken by surprise by how much I enjoyed it. The speed in which I raced through the book proves that it held my attention and I believe that to be due to it getting to the point rather quickly, we know Ebony is different and we don't have to play the guessing game long, from there it was constant discovery and I just wanted more and more. I liked the duel points of view and I really liked the effort that was put in to show Ebony's struggle with dark and light fighting for control inside her, being mixed breed that is her biggest struggle and it was given the attention it needed. I had a few small issues, one being Cadan I'm sure he is gorgeous but Ebony's instant trust and then continued trust was odd and especially when he was not the only help available, perhaps I am bitter after what he did but I'm not happy that he is the horse she backed right away. The other small thing was the sexual tension, now don't get me wrong I'm all for it, but there were parts that were uncomfortable for me, and that just personal. All in all I was thrilled with this idea and I am very excited to see what will come in the next books!
I was given this book to give my honest opinion. Let me just say that this book was totally awesome. You have everything that makes a great story. Ebony (The MC) is thrown into a world that she only though existed when you die. Might sound a bit morbid but one minute she is throwing a high school party and the next she enters the world of Demons and Angels. Only she doesn't know which one is worst. There is a secret that binds everyone around her with their silence but once the truth unfold you kind of wonder if this will be Ebony's undoing as well. There is a Love square. You have the best friend Luke, the bad boy Cadan, and the protector Nick. Her choice costs her everything, but will it be the fuel she needs to survive the tasks at hand? One still remains by her side through it all. To watch the one you love, love another from afar is torturous. No spoilers here. Just buy the book. It's a fabulous start to the trilogy

I am not normally a fan of paranormal novels. Barbara C Doyle has done what no one has ever done before. Gotten me to read her story and get into it so much that I could not put it down! She brings all of her characters to life on each and every page. It was enjoyable to figure out the character traits of each character, and to follow the twists and turns in the plot lines. A very well written and easy to read novel.
Ebony can feed on people's negativity. She also has visions of an angel that is protecting her. There are similarities with Beautiful Creatures, in that Ebony will be claimed by either the light or the dark. There are two sexy dudes vying for her attention: Cadan and Nicholas. This is a well written story. The pacing was good and I found the characters interesting and likeable. 4 stars
This novel is a good paranormal romance/drama/suspense. This story held so much intrigue. I liked the way it captivated me from the start. I like the light and dark aspect. Ebony is such a great character with a good attitude. The male leads are very different from each other and yet they are both great guys, sort of. I look forward to following this series. Good read. Well written. Recommended.
