Charlotte I hated everything about My life, so I decided to change it all. I left my fiancé, went low contact with my narcissistic mom, and moved to Dryer Hill to pursue my dream career in editing. When I befriend my new neighbor, it takes no time for me to fall for him. But I’m left with the fear that I’m too broken to love. Milo After I got guardianship of my niece, Sutton, we moved into a townhouse in the heart of Dryer Hill. The day we decided it was the house for us, I saw her and my life would never be the same. She’s everything I want and now I just have to prove I can be everything she needs.
𝗙𝗶𝗿𝘀𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁: I love seeing books with MCs in their 30s and still figuring things out. This book gave me Devil Wears Prada vibes with the FMCs job. I loved all the vampire diaries references and the entire found family vibe. It’s a good read with a layer of realism built in. The FMC needs to work on herself before she can commit to a relationship and I love seeing her growth. Let’s be honest who doesn’t love a MMC who is just perfect. Milo cooks, cleans and brings her flowers!
Charlie’s dream is to open her own editing company but she knows that’s not in her cards. So next best thing is to work her butt off as assistant so she can get the open editor spot. Problem is her boss Cecilia is an imprint of Miranda Priestly, but it will all be worth it for the promotion in the end.
Milo and his niece Sutton just bought the house next to Charlie, he’s instantly drawn to her. They have an instant connection but the closer they get the faster Charlie runs away. So Milo is focusing on his food truck, Twisted Tacos he runs with his bestie. Their dream is to open their first own restaurant soon.
Milo hopes that his cooking and patience may win Charlie over, thankfully he makes the best tacos in town. But things are never that simple… and exes, dreams and insecurities get in the way. Can these neighbors make it work or will they be playing the avoidance game forever?

This wasn't bad! There were things I liked and things I didn't like. I think the overall story is super cute, and sometimes, it's kinda nice to sit down and read a cute love-story, where there aren't major heavy themes. Milo and Charlotte makes a cute couple, and Milo's family gives me the warm and fuzzies throughout the entire book. Following Charlotte's journey into finding out who she is, when she isn't letting everyone around her decide what she should be doing, was really heart-warming.
For the things I didn't care much for - miscommunication as a main plot-point is a major pet-peeve of mine, and that was a big part of this book. At times, unfortunately, it felt very forced and felt very unnatural for the characters to not be able to talk things out, . I normally also don't care much for the insta-love, but that felt way less forced.
I do also feel like this could've used another run-through with an editor. There were typos, and weird inconsistencies throughout the book, though I don't feel like it necessary takes away from the story. It just kind of pulled me out of my groove while I was reading. The characters seemed very flat until the end of the book, and I feel like with some better editing, these characters could've been fleshed out better.
Overall, this book is great for if you want a sweet love-story, where you really don't have to spend too much time analyzing and thinking. It's a great palate-cleanser, especially if you've been reading heavy books.
First thing I gotta say is I fell in love with Milo right away. The way this man took on the role of parent for his niece after she lost both her parents, all while he was grieving the loss of his sister. He would do anything for his niece, so that is why they ended up moving into a new home so she wouldn’t have nightmares anymore living in the house that was her parents.
Then you throw in that he is a chef that loves to cook for his loved ones. He runs a food truck with his brother/best friend that has the best tacos ever. Who doesn’t love a man that loves to cook and is a great one too. I adored him and just how sweet and loving he was. Loved his relationship with his niece Sutton.
Charlotte took me awhile to connect with her. She has such a horrible upbringing, your heart will go out for her and you will absolutely hate her mother. With that being said, it has messed with her mental health for a while. So I get why she is the way she is especially with Milo but I felt like she could have done things differently. But again that goes back to how she was raised and her way of thinking because of how she was thought to think about things.
But eventually they get their communication back to where it needs to be and they get their HEA. . . . 3️⃣.7️⃣5️⃣⭐️ 🌶️🌶️(the spice starts pretty quickly!) 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 7/10 recommendation
If you enjoy instant love/attraction, messy inner thoughts and feelings, and seeing both povs then this might be for you.
I'm not huge on instant love (which this felt like in my opinion), so I didn't feel as though it felt realistic - I know it's fiction and not supposed to be real, but like... I don't know. There were just moments that threw me out of the book and had me sitting there like "what the hell? That wouldn't happen.."
I also noticed a few inconsistencies - specifically about a side character's hair (but that wasn't that bad to me, it happens).
I was hoping to see the growth of Charlotte, but instead there's time jumps.. and it made me so upset.. I wish we got to see her grow and become the person she wanted to be.
Anyway, this may seem like I'm only ranting about the book, but I did have fun with it. And enjoyed myself. There were just a few minor things that stuck out to me is all.
Katarina Martinez wrote a touching book about two people who previously had bad experiences in love. Charlotte had a cheating ex fiancée and a terrible childhood for which her mother was to blame. Milo had an unbearable ex fiancée and was raising his niece due to a horrific car accident with her parents.
Charlotte meets her new neighbor and is instantly attracted to him and Milo is stunned by her beauty. Charlotte is hesitant but quickly decides to give love another try. As their relationship flourishes, the extreme spice kicks it to a higher level.
Unfortunately, miscommunication leads the two to go on their own for months. They use this time to focus on themselves and follow their dreams.
Katarina makes you realize that love can be challenging. This beautiful, heartwarming book is a great read for those that love a true-to-life romance.
It Could Be You by Katarina Martinez is a sweet and hopeful love story that I was thrilled to read as an ARC reader.
Charlotte dreams of owning her own publishing house, but self-doubt holds her back. Everything changes when Milo and his niece, Sutton, move in next door. From the very first moment, there’s a spark between them, but the most beautiful part is how Milo sees in Charlotte everything she has yet to see in herself. He’s willing to love her and help her shine, no matter what.
If you’re looking for a love story where the protagonists lift each other up and grow together, this book is perfect to read before Valentine’s Day. My rating for this book is ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Already Available in Kindle Unlimited ✨
Thank you, @authorkatarina, for the opportunity to be one of your ARC readers. 💜✨
This was a read that I picked up solely based on tropes and the dedication and boy did it deliver! Give me a chef MMC who washes her and SOLD! I am absolutely done for. lol.
Milo & Charlotte are adorable even if they did have to go through some things. At one point, I messaged Katarina begging her in hopes that Milo would get some peace because man did she put them through it. Typically, I don't enjoy the miscommunication trope but the way Katarina handled it was so well done that I wasn't put off by it. This was the epitome of a slow burn because at 80% in I wasn't even sure they were going to get their HEA.
Overall, I loved the book and am "patiently" waiting for book 2!
I must get this out of my chest, Milo is literally the best MMC ever! As I kept reading, I was telling myself that he couldn’t possibly get any better. WRONG! This man is so sweet, loving, understanding and reassuring that my heart broke for him so many times! He deserves the world! I understand why Charlotte, the FMC, was the way she was but I got frustrated with her a little bit. Her character development definitely made up for it and I loved how their story turned out! I have to give a quick shout out to Sutton, she was my favorite character in the book. Her story is tragic but she made the best out of it and was so loving and caring throughout the changes.
I LOVED this book. Very much black cat FMC and golden retriever MMC. The romance was fast and a bit of a whirlwind but also so very real when it came down to the details of how family trauma came effect your life and relationships. The right person but the wrong time. But the fact that they both took the time apart (after some communication issues) to work on themselves and their own dreams and to grow as individuals so that they were better and healthier for each other!!! This might just be added to my list of comfort reads!
This was a really good read, it follows Milo and Charlotte who become neighbors and cant stay away from each other. Milo recently went through a trauma that left him a guardian to a teenage girl which led them to become Charlotte's neighbor.
Unpopular opinion.. I LOVE a third act breakup when they are done properly and Katarina did it really well!
This was my first Katarina book and I am soo grateful I got to read it early! 10/10 recommend!
I really wanted a sweet romance as a pallet cleanser between editing my novel. I got exactly what I was looking for. The relationship between the MMC Milo and the FMC Charlotte was one that took work. The ending was beautiful. There is some spice, but not too much. The timeframe also flowed nicely and was clear. And as a vampire diaries girlie I have to STRONGLY APPROVE of that show being referenced. 😂
So I really liked the story of this book. I thought it was super sweet and the spicy parts were great. However, there were quite a few sentences that were hard to read. It seemed like the author had one sentence in mind but changed it and forgot to take out part of the original sentence. Things were also spelled wrong and a lot of grammar errors. But I loved the book and would read more of her books.
This book is sooooo good you have a FMC who just ups and leaves everything. A MMC who movies next door with his niece. As they get to know each other sparks fly. Doubts creep in, past trauma, and throw in some spice and it makes the perfect book. Its a quick, funny, amazing read. I laughed so much at the FMC sass and the MMc is swooney. Please go check it out. I hope you love it as much as i do.
Such a cute story truly showcasing distance makes the heart grow stronger. It also is a great reminder for my fellow overthinkers that we are worth it and we all have our good and bad days. But, they don’t define us and above all else we are worthy of love. Plus who wouldn’t love to have their SO in there corner no matter what being your biggest cheerleader of all!
Milo and Charlotte are such a sweet pairing. They both have experienced heartache and trauma in their lives and both respond differently. But having a connection helps them both see what the other needs and brings them together wrapped in a sweet bow by the end. Throw in a good amount of spice (hello golden retriever mmc with a dirty mouth!) and this is a great romance!
this is honestly just an adorable read if you want to read a cute love story. i’ve truly enjoyed reading this book. i’d say the only reason it’s not a five star is the miscommunication, but that’s just personal! i’ve loved the story, the dynamic between the characters and the characters themselves. would definitely recommend 💞
I was so excited for this one. The emotions were so deep and felt. I could feel everything. I loved how they both worked things out personally and for each other. I couldn’t get enough of these two they were so perfect for one another and I loved how it all ended.
This book was so cute and perfect definitely what I needed in a reading slump it pulled me out. If you want a great romance read with some spice this is the one for you!
This was a cute, easy to digest read story... which I love in a romance novel. Was able to finish it in one sitting and enjoyed it!
The story was a heartfelt take on the found family trope. the way characters were able to settle into moments of belonging really amplified the warm, comforting energy to the story.
