Parker’s intuition has been itching for months—no, it’s probably closer to years—telling him something isn’t quite right in Willow Lake. But sometimes it’s safer to ignore the feeling than expose truths you don’t want to face. Especially when Levi, the handsome and beefy owner of the local motel, is right in the middle of all the weirdness.
Okay, okay.
Parker might have an itty-bitty crush on the big guy, but who can blame him? Levi is delicious… and as the owner of a café, Parker knows a thing or two about tasty treats.
And now Parker’s Nana is in town and she hasn’t come alone. She’s dragged his cousin and his paranormal investigative team along with her. But her arrival couldn’t have come at a worse time, because Parker was finally making progress with Levi.
Now what is he supposed to do? Because, for the record, it is incredibly difficult to flirt when your grandmother is eyeing everyone, including Levi, like she's in the FBI and they are in the Mafia… or like she’s Van Helsing hunting down a bunch of powerful supernatural beings.
Because that’s ridiculous. Really.
Right?

~~~ Note: This is a fun paranormal romance spin-off from the Willow Lake Supernaturals series. In it, you'll find a lot of familiar characters but you do not need to read that series before you dive into this one. If you are curious about what happens in Willow Lake Supernaturals, you can start with Hellhounds Never Lie (Book 1).
When Lori was in elementary school, she wrote a very compelling story about a girl with a prickly personality who turned into a rose. (Sounds amazing, right?) Then she discovered romances in her teens and, well, she knew she wanted to write romances. It took her a little longer to find MM romances, but once she did, she was addicted. She lives in a small town in Alberta with her husband and an elderly black cat who might be a familiar.
Moody as a Minotaur is the first book in the new Willow Lake Pack series. I'm so happy we're getting more stories from Willow Lake with this series spin-off from the Willow Lake Supernaturals series. We are finally getting Levi the minotaur shifter and Parker the humans story. I loved this book, I really wanted to see Levi and Parker get their happy ending. This book has it all, humor, sweet MC's, lots of emotion, some danger, and a good plot. This was just a fun read and a great start to the new series. I can't wait for the next book in the series. I would definitely recommend this book as a 5 star read. received a free review copy
I have wanted Parker to get his HEA since we first met him and Moody as a Minotaur was a decent read. Much slower burn than the first series set in Willow lake.
If you are looking for a soft pnr (paranormal) romance then this is your book.
A great paranormal MM. I have been waiting for Parker and Levi to finally have their moment since book 1 of Willow Lake Supernaturals. They are so cute together.
We have a meddling Nana who's the sober version of Malory Archer, so many bull/cow/minotaur puns, tragic back stories, slow burn sweetness.
Parker has surprise talents that concern Levi but come in handy.
Can't wait for the next book!.
In the small town of Willow Lake, café owner Parker has had a crush on motel owner Levi pretty much since he moved to town, following a strange urge to upend his life and buy a café in a place he’d never even heard of. Over the years, their friendship has skirted on the edge of something more, though there always seems to be something preventing Levi from taking things further, and Parker’s never felt fully accepted by the otherwise friendly locals. After a late-night call with his paranoid grandmother results in her surprise arrival, with his cousin and a couple of paranormal investigators in tow, Parker may finally be about to discover exactly what’s going on. Meanwhile, Levi and the rest of the supernatural community of Willow Lake are about to have their safe haven truly shaken up.
What I liked: This is the third book of the Willow Lake community I’ve read, and I’m still loving the vibes I get from the many quirky characters. While I haven’t caught up on the previous series yet, this novel sets up a new overarching storyline, and it feels like it’s going to be a good one. Parker and Levi were incredibly sweet and an absolute joy to read about. There were some truly funny moments involving the townsfolk, and also Parker’s Nana that had me giggling.
What didn’t work for me: As much as I loved Levi, he did frustrate me at times due to his overly protective and cautious nature. Story-wise, it was a bit hard to keep track of who’s who in my head with such a large cast of characters. Also, though I admit this is my own problem for not reading the earlier books first, some of the major plot points from previous instalments were revealed, which left me feeling a bit deflated.
Final thoughts: A fun-filled, slow-burn paranormal romance with a touch of action.
Who would enjoy this: Fans of shifter romance mixed with small-town community charm.
This book. The awkward longing. The inner monologues. The two sweet cinnamon roll MCs. The love and acceptance. I loved it all. This supernatural, small town, wounded hero, fake dating, chosen mates romance with a side of danger and intrigue was a deliciously fun and swoony story. It had the perfect balance of humor, heartwarming love, real life issues, big feels and spice. Despite the element of danger, the story was such a warm and happy read for me. Levi is a minotaur shifter who owns the hotel in Willow Creek, a small town where the majority of inhabitants are supernaturals. Parker is a human who has owned the cafe in Willow Creek for several years. He is unaware of the existence of supernaturals. Parker and Levi are good friends who have been attracted to each other since they met but, for reasons, they both just pine for each other instead of acting on it. The journey to their HEA and the barriers they’ve put up get a push when Parker inadvertently lets slip to his grandmother that sometimes things feel hinky in town. As a result, his grandmother shows up with his cousin and a team of paranormal investigators in tow. What follows the grandmother cyclone and the potential danger, is a wonderful journey of baggage unpacking, truth telling, and life course correction with a side of evil and danger. I have a soft spot for the people who are a bit wounded and bruised, like Levi and to some extent Parker. Wounded characters always draw me in. I just wanna reach into the story and hug them to help them heal. So I love when they finally find some peace and healing and get swoon worthy HEAs. This well written story included witty dialogue, good world building, three dimensional characters who grow, and an engaging storyline. I love this little town and am excited to read more in this new series. 4.5 stars.
I liked Parker a lot, I liked how he reacted to finding out about all the supernatural beings living all around him in the town, he had a moment of an almost meltdown but it passed quickly... I enjoyed his sense of humor. With Levi, it actually took me a bit to warm up to him... I like imagining that big guy blushing any time Parker flirted, but I got a bit frustrated with his stance of keeping Parker away... once we know his past story, which took way too long to be explained, we can somewhat understand where he was coming from but at the same time I wanted him to be a bit more forward.
I liked the town and there were many interesting side characters, BUT, there were way too many of them.. and even though the author did short introductions of each, which I'm grateful for, it was obvious that there was much left unsaid, many past events that weren't fully explained... that's when I looked up this series and found out this is a second series set not only in the same world but in the same town... I felt a little lost sometimes, I'm more used to spin-off series having at most just some appearances of past characters and them not having a big impact on the current series... but in this one they were quite active. I would recommend first reading the previous series and THEN reading this series. I will absolutely look for the books of the other series as I want to know more about what happened. The overall story was really interesting, though there was a bit of a cliffhanger at the end...
POV: dual Tropes: human/minotaur, chosen mates, mutual pinning, slow burn romance, small magical town. Spice: medium low (detailed scenes towards the end) CW: past torture and death of loved one, anxiety attacks, violence, human hunters treating supernatural beings as monsters to be eradicated.
I really enjoyed this author’s Willow Lake series, well apart from book 4 but it was one of the MCs as the reason, not the books itself/the plot, and I’ve been looking forward to Levi & Parker getting their own book.
Can you read as a standalone? Personally I don’t think so. There’s a presumed understanding of past events, and whilst they don’t directly impact those storylines you would miss a lot of little connections.
Now I usually find book 1 in a series to be weaker, as we are getting the set up, but I didn’t find that to be the case here. I thought the wider plot - supernatural hunters - flowed really well with our relationship development.
Levi and Parker were just perfect. Their set up has been going on since book 1 in the Willow Lake series so I had high hopes. I wasn’t disappointed. They just work, and because they’d been eyeing each other for years it wasn’t an instalust situation.
I was worried about this book being 90% pining and miscommunication but that didn’t happen. They both want each other, they both know that but Levi has to keep himself back due to the whole human x Minotaur situation. However Parker gets his grand reveal in a pretty amusing way. I did giggle. There was actually quite a bit of humour going on and I liked that, given the overarching plot is a serious one. Our MCs also felt real, Parker talks to his pet fish and Levi suffers from anxiety - his internal monologues were humerus. Like, yes there’s supernatural shenanigans going on, but we got to see them as real people.
I did enjoy this and I’m really looking forward to book 2 - it’s hunt down our missing unicorn time!
I got this as an ARC from gayromancereviews.com and this review is my honest opinion. I was intending to read this series so am glad I got an ARC, but if I hadn’t I would have read and reviewed anyway.
Moody as a Minotaur is the first book in Lori Ames’ new Willow Lake Pack series, and it also a spin-off from the Willow Lake Supernaturals. While you could just jump in here and read it as a standalone, I’d strongly recommend reading the original series first. Otherwise, you might feel overwhelmed by the many side characters, plus you’ll avoid running into a bunch of spoilers. 😉
Now, back to this book. Parker and Levi finally, finally get their turn...and let me tell you, it’s been a loooong time coming! These two have been dancing around each other forever (throughout the whole original series!), and now we finally get their HEA. True to their story so far, this is a (super) slow burn romance. For much of the book they’re still dancing around their feelings while the plot is plotting around them (I’m being vague to avoid spoilers). That did feel a little dragged out at times, especially since Levi’s backstory comes quite late in the story. And while it finally does explain his cautious nature, I really wish it had been revealed earlier.
Parker was surprisingly fun character to read. I loved his sense of humour, and his bravery...and, of course, his chats with his fish(es). I also liked how his reaction to the supernatural side of Willow Lake felt real. Sure, he freaked out a bit, but it was just enough to be believable, but then he just got on with things without dragging the story. Levi was a bit trickier for me. While I really liked him, I found his protectiveness and hesitance was quite frustrating at times. Again, once we finally learn about his past, it all makes more sense, but I just wish we got that insight sooner.
As with the original series, this book is full of quirky characters that make the Willow Lake community. Parker’s Nana is an absolute riot, the townsfolk are quirky and lovable, and little details like Levi’s miniatures or the (dad) cow jokes added even more fun to the story. There are also hints to a bigger overarching storyline, that makes me even more excited for what comes next.
If I would compare this spin-off to the original Willow Lake Supernaturals series, this book feels softer and slower...it’s leaning into the romance more than the action. Despite a few small issues, this was a sweet, fun read that left me smiling, feeling warm, and eager for the next book. 🥰
I received a copy of this book from Booksprout, and this is my unbiased review.
I've waited impatiently for this new spin-off from the Willow Lake Supernaturals series since I finished Alphas Never Hide. I got the ARC from the lovely people at Gay Romance Reviews, and it doesn't disappoint!
Parker the human runs the local cafe. He has lived in Willow Lake for years, and has swooned over Levi for just as long. The town weirds him out at times, but he loves living there. Levi the minotaur shifter runs the local pub. He has swooned over Parker since the guy moved to town, but has never acted on it - both because he's shy, and because the local supernaturals can't risk revealing themselves to outsiders.
Then Parker's gran blows into town with his cousin Finley and some rather odd ghost hunters in tow, and freaks out Levi and the rest of their little town.
The grandma is not one of those cookie baking clichés, on the contrary -she dresses in all black, ran summer bootcamps for Parker and Finley when they were kids, and may or may not have been a secret operative back in the day.
“What is the first rule of Nana’s house?” “What happens at Nana’s house, stays at Nana’s house,” Parker recited.
I was at the edge of my seat more than once, and I'm looking forward to the next book. What happened to true believer Tammy? Is the enemy in possession of more artefacts? Was the labradorite amulet stolen from the pack house collection?
Oh, and since this is a new series but in the same Willow Lake setting, I wonder if we'll finally find out the truth about Paws aka Pawington the Third.
This is book 1 of the new Willow Lake Pack series. It jumps off the Willow Lake Supernaturals series. While I think you could read this book without reading the previous series first, I think you would be overwhelmed with all the secondary characters and not understanding the full impact that they have. I would recommend reading the previous series first as this book carries on from that series. This is the story of Parker and Levi. Parker is a human who owns and runs the local cafe in Willow Creek. He doesn't understand the need that made him move to the town but he really likes it and the other townsfolks. Though to be honest, he doesn't really feel fully accepted. But there is one specific person who catches his attention, Levi. Levi is a Minotaur and owns the only motel in town. He too is interested in Parker but keeps pulling back because he knows he has already had his forever mate. He wants Parker to have that special link as well even if it has to be with someone else. Thankfully, a series of events happen that force the two of them together. This is their story. The book is a very, very slow romance. Throw in the threat of danger and Parker's Nana; there is enough action to go around. I really enjoyed this book. I loved Parker's outgoing and positive nature. Being quite adept at using a weapon is a skill that is always to be admired in times of trouble. His sense of humor keep him and other calm. Levi is very protective of Parker. Though I did have trouble with his inability to commit but we are shown why he acted that way. This is a sweet and fun read. I am already looking forward to the next book in the series.
I loved the Willow Lake Supernaturals series and i really couldn't wait for the contuniation of the story. Levi and Parker are great together. I can understand Levi's reluctance to date/mate Parker, but I think it was unfounded. It was a slow burn, but you could tell they both wanted each other for years. And I'm glad they could get a "proper" bond.
The actual story with the hunters was also interesting. I won't spoil it for you, but it made reading it even better with all the surprises. I can't wait till the next book comes out. I received a free copy of this book via GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review. angst 3/5 heat 3/5 () story 4.5/5 POV dual
This is book one in the author’s new Willow Lake Pack series, a spinoff of her Willow Lake Supernaturals series and, although this was my first time reading this author, now I’m wildly curious about the entire WIllow Lake series. Minotaur was fun, which I absolutely love in a romance, but it was also suspenseful too with the hunters sneaking around and the dangers they posed to all the supernaturals in town.
Parker was adorable. As a human, he could tell something was off in the town but he had no idea what it could be; all the cafe owner knew for sure was that he wanted Levi, the owner of the only motel in Willow Lake, desperately. The likelihood though of Levi wanting him back was yet to be determined as he ran hot and cold. The arrival of suspected hunters in town however gave him the opportunity to draw closer to the moody man.
Poor Levi, for a big, bad minotaur, he was a nervous wreck. Not that he didn’t have every right; he had firsthand experience of the carnage the hunters could cause and struggled with their presence. As if that wasn’t enough, he had feelings for Parker though he knew it could never go anywhere but still, he couldn’t stand the thought of Parker being hurt so he had to be the one to protect him while still maintaining his distance… not that Parker was gonna let him get away with it.
This was a fun book, no real angst involved, but lots of suspense which really just added to my overall reading enjoyment. I recommend reading it to everyone who enjoys PNR romance, it’s an awesome book. 4.5 stars
We've been following the characters of Willow Lake for a while now, and this installment finally gives us Parker and Levi's long-awaited story. Parker has been harboring feelings for Levi since the very beginning, and watching their dynamic unfold has been interesting.
Parker knows he's somewhat of an outsider, but he's found his home in Willow Lake—and most importantly, he's found Levi, even if he's unsure about how the big guy feels in return. Things get delightfully complicated when Parker's grandmother arrives with his cousin and a paranormal investigative team after one too-honest late-night phone call, where he was a bit too honest about his feelings in the town. Parker is torn between being happy he is seeing this family and keeping them as far as possible from his newfound family in Willow Lake.
What I found interesting about this book is how the author explores Levi's complexity as a character. At first, he comes across as overly cautious—about getting close to Parker, about protecting supernatural secrets, about potential threats to their community. His hot-and-cold behavior toward Parker (knowing full well Parker's feelings) creates real friction. However, around the midpoint of the book, we finally understand the reasoning behind his actions, which adds depth to his character that wasn't immediately apparent.
While the pacing took some time to find its rhythm for me personally, and I found myself frustrated with the will-they-won't-they tension in the first half, I was ultimately satisfied to see these two get their happily ever after. And most importantly, I love getting back to my beloved characters and can't wait for Nelson's story!
Earlier this year, I was looking for something to read, and I had caught up on most of my favorite authors, so I took a chance on Lori Ames’s “Hellhounds Never Lie,” not knowing what to expect. It was delightful, and I quickly got sucked into her take on the supernatural world and her Willow Lake community. I’ve now listened to most of them more than once, and I’m waiting impatiently for “Alphas Never Hide” to come out on audio.
Since the beginning of the Willow Lake adventures, Ames has teased us with Levi and Parker. I’ve been rooting for them for what feels like forever at this point (five books feels like forever, okay?). It thrilled me that these two were finally getting their own book!
“Moody as a Minotaur” did not disappoint. Levi and Parker’s story gave me all the feels I’d hoped it would and the laughs, too.
I love authors who can balance deep emotional moments with humor, fun, and suspense.
This book is one of my favorite kinds of comfort reads, and I know it’s going to be a book I revisit over and over.
There is enough yearning and sadness to make the connection they ultimately create feel incredibly satisfying without the book becoming emotional torture to read. There’s plenty of humor, the romance is lovely, and Ames wove the suspense and mystery in well with everything else to keep things exciting. Ames packed this book with both found-family feels and some great explorations of blood-family relationships as well.
Like I said, I know I’m going to be rereading this. I can’t wait for it to come out in audio so that I can listen to it too!
I'm really glad that Levi and Parker got their HEA; they've been an interesting pair on the periphery of Willow Lake and it was good to get to know them both better. Parker was a great character; I loved his unusual habit of having conversations with his fish, his bravery and his determination. Levi had good chemistry with him but I felt like he was a bit of a wimp for most of the story where the action was relatively low and then at the higher drama/action he was almost a different person! I'm probably being far too unsympathetic but he annoyed me a bit with his seemingly unexplained fear and shaking over every single action or emotion. I think it would have been good to get the knowledge of why Levi resisted Parker so much a bit earlier in the story and maybe I'd have understood a little more about his behaviour.
I enjoyed the plot but thought that some of that later action could have been moved forward a bit or more could have happened with the hunters around Willow Lake. I had a few questions at the end like why did Kyle head that direction away from the group? Maybe we'll never know and it really didn't mean anything. Overall though, I liked their HEA together and I'm so excited for book 2 in this spin off.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Hilarious, Heartfelt, and Horns-Down Adorable! Moody as a Minotaur by Lori Ames is the perfect blend of cozy small-town charm, sizzling chemistry, and laugh-out-loud paranormal fun. Parker, the snarky café owner with an overactive intuition, completely stole my heart—and his banter with Levi, the broody (and secretly magical) motel owner, had me grinning the entire time.
The setup is pure gold: a meddling grandmother with a paranormal investigation team, a string of small-town mysteries, and a slow-burn romance that’s equal parts sweet and steamy. The humor is sharp and witty, but what really makes this book shine is its heart. Parker and Levi’s connection feels real—awkward, tender, and full of warmth. Their growing trust and attraction unfold beautifully as the secrets of Willow Lake start to surface.
And can we talk about Nana? She’s an absolute riot, stealing every scene she’s in. Between her nosy antics and the quirky townsfolk, the world of Moody as a Minotaur feels vibrantly alive and ready for more stories.
If you love MM paranormal romances with small-town vibes, magical mysteries, and endearing characters who make you laugh as much as they make you swoon, this one’s an easy five-star read. I’m already excited for the next Willow Lake Pack book!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I, much like the citizens of Willow Lake, have been waiting for Levi and Parker to get together sooo badly! And I was very hyped to learn this book was coming.
The town of Willow Lake is a magical town, blessed by the Eternal Magic, and just full of the kindest, most supportive if meddling found pack you could hope to find!
Levi and Parker have been a slow burn with a hint of 'they both know they're into each other right? They're just... like not admitting it? Right? No one is THIS oblivious??" and it was nice to finally get their pov on those moments. Turns out Levi has some heavy previous relationship trauma he's been carrying around for literal centuries! So the slow burn and this books additional forced proximity motivates him to face those issues. These moments are heavy, esp compared to the overall lighter tone of the series, but it's handled with respect and care.
The balance of this book did feel like it leant a bit more towards setting up the overall arc/continuation of Willow Lake story line. If you're picking Moody up first, this background is helpful but doesn't bog the story down too much. Overall, I did devour this book and really enjoyed the relationship dynamics and the setup for more!
I was so excited to see Lori Ames spin off her Willow Lake Supernaturals series, and Moody as a Minotaur did not disappoint! This is Willow Lake Pack Book 1, and it’s filled with everything I love about Lori’s writing—great characters, humor, spice, action, and a romance worth rooting for.
Levi is a broody minotaur who lost his fated mate centuries ago. He’s not grieving anymore, but he also doesn’t believe he’ll ever get another chance at that kind of bond. Parker, a human convinced something strange is happening in Willow Lake, has been dancing around Levi for what feels like forever. When Parker’s Nana blows into town (spitfire alert!) with his cousin and a paranormal investigative team, secrets start unraveling—and so does the tension between Levi and Parker.
Their romance is equal parts tender and fiery, with laugh-out-loud moments, heartfelt discoveries, and plenty of steam. And when eternal magic gives Levi the impossible—a second fated mate—it makes the HEA even more satisfying.
I absolutely loved this book. It’s a must-read for fans of shifter MM romance, and I’m already counting down the days until Nelson’s story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was so, so happy that we were getting more from Willow Lake and downright giddy over the fact that it was (finally) Levi and Parker's turn! I will admit, towards the end of the last series I was starting to feel kind of miffed at the other characters for not bringing Patrick into the fold. I understood why, but you could see how Parker was noticing how much he was set apart from people he thought of as friends. I'm so glad that Parker has fully become part of the community now and that he and Levi have stopped the pining and taken the (admittedly scary) leap for each other. What I love about Lori's books is that she somehow manages to make a romance that has some angst (pining always creates angst imo) but it still feels like an almost no romance angst book. Maybe it's because I've read enough of her books to know there will absolutely be a HEA but I remember feeling that way with my first Willow Lake book. Somehow it's written in a way where you just know that these characters are going to find their way to each other and be okay. There's also always a good non-romance plot in her books which gives you that feeling of tension without it being too much. Needless to say, I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment of Willow Lake!
I loved the Willow Lake Supernaturals series and it's great to return to the (mostly) supernatural town for this new Willow Lake Pack series. This is where all the side characters that we know and love get their HEA. Parker, owner of the Flying Rowan Cafe has been lusting after quiet Levi, owner of the motel for years - ever since he moved to town and opened his cafe in fact. Every time he thinks Levi may feel the same, he pulls away. Levi wants Parker more than anything, but he just can't have him, can he?
These two were so sweet, dancing around each other until Parker's Nana comes to town and everything Parker thought he knew about Willow Lake changes.
This was a really slow burn, but all the better for it. Levi and Parker were hysterical being forced into each other's spaces. I loved how it was Parker with the take charge attitude a lot of the time, trying to protect the big scary minotaur, whilst Levi was falling apart.
The show however, was stolen, by Edie, Parker's grandmother, the Nana-nator. 4.5*
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Mr. Juicy meets the Nana-nator, 5+ stars The title of this chapter says it all. Fun, sarcasm, action and family. Parker's grandmother, is more of a drill sergeant with a shady past as a possible spy than a cookie-baking grandmother, his cousin runs a paranormal investigation team, or that could be a cover for something more sinister, and Parker's crush on Levi is now as big as a warehouse and Levi is not far behind. Will they find each other when Levi's worst nightmares seem to be coming back to life, Parker's meddling relatives are not much help and the residents of Willow Lakes are stressed by paranormal "investigators" prowling around? This is a great start to this spin-off series of Willow Lakes Supernaturals. The characters are vivid, well-developed and likeable, the story is engaging and exciting. I found it very hard to put the book down. It made me laugh and bite my nails at the same time. I didn't think it was possible to top the first series of Willow Lake, but this might be my favourite. I recommend reading at least one part of the Willow Lake Supernaturals series first to get to know both the characters and the setting. Highly recommended.
Moody as a Minotaur is the first book in Lori Ames' Willow Lake Pack series. It can be read as a standalone, but all the couples from the Willow Lake Supernaturals series are here. So it would be easier to keep track of who is who if the earlier series is read. There's Hunters and danger in the plotline. Human cafe owner, Parker and his longtime crush, hotel owner and Minotaur Levi go undercover to get information that can be sent to the Supernatural Council. Parker's initiation into the supernatural world is quite funny. And rather than panicking, he finds Levi's shifted form extremely sexy. There are terrible dad jokes and Parker's Nana, whom he loves if she'd only take her eccentricities elsewhere. The sizzle between Parker and Levi is anvil hot and heavy. They are extremely protective of each other; Parker's summers with Nana good warrior training. Supernatural trafficking and turning the Willow Lake Inn into a supes sanctuary are plot arcs continued from the previous series. As is the strong found family vibe. Next book up is Nelson and his unicorn. It looks really good. I received an advanced copy of this book from GRR and this is my review.
Parker has lived in Willow Lake for awhile now and he has suspicions that there is ~something~ that is being hidden from him. Levi, who is very much a minotaur, is interested in Parker but is *again* not human. Will Parker figure out the truth behind Willow Lake? Will he forgive those around him for the deception? More importantly: can anyone even attempt to have a budding relationship with their grandmother skulking about?
This book is a riot! It has a sassy mysterious grandmother (niche reference but she reminds me of the aunt in the hilarious "Barbie: Spy Squad"), supernatural secrets, a possible cult, and interfering family members. I really enjoyed Parker and Levi navigating their newfound relationship but honestly Parker's grandmother steals the show! I sense that the series will feature more of her (it seems like she's sticking around) and I cannot wait for her shenanigans!
While it is the first book in the series, I recommend reading the previous series first to avoid being spoiled.
Overall a fun, easy read with moderate stakes and delightfully awkward moments.
Moody as a Minotaur is the first book in Lori Ames’ new Willow Lake Pack series. The series is a spin-off from the Willow Lake Supernaturals series that introduced us to the town and many of the residents. That series had a clear arc that came to a nice conclusion in the final book, Alphas Never Hide, so I think it makes sense to kick off a new series here. But while this book could probably stand alone, be aware that many characters cross over and there are references to past events from the original series. So I do think this is going to work best for folks who have read at least some of the original Willow Lake books.
I am a big fan of the original Willow Lake series, so I was really excited to learn that Ames was keeping things going with this new series. There are some interesting developments here that I think will lead nicely into further books, and I am really excited about where things are going with the next pairing.
In my opinion to get all the back ground it is worth reading Willow Lake Supernaturals Series first and this is also where we met Parker and Levi for the first time. Levi and Parker have danced around each other since the first book, but as Parker is human and unaware of the magic surrounding the town, Levi has tried to keep his distance, but as time goes on and some meddling by the newly arrived Nana things are changing for the pair. Within the book there is some Trigger warnings at the beginning which some might want to take notice of. Along with meddling family members there is, Hunters, so some danger, some pining, plenty of emotions and lots of cow/bull jokes. I reallly enjoyed reading this book and loved the ride that these very sweet MCs take the readers on. I thought this book was as well written as the first series, a seamless continuation of the world built and although this is a new series there is more stories to be told and I am here for them. Re-reading this book will be a must at some point and I might even go right back to the beginning.
This was such a satisfying read! The romance is a slow burn, but when they finally come together it’s fireworks. I loved the mix of heart and suspense, with just enough danger to keep things tense without taking away from the emotional moments.
The characters are fantastic. Parker is such a delight. His quirky imagination had me grinning, especially when I pictured the judgmental stares from Sushi and Filet. Levi’s quiet strength and deep sadness made my heart ache for what he’d been through; he’s the kind of character who stays with you.
It was great catching up with familiar faces from the related series, and Parker’s grandmother was a charming surprise that added an extra layer of fun.
I really appreciate when a story is part of a bigger picture like this one—it makes me feel invested in how everything will unfold. Revisiting this world was a joy, and I’m already looking forward to seeing more from both returning characters and an intriguing new one introduced in this book.
Waiting five books for Levi and Parker's story, watching them together (but not together together) in the pub, I was so happy to finally read their story. This was a really slow burn romance, with lots of pining on both sides. Learning Levi's history, I understood his reluctance to make a move on Parker and my heart broke for him. Parker was sweet, so funny talking to his fish, and his attraction to Levi was just as strong as Levi's attraction to him. I adored Levi's home. It sounded amazing and I wished the book was a film at that point, so I could see everything in detail. The ending was beautiful, with Levi and Parker getting their HEA in an unexpectedly glorious fashion. The story involved a lot of the townsfolk and I loved seeing them all again. It also introduced Parker's grandmother, feisty and fabulous, and his cousin who was a bit naive and a bit like Jeremy! So glad they're staying. The next book belongs to Nelson and Morgan and I can't wait to read it.
"The motto What happens at Nana’s house, stays at Nana’s house was a promise I’d never broken."
This is book one of a new series by Lori Ames called Willow Lake Pack. It's a spin-off series of the Willow Lake Supernaturals and the same Willow Lake characters are in this series as well. When I saw this on Booksprout I grabbed it because I love everything about Willow Lake.
Parker, a human and owner of the Flying Rowan Café, has been sensing something being off in Willow Lake. He's had a crush on Levi since he moved to town and opened his new café. Levi, a Minotaur shifter and owner of the Tarbeck Motel, also has feelings for Parker but doesn't feel like it should go anywhere. When danger comes to town, secrets are revealed.
A moody shifter, a curious human, hurt/comfort, the cat's out of the bag so to speak, a dangerous situation, fated mates/chosen mates does it really matter, fish make the best pets, Nanas are often a handful
This is a continuation of the Willow Lake Supernatural series - I'm not sure why she's calling it something different.... It takes place in Willow Lake with all the same folks from the other series. Can be read as a standalone, but all the other books are fantastic, so you might as well read those too!
This is Parker, the human baker, and Levi the innkeeper Minotaur's romance. Parker's grandmother and cousin come to town, but they bring 2 hunters with them. Parker finally realizes that magic and monsters are real, which is a good thing, since he and Levi can actually move their relationship from friends to romance, now that Parker understands Levi is a minotaur. They follow the hunters out of town and back to the university, where they try to go undercover to find out how big the cell is.
Levi is grumpy and nervous, Parker is calm and talkative. They fit together nicely. Looking forward to more in this series.
Confession - I have read all the books that take place in Willow Lake and loved them all. Given the level of character development I’m not sure how much you’d enjoy this as a stand alone book. If you do decide to read this as your first book, I highly recommend going back and reading the Willow Lake Supernatural series to see how it all started. These characters and their stories are all so great!
I LOVE Parker and Levi. The build up to this book after watching them circle each other through the past five books was such a delight.
This was such an adorable slow burn to read that kept me on my toes. So much so I had to read it in one sitting! Friends to lovers in the best way 🩷
I’m intrigued by the new big bad for this series (assuming things carry through the same way as the previous series) and can’t wait to see Morgan free.
