When Bridget Honeyman and her brother Gil are invited to stay in a château not far from their holiday home in rural France for the weekend, little did they know that amateur sleuth Bridget would experience her first taste of murder at very close quarters. Even more intriguing is that the murder appears to be an example of the classic “locked room” mystery. Gil and Bridget and their fellow guests, as well as the owner of the château and the catering staff, are of course soon all under suspicion. As the police struggle to find a motive let alone the perpetrator, Bridget cannot resist getting involved. As usual, Gil advises his sister to be careful since they are sharing a house with a murderer and that “walls have ears”. Bridget of course pays no heed.
However it is a chance remark by Gil which sets the wheels in Bridget’s mind in motion and she gradually formulates an idea of how the killer made their escape from a locked room. She thinks she has the “how” but it takes the discovery of the first piece of tangible evidence to point to the “who”. The detective in charge of the investigation is giving nothing away so has Bridget been barking up the wrong tree or has she once again solved the mystery?
Fans of the Gil and Bridget Honeyman Mystery Series will be thrilled to learn that all their favourite characters, including Doug and Helen Faulkner and of course the indomitable Béatrice Blanchard are back in this the sixth in the series. As usual, Bridget skilfully blends her sleuthing skills with an extra dollop of baking, warmth and good humour.
Like all the books in the series “Murder impossible” can be read as stand alone story but to get the most out of the book it is recommended that you read the other books in order and which are listed below.
