Lots of very practical, tangible advice in this, like specific recommendations for materials, as well as higher level guidance, like leaning on specific memories for inspiration.
It's divided into sections on color, texture and paint, then mini case studies showing how those were combined in real spaces, and finishes with full home tours of five different homes. There's a double page spread of common colors, which is echoed at the end of the book with names for each color in several common paint brands. Likewise, there's a spread of common textures and patterns with design notes. It concludes with a couple pages of tips, condensed, along with page numbers where you can go look up more advice.
The designer's style is too polished / formal / hotel-y for my taste, but the explanations and advice were interesting. This is very thoughtfully put together.
I loved his designs on Trading Spaces and the information in this book is great but his actual designs are...not to my taste. In fact, the picture representing "Children's Spaces" i thought was either AI generated or a joke.
Great info for new home designers. Love his advice and comments. He has a distinct design style which is not to my taste. However the kitchen in his beach home is amazing. Recommend for his fans.
