Alpha’s Substitute Bride

Rate this book
"It didn’t matter. My bride was a fraud."

On our wedding night, I planned to show her who was in charge. But the moment I touched her, I knew something was wrong.

Nyla. The name burned in my heart before I could stop myself.

She wasn’t my fiancée, not the woman I was supposed to marry. But here she was, standing before me, pretending to be someone else.

And yet, when she kissed me, I lost myself.

We are mates.

The rage inside me burned hotter than it ever had, but at the same time, I craved her touch like nothing before.

I was a tyrant. Bloodthirsty. Ruthless. I had killed, maimed, and destroyed without remorse. And yet, she... she was the only one who could calm the fury inside me.

It was her touch that brought me back from the edge of madness. Only she had the power to soothe the beast inside me.

This marriage was supposed to be a political game. She was nothing more than a pawn, a piece to move on the board.

Or so I have thought.

Now, the truth is, I’ve never felt anything like this. For her. For Nyla. I’ll show no mercy to anyone who dares harm her.

And the shocking twist? The one causing her pain right now? It’s my true fiancée.

Missing half the story

I don’t understand what happened, but it feels like chapters are missing. Author writes well, but there are times where the wrong name is used and it seems like some things happened that weren’t mentioned. Author should definitely read their own book to figure it out. Had to stop reading when it got to the girl who supposedly approached the Luna about having a thing with the Alpha. Author skipped that and went straight to the Alpha dealing with it.

This story had potential to be really good but it definitely didn't flow super well. It has some major plot gaps and inconsistencies. Maybe some extra character development for Nyla would help, I'm not sure. It has potential though. This review will have spoilers.

For starters, she goes to the Alpha under the name of Serena but there was like one mention of Aaron knowing she was actually Nyla and how angry he was, but they never actually discussed it, its just suddenly referred to later that he knows her history-- sorry but we don't even really know her history-- nor does it fully elaborate, just small snippets of her past, very vague. The rest of the pack also was only supposed to know her as Serena, yet she is constantly referred to as Nyla until suddenly Serena comes back and suddenly no one knows her real name again? There are other gaps too, like how this abused, mistreated girl refers to herself as a spy, and has amazing hacker skills, with no explanation of how our why she got these skills. And all the talk of how Nyla has something they want, and how she needs to be protected, nothing ever comes to fruition from that either. Like this random Julia incident, I expected her to be the inside source or something, but nope, nor do you ever find out who the traitor is. These are just a few inconsistencies 🤷‍♀️ like I said it definitely has potential, but could use some work.

Substitute bride

Generally I give this genre a lot of leeway. I expect it to be mindless entertainment. This one was just so full of plot holes that it was barely understandable. The whole Serena being Nyla reveal to Aaron must have been left on the cutting room floor? All of a sudden everyone calls her Nyla, when they're supposed to think she's Serena. Even after the last chapter reveal, I still don't understand who Nyla's parents were? He was a gamma and they owned a profitable company. So how did the evil stepmother become Alpha like? Why Serena as bride? Then Nyla is a secret hacker computer whiz who can find underground tunnels on her ipad. Then the bizarre time jumps forward and backward, and most of all, who was the guy with the scar??? None of this story makes sense. It was mostly correctly punctuated.

Nyla and Aaron

Terrible and inconsistent writing. No plot and whatever was there was all over the place. For close to half the book, Nyla and Aaron didn’t spend anytime together. They’re married, she moves in with him, he avoids her during the day but likes to snuggle with her at night while she’s asleep. There’s no real effort to get to know each other. There’s no chemistry, no connection. Some days she wakes up and gets that “wow, I haven’t seen my husband in 5 days” realization, but then she goes about her days like it’s normal. They’re together because they’re fated but it’s like they don’t want to be together.

Also he refers to her as Nyla to his pack, but she continues to pretend to be Serena (her sister who flaked on the arranged marriage) and doesn’t want the pack to know she’s really Nyla. But he just ordered his pack to be nice to “Nyla”! It’s a confusing plot point.

Also Nyla wanted this arranged fake marriage because of some specific revenge plan she had but she lost focus (or the author did) and the plan was not mentioned after the first few pages. There’s no plan because there’s no plot.

It’s mostly dual POV from both MCs, then late in the book a chapter with Serena’s POV pops up making it seem like she’s a 3rd main character. I should’ve binned this as DNF but I wanted to write this review on a book I actually read. Such a monumental waste of my precious reading time.

what did I just read?

This book was confusing and jumped backwards and forwards. Aaron didn’t even disclose he knew it was Nyla. I’m confused…..

“Alpha’s Substitute Bride” : Rejected Mate Arranged Marriage Werewolf Shifter Romance. (Runaway Wolf Mate Book 3 of 3)
First off…OH MY WORD! This book is awesome! Now let me tell you a little about why…
We have beautiful and innocent Nyla. Her mother died in a car wreck when she was seven. Then evil (yes evil!) Melona married her father, Gamma of Silver Moon Pack. Shortly after on Nyla’s thirteenth birthday her father dies. Since then she’s basically been a servant to her step mom and stepsister Serena.
Nyla jumps at the chance to stand in and marry Alpha Aaron, the handsome but brutish alpha from The Blue Moon Pack. Instead of Serena, who ran away scared. Nyla has plans for revenge against Melona with the power she gets by marring such a powerful alpha. Reclaiming all her parents had worked so hard for that was taken by Melona.
This book covers so much. There’s murder and more murder. Deception, hate and lies. True mates and juiciness between Nyla and Aaron. So many secrets revealed involving the parents of both Nyla and Aaron. Sad sad truths. Memory Poison and Criatium for memory loss and self control. And in the in justice for both of them too.
This is sooo good! I just loved it, even if it did make me a little sad. Do yourself a favor and read it!👍🏻🥰❤️.

Train wreck of plot inconsistencies like it was written on spurts over a long time with the author changing plot points over and over. Also there’s some missing chapters or something. Horrible mess. The 5 star reviews cannot be real.

I generously gave this book 2 stars. It kept showing up on my Facebook feed and finally downloaded.

Positive - interesting plot, different from typical shifter books = 3 stars

Negative - the names were used interchangeably even when only 2 characters knew Nyla’s real name. This went on for chapters and was extremely frustrating.

Positive - this is, at best, a first draft that had the potential to be a good book.

NYLA is watching as her stepmother is rushing to get the dining room set exactly right. The council is coming and if things go well this visit could boost her status. Her stepsister is in a tizzy. The council arrives and tells her stepmother that her daughter Serena is to be the wife of Alpha Aaron. He is a brutal alpha and it's possible her stepsister would not survive. On the day of the wedding, Serena escapes and NYLA volunteers to replace her. She has been planning this since she heard Councilman Kane suggest NYLA. She has been scheming. She means to use the power he has to get revenge. This marriage would sign the Alliance Deal with the Blue Moon pack.
She gets to the other pack and has to wait an hour before the wedding starts and the groom is no where to be found. But his Beta brings a vial of the alpha's blood to make the bond. Later that night NYLA is in the bathroom and when she comes out she sees a man and realizes it's the alpha. She has words with him and he man handles her to get that attitude out of her. Then he tells her she should kiss her husband. When they kiss she feels an electric shock shoot up her body. He feels the same and then he says Mate. Her wolf is prancing inside her for having a mate. Then he leaves.
AARON's pack needs something that only the other pack has. So his beta convinced him to do the wedding. He was ready to eliminate her when his beta told him that she wasn't Serena. But when they kissed and he discovered she was his mate he was shocked. His wolf is causing him a headache. He keeps shouting in his mind that he wants his mate. He is conducting initiation rituals but with one young male he is ready to strike and NYLA interrupts by pulling the male away. Then she faces the alpha and as he raises his fist to her she grabs his wrist and holds it. Again with the electric shock. She passes out. When she comes to she spies rose petals on the floor. Then one of the female pack members comes to take her to go on a run. She disappears and when NYLA goes to find her she's locked in the radiation room. Aaron finally finds her. He sets his beta, Noah, to find who did it. He also found the threatening note she got. It feels like he is battling rogues and the way Nyla makes him feel.
Will he be able to find who is trying to harm NYLA or will he lose the one who makes him better?
A story that is intense and will have the readers emotions in high drive.

Alpha’s Substitute Bride is the opening title in the Runaway Wolf Mate series, and brings us the extremely complex romance of Nyla and Aaron.

I am so torn about this story. While I think it’s basically a good story full of intrigue, complications, passion, and danger… the delivery frustrated me quite often. From the earlier part of the story, it’s obvious that the wicked stepmother and stepsister are pulling a switch on both Nyla and Aaron, yet Nyla goes along with it for her own reasons. Aaron isn’t fooled, but he senses his mate in the woman masquerading as his intended wife… and this sets him on a rage that is best dealt away from Nyla and his pack. So, her introduction to the pack is very, very questionable; few will trust her, especially if the alpha (her groom) refuses to show up for the ceremony.

Then. Aaron begins referring to her as “Nyla” her real name, not the name of his intended “Serena’, so that everyone in the pack thinks of her as Serena… but Aaron, and the reader will always see her name as Nyla, until, eventually, the switch is revealed to the entire pack at the most dramatic moment. My frustration sets in with a Why? Obviously, Nyla told Aaron at some point about the switch and why it came about. Yet, the reader doesn’t know that; we assume it when Nyla is substituted for Serena constantly. Every time the “wrong” name was used, it took me out of the story. And that frustrates me to no end, and unfortunately, spoiled my personal reading experience by being yanked out of the story constantly with questions.

I believe Alpha’s Substitute Bride by Gertty Rudraw is a good story. My frustrations with it do not take that aspect away. It’s intriguing, passionate, with several plot twists that I didn’t see coming. Do I love this couple? Frankly, no. But they grew on me, and I liked them by the midpoint of their story. This review is only my opinion; your reaction may be vastly different. So, I would suggest that you try Alpha’s Substitute Bride by Gertty Rudraw for yourself and see if it speaks to you.

I highly doubt that I’ll continue this series immediately. I may give the second book in the series a chance in a few weeks, but not just yet.

I read this title through my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

Alpha’s Substitute Bride is an amazing wolf shifter romance which I found to be quite entertaining and an absolute pleasure to read. While reading this book, I was on the edge of my seat with anticipation of seeing what was going to happen next between the main characters. The characters are well developed and beautifully executed throughout the story. Alpha’s Substitute Bride is phenomenally written, exceptionally balanced and beautifully executed by Gertty Rudraw. Gertty Rudraw continues to prove what a brilliant author she is with each book that I have read by her so far. Each book that I have read by Gertty Rudraw has been absolutely phenomenal. Alpha’s Substitute Bride is suspenseful and definitely a page-turning wolf shifter romance. This is the third story in the Runaway Wolf Mate series. The main characters of this story are Aaron and Nyla. The chemistry between these two characters are undeniably irresistible to the point where neither one of them could no longer ignore the pull they felt towards each other. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Aaron and Nyla as well as witnessing their love for one another unfolding throughout the pages of the book. I love that Aaron and Nyla have a happily ever after with them being happily mated. Alpha’s Substitute Bride is definitely a book that I would HIGHLY recommend to anyone who is looking for a new wolf shifter romance book to read. I’m looking forward to seeing what will come next from Gertty Rudraw.

Gertty knocks it out of the park again…

This author has some of the greatest ideas for stories! I think I’ve only read one that I didn’t like…

Okay, this is pretty complicated, per the author’s usual. It’s sort of a Cinderella story, with the evil stepmother and an abrasive stepsister. The stepsister is slated to marry an infamous Alpha as part of a trade deal, but she leaves before the ceremony. The FMC, Nyla, is sent instead. The Alpha knows she’s not the right one because he did his research.

By the time we get to the end, tons of things have happened, not the least of which is memory loss. There’s a final battle with a curse being broken, but I’m still unclear about the Sarge guy. Who was he and why did he attack?

Anyway, this was really interesting and I enjoyed it immensely. KU read and highly recommended for shifter lovers.

The truth hurts for Alpha Aaron and Luna Nyla

This is book one in the series and it is enjoyable and full story romantic story to read. The book begins like Cinderella, where our lead female Nyla is treated horribly by her stepmother and her daughter Serena. They actually moved her bedroom to a closet. Nyla is barely surviving their treatment. The evil stepsister Serena runs away rather than going through with an arranged marriage to Alpha Aaron. This forces Nyla to have to step up and take Serena’s place to marry Alpha Aaron. How will Nyla keep up the rouse? Will the Alpha’s pack figure out the deception? There is a happy ending. Read On!

This was an editing mess!

I'm not sure where to even start. I wanted to like this story and even read it all the way through, but it was painful with all of the plot errors. This was either not edited at all or written with AI. As many other reviewers mention, the writer mixes the use of Nyla and Serena's name up and there isn't even a scene where the deception is addressed between the MC's. There are missing scenes and skipped spans of time. The plot is not carefully built, instead random scenes or ideas are thrown in and many things are not resolved. I truly wish the author will consider pulling this and trying to fully edit and round out the story, then republish.

I gave up reading..
The story is missing many important parts.. So it's hard to understand sometimes.
The people are supposed to know Nyla as Serena, but they still call her Nyla?
It is just a really confusing story, that doesn't make sense a lot of the time.
They fight, but suddenly they can't keep there hands of each other.
And suddenly this or that happens, with no backstory or build up to it.
As I said... confusing.
I felt like I had missed something many times.. and that I had to read the chapters again. I came to 60%, and then I quit.. I couldn't take the confusion anymore.

WOW! This is one heck of a wild and crazy ride for Aaron and Nyla. Aaron and Nyla's marriage is one of a need for alliance but she was not the intended bride. Her stepsister was chosen to marry Aaron, the alpha male. She runs and Nyla takes her place. Aaron is not happy when he discovers the truth but there is a catch; Nyla is his true fated mate. This is a really good story with betrayal, secrets, action, suspense, deception, evil, passion and so much more.

Eh good not great

It was entertaining but there were things skipped or missed. The overall story was good, spice 2/5 but fit the storyline.
I appreciated that even though it was a wolf book and there was a battle, the overall story was not battle heavy which can feel exhausting.
I'm here for the spicy romance after all, so the writer did well at giving it just enough but not too much.

good story

Nice story but a lot of missing pieces. Never answered why Nyla was so important to the hooded man and who the pack traitor was. Confusion in earlier chapters when they call her Nyla not Serena thinking that her secret was already exposed when it was not showing an error in editing. Stating that Aaron was sexually active with many women then later on claiming that he was celibate. Many missed opportunities.

As a replacement for her sister in an alliance marriage, Nya has a lot to survive. With mystery of a villian trying to kill her, the lies told before the wedding, the budding romance within the marriage, and the issues between packs, this is a good story for a shifter love story with a full plot behind it.

This Book 3 in The Runaway Wolf Mate Book Series has paranormal story, a well-crafted world, and interesting characters. These characters have unique personalities, complicated histories, and believable interactions. This story has the following: twists, turns, adventure, action, horrible step-mother, murder, revenge, lies, deception, strength, fated mates, steam and a HEA. A must read.

unsophisticated

I’m hoping that this is an early book from the author. The plot was good, but the dialogue was simple and unimaginative. There were aspects of the characters that should have been deep and meaningful. I never connected to them. I doubt that I will continue this series, but I may look for a more recent book to see if the author rises to their potential.

high hopes

I had high hopes for this book. I I was hooked in the first chapter. How, the further into the book, while hooked, I was often left confused and going backwards to see where I had missed information. Too many plot holes. The author could have made the revels into something huge.

It was all over the place! I stoped at page 81!

Here’s an example: Like when he talks to the pack that they need to respect her and he calls her by her name but there is no mention or question from the FL of how he found out her true identity. Just to many holes in this story that I didn’t want to continue any longer

This book is all over the place. She goes into the pack known as Serena (stepsister) yet pretty quickly they're all calling her Nyla with no explanation. She's randomly a hacker..... Then things happen but you don't read it on page so it feels like parts of the plot are missing. It's a shame as it could be quite good with the bones of the plot being there. It feels like it was never proof read.
