Pagan Alexandria is a fairy tale retelling author best known for her dual retelling of Snow White and The Little Mermaid, KINGDOM OF SIRENS AND MONSTERS.

She grew up in Proserpine, Queensland— a small, Australian country town on the edge of the Great Barrier Reef— when she gained the inspiration for her debut contemporary novel, STUCK ON VACATION WITH RYAN RUPERT (published under P.S.Malcolm).

Pagan quickly realised she had a love of blending contemporary worlds with fantasy, and went on to write a seven book fantasy series, THE STARLIGHT CHRONICLES (signed by Lycaon Press in 2015 and The Parliament House Press in 2017) before walking away from traditional publishing to go completely independent.

Today, Pagan writes dual retellings of beloved fairy tales— filled with star-crossed romance, morally grey characters, supernatural twists and a sprinkle of spice. When isn't writing, she's making charcuterie boards, playing cosy video games, and recording her podcast, Bestseller Energy.

❗️❗️Trigger warning: mentions of blood, death of loved ones (in the past), mild manipulation

Unpopular opinion ahead.
I am sorry, but this one just wasn’t for me. It was not bad, but it focused too much on school and romantic drama for my taste. That is a “me issue” though, and from what I see, everyone else who read this book loved it and gave it 4 or 5 stars. The ideas are good, and the idea of guild hunters hiding among humans and dealing with vampires was interesting, but the execution was lacking.

It was a little jarring to realize that while this is about vampires and vampire hunters, the main character is a student dealing with girls gossiping and teammates not doing their parts in team projects. I was so sure this was a fantasy book that I had to reread the first paragraph twice. Thankfully, only the first chapter happens while the characters are teens because they are very immature and juvenile in this first chapter.

The story then picks up 7 years later, when they are in their early twenties, but still attending the same school. Both Fleur and Percy are vampire hunters, in different guilds, and they still dislike each other. When Percy is turned into a vampire and ends up at Fleur’s apartment, she decides to help him, even though she should kill him, or at least report him to her guild if she does not want to get herself killed.

The first half of the book felt long. It seemed to focus mostly on establishing the fact that Fleur and Percy do not like each other, and quickly showing what their work as vampire hunters looks like. Sadly, though, what was prominent was Fleur’s need to prove that she can be a sexy grown-up and that she was able to handle anything, and this part overshadowed the vampire-hunting aspect of the story. The second half focuses a little more on the vampires, but not that much. Overall, this book was more about school drama than vampire hunting.

Things got interesting in the last 15%. Sadly, though, it was too little, too late for me to get invested in the plot or what happened to the characters at that point.

I struggled to connect with and like the characters. Fleur has been seen as a stickler for rules for her whole life, and she decided at 14 to change the image people had of her. Honestly, though, she is still the perfect little student who often acts holier-than-thou and feels very naïve and whiny at times. Fleur’s friends seemed nice, but they lacked depth for me to connect with them or care about them.

I immediately felt my cheeks heat with anger as I remembered how he’d called me a stickler for the rules. That was not me anymore, and my eyes hardened.

Fleur thinks that she has changed, but she is still the same. She will not skip school, and she listens to everything her mentor Margot tells her. She does not have the confidence to wear sleeveless shirts and does not say the word “panties” because Margot thinks it’s too slutty, but she pretends that she is now a badass?! Then, once Percy starts showing her interest, she changes so quickly! She sexts with him and does dirty things with him in a public place!? Where did that confidence come from?

Percy was even worse. He has no redeeming quality. He still acts like an angry 15-year-old, even though he is supposed to be a little over 20 now. He is an entitled prick, which can be okay if there is a character growth and some meaningful change throughout the story, but he remains an ass. Even when Fleur decides, against all logic, to risk her life and help him, he gets angry at her because she cannot bring him food fast enough or in sufficient quantities. When she asks him for help, he wonders why he should help her when she left him alone in her apartment for the past 2 days and has not provided enough food. The girl is risking everything for him and he continues to be an entitled ass!

“If you even think about getting undressed, you won’t be because I’ll be the one taking this dress off you. And I don’t care about ruining it.”

The romance fell flat. There is nothing between Fleur and Percy, then, suddenly, there are the weird insta-lusty innuendos. Percy sees Fleur in a dress (one that shows her shoulders and arms!) and he starts making “sexy” comments that could have added sexual tension if there was build-up between them. All we know is that Fleur had a crush on Percy (he must be very cute to compensate for his shitty personality) and that Percy treated her like crap for the past 7 years at least, then suddenly he insinuates that he wants to have sex with her, and his eyes are full of desire… He also becomes protective of her, and jumps to her defense whenever he feels that she needs it, when he was the one tormenting her only a few days before.

So, while I was not a fan of this book, the ideas are still interesting, and there are twists in the second half. It has a fast pace, and it is a quick read that other readers who enjoy stories focusing on romantic and school drama more might like more than I did.

I received an ARC copy in exchange for the honest review of Blood Magic by Pagan Alexandria.

I will admit I am not usually a big vampire person but this book may have changed my stance a bit. I was hooked, even though I couldn't read this as fast as I wanted (school), this book was always on my mind. I loved seeing the characters interact. Seeing their trust build was sweet to watch grow. The plot twist at the end was very surprising and I can't wait to see the rest of the story unfold. I would absolutely recommend checking this book out.

👨‍👧 CHARACTERS
This took me straight back to the glory days of Vampire Diaries when characters had depth relationships mattered and every interaction had you clenching your jaw like “oh no they didn’t” For under 400 pages the character work? INSANE Everyone had their own quirks energy and presence Sure a few weren’t as fleshed out but the mains? Solid Well-rounded Living rent-free in my brain And even though I keep saying “this reminds me of Vampire Diaries” let’s be clear none of these characters are copy paste They’re fresh they’re sharp and they’re bringing something new to the table

🌎 WORLDBUILDING & VIBES
This one’s for my girls who live for fangs and feelings The world has that cozy chaos that made Vampire Diaries iconic but this is its own beast It has echoes of that beloved paranormal vibe but it’s got a different heart a different bite and a whole new story to sink your teeth into It’s like nostalgia but evolved

♥️ WHAT I LOVED
BABE I haven’t read anything like this in ages and it reminded me WHY I’m obsessed with paranormal romance! MASTERFUL Enemies to lovers and frenemies that had me giggling kicking my feet and whispering “just kiss already” The teasing was top tier Like yes I love spice but give me the build up the tension the barely there touches that make you scream into a pillow
And the actual scenes? HOT Like genuinely hot
But here’s the kicker the plot and mystery were actually good We weren’t just here for vibes this story had legs Around 50% I fully transformed into a shrieking gremlin And the little details? CHEF’S KISS No lazy conveniences no plot holes you have to squint at It was tight and intentional
It even covered deeper themes that gave it a weight I wasn’t expecting
Also THAT ENDING No one is guessing it Not a soul This is a full on “Metal Slinger twist” moment I gasped I screamed I’m still not okay

💔 WHAT I DIDN’T LOVE
If I’m being picky I think the book could’ve been just a bit longer A little more time to expand the world and let that plot simmer even deeper But honestly that’s me being greedy because I didn’t want it to end

📝 OVERALL THOUGHTS
This is such a strong start to a series and it gave me that thrill I haven’t felt since I first watched Vampire Diaries Like I’m emotionally ruined in the best way and I NEED BOOK TWO IMMEDIATELY That cliffhanger?? I’m not well I am actually SCREAMING This series is about to become my whole personality

I want to start out thanking Pagan Alexandria for reaching out and offering this book as an ARC.
She saw my obsession for MANY vampire books and recommended her new book BLOOD MAGIC, and I couldn't jump into it fast enough!

We are introduced to a world of vampire hunters, Fleur being our FMC. Her rival, Percy, is an annoyance, until one night he arrives at her doorstep with a problem- he has been turned. With Fleur being his only hope, they will set out to find a cure and protect his secret.

The perfect combination of world building and chemistry, we follow Fleur and Percy in their tense beginnings. Their attraction is absolute fire and I feel like I have found my new book boyfriend- text me Percy. 📱

This is perfect for lovers of:
Paranormal Romance
Dark Academia
Forbidden Attraction
Series Lovers ( it's a doozy of a cliffhanger!)

I know this doesn't release for a few months, but I hope Ms. Alexandria is frantically writting the next in series, I MUST know what happens.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ | 🌶️🌶️

This book was a fantastic debut into new adult Romantasy/Paranormal Romance for Pagan!

Things I loved:
🩷 The worldbuilding is unique with an intriguing magic system and multiple magical species that kept my interest piqued.
🩷 The ending was a huge twist that I did not see coming, which I absolutely loved… there’s nothing worse than predicting a twist too early!
🩷 Enemies to reluctant allies to lovers.
🩷 Evil step-mom vibes.
🩷 Plot focused with delicious amount of spice.
🩷Some things that initially irritated me turned out to be clever little easter eggs woven into the plot, which I really appreciate in a book.

Things I didn’t like:
🖤 The spice felt a bit abrupt and somewhat unrealistic, especially given how sheltered the main character is. (Percy’s mouth?? Did not see that coming! But a pleasant surprise nonetheless)
🖤 I found the characters a bit immature at times for my taste and wish there had been more depth to some of them.

Overall, I found this book to be a good start to a series and a great pick for fans of new adult Romantasy and paranormal romance. I’ll definitely be reading the next one!

Thank you to Pagan Alexandra for the ARC. All opinions/reviews are my own and voluntary.

Honestly I went into this book not having many expectations, but I ended up really enjoying it!
This was surprising in many ways, the angst between the main characters was top notch, and the plot was really unique.
The plot twist was totally unexpected and I see now the Rapunzel inspiration!

Fleur is an orphan and a vampire hunter whose father died attacked by a vampire. Margot, the head of Guildwood,- an institution who hunts vampires - took her in and has been her guardian ever since.
Fleur has also had a crush on Percy for ages, but not only he was a jerk to her, but also turns out to be a member of the Salvharks guild, their rivals. When something happened that made them collaborate together, she starts having doubts about everything she knew so far being a lie, and she is determined to find out the truth …

Thank you so much to Pagan Alexandria for the gifted ARC, I am so excited for the next book! 🤩

🌶: I’m very new to reading spicy books, so I don’t really know what spice level to give it. For me, it was absolutely perfect. 10/10.
Tropes:
❤︎ vampire hunter x vampire
❤︎ rivals to reluctant allies to lovers
❤︎ forced proximity
❤︎ forbidden attraction

Blood Magic is exactly the kind of book that I’ve been looking for!
Fleur and Percy are both rival vampire hunters. One evening Percy shows up on Fleur’s doorstep all covered in blood and the next things she knows, she harboring a vampire in her own home and searching for a vampire cure for him.
The worldbuilding is rich, and the dialogue is the most natural and realistic I’ve read in a long time. It all just flows so smoothly.
Fleur is one of the best narrators I’ve come across in months. And Percy is one of the best love interests! I love having a few chapters with his POV sprinkled in. The romance is a slow burn but it’s so worth the wait.
I genuinely don’t think anyone on this planet will see the ending plot twist. I really can’t wait to see where the story will go from here.
Huge thanks to Pagan Alexandra for reaching out and giving me the opportunity to read this ARC!

HOLYYYYYY. this book was not what i was expecting, it was so much more! typically fantasy books set in modern times are a harder sell for me, but Pagan sold it and the kitchen sink. the way she unravelled the story had me obsessively trying to get back to it when life was calling me away.

first, Fleur is me. i am Fleur. i relate to Fleur in so many ways, so i was immediately rooting for her from the start! i can’t wait to see what happens next for Fleur! and Percy 😈 that man is hot as shit.

this was a great combo of plot and character development with laugh out loud moments and an ending that left me staring at the wall for a solid 10 minutes. if you’re a fan of vampires, historical secrets and rivals to lovers, i highly recommend adding Blood Magic to your tbr!

thank you Pagan for an advanced copy of your upcoming book! Blood Magic is out April 15, 2025, and you don’t want to miss this!

“I hated him...
But I felt ten times worse when I realized I was actually hating myself—the person I was and the person I was too afraid to change.”

“I didn’t want me out of her system. I wanted to consume her entire system. I wanted her to think of me every second of the day.”

“I see something in you that you won’t show to anyone. Even I’m not quite sure what it is yet. But I want to see and know all of you—not just the persona you put up in front of”

DAMN I ATE THIS UP.

I want to start with a huge thank you to Pagan for sending me this ARC, and this review was given honestly and without compensation!

I don’t have a tons of quotes from this book and that is absolutely not due to there not being any highlights on my kindle, but for the sole fact that Percy and his dirty mouth would get me kicked off this app for what he says and how much I love it. The way the spice in the book was handled was RIGHT up my alley.
Consent? ✅
Obsessive jealous man✅
Yea that’s really my only conditions to liking the spice but still, Pagan did them both so phenomenally well it had me literary kicking my feet giggling.

I also have so absolutely praise the women friendships in this book. I do prefer when there are conflicts between women that aren’t solely over men, however this in fact passes the Bechdel Test, and the way Winona and Darcy show up for Fleur in her time of need was heart warming.

Such a side note but the way the greanche wine was described I immediately want to try it and will be buying a bottle.

At times the pacing felt slightly off and that’s truly the only reason for the .5 star deduction. Between that and the instance like the end where *(redacted)* is with our FMC and MMC and neither of them seem overly concerned about her knowledge/involvement with what they were doing.

Aside from that I truly was obsessed with this book and will actually be pacing a hole in my floor waiting for book 2

One of the easiest 5 star ratings I've ever given. Let's talk about it:

The writing style alone is worth noting. Smooth, consistent, engaging.

The plot of this book was amazing. The world building is continuous, and it grows as the characters grow.

While primarily Fleur's POV, we get the occasional sprinkle of Percy and they are perfectly timed for us to get even just a little glimpse and round the story out.

I absolutely love these two. The push/pull of their attraction gives that real enemies (or at least rivals) to lovers. Watching them grow was extremely satisfying even if it was mixed with a ton of chaos.

I was sitting in anticipation for nearly the full book. We knew that there was so much just waiting to happen but we never knew enough to know what exactly we were waiting for.

This is the kind of book that lets your mind wander into multiple theories, and let me tell you what....I didn't see that ending coming in a million types of theories!

I am SO excited to see where Book 2 takes us and what kind of trouble Fleur finds for herself in.

Overall: highly recommend

*cue the SOMEBODY SEDATE ME greys anatomy meme*

YALL I’m unwell, someone get me the holy water. As someone who has been OBSESSED with vampires since birth, Blood Magic gave me everything I crave. It’s giving forbidden love with tension so thick you could slice it with a stake. And the Romeo and Juliet vibes but with vampire hunters and rival guilds?! WOAH I’m lightheaded, it’s that good.

Fleur and Percy’s dynamic had me concerned at first but Pagan wrote a vampire MMC that rivals Edward and suddenly… I think I’m straight now? The angst? Delicious. The YEARNING? Devastating. The unraveling secrets? I gasped out loud. Also- so for real, I just love a heroine trying to resist falling for the one thing she’s been told to destroy.

Pagan, babe, you have compelled me (and if this wasn’t fiction and you have insider vampire knowledge… blink twice. I’m ready).

If you love broody, yearning love interests, life-altering secrets to untangle, and a romance that has some of the spiciest spice I’ve read all year, you need to pick up Blood Magic. You won’t be disappointed. (Seriously someone DM me about that texting scene, I need someone to talk to about it!!!)

Thank you very much to the lovely Pagan Alexandria for letting me read this book early. I’m not the same after this one. I’m off to go lie in the dark and emotionally recover from the cliffhanger. Five stars + infinity.

Omg, this was even better than I imagined! Absolutely addictive! 😍

The story follows Fleur, a vampire hunter from the Guildwoods group. Fleur has always had a crush on Percy, a vampire hunter from the Salvharks. But they have also always been enemies, since both vampire hunter factions have different views on how to treat and kill vampires. Everything changes when one night, Percy suddenly shows up at Fleur’s doorstep — covered in blood… and with fangs.

This story was so well-written and kept me hooked from start to finish. I immediately liked Fleur, even though I sometimes wished she’d stand up for herself a little more. Still, she was an absolute badass. Percy was completely swoon-worthy 😍 He’s such a fun, layered character, and I loved watching the change in their dynamic and relationship.

The story itself was easy to follow, yet incredibly engaging and spooky. It gave me all the gothic vibes, which I adore! It included a bit of spice — yes, please 🤭 — and the revelations and plot twists were not only great but also cleverly thought out.

It ends with such a cliffhanger — I’m desperate to read the next book!

I’d definitely recommend this one, especially for vampire lovers who enjoy enemies-to-lovers tropes with a good dose of spice.

★★★★☆ - 4 stars

This ARC was provided in exchange for an honest review.

Two rival vampire hunting guilds. A vampire hunter that falls in love with a vampire. Two rivals working together. Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel retelling. This book couldn’t get any better!!

Once I started reading this book I couldn’t put it down, and every time I did, I kept thinking about it.

Fleur is trying to prove her worth and through that journey she finds her true identity. She was an interesting character, sometimes a little naive but the moment she started to ask questions I knew she would have a better judgment.

In the beginning, I didn’t like Percy, at all, but as we kept reading he grew on me. He started to get Fleur better, having her back and helping her. I loved that he always respected Fleur and Margot’s relationship even if he saw right through it.

Both characters were a little immature but I think they can develop in the next book.

The tension and bickering between Fleur and Percy was so good! And I loved the spicy chapters.

The plot was really interesting too, a great balance between romance and the plot. I loved the supernatural beings, we have vampires and witches, but also other beings that were so cool.

The ending left me speechless and I can’t wait to read the next book!! I need answers right now!!

If you love vampires, spicy romantasy, enemies to lovers, and murder mystery mixed this is for you!

Please do yourself a favour and READ THIS.

This was such a wild ride - I’m actually in shock. My emotions are literally all over the place after finishing this. How do I even form proper sentences and thoughts to review this properly and give this book the hype it deserves? I’m going to try my freaking hardest here.

First of all the story flowed so well, it was easy to grasp and even easier to get lost in this because I had issues putting it down to do regular activities- I started and finished this in less than 24 hours, ladies and gents. That’s a sign that it’s damn good.

In this world there are two hunter clans, they don’t necessarily intermingle, it’s forbidden. Our FMC Fleur has had a crush on our MMC Percy for years, and Percy is kind of douchey towards her. Fleur is more of a follow the rules type of gal, and that makes her an easy target for Percy. Until Percy needs her help more than anyone.

The tension, the forced proximity had me covering my face and reading through my fingers like a damn 12 year old girl- and I read Smut on the regular ok. This man has a way with words 🥵 😅

The ending had me literally gasping for air because I did not see it coming, I had alternative theories but it went totally in the opposite direction I was thinking, I wouldn’t have been able to guess that, honestly.

I’m so excited for book two, I need more immediately

My favourite quotes teasing you with only 3 of like the obscene amount I saved…

“I’ll be the one taking this dress off you. And I don’t care about ruining it.”

“Because later, I plan on showing you every dirty thought that has been roaming through my mind these past few weeks.”

“By the time I’m finished with you, you’ll beg me for mercy.”

There is going to be a sequel!?

Pagan Alexander reached out to me and offered me an ARC, thank you so much you did!

I haven’t read anything by Pagan Alexander, this was my introduction to her writing and I want to read all her books now! Me loving fairytales and (secretly) loving Barbie movies I think I’ve found a new favourite author. I was in a bit in a reading slump before I started reading Blood Magic and it pulled me out of it!

I do have to admit that I didn’t expect the story to set in the 21st century (because I was thinking of Barbie’s Rapunzel). I had to get used to it, but I fortunetely quickly adjusted.

I liked the story overall, and I don’t want to mention spoilers so it’s harder for me to write a review. I liked the writing, I liked the characters and the world building.
I wish the characters were a bit more rounded, but I do realise that the story is set in a shorter timeframe so developing slowly is normal. I do like thát Fleur develops at all since I feel like I miss that in a lot of stories.

I didn’t know it was going to be a duology so I was a tad stressed about nearing the end of the book and that I needed so much more information but I’ll gladly wait for the next one!

I had such a good time with this one! It’s a vampire story that’s also has Rapunzel and Sleeping Beauty vibes! Fleur is a trained vampire hunter who lost her father to a mysterious death when she was 6. Taken in my Margot and trained for her whole childhood to slay vampires, she makes it her life mission to find the vampire responsible for her father’s death. Percy is her fierce competition from another vampire hunter house, secret childhood crush, and most annoying acquaintance. When a hunt takes a sudden turn, the two are forced to work together in search of answers to secrets and an elusive vampire cure. Falling for the enemy was NOT in the plan. Neither was found powers. Alliances shift, secrets reveal true characters, and a hidden reality comes to light. This story ends on a cliffhanger, but boy is it a fun ride! Many thanks to the author, Pagan Alexandria, for the ARC. These opinions are my own.

One of my favorite little micro tropes is when the MMC tells the FMC ‘there you are’. Like they can see who they really are deep inside of them that no one else sees or understands. I’m utterly obsessed with it… and this book has that 🥹🙌🏻🖤

I enjoyed this read. It’s kind of double enemies to lovers because first they are competing vampire hunters and then one becomes a vampire while the other is still a vampire hunter.
I will say that this did feel slightly YA at times in the way it read but I’m not mad at it. This was entertaining the whole time. I loved that I never really knew what would happen next and had no idea how it would end. Also, Percy and the things he says… 🔥🔥! Im super curious to read the next installment 😊 Thank you to the author for reaching out and letting me read a copy! 🖤

Blood Magic by Pagan Alexandria was such an unexpectedly magical read in a world brimming with vampires, witches, and all manner of spiritual beings. I was instantly hooked by the dueling vampire-hunting guilds and the layers of mystery surrounding Fleur’s upbringing.

Fleur, as our FMC, was a bit frustrating at times with her lack of confidence made me want to shake her, but I have a feeling her character growth will really shine in book two. Percy, on the other hand, completely stole the show. Cocky, confident, and oh-so-alluring, his silver-tongued words of praise had me grinning (if you know, you know).

Overall, Blood Magic delivered a delicious mix of intrigue, danger, and supernatural charm. I can’t wait to see where Fleur and Percy’s story goes next.

AND PICK UP MY JAW!

Pagan! What did you put in this book because I DEVOURED IT AND I NEED MORE!

I love the modern day setting with vampires and magic! And from the beginning I was hooked!

I love Fleur and everything she stands for. She’s a woman that’s broken, held back, and lied to, and she’s trying to find who she is! While also trying to navigate the vampire hunting world.

Percy…🔥😮‍💨 man oh man! Do we all need a Percy🤣 that’s all I should say.

I’m so grateful I had the privilege to read Blood Magic and I need the next book NOW🤣 It’s addictive, intense, and the cliffhanger is going to ruin me!

I have to say I’m kicking myself in the hiney for leaving this on my TBR for so long! Thank you Pagan for reaching out asking if I’d be interested in arc reading!

I have no idea what I was expecting from this book but it delivered all that and so much more. I was sucked in immediately and could not put this book down, I had to but it was begrudgingly to take care of adult responsibilities.

I really enjoyed Fleur and Percy both separately and together. Their banter they tension everything had me feeling all the feels. Fleurs friendships are so special.

Can we scream pining and yearning. Just wow. And the way relationships are built in this book solid work. Also ridiculously well done all the plot twists. I can say I saw one thing coming but it was layered in with something I would have never guessed.

I enjoyed the setting too, I didn’t feel like I was reading about young adults in college even though I know they were exactly that. I felt like I could connect with each character in some way. This book really made me feel a lot of different things and in the best ways.

I enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read the next!

5/5 star for me.

Possibly the most compulsively readable book I’ve read in a long, long time. I had such a fun, wild ride following these two rival vampire hunters. Where is the sequel?!

In truth, I am the ideal reader for Blood Magic because it has a lot of components I really enjoy but I am so here for bringing vampires back! Fleur is part of the Guildwoods vampire hunters and her long-time crush and now irritating rival Percy becomes in need of her help when he becomes a vampire himself. Fleur has to help him, compelled by him to keep his secret, and so unfolds a hunt for blood, answers and an unenviable level of self control on all fronts.

There’s really incredible pacing, likeable characters (some you hate to like but you do it anyway!), enough magic and intrigue to keep you guessing and actually what I appreciated the most was I really thought that I had everything figured out - cocky, cocky - and then “hello 👋🏻 “ plot twist. I did not have it figured out, oh not at all.

It really reminded me of some of my guilty pleasure reads; the days of binge reading Julie Kagawa’s Immortal Rules long into the night are very far gone now, but honestly this took me right back to that level of compelling reading that had me up way past my, now adult (i.e infinitely earlier!), bedtime.

It’s awesome being asked to read an ARC, particularly when you enjoy it as much as I have this one, but what a double edged sword when the book ends on THAT cliffhanger! Really excited for the next one. Literally NO idea where this will take us.

Fleur and Percy are rival vampire hunters who despise each other. But after an incident where Percy needs help, Fleur is the only one he can turn too. Fleur makes a deal with Percy in hopes of finding out who killed her father. This story was so fun and addicting. I couldn’t put it down. I need book two asap!

4.5 ⭐️
1-1.5 🌶 slowwww burn, SOOO worth it

*Avoiding spoilers*

This was my first ARC read, and it did not disappoint! I started Blood Magic less than 24hrs ago, and if it weren't for my need to wake up early, I would have finished it in one sitting!!

This book took me back to the Buffy the Vampire days of my early teen years. It honestly felt like I was transported back to the magic of the show and why I loved it so much. I truly couldn't put this book down. The MCs are very likable. The villain of the plot was perfectly placed. The way I gasped at how evil this person was in the later chapters!!! I wanted to crawl into this book and slap the person lol. When a book can keep your attention like this, remind you of stories/shows you loved, and also elicit emotions where you want to defend the MCs, you KNOW it's good!

Not every book is perfect, I do have a few extremely minor things that (I feel) could be changed up. When we learn that this is a vampire book, there isn't any lead up. It's just *BAM* "VAMPIRES EXIST." Not because something happened to inform us, but because it's told to us bluntly like it's another Sunday afternoon. I guess a build-up or maybe an occurrence for it to unfold vs. just flat out stating it would have been a nice addition.

The next, again, extremely minor thing is when the MCs have some texting action, Fleur mentions she wants Percy's hand over her mouth to hide her moans and the very next sentence she wants his mouth on hers. So, are we covering her mouth or are we kissing her? I guess she could have meant she wants both... This is totally me nitpicking. I don't know why, but thus stuck out to me and just bugged my brain for a minute lol.

Lastly, not a huge fan of the ch. 30-31 disappearing-painting plot. I'm trying to be a little vague to not spoil anything. I don't like the idea of spinning off this way. I'm extremely curious to see how book 2 runs with this. I will 100% be reading the next book!!!

I also immediately need the physical of this as a trophy for my bookshelves lol.

Do not sleep on this book!! I couldn't put it down! It was one of those books where you just need to know what happens next and the next thing you know it's 3am and you have to be awake at 7am but you need to read just one more paragraph!! With tropes like vampire/vampire hunter and rivals to lovers, I was instantly interested but I never would've guessed how much I was going to love this story!

What starts with a classic rivals to lovers trope turns into a complicated, twisting and turning story filled with dark secrets and betrayal. The author describes it as a sleeping beauty meets rapunzel retelling and it takes a bit to understand why but when you do, OH MY GOSH!

Thank you so much to the author for reaching out and offering me an ARC to read. You got yourself another lifetime reader.

WTF!! I didn't see any of the twists coming!!
First of all, the author reached out to me and gave me an ARC for this pretty vampire book! I have to admit that the setting felt a bit boring for the first 15% or so, but THEN it started to get interesting! The writing is fast and easy to read!

Fleur is a vampire hunter, she is shy and deadly! I like that she is fearless when it comes to hunting but completely clueless about real social life!

Percy is also a vampire hunter from a different guild than Fleur's, so we got a rivalry going on, then he becomes a vampire! I didn't like him in the beginning, until he turned, he was insufferable, but then his retorts and the flirtatious talks he has with Fleur got me so happy! Especially the texting thing! IYKYK!

So, vampires, witches, and apparently other supernatural creatures that we don't know about! I have to admit that i didn't expect what Fleur is, or the twist at the end! I'm excited for the next book!

Favourite scene is the library scene between Percy and Fleur ❤️🔥 that was so hot!

3.5 ⭐️ One day, a vampire hunter named Percy, from another group, that Fleur had a crush on, made her feel bad about herself, so 7 years later of course she still hates him. Until he turns up on her doorstep in transition to becoming a vampire. Percy was bitten by a vampire that he saved Fleur being attacked by. Feeling very guilty Fleur agrees to help him hide from all the other vampire hunters that he’s now a vampire. At first she still hates him, but as time goes on and they actually start getting to know one another and feelings are definitely there. Her guardian, Margot, who took her in after her father was killed, won’t allow her access to information about how her dad died, and doesn’t allow her to dress or look anything other than modest. But as Percy assists Fleur in gaining self confidence and branching out, they start discovering that perhaps Margot is hiding things, like a cure for vampirism. They start falling for each other, and make a plan along with their friends to break into her hunting groups library, in the hopes of finding information about her father, and a cure for Percy. It turns out that her friend Winnona is actually a witch, which comes in handy considering they believe they need witches blood to access the secret library. But when the witches blood doesn’t work, Percy decides to use Fleur’s blood. Which scarily does work. He believes this is because Fleur is secretly a succubus. The next thing you know they touch a magic rune on the wall, and are transported to Fleur’s childhood home. A giant mural of their town is on the wall. Percys mysterious uncle turns up, and tells them that they’ve actually been living inside a painting for the last seven years, this was done in an attempt to hide Fleur, because she’s actually the cure.

While the idea and premise of the story is interesting and moves smoothly through the narrative, the major downside is the characters are immature. They are in their early 20s but it feels as if you’re reading a novel about characters in their mid to late teens. The innocence and dramatisation of minor things comes across as immature. As the relationship between Fleur and Percy builds and turns sexual, thankfully this immaturity does lessen, but is still present in the ideation and reaction to events of the characters. This takes away from the overall feeling of the book. As the book is shorter in length it’s not surprising the characters aren’t very deep, we don’t really know much about them outside what’s actively happening in the storyline. At about 50% when the relationship between Fleur and Percy starts actually building it does become more enjoyable but it still feels like we don’t know who these characters really are at their core.

One the relationship between Fleur and Percy starts, it’s really enjoyable. Percy is kinda filthy and I’m here for it, I really enjoyed how once the walls between them started coming down he was so upfront with her about how he felt and what he wanted. The conflict Fleur feels about their relationship and the impact it will have on everything else is well written and deep in its active process.

Watching Fleur become her own person, more independent of Margot’s rules was a really enjoyable element of character growth - obviously this has all been for a reason. As well as the revelation that she’s a succubus and the link that explains why Margot has treated her so modestly through her life. Percy’s acceptable and encouragement of Fleur is really beautiful and helps to develop their relationship well.

There’s some plot holes here. Like what the hell katrina had to do with anything, not a single element of ground work was done in term of her involvement, assume she has a reason for being there that we will learn, but at the moment it’s coming across as a waste of a character. Also there not element of indication as to why Fleur needs to be hidden as the cure. I’m not saying we need complete explanations for these things as they must be coming in later books, but at this point there’s not a single indication of anything and it just feels like a black hole of information.

The story was generally enjoyable and has promise to develop well
