The Savage Six #2

Savage Desire

Rate this book
I knew this place held secrets, but I don’t know if I’m ready for the truth.

I’ve come to find that knowledge is both a blessing and a curse as I leave behind my sheltered imprisonment to embrace the hope for a future at Trinity Falls Academy. And yet with answers come more questions than I can possibly keep track of.

For the first time in my life, I’m prioritizing myself, a luxury I’ve never been able to embrace until now. But that selfishness introduces a new problem I never saw coming … a battle between what my mind needs and what my heart desires.

Distractions are something I can’t afford, especially in the form of four irresistible wolves. My choices hang on the edge of the knife as the clock of the curse continues to tick.

I need to decide who I can trust and, more importantly, who I can’t or I’ll never make it out alive.

Man, I have NO IDEA why I thought reading book 2 would be any better than book 1, but it wasn't: it was worse. Again, not much in plot development happened until the last 30%. I just can't continue on. What a cool idea made so bad by poor execution, a weak FMC, bland MMC's and stunted writing.

Everyone in the story acts like they are 12-15, not in their earlier 20's.

Also, in addition to the author copying some of the broader elements of the Harry Potter series in book one, we get another addition to "didn't i read this in HP?"
There's a room with keys that all float around and they need to find the right key. *rolls eyes*

As for the people in this book?
The one MMC rapes her in the bathroom. She keeps saying no, but he doesn't care.
Another MMC also refuses to respect her boundaries, and touches her anytime he wants and refuses to allow her personal space.
The other MMC keeps having sex with her, while telling her he hates her and then when someone asks if she is sad about it, she says "maybe."
All of the MMC's say that she is resilient, strong and feisty. What girl are they fucking? Because it's not the FMC. She is the most weak willed, weak in personality and weak in character that I have ever seen.

Author needs a new set of editors because these ones are failing her hard. There was no direction to this book, comma splices were out of control, nicknames are still being formatted incorrectly and there's some general formatting errors that should not be in this book. The author has a large enough catalog that readers shouldn't be subjected to half-assed editing.

Frequency in word repetition:
Midnight: 15
Little: 140
Gape: 40
Murmur: 54
Mutter: 58
Silver: 70
Grumble: 40

Forget the clit, this FMC is the actual bundle of nerves. ‘His tone chills my bones, horror floods my veins, panic claws at my throat.’ All in one interaction?
Get it together!! It’s so exhausting and extra.
Why can’t she handle anything in a satisfying way?

Petition to eradicate this author’s use of ‘lips.’
210!
Two hundred and ten times ‘lips’ are mentioned.
2-1-0.
A hundred, then a hundred more, and then ten extra to ensure you make it all the way to insane.

Everyone also says her name too much when speaking to her. ‘You have a lot to learn, Polaris… Tell me, Polaris… Learn to fight, Polaris…”
How am I meant to forget her awful name if you keep reminding me of it?

They’re all way too immature to be enrolled in a sex fest. Middle school level taunts and emotional reactions that are more pathetic than realistic.

Nothing flows or makes sense. None of it. One of the main rules was not to ever miss classes, but she’s blacking out and missing entire school days without censure.

The very obvious reason for those episodes rocks up like he’s entitled to her yet continues to wipe her memories and leave her places like passed out in the friggin rain?

It’s creepy and as unappealing as the sudden light bdsm relationship developing with the character she’s spoken to maybe once prior. The one who refuses to use a condom even when asked!

This is just not good, and I have a hard time seeing how it could be considered otherwise.

You’re joking!!! The endings are such big cliff hangers! Honestly this one gets a five star purely for the vibes. It goes without saying this is just a book for the girlies who need straight up smut. So if your thing is vampires, werewolves and witches, smut and magic…this book is for you!

FMC has no self respect for herself

Despite her being ridiculously angsty and “discerning,” she will let the people treat her like trash so long as they’re handsome enough.

“my jaw falls slack-“ PICK UP YOUR DAMN JAW YOU DROP IT AN AVERAGE OF SIXTY TIMES AN HOUR. sorry that is so infuriating to me because why are we gaping so much? never in my life have i ever had such a visceral reaction that my jaw dropped MULTIPLE times a day. i don’t even have a weekly jaw-drop. like what is this. the main character’s jaw drops when she sees people walking, when she looks in the mirror, when she touches sand, when someone accidentally shoulders her in the hallway, i mean the list goes on. at this point i’m asking was her mouth ever closed in the first place? is this perpetual jaw-dropping shock disorder? ugh it annoyed me.

the good:
i really liked the pacing, i wasn’t confused about the time and the story didn’t feel rushed or like it was dragging on. i also like blaze’s character; his mysterious love interest aspect was one of the reasons i didn’t dnf this book. i liked how smart polaris was. her inner dialogue showed that she thought things through, like i was surprised she figured out the blaze making her forget things thing. normally authors would make “smart” fmcs not realize obvious details just for an ass plot twist fifty pages later. so i liked that. blaze and asher’s scenes. girllll the stuff they said would make a granny’s panties twist so bad she’d have to take them off (me).

the bad:
lack of character depth. these character just have no personality. like yeah, they’re distinguishable, but they’re very surface level. it made it hard to get into and im really not connected to any of the characters. i feel like lincoln is portrayed badly and polaris is too timid to even have a personality. what got me into this book was her attitude in the prologue, growing up at florentine’s, but she immediately lost any flippantness the minute she got to school. suddenly she’s a blushing mess and doesn’t really make valid arguments. the amount of times she’s “gaped” at someone is actually bizarre. if i have to read “my jaw fell slack” or “i gape at…” one more time im gonna lose it. she also ran away an embarrassing amount of times. like i get having a panic attack and needing space, but damn this girl just broke off into sprints all the time. like can you imagine how awkward that is, like you’re in a group of people and this chick just starts sprinting away, on the DAILY. like ho are you constantly about to get a parking ticket or do you need a therapist? also—while the whole asher’s uncle thing was intriguing, it wasn’t really brought up in a way that made it suspenseful. like i couldn’t care less? sorry? i’m just gonna sprint away now.

i really enjoyed the last page of this book, so i was gonna rate it 4 stars, but it was the LAST page. blaze is carrying this series. i’m gonna continue but im not sold on finishing all four books. it’s just too boring. i need polaris to step it up badddd, then maybe i’ll lock in on these books a little better. we’ll see about the next one.

Good read

I enjoyed this book. Some things were explained like about the coin she had. Lincoln has a coin. He’s still hot and cold in this book. Blaze the vampire seems to have a hot and cold attitude towards her too. He fights with Declan in this book, killing him which in turn killed Lucille. The Centre witch from the renegades coven. She was “invited” to join, and they were going to force her magic to come to the surface so they would know what type of witch she would be. Polaris didn’t want to do that, she wanted the choice of it and they weren’t giving it to her. She finally gets away, and the backlash from other witches and her witch teacher didn’t take it to kindly. Thankfully Bryony still wants to be her friend even though she’s part of the Renegades coven. She’s told no coven would want her after her bangles came off, her being a Centre. She has no family line that she knows of but being a Centre she’s super powerful. Lucille was Declan’s blood curse kin so the fight Blaze had with Declan caused the death of the Centre witch Lucille. Now, this Renegade coven has no centre witch. Bryony finds out she’s a centre, we still dont know how she knows but she confronts Polaris and is hurt that she didn’t trust her enough to tell her. Bryony hurt her for not sticking up for her during the “invite” to the Renegades coven so she’s iffy on her trust. Shes always had her choices taken away from her, especially at Florentines so having a choice is super important.
Polaris keeps losing time, and we still suspect a vampire. Probably Blaze, at least he’s not bullying her anymore. During the fight he had with Declan, Polaris is basically losing it, her heart hurts, her anxiety is through the roof, she’s crying and she mumbles things like she thinks Blaze is her blood curse kin, or maybe a mate. After the fight is over she seems to forget what she was saying. Her wolf friends think maybe it’s her magic and nothing else. So it was confusing between what she was scared for and what they think was happening. I completely believe he is her blood curse kin. It just makes sense. Lincoln, can’t stand that he has feelings for Polaris. Wylder and Tatum have hearts in their eyes when they think about her, when they see her they feel a compulsion to be touching her. It’s a physical need. Asher is getting there. She watched Wylder fight in a big fight night that he demolished his opponent. Instead of Wylder getting his happy ending, Ascher took her upstairs to the VIP area and basically seduced her. He has a bigger role in this book, same with Tatum. All of the Wolf alpha pack seems to be interested in Polaris, even though she’s not a wolf. Bianca an omega that’s been promised to the alpha wolf pack is upset with all the attention on her and tries to warn her off. Polaris is matched with Bianca during combat class. At this point Polaris still doesn’t really have the confidence so when Bianca rushes her and knocks her down, all Polaris is trying to do is protect her head while getting beaten. At this point is when she remembers a memory of her dad telling/teaching her, to think, is this a learning moment, or is it a fighting moment. This is when Polaris starts to fight back and isn’t afraid to come out on top. She knocks Bianca away and basically round house kicks her in the head knocking her out. When she sees Bianca’s eyes roll to the back of her head, she freaks out and runs off to puke in the bathroom. Polaris is starting to learn and grow a backbone. Which is sorely needed. She’s constantly overwhelmed. Always needed space and a moment to “process”. It’s getting old so it was refreshing to see her start to defend herself. She never does it seems but I’m hoping this is a turning point for her. Minnie is constantly trying to be her friend and boy did Polaris need someone in her corner. Minnie smacks her brother Lincoln and the other guys when they upset her. Especially when she found out the guys refused to give her any information when she found a black feather and a warning on her bed from “the crow”. Which is Asher’s uncle. He’s a bad dude, bargaining with those in desperate need. After they refuse to talk to her about the feather Polaris leaves and is so pissed off at all of them. Bryony isn’t talked about much in this book since Lucille died at the beginning and the renegade coven is in turmoil. So Minnie was the one that she turned to when she didn’t need to “process”. I’m so thankful for Minnie. It’s talked about how each supernatural race doesn’t mix. They are segregated and it’s frowned upon. Polaris reads about the start of the curse in this book and it’s talked about how the witch had mates from each of the supernatural races. And the original witches last name was Champ. And Polaris last name is Beauchamp. I suspect that Polaris being a centre witch will be able to break the curse since she has a coin from the mates that broke the heart of the original witch. Can’t wait 4 more.

HOLYFRIGGINMOLY I am OBSESSED & CONSUMED BY THIS WORLD!

Welcome back to Trinity Falls Academy, and it's not for the faint-hearted instantly you're thrown back into this world, and honestly, I've never been more excited to devour a book

I have never been so glad to buddy read a book in my life because, hotdamnit my mind, my mind is racing with theories and thoughts!!

I said it in book one, and I was so damn right I can feel deep in my bones... this is going to be a series I can not get enough of! 😍

That ending had my heart slimming racing with questions that i just need answering. KC Kean is a friggin queen when it comes to these worlds and cliffys she creates, and im allfrigginforit.

Damn these wolfs are soul consuming, and yet each of them play such a vital part in the story, and let me tell you. They will steal your friggin heart, leave you swooning and drooling all at the same time. The passion, intensity, mystery, and emotions will leave you reeling.

Honestly, I have so many thoughts that I just can't navigate at the moment as I'm floored by this book and where this is going to go!! Utterly speechless what a phenomenal series so far.

Mysteries, men and magic!
Oh my gosh flew through this book as just couldn’t put it down - I needed to know what happens asap! There’s a lot happening in this book, it is fast paced but easy to follow and with good depth 😀
It picks up immediately in the aftermath of the last book and Lincoln certainly has a lot to answer for in his actions - and it doesn’t appear he’ll be doing that in this book either 😬 Tatum proves he’s a friend she can rely on even if there’s more between them; Wylder is the one not afraid to show the rest of the academy what she means to him…things are hitting up for our newly awakened FMC 🔥🔥🌶️ and then there’s Asher the domineering wildcard who may be obsessed with Silver but bring a whole other heap of trouble 😣 Polaris is learning more about herself and her magic as a witch and her type, which she’s hoping may be able to help with her mysterious black outs…although that whole dilemma may just be exactly who she needs after that cliffhanger 😯😯

So I read this as soon as it released apparently… then sat like a bump on a frog after the third book released. What the heck was I doing with my life!!! Idk but I got two and tree and re-read book two today. I’m about 15% in on book three now and let me tell you. The action is actioning. The friendships are blooming and who the HECK is the mystery man?? I’ll never tell! lol but of course, another cliffy!!! Be sure to take all your anxiety meds before reading the ending because it cuts!! I’ll drop book three review probably tomorrow. I’m kinda sad I got into these now when book four won’t come till August! But I’ll probably just read them all again when it drops. I finally got around to ordering the first two for hard copy on my book shelf so they will stay near and dear! Happy reading friends!!

Girl with untreated anxiety and doggy Stockholm syndrome struggles with severely chapped lips and rubs lips together all day long while skipping “How to Be a Witch 101” classes.

If I never read “rubs her lips together” again then I will die happy. That exact wording was used TWENTY times. With tiny variations, it was used much more. Started to drive me insane. Her lips must be SO CHAPPED.

FMC is a moron. Plot barely progresses until some super random task at the end. There are no cliffhangers because everything is so blatantly obvious. The MMCs are pretty much exactly the same.

TW: Some mild dubious consent

Wow... Just wow

I have read so many of these types of books but KC Kean has yet again for me hooked!
The character building, the plots, sub plots etc.... Just wow!
To say in am excited for the next books is an understatement. By far one of my favourite RH supernatural books.
Even the erotic scenes are extremely tasteful.
The whole world is amazing and IF the world can open their minds to RH more then this could be an incredible Netflix series.
The diary entries are a superb way to show the FMC's development

This book in the series is BETTER.
The characters are better, pieces of the puzzle start clicking into place, and I was on the edge of my seat the WHOLE time.
Be warned, there is a cliffhanger but I am so thankful we only have to wait 2 months until the next one.

I’m really enjoying this series - the plot and romance are building slowly but I’m invested in watching each relationship develop so the speed isn’t bothering me. What a cliffhanger! Can’t wait to get more plot nuggets.

5 starts for the plot, but as a romanian reading Blaze calling her Amica mea is such a turn off. I think the author meant for him to call her my love? Which will be "Iubirea mea". Amica mea means my friend, and it's used for friends that aren't actually closed.

This was so hard to get through. The more of this series I read, the more that the fun and interesting parts are dwindle and can no longer prop up the non-existent world or plot holes. What do you mean she doesn't know what an elevator is, but somehow knows what cell phones and speakers and music are? Where is this school located? How are they instantly traveling places? How does the magic work or feel... It's completely baseless and ungrounded.

On top of this, the FMC is excruciating and insufferable. That doesn't even touch on the weird copy-paste personalities and internal dialog of most if not all of the MMCs. speaking of dialog, some of the most painfully awkward and unnatural sounding dirty talk I've ever read. I had to skim the steamy bits because they were awkward and uncompelling with nary a stab at making any kind of actual connection between the characters.

Maybe a 2.5

But doubtful I’d go that high. I’m less than half way through and already so incredibly irritated by it. Not positive I can force myself to continue.

Pros
Editing seems to be good so far. No glaringly obvious grammatical errors to throw you out of the story.
Story line is a bit more original than the majority of books in this genre at this point. Though not really sure where it’s leading so that could change very quickly at any point.

Cons
1. The nick names. Why is it that so many books in this genre require the love interest to come up with a super lame nickname that they use constantly for the MFC? They tend to be really bad in most books. These so far are just embarrassing. For the author. Little witch. Ok fine, not the worst.
But Midnight? Silver? Good lord. So much cringe every time it’s used I almost expect to find Fabio on the book cover.
2. MFC is as bright as a pile of lint. I forgot how bad it was in the first book.
Like the diary thing. First her not believing it given that was the original purpose of them when they gave them out in the first book. Second and probably worse is her panic about not being able to write in it. Where am I supposed to find another diary? Ok. Super sheltered or not, any person with even a pinch of sense would know that it’s just a notebook. She can use any notebook. She could write on napkins if she wanted. It’s like because if it isn’t given to her as a diary that she can’t use it as one.
My nieces used notebooks to write their little diaries in without prompt when they were like 7. Not the most intriguing entries at that age, but still happened.
3. The authors endless comments about emotions detected by seeing the swirling in the eyes of everyone. They are so incredibly over the top, laughable, and ridiculous I can’t take it. Every single one of them. Resilience “swirling” in someone’s eyes? Positivity and negativity? Holy moly it’s bad.
4. I can’t figure out if it’s supposed to come across as, I don’t know, poetic or maybe emo or super clever or what. But the internal dialogue and many of the interactions is just so try hard. Uppity. Like using the worst of the worst in corporate speak. Spewing nonsense like it actually means something without ever saying anything at all. No wonder everyone is all confused when nobody can manage to communicate effectively. Using thirty words when only two or three would clearly communicate a thought.
I mean I get it, she gets paid for every page read so she needs to stretch every little thing into more words. I prefer more story and less nonsensical ranting.

I’m realizing I don’t enjoy this authors writing.

I do however appreciate the speed of which she releases her books. In this day and age, waiting a year or more is not smart. With so many options and competition out there, it’s too easy to lose fans and support and interest. I know a few authors that come to mind that have gone from being my absolute favorites to complete disinterest because they leave you hanging for so long.

This series is readable but it’s certainly not KC’s best work.
Again through this book Polaris has no personality, and she’s just so accepting off stuff - you’ve been compelled (okay), I’m gonna fuck and dump you (okay), the vampire that hates you secretly has a pet name for you (okay), you still have no memories of your past life (okay) - she’s just got no passion what’s so ever. I also don’t understand since she’s a witch with mind magic why she hasn’t even tried a spell to recall her lost memories or about blacking out or anything useful but hey at least you can put your hair up in a pony tail.

Asher came from nowhere (on the interest level) and suddenly is so obsessed with her, he needs her allllll the time, whatever stick is up Lincoln’s ass needs removing ASAP because boy is he a dickhead. I still like Tatum, he’s sweet and chill.

I want to like this series but I’m guessing all the ‘fun’’mystery’ bits before they’re revealed because it’s so damn obvious and honestly it’s a bit boring.

DNF

Tatum returns the coin to Polaris.
Wylder treats her funny, but it's because Bianca reminds him that their families promised them to each other. Polaris isn't a wolf and he tries to build a wall between them. Doesn't work. He fucks her in the bathroom.
Polaris has also been blacking out and losing time. Bryony is convinced a vampire is compelling her.
It is revealed Polaris is a mind witch, a center. When a fight breaks out on campus she is overwhelmed and her head feels like it's going to explode. Turns out she needs a coven to ground her. But the last coven that tried to recruit her tried to force her into revealing what kind of witch she was (painfully) and she wants nothing to do with a coven. But their center just died so who knows.
At the next fuul moon party, Lincoln ends up following Polaris into the woods after she sees that Lincoln beat the shit out of her old boyfriend because of something shitty he said to her. He then gives in and fucks her against a tree. Then he freaks out because his wolf was begging him to finish in her and she runs away. Polaris is tired of his hot and cold. She finds Tatum and he realizes that Lincoln did something to make her sad. He then gets on Lincoln's ass.
Asher has started to take an interest in Polaris. They have a meeting in the wolf dorm. They tell her that her journal she's been writing in since she was 15 has been recording everything she's written in there. She's upset and decides that sucking Tatum's cock is going to make her feel better.
Wylder has another fight. Asher picks her up and they hold hands going in. Polaris is confused, but he won't let her pull away and teases her while Wylder fights. As soon as the fight is over, Asher takes her to VIP where he has not allowed anyone else to be, strips her and himself naked, and tells her he's going to dominate her. And he does. Bare. No fucks given. Then his Uncle shows up. The Crow. A scary motherfucker apparently. Everyone rushes away and he goes to face the music. His Uncle gives him a deal. He wants him to retreive an artifact for him.
Polaris wakes up the next morning with a feather and a card from the crow. She goes to the guys and they tell her that means the crow has a deal fer her and there's nothing they can do.
Tatum gives Polaris wolfsbane to wear so she can't be compelled. B, her friend, shows up in her room saying they have met 3 times before and he was worried about her when she didn't show up. Polaris is so confused. The next day she is grabbed by Blaze. He whisks her away to an empty classroom, calls her Amica Mea, tells her that she drives him crazy, then tells her 'like usual' to forget any of this happened. But she doesn't because of the wolfsbane. She has another interaction with Blaze in the hallway.
The guys bring Polaris in on the fact that they are trying to break the blood kin curse. Asher has a job to do for his Uncle, The Crow, and Polaris agrees to help them, as their witch.
They go to some basement in New York and walk into a room filled with a box and a ton of keys. Polaris uses her magic to figure out which key it is. They let her do the honors. She turns the key and a doorway opens up. Then she's hit in the chest with an arrow.
Everyone freaks out and gets her back to campus to the medical center. She is stable but the nurse tells them she is not responding to the blood they're trying to give her. It seems that she is someone's bound. They question who it could be, when a man walks in through the doors and delares it is him.

In this book, Wylder, Tatum, Asher, and Lincoln mess Polaris around big time. It gets to the point where Minnie is threatening bodily harm to each of them and urging them to pull their finger from their arses.

One of the endearing parts of Polaris is how new she is to this world. The author does a terrific job of ensuring that the locked-away life Polaris experienced for a decade isn’t forgotten. Every new experience is a wonder to her, and her outlook on life makes others take stock and realise just what privilege they are experiencing.

This book gives us more information about the blood kin curse. Specifically, the origin of it. It turns out that the blood kin curse came about from a witch who cursed all the lines after her men (multiple partners) died in battle. Polaris, it seems, has a lot in common with this unknown original witch – we do learn her name in this book, but I’m not telling you.

The factions don’t mix. That is something the book plot line has been very good at defining. Everything about Polaris’s relationships with Wylder, Tatum, Asher, and Lincoln shouldn’t work. They are wolves, she is a witch. And yet they are inexplicitly drawn to one another despite all odds.

Polaris learns more about the witch she is in this book. She studies, researches and practices. She is, unsurprisingly, the rarest kind of witch. Another thing that links her to the original witch of the curse. Polaris shows great levels of resilience. She shows that trust is earned, not given and trust broken is hard won back. She has a level of innocent badass-ness that seems unique to herself. She explores all the new sexual feelings and actions with the wolves, but she never loses sight of her own morals or boundaries.

There is quite a bit of sexual contact in this book, primarily between Wylder, Tatum, and Asher. Lincoln is still being a whiny little shit, so Polaris has taken to ignoring him. Wylder, ironically, brings out her wild side. Tatum represents her safe zone. Asher takes control away from her in the most delicious way.

There was emphasis that Polaris cannot survive without a coven, being the part of the witch that she is. However, I came to realise rather quickly while reading that coven is subjective. Never is it mentioned that the coven has to be witches only. In my mind's eye, I can see the coven that Polaris has unintentionally formed, and it suits her much better than the coven box that stereotypes would push her into.

We also learn of The Crow. Who he is, what he represents. What he wants. How he bargains. He is, perhaps, an unknown force as not much is given, but it is clear that his presence between the main characters is a force to be reckoned with and a presence that will linger through the series.
The ending came suddenly. I was fully engrossed in reading, and I actually had to read the page twice to realise what had happened. It felt unexpected. I wasn’t looking for it. But the bit after, the last lines of the book, that I was expecting.
