This psychological thriller starts with Stephanie Lewis who is starting her dream job as Assistant Producer for NES News station. Of course she’s nervous and anxious to start! When she gets there, she’s greeted by an ambulance, someone from the station has suffered a heart attack! What an exciting beginning of a career, or was that a sign of what is to come?

Stephanie meets her co-workers ( Darius, Henry, Rick ) her boss Jack and her boss’s boss Martha- who is not the kindest or friendliest!

As she is learning the ropes, she starts experiencing a hostile work environment, and mysterious deaths begin to occur, similar to her first day of work!

One day Stephanie wakes up, feeling symptoms of being drugged and has trouble remembering what the heck happened to her and how she ended up locked in a dark closet!!

The story jumps back and forth to Stephanie waking up Locked up in a closet and the past events that led to it! This book has you on the edge of your seat, trying to piece things together, who, what and why continuously pooping into your head! You will not be able to put the book down until you finish it!

This book is well written, has your interest from the very first page until the end! The pages and font make it easy to read! I can’t wait to read more thrillers by Isabel Wells

Wow, this was a delightful read! I have nothing but good things to say about it. I couldn’t put it down! The book is so well paced! The author does an amazing job of explaining the backstory, whilst also engaging the reader and I was always left wanting to read more. This book was so well written, too! I loved the premise and related to the story. I’ve had a job in which I’ve felt the way the main character feels and I often felt myself saying, “Wow, this is so realistic.” The author also incorporated so many unique and personable moments that made it possible for me to immerse myself in the story… as if I was there! This was one of the best books I’ve read this year! Highly recommend it!

Thrilling thriller

Devil's news had my attention from the very first chapter. Without any spoilers: there's deaths, kidnapping, and many plot twists that will keep you guessing. I read it in two sittings. This is a must-have for any thriller lovers book shelf.

I listened to the audio book Devil’s News by author Isabel Wells.

Stephanie Lewis is a young Oklahoma State journalism graduate taking a local news job in The Big Apple. She has all the hopes, aspirations and butterflies in her stomach that one would expect. While getting boots on ground she makes some supportive friends, meets some odd peers, a wonderful supervisor and the toxic narcissistic executive producer who likes to belittle Stephanie every chance she gets.

Learning the high stress competitive job of big city journalism is already a lot to process. Then add people dropping dead in the office, some low key stalking, office spies and a night barely remembered, Stephanie finds herself in an absolutely newsworthy situation.

I really enjoyed this book and listened straight through! With an engaging narrator, quality character development, and Stephanie playing armchair detective, it was a really fun ride. Kept me guessing! And it gave me malevolent mysterious “The Office” vibes.

I look forward to checking out more reads from this author.

​Two words: I KNEW IT! (And also… WOW.) 😱
​I just finished Devil’s News. I went into this one completely blind, I’d never read Isabel Wells before, but I heard it was a thriller about a "dream job" gone wrong. As a thriller lover, that is exactly my jam!
​Here are my thoughts:
​The Pace: I literally could not put this down. I finished the entire book in 24 hours! It is incredibly fast-paced and suspenseful.
​The Mystery: I’m the type of reader who takes notes to try and solve the crime. By 50%, I was convinced Henry was the killer (sorry, Henry! 😂). By 73%, I actually cracked the case!
​The Characters: Stephanie, the lead, is so likable. You’ll find yourself rooting for her from page one.
​The Ending: Even though I worked some of it out, the ending was still a total shock to the system. ⚡️
​This was a solid 5-star read for me. If you love a mystery that keeps you guessing (and second-guessing), you need to pick this up. I officially have a new author to obsess over!

Toxic Newsrooms and Deadly Secrets

Devil’s News by Isabel Wells is my first read by her, and I really enjoyed it.
The story follows Stephanie, who lands a job at NES News as an Assistant Producer. When her co-workers start mysteriously dying from heart attacks, everything takes a darker turn, especially after she wakes up in a closet and begins questioning who the killer really is.

I personally enjoyed this story because of my background working in broadcast TV. The industry can be brutal at times, and the book captures the toxicity of that environment well, minus the killing part.

Wells’ writing shifts beautifully between the past and present, creating an unsettling world filled with characters you either love or hate.
Pick up Devil’s News if you enjoy thrillers that blend drama and mystery.

I picked this up during a Stuff Your Kindle day and ended up pleasantly surprised. The newsroom setting and mystery kept me engaged, and I genuinely wanted to know what was going on and how everything would come together. For me, that's always a good sign.

The dialogue felt a little stiff and unnatural at times, and I occasionally struggled to connect with the protagonist's way of thinking. That said, the story kept me turning the pages, and I've DNF'd plenty of books by much bigger-name authors that held my attention far less.

Overall, I'm glad I took a chance on a lesser-known indie author. It wasn't perfect, but it was an entertaining read that kept me guessing, and I'd be open to reading more from Isabel Wells in the future.

She learns someone from NES News has had a heart attack. What a welcome on her first day. Is this an omen of things to come?

This one pulled me in pretty quickly. I’m always a sucker for a thriller where nobody can be trusted, and this one delivered!

Stephanie finally lands her dream job at a news station, but things take a dark turn when people around her start dying under suspicious circumstances. From there, it felt like every new clue just raised more questions, and I was constantly trying to figure out who was hiding what.

I really enjoyed the newsroom setting because it felt different from a lot of the thrillers I usually pick up. It added an extra layer of tension knowing that everyone was competing for success while secrets were piling up in the background.

Was I yelling at Stephanie to stop digging into things? Absolutely. Did I immediately keep reading to see what she found next? Also yes.

Overall, this was a fun, fast paced thriller that kept me guessing and entertained from beginning to end.

The first chapter was a great way to get someone interested in the book, however I had a hard time getting absorbed in the rest of the book and read others in between. The main person starts a new job at a news station and on her first day there is a death. The book creates drama between the boss and the other news station employees to show it is a hostile environment. Later in the book someone else also dies in the office in the same manner. From that scene I knew why the people were dying and there wasn't too much of a mystery or a twist which I love in a book. I still keep reading, while the main character is adjusting to her new job she is becoming good friends with a co-worker while another co-worker is slowly starting to be obsessed with her which leads to trouble. There are two different plots going on that don't quite match up. Once i did get reading it was an easy read.
