I’m Zoe Casson, Sweet Water’s resident psychologist, a senator’s daughter, and an all-around rule follower. Except for that one night…
I slept with a man at a masquerade party and still don’t know his real name or what he looks like. The same mystery man who I’ve been texting for two months. The one I can’t get out of my head, but I’m afraid if we meet for real, the fantasy will die.
Plus, I’ve got way too much going on to consider a relationship—even if his texts give me butterflies. My practice is booming, but I’ve got an ex-client stalking me, leaving notes on my car, and showing up unannounced. After the fifth encounter, my father hires a security detail to shadow me for the next six months.
Only problem? That security detail is my mystery man. And now he’s going to be at my side twenty-four seven.
Owen Rolfe is everything I imagined him to be and more—strong, confident, and this side of dangerous. Exchanging flirty texts for in-person conversations only enhances our undeniable chemistry, and the more time we spend together, the harder I fall.
It’s his job to protect me, but our feelings for each other raise the stakes. And when my ex-client escalates from stalking to violence, I’m worried my role in Owen’s life is going to get him hurt…or worse. And I’ll never be able to live with myself if something happens to him because of me.

This was disappointing for a Samantha Whiskey book. Some of her books are my favorite books. I LOVE the Black Onyx series and most of the Carolina Reapers series. However, I have not loved any of the books she has written that are just plain romance books, although I did like the one before this one the best of the 6 or so I would put in that category she has written.
This wasn't bad, but it was short. It was a 2 hour read. There wasn't much meat to the story. It felt like the second draft before it was flushed out with details.
I can't remember a book she's written where it felt like she was sloppy with details. However, this one did. This is a bit of a spoiler. Someone gets injured in a way that would have required surgery. She writes that the 1st responders take that person to the ICU at the hospital where the problem is repaired. She skipped the emergency room and surgery. Not to mention, the person wouldn't have needed the ICU after surgery.
I look forward to getting back to the Black Onyx series or maybe she'll have a new sport romance series. Maybe a Carolina baseball team?
I loved going back to Sweet Water for this story. “Sweet and Salty” is a swoony, heartfelt and action packed bodyguard romance that was so good.
Zoe is a psychologist and a rule follower, especially since her father is a congressman and she could be in the spotlight at any moment. But at a masquerade party, she’s able to be free and connects with a man in a silver mask. They have their fantasy night together but the next day and for a few months, things return to normal. But when a former patient develops an obsession with Zoe, her Dad hires her a bodyguard. And that bodyguard happens to be Silver or Owen Rolfe, a former military man and the owner of the club.
I loved Zoe and Owen’s connection they had at the masquerade party and how they kept in touch for months after via text. They built up a relationship and friendship from the beginning. I loved the plot twist of him also being a bodyguard and him being hired to protect Zoe. From the start, he was all in to protect her. Zoe is kind and independent and wanted to help who she could with her practice. And I loved her feeding Gregory the cat and Owen’s need to win him over. They had a solid connection and I loved the flirting they had while working together. They were able to sneak in some romantic dates and I swooned over these two. The added action of Owen trying to find her stalker had me turning the pages as the story went. I loved the ending and I’m looking forward to the next book in this series.
Dr. Zoe Casson never thought she would have a one night stand at a masquerade party and stay in touch with the stranger by texting because she never intended to meet him again. But her plans to never see him again ended when her father hired security when a former therapy patient started stalking her when she discontinued him as a patient.
Owen Rolfe didn’t expect the woman that he met at the masquerade party to be his next client. But now he would be protecting Zoe for the next six months while he tried to find her stalker. But more he was around her, the more he wanted her permanently in his life.
You will love Sweet and Salty if you like characters that will do everything they can to protect their loved one.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
FMC: Zoe Casson, town therapist MMC: Owen Rolfe, club owner, contract bodyguard Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Pages: 172 Tropes: Body Guard Romance, Romantic Suspense, Small Town Romance, One Night Stand, Hidden Identities Setting: Sweet Water, South Carolina
Thoughts: This was a quick, low angst read. Zoe and Owen just fit together perfectly and the way they met and then talked through text only added to the ease they felt with each other. Owen being hired as Zoe’s bodyguard was just the push they both needed to meet in person and solidify their connection. They were a fun couple to read.
The suspense was predictable, but added necessary tension. I liked that the stalker was never a mystery. It all built to a great crescendo.
This was a great addition to the Sweet Water Series.
I love this series and I loved this story! I could not stop reading and I cannot wait for what comes next!
Zoe and Owen meet at a masquerade ball and have a nice time together on the roof! Neither remove their masks, or share their names, but they do exchange phone numbers. After spending 2 months texting, and still not exchanging names, they have developed a close friendship and connection.
When Zoe's former patient starts stalking her, and her father insists on hiring her security, the person he hires is Owen! Both Zoe and Owen are shocked, and decide to keep their link a secret from her father. They also decide to keep their relationship only professional, but as the stalker escalates, and they spend more time together, keeping it professional becomes harder and harder.
This is a great love story and HEA. Enjoy this fantastic read!
Sweet and Salty is the perfect title for this book, with it having just the perfect mix. Zoe and Owen met with no names exchanged and with their identities hidden behind masks, it was a night that affected them both immensely. However when Zoe's life is in danger, her father hires the best of the best to protect her. Fate plays into their hands with these two strangers finally meeting face to face. Owen is protective of Zoe from that very first moment, more than a case would require. Zoe and Owen have chemistry off the charts but both unsure how to walk the line of attraction and professionalism. Theirs was a story filled with heart and emotion and one that had me unable to put it down.
Zoe and Owen are great names. Also, Zoe clearly has a side to her that only Owen ever gets to see and it's beautiful to watch her explore. They have chemistry from the moment they meet and text banter for days. I can't believe they meet the way they do for Zoe safety but it leads to them finally exploring what they have. It's a beautiful small town romance.
Zoe and Owen are fantastic together. That little plot twist at the start is fun and relatable! The instant attraction, anticipation, and real life getting in the way are all relatable and make for a fantastic read. Zoe is being stalked and Owen is here to protect her. The falling in love part is just a bonus. This is a bodyguard romance but not in the same way as others you may have read. As the title states, it is a sweet romance that is relatable for us ordinary folk.
The first of this series I’ve read but not the first by Samantha Whiskey. This one is exactly what doctor ordered for a weekend sick in bed. ‘Silver’ and ‘kitten’ have a chance meeting at a masquerade party. After they keep in tough with flirty texts a more serious situation brings them face to face this time.
This really was a little sweet and a little bit salty. And a little bit of hotness sprinkled in for 4 star read.
Owen (Salty) Rolfe and Zoe (Sweet) Casson meet at a masquerade ball and neither one imagined he would turn out to be her bodyguard because of a stalker prior client. This is a heartfelt love story with steam and action with a little bit of mystery added into the mix. Such an enjoyable read.
Sweet & Salty! What a fantastic title to this book.
Sweet Dr. Zoe and Salty Owen.
I just loved this newest addition to the Sweet Water series. Instant attraction, instant heat, instant love, instant forever with a little mystery and drama added in.
If you like your reads with low angst, this is it peeps. I have no regrets!
This was cute short fast read. Owen and Zoe meet at his bar at a masquerade event not knowing each other or even names. They have texted for months until he is hired as her bodyguard by her father to protect her from her former patient and stalker. This has some mystery, lots of steamy romance and an HEA.
This was another great fast read. The author gave us a set of characters who instantly clicked and I couldn’t help but love them. I loved how she utilized the masked stranger aspect but didn’t over do it. This small town romance had just the right amount of spice and plot. I am excited to read the next book.
Samantha Whiskey is the queen of the surprise releases! This wasn't my favorite, but if you're looking for an easy, uncomplicated story where the main characters communicate and the conflict is external, this is for you!
I love Samantha whiskey. Always a good read. I adore her paranormal stories just as much as her hockey and her billionaire and these small town ones. Hopefully we get Ridge and Lyla soon!! And Caleb?!
If you’re looking for a sweet read then Sweet and Salty is the book for you. Owen and Zoe will steal your heart nothing better than a small town romance.
Samantha Whiskey does it again! The queen of pallet cleaners. Short sweet and to the point! Loved the characters as well! Will never not recommend her books!
