New politics and old corruption.

The Emperor and Ironhold have fallen, but the new republic is struggling. Rowan is First Senator now, surviving assassination attempts and a divided Senate. He summons Lyra and Alaric to return to Aetheria to help him. Lyra and Alaric left the city with different goals. They settled in Seaside, where she finds peace and he finds boredom. Lyra hopes Alaric will be happier in the city. He sees it differently. Jealousy, anger, and his experiences with politics and corruption may be the final straw in their relationship.

There is plenty of action and drama in this book. New and old foes create action and intrigue. I received a free copy, but my review is honest and voluntary.

I was given an ARC of this book and it was another enjoyable episode.

Lyra is called back to the city to help with the unrest due a demand for the games.

This was another tangled web of deceit and double-dealing, causing dilemmas for Lyra.

I liked the use of magic and Lyra is a likeable character but the politics and power play by others was annoying...though essential to the plot.

There was a good sense of place and I liked the fast-paced writing style.

Engaging and entertaining.

A let down

A big let down, by far the poorest book in the series. I hope it's a one-off. It also seemed very sho

I came across Book 1 completely by chance, and at the time, I had never heard of Morgan Rice. What first caught my attention was actually the cover. I know we’re not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but in this case, I’m really glad I did!

I absolutely loved the series from Book 1 through Book 6. The story, the characters, and the world kept me interested all the way through.

By Book 6, though, I started to lose interest—not because the story wasn’t good, but simply because there are so many books in the series, and I felt like I needed a change and wanted to read something different.

Maybe one day I’ll come back and discover the rest of the series. For now, I’m just happy I randomly picked up that first book. It introduced me to Morgan Rice and gave me six books that I truly enjoyed. ❤️
