None of it was ever supposed to be legal.

Finley Casper was never meant to survive. As an underage orphan conscripted into an experimental unit tasked with studying new breeds of Mutants, she was the perfect disposable asset—unseen, unprotected, and forgotten by the City.

But she survived. Worse, she turned the Scouts into the Compound’s most elite team.

That was her first mistake.

Now, the City wants her gone. Not promoted. Not praised. Erased. Their solution? Appoint a new Commander—Ari Kai, son of the infamously ruthless Roman Kai—to make sure Finley disappears quietly.

It might’ve worked. Should’ve worked. But three things happened in rapid

Ari Kai held a secret.Finley’s best friend became the Surveyor tasked with planning the mission that should’ve killed her. Or at least, severely maimed her.A newborn Dragon—exactly the creature they were hunting—bonded to her and refused to leave. Now the world knows Finley Casper’s name.
And they’ll never forget it.

Great writing. Compelling story. Finley is a great character. Can’t wait to continue reading about her adventures and how she evolves her world.

This had such potential!!! the characters are really interesting and the dynamic between all of them is pretty good. Finley's gift is really cool. it took a while to get into the story and for her and Ari to interact more.
but what was seriously lacking for me was the setting. there was almost no description of what the world was like or even the landscape. there's no world building at all. Finley and the guys are hiking like 30 miles but where? there's almost no description of where they're at. it would've been cool to get more of an idea of what they experienced for those three years and the compounds, how does that work? how are they set up? what do they look like? same with the city. and I started out liking Finley but as the story went she just got annoyingly stubborn. like, this is my fight and I don't need anyone's help. it was annoying. I don't think I'll read the next one. this has such potential is frustrating!!

Okay... this book could have used some strong editing in terms of word usage, grammar, and sentence structure, but overall the plot and characters were solid and massively compelling. I thought the characterization, world building, and plot were super strong and kept me reading even through the editing issues. I was impressed by the sheer breadth and depth of the world she created - the creatures and different types of people. It was just incredible. Tighten up some of the editing stuff and it would be incredible!

it started out slow… But it didn’t end that way

The first about 40 or so pages I wasn’t sure I wanted to continue reading because it was hard work. There was a lot of information the author had to convey so you would understand the rest of it sort of like some of our greatest authors that do such intricate plots that you need to know some of the backstory first. Gradually the author drew me in and made me care about the characters and then I cared about the outcome so now I have to read the rest and so will you highly recommend
