I sped through this book so fast because I became so immersed in this world. It is like watching a show like Oz, Wentworth or many of the other addictive prison dramas that are out there.
Honestly was this perfect? No. But I was so hooked I had to give it 5 stars. I literally didn’t want to put it down and isn’t that why those that love to read read?
I am glad that the book has a very clear trigger warning for rape. I was also glad that Matthew’s brutal rape was not shown on page and that Yuuto’s rape was very short. The two rapes could be extremely triggering so the warning helped. I do feel that transphobia should’ve also been included because it is everywhere in this story. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t bother me, even though I know it is realistic for the setting of the story. Realism doesn’t mean I have to like it and I didn’t, that goes for the rape as well.
Despite the fact that I found it incredibly obvious that Nathan was Corvus I still enjoyed reading this story of Yuuto not knowing what was right in front of his face the entire time that sweet Nathan wasn’t so sweet at all.
Finally the romance honestly it was ok. I mean I don’t hate this pairing at all. I think they had their moments but for me what I enjoyed most about Deadlock was the bigger story itself. I really hope this sells well so that I can read the bonus stories as I want as much as this world as I can get can. I’m hooked.
