A fun read. A must for Flyers fans. Provides a glorious though sometimes sobering look at the men and families who meant so much to so many. With a 50 year Cup drought you sometimes wonder if they will Ever win again. But it is true for so many youth they gave us the idea that hard work and loyalty could force multiply talent to beat the best. I don’t remember the players ever taking g about injuries as an excuse for ‘76. Sure we knew Parent and MacLeish were out but we never knew about the rest and they never whined. The Flyers were truly loved. It is sad they weren’t as well paid as today’s guys and it hurts to hear of their struggles with marriages and alcohol. I think all of us who lived in the area at the time have stories. I payed against Jamie Leach when we’re like 9’years old. Reggie came in to our locker room and talked to us and signed autographs. I met Ed Van Impe at Skateland with Andre LaCroix and Gene Hart at a sports banquet. I think Some Eagles fans are just as diehard today but they imprinted so much energy n us. I still follow them and still feel sad when they play that final game each year still looking for that Hat Trick Cup. Can Hat Trick in ‘76 become Hat Trick in ‘26. Probably not but can we hope For soon. We have a Russian stud. Irony of ironies of he brings Lord Stanley home
I thoroughly enjoyed the stories here - really, a replay of my youth and the glory days of the Flyers' Stanley Cup victories - but oof! the writing... 5 stars for the stories but 1 star for the writing equals 3 stars total.
Terrific look at the players, coaches and their families! Lots of neat stories and reflections of an incredible team from back when hockey was crazy but great. Incredible personalities! Devoured this book in a few days.
