Rate this book
After a devastating loss and the discovery of a dark conspiracy, Klarke Ascher is determined to uncover the truth, no matter the cost. Her to find the prince's missing twin and the elusive Ramanata, who hold the key to exposing the king's deceit and forcing his abdication. To advance her cause, Klarke cleverly convinces the king to allow the Ascenditures to join Ainar's team for a peace climb aimed at healing the rift between their lands.

As she embarks on this journey, Klarke discovers a kingdom that values diversity and equality—ideals she yearns to bring back to Ectair. But first, she must brave the perilous slopes of Mount Opasno while searching for one of the many women her mother helped smuggle to safety from their oppressive king.

In a world where lies are as fierce as the mountain winds and danger lurks around every craggy outcrop, Klarke must navigate a tangled web of enemies and political intrigue. As alliances shift and hidden agendas emerge, she realizes that not all allies can be trusted and not all adversaries are as they seem.

The stakes are extremely high in this sequel to one of my favorite YA fantasy novels. If you love the Hunger Games, but want something completely original and full of political intrigue, this series is a must! I also love the strong feminist narrative of the story.

Book 2, Finding Ramanata, continues exactly where we left off in book 1, with Klarke now an Ascenditure after suffering heartbreaking loss. But the worst is far from over, as King Adolar still keeps her on a close leash. Klarke must find new allies and plot from within the king’s walls his demise. I’m glad she is not alone, as many including her soon-to-be husband, Prince Otto, stand by her. It is refreshing to see how their friendship is strong and genuine. The people believe in Klarke, that she can bring change for all women. But can she help them with King Adolar and his minions watching her every move?

This series is incredibly well written, this sequel raises the stakes even higher and adds so many intriguing layers that keep your eyes glued while reading. What I also love about these books is that the female lead is strong and clever, we are rooting for her the entire time while reading.

Finding Ramanata is a richly layered fantasy that deepens its world while raising the emotional and political stakes established in the series. Robyn Dabney delivers a compelling sequel that blends perilous adventure with thoughtful exploration of power, justice, and moral courage.

Klarke Ascher emerges as a formidable and nuanced protagonist, driven by loss yet guided by an unyielding commitment to truth. Her determination to expose the king’s deception and reunite what has been torn apart gives the story its emotional core. The ascent of Mount Opasno is not just a physical journey but a symbolic one, reflecting Klarke’s growing awareness of leadership, sacrifice, and the cost of change.

The political intrigue is especially well executed. Shifting alliances, hidden motives, and the tension between ideals and survival create an atmosphere of constant uncertainty. Dabney’s portrayal of a kingdom rooted in diversity and equality adds meaningful contrast to Ectair’s oppression, enriching the narrative with timely and resonant themes.

With vivid settings, strong character dynamics, and a plot that balances action with introspection, Finding Ramanata stands as a confident and rewarding continuation of the series. It’s a story that challenges assumptions about loyalty and power while keeping readers fully invested in Klarke’s journey toward truth and reform.

Why do we look up, darling?
For that is the direction in which the mountain grows

Klarke finds herself in a little bit of a web, she is to be married but loves another while the prince also loves another. No one around her trusts King Adolar, especially her. There is also a dark conspiracy she is determined to figure out: where is Ramanata, the prince's missing twin. Does King Adolar have something to do with it?

To ease some tensions with the neighboring kings King Adolar agrees to send his Ascenditures on an unity climb to summit Mount Opasno, the highest and most challenging mountain in all the land. King Gyalzen believes it will forge a new alliance because of the skill and accomplishment will bind both kingdoms. Mount Opasno is said to claim the lives of one in every fifteen who climb it. Which means it does take the most skilled climbers to do so.

Along the way not only does the mountain cause trouble, but the amount of truths and lies that come out has Klarke constantly questioning if she can believe anyone at all.

Robyn is amazing at creating such artistry in her writing, there were so many times she was writing about what a place looked like and I could picture it.

The ending makes me happy that book three is coming out soon!

Finding Ramanata (2) is an enthralling fantasy adventure that combines political intrigue, personal courage, and high-stakes quests in a richly imagined world. Following Klarke Ascher’s relentless pursuit of truth and justice, the novel blends intricate plotting with emotional depth, as she navigates conspiracies, treacherous landscapes, and shifting alliances.

Dabney’s strength lies in her ability to balance suspense, action, and character development. Klarke is a compelling protagonist resilient, clever, and morally driven whose journey to uncover the missing twin and the elusive Ramanata is both tense and emotionally resonant. The political machinations of Ectair and the perilous Mount Opasno climb heighten the stakes, creating a story that is as intellectually engaging as it is thrilling.

The novel also explores themes of equality, diversity, and the courage to challenge oppressive systems, making it a story that resonates beyond its fantasy setting. With vivid world-building, layered characters, and a gripping plot, Finding Ramanata (2) is a must-read for fans of epic fantasy, political intrigue, and adventure-driven narratives.

Robyn Dabney does it again! Finding Ramanata, the second book in Dabney's Daughter of Summit and Sea feminist fantasy series, is an intense, emotional, brilliant novel. We follow Klarke Ascher as she continues her quest, scaling mountains as she works to free her country from a cruel dictatorship hell-bent on destroying her. Finding Ramanata has everything I loved in The Ascenditure – unnerving political intrigue, thrilling action, rich characters and world building, and lyrical prose. Readers will find enormous inspiration in Klarke’s determination and passionate resolve to uncover the truth despite the personal cost, anguish, and peril. I can’t wait for the final installment of this series, because of this I have no doubt: Klarke will not fall. She will not fail. She will not betray the truth. A must read.

This was such an incredible book! Watching Klarke navigate all the obstacles King Adolar keeps putting in her way was so great. I love how she has like a quiet strength, there’s a really good analogy about it towards the end where she’s talking about how the male climbers she knows have brute strength but she’s always been forced to work harder to find different ways to do what they do. There were so many moving parts in this with all of the different groups of people with their own agendas. There was a lot of character development for a couple of the characters and it was really nice to see enemies become allies. Klarke dealt with some really shocking news at one point and she handled it far better than I ever would’ve. Kiel is just so freaking cute and I love the things he says to Klarke. There’s a pretty huge twist at the end and I can’t wait to see where the story goes from here.

It is kind Rodeo Barrel Racing. Every time you think you know where she is going, she does a 180 and takes back through those barrels again. Several times. Robyn's writing gets stronger with every book. Great fun with a very important theme. - ps
