Reagan Stuart is happy being alone. It’s hard to be disappointed if there aren’t any attachments.
Hart Anderson knows that love hurts. He learned it as a kid, he learned it again as a teenager, and he learned it from his time in the military.
Two broken souls, Reagan and Hart are on the same wavelength when it comes to relationships. It’s best to keep what they’ve got between them strictly physical.
But things change. When Hart heads to Reagan’s for a night of fun, she’s gone.
Vanished.
Hart knows that Reagan would never just disappear, and he fears she’s in real trouble. It’s a race against the clock to get her back. And Hart can’t screw this up.
Because even if he told himself she meant nothing to him, he knows it’s a lie. He’s in love, and Reagan’s the one who showed him how good it could be.
A.K. Evans is a contemporary romance author of over twenty published novels. While she enjoys writing a good romantic suspense novel, Andrea’s favorite books to write have been her extreme sports romances. That might have something to do with the fact that she, along with her husband and two sons, can’t get enough of extreme sports.
Before becoming a writer, Andrea did a brief stint in the insurance and financial services industry and managed her husband’s performance automotive business. That love of extreme sports? She used to drive race cars!
When Andrea isn’t writing, she can be found homeschooling her two sons, doing yoga, snowboarding, reading, or traveling with her family. She and her husband are currently taking road trips throughout the country to visit all 50 states with their boys.
Oh My Heart! I know each time I start an HSO read, it's going to be fantastic, but this one? Exceptional.
This series has been nothing short of fabulous, each HSO employee's story more gripping than the last, but this one?! This story LINGERS. It's a difficult subject, heart wrenching and emotional for everyone involved, and I needed time to decompress after I finished.
Both Hart and Reagan are okay going through life on their own - free of entanglements and relationships - so a no expectations, physical relationship only scenario works for them. No one catches feelings, no one gets hurt. But as we all know, the best laid plans don't always work out the way we expect. These two are steamy and have a great connection, even if it seems only surface thin.
Then, why am I saying this one lingers? Because of the way this author allows me/us to connect with the characters. I appreciated Reagan's "can do" independent attitude, and Hart's sweet attachment to his Grandma. But when Steel Ridge women start disappearing, and Reagan is one of them, feelings focus very quickly for Hart, and it's tough to see them struggle with their situations. These characters and the storyline linger in your head and heart, and the drama and dangers of where she is and what is happening was a very acute image in my mind, painted by this talented author. The imagery she crafts provides a gut wrenching read, and I was on the edge of my seat, very anxious for Reagan's safety. That is one of my favorite things about this author, and why I recommend her so highly. Every couple and story is original, evokes a lot of emotions from me, and delivers the HEA I need for the couple. You would think, after 19 other stories, this series would be stale, but NO. The connections and comradery of all in the HSO family is just as fresh and wonderful as some in the beginning of the series. Which is why I recommend reading in order.
While everything does work out in the end, the journey these two took to find their HEA was tough, and definitely owns space in my head and heart... You can start your love affair with HSO here if you need to, but in order is best, IMO. I was fortunate to receive an ARC (thank you), and happily leave my review.
This manages to be hopeful, a little angsty, heartbreaking, and redeeming all at once. Reagan and Hart both believe that they aren’t cut out for more than the pretense of “no feelings attached” when it comes to their arrangement, but the truth is obvious. Sure, they might be trying to ignore it to avoid upending the best thing they’ve both had, but when it all goes sideways and the willingness to do ANYTHING to save the one person who owns their heart. Even if it means destroying any hope of a future.
Believe me when I say that Hart and Reagan are going to make you feel all sorts of things. And there is a big warning that the author needs you to heed, too. It gets a little dark. Reagan does her best to survive. And she does save someone else along the way. But heed the warnings if you’re not okay with some of the grittier things in life. And rest assured that the grit gives way to sunny skies, shared love, heart to heart talks about truth and the hopes for the future, and exactly what both Reagan and Hart deserve to have as their forever.
I can always count on AK Evans for a fast and bingeworthy read! This book is on the shorter side (less than 300 pages) but packed with drama, emotion, and spice. Definitely check your trigger warnings, though, because it deals with some pretty dark things. A solid read for your TBR, and it would be good to pull you out of a reading slump.

Come with us to meet Reagan and Hart in Vanished - book 20 of A.K. Evan’s series - Harper Security Ops.
This book gave me all of the feels….It had my jaw dropping, it had me crying, laughing, cringing, then crying again. BUT I spent the entire book rooting for them. It is by far my favorite of this entire series, even though I’ve loved them all!
Reagan is a real estate agent and loves helping people (and birds) find homes. Hart is a member of the Kidnap and Ransom Unit at HSO. Reagan has her clients, and Hart has his Grams, but both are lonely and suffer from trauma from their childhood. They both agree - love hurts. Both have zero interest in having a significant other or having anything serious. Long term love doesn’t seem to be in the cards for either of them, and they are ok with that. BUT it doesn’t mean that they might not be up for a bit of fun with zero commitment and no expectations to fill in some of the loneliness.
When Reagan and Hart “battle” over a birdhouse, they realize that they have seen each other in passing almost weekly while grabbing lunch from the local deli. After the birdhouse incident, the next time they see each other at the deli, Hart has a surprise for her - a birdhouse. Reagan decides to pass him her business card in case he ever wanted to get together for some no-strings-attached fun. And so it begins….but they both keep secrets and keep personal information to a minimum (including what Hart does for a living).
They’ve been enjoying each other’s company for almost a year. On a trip to her house, Hart sees that her car is in the driveway but her door is ajar, and she is nowhere to be found. Her phone is on the counter and knows she has a security system, so he pulls up the footage and realizes that she’s been kidnapped. The team at HSO is already working on a case where women have been going missing. As they connect the dots, they realize that she has become another victim in this case. He does everything he can to find out who took her and where she might be. When they realize where she is, he decides he will stop at nothing to get her back. The people who took Reagan are the worst of the worst type of people. In order to ensure she stays safe and gets out alive (if she is even still alive), he needs to take on a very different persona in order to infiltrate where she is being held and to keep her safe. He realizes he needs to do it no matter the cost, even if it means she may never forgive him.
Will Hart get her out safely? Will Reagan believe he can really be THAT type of person? Will their feelings change about a potential future together? I highly recommend you read the story to find out!
I can hardly believe we are twenty books—yes, twenty!—deep into the Harper Security Ops series. Where has the time gone? Time and time again, A.K. Evans has delivered fresh, pulse-pounding, and emotionally driven romantic suspense, and Vanished is no exception. In fact, it might just be the crown jewel of the series.
As the penultimate instalment (cue my tears for the finale to come), Vanished brings us Hart and Regan’s story—and let me just say, Ms. Evans didn’t just pull out all the stops… she rewrote the manual. It feels as though she took the heart-stopping danger, slow-burn passion, emotional depth, and trauma-healing beauty of all nineteen previous books and poured them into this one breathtaking novel.
Hart and Regan are two characters shaped by painful pasts, both utterly convinced love isn’t in the cards for them. But fate clearly had other plans. From the moment Regan notices her “mystery man” in the local lunch shop, the tension simmers. What starts as a casual arrangement—“lunchtime with benefits,” as it’s cheekily described—turns into something neither of them saw coming. Watching their walls slowly come down is nothing short of cathartic.
The prologue grabs you immediately with high-stakes suspense, only to rewind to the events of the previous year, unfolding the story in layers that keep you hooked. By the time the narrative circles back to the present day, all bets are off. Prepare for twists, revelations, and heartbreak that will leave you reaching for tissues. This isn’t just romance; it’s romance with consequence.
And the details! The birdhouses, the way Regan helps people find joy in their “forever homes” even when she believes there’s no such place for her—it’s so tender, so beautifully written. These small, poignant touches elevate the story from gripping to unforgettable.
With just one book left in the Harper Security Ops series, I’m already bracing myself for the goodbye. But Vanished reminds us exactly why we fell in love with this series in the first place. Suspenseful, sexy, soulful—this is A.K. Evans at her very best.
Have you read the rest of the Harper Security Ops series, or is this your first dive in?
If you're a fan of emotional, edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense, you have to check out Reagan and Hart’s story from the Harper Security Ops (HSO) series. Honestly, this one hit me right in the feels. Reagan and Hart are both pros at keeping their walls up — Reagan's fiercely independent, and Hart’s been through more than his share of heartbreak. So when they agree to a no-strings-attached thing, it makes sense... at least until Reagan suddenly disappears. That’s when Hart’s whole world tilts, and the tough guy act falls apart in the most gut-wrenching way. The suspense is top-notch — I couldn't turn the pages fast enough — but it’s the emotional gut-punch that really got me. Their chemistry is fire, sure, but it’s the deeper connection, the real, raw stuff, that sticks with you long after you close the book. Even though this is book 20 (yes, twenty!) in the series, it doesn’t feel tired at all. The friendships and loyalty within the HSO team keep everything feeling fresh and real. You could read it as a standalone, but honestly, getting to know the whole crew makes it even better. Bottom line: this story is intense, emotional, and absolutely worth the read. If you love romantic suspense packed with heart, vulnerability, and badass characters who earn their happily-ever-after, don’t miss this one.
When you think that this talented author can’t surpass her last story in the series, this listener realized how wrong she was. This one deserves 10 stars. Be prepare to have some hankies ready. Reagan Stuart, a realtor and Hart Anderson, a member of HSO, have had childhoods no child should ever experience. This forms their adult lives and expectations. They start a relationship of just “benefits”. But as it usually happens, feelings develop that were not planned. When Hart goes to meet up with Reagan at her house, he encounters his worse nightmare. The door is open , the phone is still home and Reagan is nowhere to be found. All pointing to a kidnap. Needless to say, desperation has Hart ready to do whatever is in his power to find Reagan. As will his friends at HSO. Will they find her in time? Will Reagan and Hart realize that they deserve each other, their love and being together? This was an action packed, at times heartbreaking story that will stay with you for a very long time. Kudos to the CJ Mission and Kit Swann for their excellent narration of the story. Both bringing the story to life. I was entrusted a copy of this audiobook. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
When they first meet, neither Reagan nor Hart are looking for anything long-term. It's purely physical and they don't share personal details about themselves. But the more time they spend together, the more they need to get to know one another. Except why ruin a good thing? Even as Reagan begins to ask questions, Hart keeps her at arm's length. Maybe it's the nature of his job at Harper Security Ops? But as women in Steel Ridge start to disappear, Hart becomes concerned about Reagan's safety. Those feelings he's trying to tamp down keep wanting to rush out and tell her how he really feels. When Reagan vanishes it takes everything in Hart to be patient and not rush the process of getting her and the other women to safety. But Reagan only sees betrayal.
Kit Swann and CJ Mission really brought this book to life! I felt every emotion that ran through the characters. The moment things changed for Reagan and Hart could be felt as Kit and CJ narrated the story. The nuances in their voices, the tone and inflection, all gave this book the emotions and suspense. Reagan and Hart's story will linger for a while.
I received a complimentary copy of this book at my request and voluntarily left this review.
Reagan loves her job finding the perfect home for her clients. After a hard childhood she feels comfort in her own little house and setting up her feathered friends in their own little birdhouses. She doesn't want to date never mind have a relationship but she does miss the intimacy.
Hart is another loner. He too had a hard childhood but he had his indomitable gran in his corner, and still does. He's noticed Reagan from afar but when they finally bump into each other sparks fly and they come up with their "arrangement". Far from the short term thrill they think it'll be it actually endures for over a year but neither of them are labelling it for what it actually is.
But Reagan ends up in danger and it's her FWB Hart who leads the charge. Finally admitting to himself that she is more than a friend just in time for him to possibly lose her when she has to see him in an undercover persona!
Hart and Reagan really makes things difficult for themselves in this! Reagan admittedly has the right to be terrified and you understand why she leaps to the conclusions she did but Hart didn't exactly rush to disabuse her of the misinformation. Thankfully they both pull their heads out of their a$$es and things resolve themselves. I'm really invested in this series and cannot wait for more.
5 stars isn't nearly enough for how much I loved this book. Not only have I read and/or listened to every single HSO book, but I've also read and/or listened to ALL of A.K. Evans series...Vanished is BY FAR my favorite to date. This book was just next level intense on every single emotion possible. CJ Mission and Kit Swann did an exceptional job on the audio. I truly believe they took the story to another level with the emotions they poured into Reagan and Hart's characters.
Reagan and Hart's relationship was truly a special one. Even when they spent a year saying it was only a friends with benefits type of situation, you could feel the relationship blossoming into so much more. Hart shows just how amazing of a person he is when he risks it all just to make sure Reagan was safe. THAT is true love!! These are the only things I want to say about the story itself, as I went into this book pretty much blind and I'm SOOO glad I did. I feel like not knowing what I was walking into really made it even better.
How can we be 20 books into the Harper Security series? It feels like just yesterday I read the first one. With every book, Ms. Evans delivers a story filled with steam, fantastic banter, suspense, and a few twists and turns that will have you holding your breath. Vanished gives us Hart and Reagan's story, and I have to say it is entertaining and addictive. He's an ex-military guy and she's a real estate agent. Both have a past that seems to hold them back from relationships and love. An arrangement is made and the spice builds up until danger comes knocking on Regan's door. The chemistry that was between them was off the charts. You could feel the intensity building, but that would go against the rules. Hart was the one who never thought he would love but he fell first and hard, only to keep his feelings hidden. Reagan's internal struggle was real regarding wanting more but she knew she couldn't have Hart. When truths are shared and feelings are exposed, the love that they both deserve blooms and heals the hearts.
𝐕𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐝 is the 20th book in the Harper Security Ops series by A.K. Evans, featuring an entertaining and emotional romantic suspense story for Hart and Reagan! They both had valid reasons for wanting to keep things casual, but when Reagan vanished, reality set in really quick! For such a long series, this author manages to keep things fresh and exciting even within the same subgenre! Hart and Reagan had an amazing connection that transcended the darkness, and I loved Reagan’s strength in those most harrowing moments. I was hooked by their honest conversations, sweet moments, undeniable chemistry, and the twists and turns of the suspense plot. One of the best things about this series, though, is the camaraderie and found family vibe of the Steel Ridge and HSO community! It’s been such an impactful series, and I can’t wait to read the last book!
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶🌶
OMG 😱 The chemistry between them was so intense and intriguing it has no words to express the emotions that is going on between them in this moment. It was a steamy page turner and the suspense was so captivating. I was on the verge of my seat with my heart in my stomach of seeing how the physical tension was going on between them that had raised a sparks of the flames in their eyes and body. I couldn’t even put it down. They couldn’t fight off the temptation any longer as they gave into the desire of passion and determination of loving one another in this forbidden world of life and romance. Will he be able to protect her at this difficult time or was he tempted by her beauty and fallen in love with her right now. I definitely recommend this book and you won’t be disappointed. I received advance copy of this book via Bookfunnel and am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion. Trina Jones

Hart and Reagan don't want a serious relationship. Love hurts. Another powerful HSO book! Hart works for Harper Security Ops in the kidnapping division, but he never tells Reagan. Tuesday after 4 months passing each other at Grants Deli for lunch, she gives him her business card and tells him he can come to her house for "lunch" any day he wants no strings attached. This went on for a year, when lunch didn't work out, they'd do after work sometimes, not quite just sex. Until he goes to meet up with her after work one day and she's vanished. Her phone, car keys and journal were all there on the counter. He pulls up her front door camera on her phone and sees 2 large men breaking in and taking her out limp. The clock is ticking; can he find her before its too late? What are they doing with her? Thank you Andrea again for a suspenseful and steamy romance! I received this book as an ARC reviewer and voluntarily leave my honest opinion.
I can't believe we are on book 20 in this series! I have loved every book in this series, but Vanished is my favorite. It quickly became a favorite because I think this is the most intense book in the series. There are some hard scenes to read, especially after Reagan gets kidnapped, but as usual, AK Evans brings us back together with her storytelling. What started as a casual fling between Hart and Reagan slowly turned into something more. When Reagan vanishes, Hart has to come to terms with his feelings and figure out how to find her before it's too late- Both for Reagan and their relationship. This book does get a little dark so fair warning if you are looking for a light romantic read. This book hooks you right from the start in the prologue and you can't help but root for them to figure everything out because you can feel their connection. I read this book in a day because I couldn't put it down! Well done AK Evans!
I am blown away that we're on book 20 of Harper Security Ops, and they just keep getting better and better. Reagan and Hart broke my heart and then pieced it back together. They were both so broken, and had no idea when they started up their purely physical relationship that they were going to come to mean so much to one another, and ultimately heal with each other.
CJ Mission and Kitt Swan were outstanding as Hart & Reagan. Their storytelling will have you loving these characters from the very beginning. The raw emotion and hurt that they portrayed through their storytelling was so raw and honest you will feel it deeply. Outstanding duo to tell this couples story.
Vanished was not the slow burn I've come to love from A.K. Evans, and I loved that it was different. Reagan and Hart started off with a bang, hot and heavy, and swore no attachments or feelings would come from it. How they made it so long without more was surprising because it was obvious the connection they shared from the start. It took Reagan vanishing for Hart to realize just how much she meant to him, and what a wake up call it was.
You know the men of HSO will stop at nothing to protect their woman and Hart proved that to still be true. You can't possibly not fall in love with these men and how hard they love and protect.
It's always great catching up with the HSO family. I don't know what I'm going to do when the series is complete because it's impossible not to be attached to these couples and the family that the HSO team is.
Another incredible story and audiobook from A.K. Evans!
Vanished is book 20 of the Harper Security Ops by A.K. Evans.
No strings they say, purely physical, no emotions involved….they can do it, right? But after so long together, the purely physical doesn’t seem like enough anymore but what if more changes what they have now? Reagan wants more but is afraid that Hart doesn’t so she leaves things the way they are.
Tropes: • No strings attached • Small town • Forced proximity • Former Military
As women begin to disappear in Steel Ridge, Hart’s concern for Reagan’s safety increases and he is fighting to keep his feelings for her at bay, until she vanishes!
That doesn’t matter when Reagan vanishes!
Kit Swann and CJ Mission always do a great job on whatever book they are narrating but this one, phenomenal!!! I could feel every emotion that ran through the characters as they told the story. Narrators make the audio books a success or a failure and, in this case, Kit Swann and CJ Mission gave us a stellar performance!!!!!
Vanished is an extremely intense and emotional journey with some very triggering moments and plenty of darkness. Reagan is an emotional mess from the beginning, and her issues compound as she experiences terror after terror. The novel focuses more on her and her experiences than the love story between her and Hart, building the angst and fear incrementally higher with each turn of the page. Hart is a dynamic man with his own issues, and I would have liked to get to know him as deeply as we do Reagan. The narrators did a fantastic job performing their roles and those of the supporting characters. The emotions and tensions were running high throughout this book, and the delivery was on point.
First off, this book needs a trigger warning page because of some of the topics it hits and I had to double check if I had missed it.
I had a really hard time connecting with the characters this time. Maybe it was how long it took to understand why they were the way they are, or possibly because of how secretive and closed off Hart came across.
When I put the book down, I wasn’t looking forward to getting back into it because I really disliked their arrangement and how much they kept denying and lying to themselves about their feelings.
There is a ton of spice! I’d give it 3 🌶️
The story kept me interested enough to finish but in the future I honestly will probably skip this story and not buy it to add my collection.
This is the 20th book in this phenomenal series, and this is Reagan and Hart’s story. Reagan is a real estate agent, who is happy with being alone, while Hart is ex-military, and now working in the kidnapping and ransom division for Harper’s Security. These two are both broken souls, but when Reagan is kidnapped, Hart is determined to find her. This is a well written story which is action packed, with suspense, intrigue, camaraderie, humor, witty banter, twists and turns, undeniable chemistry, and love, which leads to an entertaining, and unpredictable, addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Vanished is the 20th book in the Harper Security Ops series by A.K. Evans.
One would think after 20 books in one series, the storyline would be repetitive. Not AK Evans. She just keeps rocking out these books, sucking in the reader time and time again. Unfortunately for me, I am not as good of a writer and fall short on the creative review.
I enjoy the relationship dynamic between Reagan and Hart. The way their friendship develops is sweet and a bit funny (add in a little gut twisting rightb in the middle), and it balances the twists and turns. Well written and an enjoyable read.
Vanished was an amazing read with the suspense a little more than usual from the author, yet when someone just disappears from their home for no reason, things will be intense. This is what happens to Reagan and Hart is devastated, realizing when he finds her, he won’t let her go. Yet life doesn’t always work out the way we plan it. This is the story of Hart and Reagan who throughout their lives want to find friendship and love, who might first lose the friendship yet find the love they have always wanted despite everything the world stacks against them.
This was my favourite A K Evans book. It was suspenseful, it had action, I felt the angst but it also took me on a journey. Hart and Reagan tried to keep the mystery alive by not saying much whilst getting to know each other without preconceptions. And when the time comes that Reagan really needs Hart he is there for her. It was gut wrenching but also incredibly soulful. Kit Swann gave her all as Reagan. You could feel Reagan’s pain in her voice. CJ Mission was swoon worthy as Hart, the protector.
Reagan and Hart are your regular friends with benefits. No relationship, no strings attached. It isn’t until Reagan vanishes without a trace that both of them realize what they both mean to each other. There’s so much suspense during Reagan’s disappearance. Then there’s the chemistry between Hart and Regan. Another great addition to the Harper Security Ops Series! I received an ARC of Vanished. I voluntarily read and reviewed it. All opinions are my own.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love all of A.K. Evans books, especially her Hearts and Horsepower series, but this book was so well written with a plot line that kept me on the edge of my seat it is rivaling the top spot from a series. The entire setting of where Reagan was kept was so well written, you could feel, see and hear the situation. Not to mention the hookup that quickly became more in the best ways. Awesome romance and suspense. the narrators did an amazing job also.
I chose this rating because this was a pretty good book. This was a book of protection, compassion, kindness, honesty, and happiness. I enjoyed Hart and Reagan story. This book touched the heart and the soul. I was happy that it turned out the way it did, with Reagan back where she should be. Reagan was as stubborn but she came around. Great read! I recommend this book to all romance and mystery readers.
4.5 Stars! Great Read! This book is in the Harper Security Series which I love all the previous books. This one is about Hart and Reagan. There are both wounded and have a physical relationship for a year and then one day She vanishes. Lots of suspense surrounding it with something going on, misunderstandings between them both and heart aches, it does have a HEA though but a great read.
Hart and Raegan! What can I say, its always hard when you enter a friends with benefits and develop feelings. Damn though their sex was off the charts. There's always a rescue mission but that's the whole point of the series lol. It brings to light that that is still going on in this world and how do we stop it. I'm so glad they finally got it and the life they both deserved!
I have loved this series from the very beginning and this book was no different. When Reagan is being held captive some of the scenes are hard, but the story was exciting and gut-wrenching and emotional. There were also light and funny parts, and it definitely kept me interested from start to finish.
