Christian Focus Publications sent me a copy of "Daily Readings - John Calvin" ed. Scott Manetsch in exchange for an honest review.
For a while now, Christian Focus has published year-long devotional collections of key Christian theologians. With the publication of this volume, John Calvin becomes the latest in their stunning lineup.
The book is nice and portable. It has a faux leather cover and a ribbon bookmark. This means that the book has a delightful presentation while also remaining very affordable.
The content is also wonderful. There's one page for every day of the year. Each day features a selection from Scripture followed by a selection of Calvin's work (usually his commentaries, but also his sermons and the Institutes), which is relevant to the selected passage. It is simple, brief, and edifying. As a bonus, Christian Focus included selections from Calvin's Genevan prayers at the front of the book. It's not all of his prayers, but it is the prayers intended for daily use.
All this is to say that I heartily recommend this book! I've enjoyed using it so far and I'll continue using it the rest of this year.
