No character development. Rarely do I want more scenery or character description but this was lacking. The plot line sounds interesting but there’s nothing in particular to draw you in and make you what to keep reading.

A Court of Thralls and Thorns is the first book in Didmon's new The Fourth Guild series. This enemies to lovers, fantasy romance features Ashlyn (Ashe) Rebec and Prince Zander Rayne.

Ashe is the chosen daughter of Cyran Rebec, the deadliest man in Warriath. He is the head of the Order of the Thorn, a group of thieves and assassins. Ashe grew up learning how to excel in those skills. One day, her father summons her to let her know that he has essentially sold her to King Rayne in exchange for 1000 gold coins. The kingdom has been at war with the Blood Fae and are in need of more recruits. Typically only nobles are permitted however a new commoner guild has been opened to those with special abilities. He also wants her to spy for him. While livid, she cannot refuse him and is forced to enlist.

Ashe believes she will be assigned to the Healers Guild given her healing abilities but she quickly learns that she is sent to join the Thrall Squad as a dragon rider. It is there she meets Zander, the King's fourth son. He is a rider and assumes the squad leader role for Thrall Squad. Ashe hates him on principal for everything he represents.

The Thrall Squad is put through many sequential challenges and Ashe is lucky to come out alive, much to the disappointment of the noble riders who don't believe commoners should be permitted to be riders. Over time Ashe comes to see her squad mates as her new found family and also realizes that Zander is not quite as bad as she thought.

There is a diverse cast of characters in this book, including Ashe's squad mates, the royal family, members of the order, and of course, dragons. I enjoyed seeing the cast's interactions with one another, and their growing relationships. While the Ashe/Zander relationship remains the key focus, I also loved how Didmon developed Ashe's other relationships including those with Siergen and Kaelith, the Sentinel.

I have been a fan of Didmon's work for some time. I have read several of her multi-book series. I always enjoy them, finding the storylines captivating and engaging. I will say that I struggled somewhat with this book and its similarity to another well known dragon rider series. As I was reading, I kept identifying similarities to that other series. It took me longer than I would have liked to be able to set aside that comparison practice and just enjoy the book for what it is. Rating the story on its own, I would give it 4.5 stars. It was very enjoyable and I truly love the cast of characters. As I know there are other installments planned, I hope that Didmon continues to differentiate her work allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in this fantasy realm.

I absolutely loved this, ancient magic, dragons, a deadly enemy, a girl with a mysterious past, assassins, intrigue, mystery and a forbidden love affair. All the ingredients in a tasy fantasy pie.

Ashlyn or Ashe Rebec is the 20 year old white haired adopted daughter of the deadly crime lord, the Order of The Thorn who are responsible for thieves, assassins and prostitutes, a cold and calculating man its soon clear Ashe was never more than a pawn or asset in his power games. When the King decides to invite commoners into the ranks for the first time to bolster numbers, Cyran sells Ashe to the Crown for 1000 pieces of gold.

Ashe presents herself to the palace and is sent to be a dragon rider, the 4th guild and placed in the Thrall unit with other commoners. She was expecting to be placed with the healers as she has healing magic, but much to the disgust of the nobility she is sent to join with other commoners to try and bond with a dragon.

During her bonding ceremony she is bonded with Kaelith, the Sentinel, an ancient, powerful, grumpy and decidedly very uncooperative dragon, who makes life as difficult as possible. During her training she forms a close bond with her other squad mates and she is also under the stern eye of Prince Zander, the 4th son of the King, a dragon rider in possession of powerful magic.

Ashe starts to show signs of a ancient, powerful magic, the power to summon and control storms, but due to her dragon's reluctance to anchor her her magic is wild and unpredictable. Under pressure from her father and the Order he represents to spy on the palace or do his bidding she is under constant threat of assassination, as well as the unwelcome interest the Blood Fae, her kingdom's enemy who see her as something more than just a rider.

There are secrets to be uncovered, treachery and a love she thought was dead, resurrected. As well as the feelings she and Zander must suppress. Can she protect her found family whilst uncovering the threats to her kingdom and finding out exactly who she is?

I loved this book, the characters were great, loved how supportive her fellow dragon riders were, the dragons were fantastic, Kaelith was grumpy and sarcastic, whilst Siergen was sassy and flirty. Zander was an excellent MMC, so caring and protective.

I really like Ashe, she was kick ass but vulnerable, a FMC lied to and manipulated all her life, she's had no choices in anything she does but was breaking away from her father and the Order and becoming powerful. I really look forward to reading the sequels. Thoroughly recommended.

This paranormal fantasy enemies-to-lovers romance is page-turning with exceptional magical world-building and characters. Their journey is enthralling with a court of thralls and thorns, throne of the blood fae, mature, explicit romance that is consumed by steamy, sizzling passion, lust, desire, and spice with all the feelings to leave readers breathless and begging for more, dragons/magic/fae/romantsy, fated mates, dragon riders, readers will find out what scorches the skies of Warriath, chaos/drama, suspense that will leave readers on the edge of their seats, heartfelt emotions/emotional depth, action, adventure, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with a court of thralls and thorns and an explicit paranormal fantasy enemies-to-lovers romance that is sure to transport readers into a magical world that is wildly dangerous, entertaining, and unforgettable.

This book starts off with a bang. With her adopted father, Cyran Rebec, being the deadliest man in Warriath, Ashlyn aka Ashe has grown up learning many things: from mending, to stealing, to killing. Cyran’s daughter, Solei, has also trained Ashe. Since the King has opened the guild to commoners for the first time, he sends Ashe there, since she has white hair and looks so fae halfling. Each family that has someone recruited gets a 1000 gold coins. Cyran is the leader of the Order of Thorn. The war with the Blood Fae is escalating so there is more need for recruits. There are warders, infantry, and dragon riders to name a few.

Solei walks Ashe to the magistrate to get tested. Ashe has some unique abilities that she tends to hide. Learning about her past is heartbreaking as is a few other things that happen to her. The poor thing is a danger magnet and she has a tendency to almost get killed daily. I felt so many emotions during this book, from laughing, to crying, to freaking out, sweating, needing the AC on, chewing on my nails, ranting, punching my pillows and so many more. The fight scenes are awesome and her new crew is awesome. I’m totally in love with all of them. The Princes are unique and very different from each other. Of the four, one is now dead. Riven, Jax, Ferrula, Naia, Cordell, Lauren & Eilvin are Ashe’s crew. Siregen is the smallest dragon and I’m so in love with him. He is sooo much fun, but when he needs to be he can be scary. Ashe’s main problem from another crew is Perin, I dislike him immensely and you’ll see why. Prince Zander ends up taking charge of the crew and Tae, who did something and since he is low on the nobility pole, is transferred in.

The trials they have to go through are deadly. If you fail, most likely you die. As the crew is known as the Thralls, they are possible dragon riders. There are so many things that happen in this book. It is epic and ends on a total cliffhanger. I don’t want to wait for the next book *sniffles*. lol. I think this could be my new fave series by this author and that is saying something!.

A Must read ❤️❤️❤️

The story centers on Ashe Rebec, a chosen daughter of a criminal syndicate, who finds her world turned upside down when her hidden fae magic is discovered.
The plot is fast-paced and immersive, immediately drawing you into a world of political intrigue, ancient magic, and dangerous secrets. Ashe is a wonderfully compelling protagonist—she's resourceful, resilient, and her journey from a pawn in a larger game to a force to be reckoned with is incredibly satisfying to witness.
One of the book's greatest strengths is its rich, imaginative world. Didmon has crafted a kingdom with its own unique history, power struggles, and magical hierarchies. The concept of residual fae magic and the various elemental powers provides a solid foundation for the plot, and the introduction of dragon magic adds an extra layer of intrigue. The world of Warriath feels fully realized, and you'll find yourself eager to uncover all of its mysteries.
The romance in "A Court of Thralls and Thorns" is a highlight, featuring a captivating enemies-to-lovers dynamic that is full of delicious tension.
The relationship between Ashe and the king's fourth son, Prince Zander, is a central pillar of the narrative. Their interactions are charged with both hostility and undeniable chemistry, making their evolving connection a truly engrossing experience. Didmon excels at building this relationship organically, letting the characters' shared struggles and growing understanding fuel their emotional bond.
In a genre filled with many options, "A Court of Thralls and Thorns" stands out for its strong heroine, compelling plot, and steamy, heartfelt romance. It's a perfect read for those who crave a story with a blend of action, magic, and passionate relationships. This is a series that promises to be a thrilling ride, and I for one, can't wait to see what comes next.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
From the very first page, A Court of Thralls and Thorns had me hooked like a dragon’s claw digging straight into my chest. Ashe’s story is brutal, raw, and powerful—sold out by the one person who should have protected her, thrust into the hands of a king who values her power more than her humanity, and forced to fight for a place in a world where everything is stacked against her.
What I loved most? Ashe isn’t some fragile heroine waiting for someone to save her. She’s fierce, stubborn, and refuses to let anyone—royalty, syndicate, or dragon—decide her fate. The trials were edge-of-your-seat intense, but it was the simmering tension with Prince Zander Rayne that had me clutching my Kindle like it was about to combust. The push and pull between them is the perfect storm of hatred, temptation, and inevitable attraction. Enemy-to-lovers at its finest!
And then there’s the dragon magic. Oh. My. Gods. Tia Didmon nailed it. The way Ashe struggles with her bond, her power, and her deadly adversary (aka her own dragon) adds this delicious layer of danger and depth to her character. It’s not just about surviving the king’s games or the fae war—it’s about mastering herself, her power, and her place in a kingdom that would rather see her dead.
The world-building is rich, the betrayals cut deep, and the romance burns slow but hot enough to leave scorch marks. This book gave me the same kind of excitement I get from my favorite epic fantasy romances with trials, secrets, dragons, and a heroine who refuses to bow, then this book belongs on your shelf.
By the end, I wasn’t just reading Ashe’s fight—I was living it. And now I desperately need book two, because Warriath’s skies are on fire, and I’m not ready to land yet.

Ten minutes in and I was completely enveloped into the story, the characters, and the plot set up.
The FMC is diverse, constantly fighting with broken strength. She should be broken from constantly being used and manipulated, and yet as she finds people that love her for her she ends up growing stronger. Her resilience builds, falters, and then builds again. You can’t help but root for her.
We have her group of friends that are loyal and likeable. Some we get to know more than others and it will be interesting to see if they stay as tight of a group moving forward.
We have our direct villains, and then we have multiple grey characters. Do we like them? Do we not? I love when this is incorporated into the story. It keeps us on our toes and makes it harder to peg the outcomes.
We have our dragons. Feisty and independent, who bring their own dynamic into the story and round out the already full plot lines.
Then of course we have our MMC. Our mysterious and broody prince who is constantly at war with others or himself or his duty. I love that his next move is unpredictable. That his core is yet to be full divulged. I’m looking forward to seeing his character development and how his choices and loyalties unfurl. Or is he the MMC after all? Gahhhhhhhh give me more!
This is giving straight up fourth wing vibes. The similarities, well, there are many. Almost too many? But regardless I’m all for it.

Strong Characters in a Familiar World

Tia Didmon’s A Court of Thralls and Thorns is an engaging listen, led by a compelling protagonist in Ashe. Her history as an assassin’s daughter and her survivalist grit provide a solid foundation for the performance. The highlights of the audio experience are the "found family" dynamics within the Thrall Squad and the slow-burn tension between Ashe and Prince Zander. The mystery surrounding Ashe’s parentage and the threat of the Blood Fae kept the plot moving with a welcome layer of intrigue.
Narrator Naomi Rose-Mock did a wonderful job bringing this world to life. Her distinct character voices were impressive; you never felt confused about which character was talking, which made the squad interactions much more enjoyable.
However, despite the strong narration and character work, I struggled to fully connect with this story. The plot and world-building felt significantly derivative of other popular dragon-rider series, which made it difficult to stay fully immersed in the narrative. While it is a well-produced fantasy romance, the heavy reliance on familiar tropes prevented it from feeling truly unique. It is a capable start to the series, but it ultimately didn’t resonate with me as much as I had hoped.

This is the first of six books and yes there is a cliffhanger. I really loved reading about Ashe and her struggles. And there are many. To describe her as being determined would put it mildly. She has had to survive all her life.
I loved how the Thrall squad, the commoners , pulled together. Becoming a real family for Ashe. And how even Kaelith starts to warm up to her.
Zander is going to be an interesting person to watch. I think he knows more than what he is telling. Remy is going to also be one to watch.
I loved her squad. They each have their own gifts and ways of expressing themselves.
I loved the mystery and edge of your seat action. There is tragedy, and in a sense betrayal. There is even a little humor that will put a smile on your face.
I'm counting the days to see what happens next to out mystery girl. Will she find out who her true parents are? What she is and why the Blood Fae want her so badly. Who is this master that thinks she is on the wrong side of the upcoming war ? Can't want to find out more.

I was expecting a stronger romantic pull earlier in the story. The writing itself is polished, and the author’s voice is confident, with detailed world-building and a well-developed fantasy setting.

However, the romance takes a long time to truly develop. This is a very slow burn, and readers who prefer early chemistry, tension, or emotional connection between the leads may find it difficult to stay invested at first. The story places a heavier emphasis on world-building before the romantic arc really comes into focus.

I also found the plot somewhat hard to follow in places, as a lot of information and fantasy elements are introduced early on, which made it harder to fully grasp the stakes right away. While I appreciate the ambition and craftsmanship behind the story, it took longer than expected for it to fully pull me in.

This book is likely a better fit for readers who enjoy dense fantasy worlds, political intrigue, and an ultra slow-burn romance rather than those looking for a romance-forward romantasy experience.

Ashe had been raised to be a thief and trained to be an assassin by her 'father' Cyran, leader of the Order of Thorns. When he sells her to the King as a recruit in the King's Army because she has Fae blood and because he plans to use her as a spy. But he doesn't expect her to be accepted as a dragon rider, or for her to be tied to one of the most powerful dragons in the realm. He definitely doesn't expect her to transfer her allegiance to her squad of thralls and refuse to give him any information about any of them, including their voluntary leader - Prince Zander Rayne fourth son of the King.

Not going to ruin the story for you. It is only the first book and, predictably, ends on a cliffhanger. It reminds me of Rebecca Yarros Fourth Wing series, so if you, like me, are waiting for the next book in that series, this one will help tide you over!

“A Court of Thralls and Thorns” is the first book in a new series, The Fourth Guild, by Tia Didmon. This is a wonderful Dragon Rider series every bit as good as Anne McCaffery and Ava Richardson. Ashe Rebec is a heroine in the truest sense of the word. She may not always be best or even win but she never gives up. She is smart, stubborn and determined to be her own person. If the series continues as it has started it may just turn out to be my favorite of all times.
Tia Didmon never let you down, and this is Tia at her very best, with twists that surprise and characters you cannot help but care about. I can not wait for the next book!.

A Court of Thralls and Thorns is a great introduction to a new fantasy series The Forth Guild. I really like Tia's writing style, the settings and world building are well executed. The pacing of the story was wonderful, the characters are absolutely breathtakingly fascinating. The storyline is filled with magic, drama, betrayal, danger, dragons and everything a reader could love. I recommend this to fantasy readers!.

Fourth Guild

Dragon rider fantasy. Ashe is a young woman of fae and human descent. She was "adopted" as a child into a guild of thieves and criminals. The light fae no longer seem to exist after a war with the blood fae, who are now at war with humans. Some descendants have magic and can bond with dragons. So, when the king offers money to commoners her faux father sells her to the crown. She joins a soon to be close knit group of dragon riders and the story unfolds. Mild romance provides lots of drama.

Chaotic Potential

There is potential in this story. Great descriptions, well-formed battle-tactics, and strong build-up. However, some things felt either rushed or not necessary to mention immediately (this is a six book series, and some things mentioned could have been spread out throughout them). Some descriptors were repetitive (i.e. the scent of the MMC), the battles with the enemies were too fast-paced, and the lead up to the only spicy scene felt rushed and amusing.
Aside from these mentionings, the story could be enjoyable.

She's spent her life as a no one, not really wanted by anyone.
Growing up in the criminal world, she's sold as an asset
But she's so much more and her bloodline is older than anyone knows.
She attracts the sentinel and her life will never be the same.
But she's not going to sit back and let others tell her what to do anymore.
Even if she's not sure who she is, she knows her future is her own.

This is the first book in the Forth Guild series and what a way to start the series. I love that the book reads like a mystery. Ashe sold into servitude to the king in his army. Each chapter reveals a little of Ashe's history at a time. Many want her dead including her own dragon. It does end in a cliffhanger that leaves me waiting for the next in the series.

Ashe & Zander
Ashe is a young woman sold in to her new life, she was hoping for one thing and ended up, not where she expected and hoped to be. She is not fond of Zander in the beginning, but she adapts. I truly enjoyed this first in series even with minor similarities, to others. I actually think that it has it's own unique cast and story, and I Loved It!!! No Spoilers!! I Recommend!.

A great start to what I feel will be an amazing series. Was a bit concerned when I read the title as I was expecting something that was a carbon copy of other books in the genre. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is not, there is a strong original story which is hard to find in such a popular genre now. I look forward to book 2.

Surviving the Guild

The intensity of this story can't be described. Ashlyn is sold to the king as a thrall for war. While trying to survive her new guild under the leadership of the king's son Zander something changes inside her. This story was exciting and suspenseful as the series is just beginning to ramp up. Fast paced action with lots of dragons with personality, found family, a naive nadir female thief/trained assassin/dragon rider, an ex-boyfriend we hate and a dark an mysterious prince. Lots of things going on in this plot and I feel like I have no idea where all these loose strings end! I have no clue what is actually going on just that she and her dragon are coveted/marked for death by each side! Ugh, that cliffhanger ending was brutal!

This is good about good vs evil, romance, spice, action, adventure, life vs death and survival. This is the first book in the series, and it sets the scene, adds the playmakers, the mysteries and the risk.
I can see this being the start of an epic adventure and I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in the series.

Ashe was part of the Thrall and Thorns with Jax, Eilvin, Riven Naia, Tae and Cordelle with Zander the prince taking part of our group. Little by little the group is growing and being a dragon rider. But in the mist there's a lone rider trying to take Ashe out of the equation, Zander being part Ashe with training and hunting.
